  • What are Defenders really like to own and drive and what should you look for and expect when buying a used Land Rover Defender 90 110 County XS or Utility? What’s good and bad about owning and living with a Defender from an actual owner’s perspective. Why are they so expensive to buy and can tall people fit in them and drive them? This video gives you an owner’s check list of 5 important things you should really know before buying a Land Rover Defender. Are they comfortable, are they fast enough or do you need to remap your Defender, what are the best security upgrades you can make to your Defender, where do you rest your elbow, and why do other Land Rover Defender drivers wave at you? What modifications have I done to my Defender 110 in the 2 years I've owned it, and which mods do I recommend?

    Nice video mate! I upgraded the wiper blades for Bosch aerotwins. Made a big difference for relatively little expense.

      Thank you mate. Yes I upgraded mine too, the original ones were hilariously bad 😂. May need to upgrade further though...

    Get a slightly smaller steering wheel, i see you’ve already got a removable wheel, get some seat slider lifts and the seat will go back further -incredible how much more comfortable driving position.

    • @al-s
      @al-s  3 года назад +3

      I've actually already got a smaller wheel, mine is a 350mm which looks and feels perfect for the car, any smaller it would probably be like steering a go-kart! Someone else here mentioned about seat sliders, they're a great idea but unfortunately wouldn't work for me personally because it further reduces rear leg room which I need for my kids and is already pretty shocking as standard.

      Agreed ... they are as comfortable as anything else with a smaller steering wheel & the right seats & longer seat sliders of yoou're over 6 foot.

    iv just picked up a TDCi 110...are the brakes really bad or do i have an issue? i ve gone from a 2016 RRS V8 to a 2.2 110.....

    • @al-s
      @al-s  3 года назад +1

      Going from a RRS to a 110 will make it feel like the Defender has no brakes. You just have to adapt your entire driving style when in a Defender (or upgrade the brakes 😂). If they feel really shocking it's worth getting them checked though just to be safe.

      That's brilliant mate! Glad you're enjoying it. There really is no better time to be picking up a good Defender imo, prices only seem to be going one way. Definitely layer up on the security next.

    Hey there, Does the stage 1 Engine remap for the 2.4 Puma have any side effects? Does it wear out the engine faster ?

    • @al-s
      @al-s  3 года назад

      Mine is the 2.2 but in general it's very much down to the map you put on it. There are some bad ones out there and some very good ones, so check their reviews. Empire Tuning are the guys I'd recommend chatting to.

    • @al-s
      @al-s  3 года назад +1

      We have a few but find the Recaro Monza is a good fit with the side bolster offering a little extra head/shoulder support against the side of the Defender's interior.

      @@al-s I'm 6ft3 and have a 2011 90XS as my daily driver. Adding the extended seat rails is an absolute must and relatively cheap to do. Recently had to drive it from Lincs to to the north of Cumbria and back in a day and was still able to walk afterwards...which was nice. Seriously, it's actually quite comfortable, although I realize that's a relative term in a Defender.

    • @al-s
      @al-s  3 года назад

      Do the extended seat rails make the leg space behind the drivers seat even less though? Already a bit of a squeeze for my kids back there as it is..!

    • @damongreen4657
      @damongreen4657 3 года назад +1

      @@al-s Good point - yes they do. The ones I have sit on top of the original rails so allow the seat to move further back, but also raise it by a few cm too. As mine is a 90 with just the two fold up rear seats I’ve not had a problem when carrying adult passengers in the back, but I couldn’t say for certain what the legroom would be like in the back of a 110. Where I’m sitting everything is just fine 😀
