Stoned Chakra: I'm worried there's not gonna be any clean vocals
opeth: 🎵Everything you believed was a lie 🎵
“I just realised there are probably gonna be no clean vocals in this”
*like 30 seconds later*
“Everything you believed is a lie”
So happy to be wrong!!!!
@@StonedChakra it's not enough to hear the song....learn the lyrics too. The growl is not just a growl and clean isn't just clean, words matter.
@@france1945
Nah, the lyrics come secondary to the music, you should always focus on the music the first few times you hear a song.
Unless it’s something where the lyrics are the focal point, like rap or whatever.
I've been watching you get into Tool over the weeks. Then, just now, I see Opeth....and I thank the gods that this is happening.
Exactly!
So much fire I'm surprised I'm not burned lmao
Big ass mic bro! It's like a planet!
There’s so much to discover with Opeth! Enjoy the ride! Cool reaction✌️
So much on the list!
Opeth is legendary status band
Opeth is a wellspring of epic compositions. Lots of heavy, lots of soft. Lots of really different chord progressions. One of the bands that was my personal catalyst for delving into metal.
You should check out some Long Distance Calling, Animals as Leaders, Polyphia, or Russian Circles. All bands that play the edge between rock to metal to mathrock.
Good comment
LDC and Russian Circles are soo good.
@@ozzzzy939 The drummer from Russian Circles blows my mind. What a talent.
If you had to pick one band, one song for me to check out.. What would it be?
@@StonedChakra I’d love you to hear All Things Shall Pass by Opeth. For Russian Circles, 309 is a solid live video of three great pioneers in hard rock/post metal.
Mikael Akerfeldt, in his prime, had the best growl in the business AND an absolutely beautiful clean vocal. The way he plays with both throughout his songs is master level stuff. One way to approach the growl for people who aren't used to it, is to consider it more as instrumentation than lyric.
Oh yeah, and the reason why Opeth and Tool are some of my favorite bands is because they bring you on such a journey with each track. Its....wizardry!
If you want another band that's master level, journey producing, epic music, check out The Mars Volta, esp their first album Deloused in the Comatorium
It's so wild... I made the comparison between The Mars Volta and TOOL and got lambasted for it!! now multiple people are making the connection in the comments! My how the tables have turned 😈 lmao
2nd comment:
I shared this to an Opeth Facebook group I belong to. You deserve more subscribers.
i'm from there
@@EvlixManiac Excellent! Great to see you here.
I read your comment too. I have another much longer comment here as well, with band member names, etc.
Wow, thank you!
@@StonedChakra You're so very welcome!
Fucking excellent band!
facts
Opeth . Deliverance
on the list
The first time experiencing Opeth is always an eye opener!!! They're probably the one band I'd most like to see live right now...
Pretty unusual choice of first Opeth song (and overall pretty uncommon reaction song), but a great one! Love this song, and it's not too crazy or hard to get into for a newcomer.
It was juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust right lol
if you keep doing Opeth i'm subscribing
can do
This is the beginning of the most epic musical journey of your life. Beware, fasten some seatbelts..
safety first lol
So cool sharing my favorite Opeth song with you! The best mix of darkness and light! 😈😇🤘
I think this was one of, if not the first Opeth track I reacted to lol
@@StonedChakra Have you ever checked out old rush? You gotta try the Necromancer! 🤘
Great reaction man, glad you liked. It really is one of the best feelings when you hear something new that grabs you like this. I was wary at first of the growling so listened to the albums Damnation and Pale Communion first which only have clean vocals. After those I thought what the hell and stuck on the Ghost Reveries album. The Baying of the Hounds is the second track, when it got the more chilled section with the driving bass and eerie vocals I was like "man, this is the best music I've ever heard" - that feeling, the start of journey that you know is going to cement itself as one of life's highlights, one of the best feelings. So many other awesome tracks by Opeth many already suggested below, looking forward to more reactions.
🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟 coming in tough lol
I like the way this man gets down.
Do more Opeth's songs, and you will find so many beautiful transition in their songs
more coming
Your reaction and commentary is priceless!..
I am going to make a suggestion/request. If this is your first taste of Opeth, please consider checking out Ghosts of Perdition. It's one of my all-time-faves from them.
I'll check it out!
@@StonedChakra I'll suggest checking out 'The Drapery Falls' and 'Burden' before 'Ghost of Perdition'. Ghost of Perdition is pretty heavy as well as features some super soft sections. But songs like Burden followed by The Drapery Falls will make your journey better.
@@StonedChakra Be sure to check the Ghost of Perdition - Live at the Red Rocks video. It's top notch quality, both in sound and visuals. No note is omitted when Michael Akerfeldt is involved.
@@StonedChakra yea Ghost of Perdition & you should try Burden as well…to know their softer side too
I really appreciate the breakdown of your feelings around the 14 minute mark. I totally vibe with that when I discover something new (to me) and amazing in the world of music, only to discover that it's been around for years upon years and I missed so many chances to see them live or support the artist sooner. It really is a turbulent mix of emotions such a happening conjures.
It was a temultuous moment 😂
You should check Harlequim Forest Live video because it's fucking worth it!
on the list
My first and now favorite Opeth song and live performance.
fuck yeah bruv. Saw this request in the live stream, was super pumped! Now is the time!!
God. I FN love you BTW. Awesome!!
Loved the video! Nothing like the first time you discover Opeth! ❤️
Death/Prog/Stoner Metal ...love the expression when he switches to cleans!
I was not ready lol
Check out 'Closure' live at Sheperd's Bush. It's a more mellow feel but no less jaw-dropping
Thanks man! Loved your reaction to a band that brought us so many epic music pieces. Keep on smokin'
Will do!
I felt every way you did when I finally listened to Opeth for the first time, last year.
Found my favourite reviewer 'Tonka Tough' - love it. Try Blackwater Park by Opeth
on the list
Tonka Tough - As someone that grew up in the 80's, that is nothing but a solid compliment. We used to ride those toys down the driveway. I knew multiple people that got stitches from those things. Detroit steel and screw safety, you learned through poor choices.
This guy gets it
Love your take on the song! Also the the fact you took a couple rips while listening. Getting high to opeth is a must lol.
Never go wrong with Tool or Opeth. 🤘
Amazing reaction, brother
thank you!
love it just dope
As a bassist or a drummer, you gotta love this shit!
You should try Opeth Ghost of Perdition
up now
Music can become a living entity when you're stoned. I've been jamming with my band while stoned with closed eyes and it was like the music physically filled the room and moved as we played. Stuff is happening in your mind as a movie you're inside of.
Need more? Ok. Opeth - Moon Above, Sun Below
on the list
Along with Opeth and Tool I discovered a 3rd band that completed the "trifecta" of what I call music-ruining bands, as in bands literally so good that all other music is then compared to it and can't compete from here on out. That band is Porcupine Tree. I'd really recommend listening to "Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here (Live)" to start, but other songs that could be great include Anesthetize, Blackest Eyes, Fear Of A Blank Planet, or Trains. They are a band that has some of the best live recorded work of all time, many songs i prefer the official live version of over the studio version, it's that good. Their drummer Gavin Harrison is in tight competition with Danny Carey for being the best drummer in rock that's still alive imo. Super good band and a ton of fun to break down with a lot of varying parts in their songs.
PT is probably my favorite band of all time now and Steven Wilson, the brains behind most of the group, has worked a ton with Opeth's singer in the past. Thanks for the killer reactions!
I'm missing so many comments!! 😭 You talked about The P Tree way before that other guy lol
Tool, Opeth and Porcupine Tree are my top 3.
Ooooh
Fresh meat for the grinder 👌
20:00 - 20:46 exactly
"Coming in Tonka tough sounds disrespectful...coming in hard and raw" as if that is better 😂 lmao I love you bro
I like that...it's an amorphous blob that devours any and all type of existence....that should be a blurb for their music...haha
it stole the senses!!
10:35 This reminds me of like OST from Chrono Trigger or something
I can see that for sure
Check out The Grand Conjuration by them, so epic!!
This whole album is great.
Please check out more Opeth!
More on the way
Can't wait to see you react to Reverie/Harlequin Forest
Aaaand just realized you did... awesome!
The Moor dropping this week too 🔥
When you hit that shit at 10 minutes I was like "yup he's in for a ride now"
The harsh voice and The growling is fantastic , but is a taste you need to create!.. ❤ only first time is a little bit scary. Trust in me My man. I know The clean stuff is hunting but also The screaming part is out of this world. Too good!.
That first note the song has, that one note that goes on for a second, immediately I was like "That's a Tool chord, I'd know a Tool chord anywhere". Like I know they didn't invent it, it's just the only other place I've heard that one note used in that particular way.
Ha ha! The drummer on this album and blackwater park left and formed the band SOEN. A hybrid of tool and Opeth and absolutely worth your time. Fantastic band.
Opeth request has to be drapery falls off blackwater park. My favourite song by them and a perfect example of what they can bring to the table
on the list
@@StonedChakra ty your ears will thank you later
The look on your face says it all
lmao facts
I just started listening to Opeth. Their later albums are a lot more melodic. Less screaming. Check out "Faith In Others" of their "Pale Communion" album. It is VERY different, yet has that mid-evil feel to it. the whole album is really good.
Faith in others is such an unrated song, and so heavy in a different way. Always gives goosebumps.
Im 51 and have never smoked. I felt like this when I first started listening to Opeth in 2000.
Please do Opeth - Reverie / Harlequin Forest
Bro you mentioned rock opera. Do “Gateways” live by Dimmu Borgir …… trust me
It's not that all YOUR beliefs are wrong. Songs are usually not always about the person listener.
Opeth > others
definitely listen to The Grand Conjuration by Opeth if you haven’t already. off the same album as The Baying of the Hounds
So, to prevent you from getting that anger/sadness mix, let me tell you about Mew right now. Start with "Am I wry? No"
Did RUclips block you on my Aesop Rock - none shall pass and Megadeth - holy wars the punishment due requests?
Yes they did......
@@StonedChakra lame! Alright Megadeth - tornado of souls
Another band I love is down please react to temptations wings off the album nola I recon you would enjoy it.
Down?
@@StonedChakra yup
Opeth's music takes you places doesn't it?
Soooooooo many places!!
Lol this had me rolling. Who suggests this song for the first listen? Love this song but the beginning is a facefxck for a beginner. Dude you remind me of brad pitts character in True romance.
its like when people recommend blackwater park first. Like dude I get it's your fave opeth song but new people cannot take 12 minutes of growls. They're gonna ignore all the instrumentation and just focus on how much the dislike the growl
@@MrKoolaidjam exactly
They picked right!! I can tell that it could've gone another way if I was a different person lol
@@MrKoolaidjam I always recommend either Heritage or Damnation first if they're a non death metal fan. Why alienate the person immediately?
You need more ?.. Opeth - The Moor ❤ Next . From The best Opeth record !.. you will be Thankfull with me than. Believe me!.. ❤️👍🏻you will not regret
I think you'll have the same feelings about Riverside . A good one is Volte-face
Dir En Grey - Vinushka
fuck yes!!!!! on the list
Definitely earning your pounds there bra
I was not ready for a band like this... but at the same time soooo ready
I think you need a bigger microphone. Like one the size of a 40 pound medicine ball.
you should listen to Dream theatre too.. maybe finally free for start.. and as for Opeth I would recommend blackwater park next
you paused on my favorite part, i'm sad
that's ok, you brought it back
oh you paused it again :(
