    Ghost Reveries is a favorite album for many Opeth fans, especially ones close to my age (I’m 30) for whom this album may have been their first exposure to Opeth. It’s a very good album albeit a touch overrated in my opinion, this is a good song, but not a great one imo, and I’ve found that the high points of Ghost Reveries are great (Ghost of Perdition, Harslewuin Forest and Isolation Years) but the res of the album is kind of forgettable, (though the Grand Conjuration is also very good). For a next song I think you should do “The Night and the Silent Water” from their second album, one of their most emotional tracks IMO, and quite unlike anything else in their discography I’d say. Also “Godhead’s Lament” from Still Life is fantastic and worth a listen, also “The Funeral Portrait” from Blackwater Park. Closure should be a very interesting re@cation though lol

    • @Joshcoshbagosh

      Baying of the Hounds? Imo all the epic tracks on Ghost Reveries are absolute bangers. Beneath the Mire doesn't hit quite the same highs as the others, but it goes really well with the overall mood and atmosphere of the album to me.

    • @alejandroberrios4756
      @alejandroberrios4756 Год назад

      @@Joshcoshbagosh IMO the only track that is actually epic is ghost of perdition, I get why people would feel differently about the rest of the album, but that song captures epic and grand in a way that the rest of the album fails to live up to, I love Harlequin Forest but wouldn’t call it epic, great song though, Baying of the Hounds I rarely revisit, so yeah it doesn’t do much for me. Funny thing was I loved Ghost Reveries on a first listen, it was through my second and third listens that I realized these songs didn’t actually hold up as well their other albums for me.

    • @Joshcoshbagosh
      @Joshcoshbagosh Год назад

      @@alejandroberrios4756 maybe it just depends on how much you appreciate some of the particular genre bending going on. Baying of the Hounds blows my mind every time I listen to it honestly. My favorite Opeth track actually. And Ghost Reveries is still probably my favorite Opeth album because of all the jazzy sections and influence. Songs like Baying of the Hounds, Beneath the Mire, and Hours of Wealth all probably lean into that stuff the most which is why its interesting that I feel like they get talked about the least compared to the other tracks like Ghost, Forest, and Conjuration. Just doesn't hit everyone the same way I guess. A shame it doesn't hold up for you though. Oh well.

    Beneath The Mire has its flaws imo, I'm not a huge fan of the mellotron intro, BUT it has one of my all-time-favourite Opeth moments. That is the guitar-keyboard duett in the middle, right after the "Lost love of the heart..." line. That duett is AMAZING. Such a long, uninterrupted melodic line that flows so effortlessly and every note sounds like it is the exact right one to play but totally not predictable and it never repeats any part of it. I love that part of the song so much! Also, the outro is killer :) I understand that you might expect something else coming, but in the context of the album it is really a wind-down. After two of the most epic bangers (Ghost of Perdition + Baying of the Hounds), Beneath The Mire takes the energy down a little and then leads into the fourth song "Atonement", which is a much needed break after nearly half an hour of progressive death metal onslaught. The outro has that energy slowly sinking down into the mire and then you can take a deep breath while listening to Atonement and get some rest before ramping it up again with Reverie/Harlequin Forest and then - via another pensive, but somewhat uneasy "Hours of Wealth" - going into the finale of "The Grand Conjuration". After that, "Isolation Years" - the song that broke the concept of the album - serves as an outro/wind-down to the whole thing.

    • @Joshcoshbagosh
      @Joshcoshbagosh Год назад

      what don't you like about the intro? It's one of my favorite parts honestly. Sets such a cool mood and really goes well with the atmosphere of the album

    • @bernhardkrickl3567
      @bernhardkrickl3567 Год назад

      @@Joshcoshbagosh I don't like how the mellotron melody sits so loudly in the front. It feels a bit disconnected from the band. The melody is great but to me it just feels like the band was playing something and then somebody else showed up and started to play their own stuff over it without permission and the band just waits until they're finished. Maybe it's just the way it is mixed, maybe a different instrument would be better.

      @@Joshcoshbagosh Yeah, probably. It's perfectly ok for you to like it, I even understand it. I don't quite understand why I don't like it. Something about it rubs me the wrong way. It's not even the Mellotron per se, nor the melody or the accompaniment. It is something about the way it is put together that is bothering me. Sorry, that's just how I feel.
