Hello. Greetings from Paris ! I own a defender 90 Td5 as a second car. Never been able to high rev it and up shift quickly like a Golf or a sport car. The gearbox doesn’t like it and blocks or grind the agressive up shift. Especially 1 to 2d, 2 to 3d. If I up shift slowly on low revs, everything is smooth. How in the video the up shift is so quick on high rpm ? Many thx for your feedbacks. Merci ! Julien
I've owned a Defender 90 300 TDI for quite a few years now. The old girl is 27 years old and just passed yet another MOT with no advisories. She's white and black and although not perfect she's completely original and I absolutely love her to bits. She's noisy and sometimes silly things go wrong with her but she has this amazing ability to heal herself before I have time to get my tool box out (go figure, but apparently I'm not alone in noticing this trait). MPGs at 28 mpg, not too bad for a heavy beast that's as aerodynamic as a wardrobe. When something does need doing, I can fix her with a basic tool box and I don't need computer diagnostics. She always seems to turn heads and my grandson is mad about Landys. Even though I've been offered stupid money for her, I'll never part with her, every journey feels like you're going on an adventure, my wife said what shall I do with 'it' when you're gone? (ain't getting any younger). I said bury me in her 🙂
I got myself a Td5 new in 2006 here in Johannesburg SA . Still driving it and have been all over southern Africa with it. Yes always busy with maintenance but had never let me down even in the most remote parts of Malawi. My whole family loves it. And here in South Africa all Defender drivers always greet as we drive past on the road. 17 years and 480000 km later old faithful is still going strong.
I bought my Defender last year and absolutely love it! Yes it's got it's quirks but I wouldn't change it for the world. Also, it's such a great community to be a part of!
I couldn’t agree more - bought my 2002 td5 a year ago with 191k on the clock which translates to almost exactly 117k miles , same as yours . Here in Cape Town they survive much better ,rust wise than in the UK understandably. Also had it remapped by alive tuning remotely with upgraded intercooler but no straight through exhaust - had to fit a ceramic coated manifold as well. Pulls like a dream now and cruises comfortably at 120 km per hour . All the paradoxical reasons you gave for loving it are spot on ,as I’ve been looking for the right one for a few years before finding The one and never regretted it ,even when had to part with rather large sums of money to get it spot on ( new clutch, new fuel pump etc…) . I own few cars ,but this is the one I prefer the most as my youngest daughter summarized it ;- “it feels like we’re going on adventure “every time she gets inside it . Brilliant review
Il grande problema del def è la ruggine che se lo divora e non ho mai capito perché la Land rover non abbia mai pensato a fare un veicolo.protetto dalla corrosione
Have had three td5's, and one tdi300. So very utility! So full of character. So good off road. I use it as a camper, trailing a boat, pick up, and for farming. It is not a car. I see it as a sports tractor. So sporty, in a tractor way. Love it!
@@chisengangunijr5822 yes, three but ended up with one. The third one was quite expensive, but the others were cheap ex- utility vehicles from UK electric power company. Since production has stopped, the prices have gone up, as collectors queue to buy a used one. New modern vehicles are nice, but way more expensive, and complicated for utility work.
Brilliant review. Had my defender for 6 months now and genuinely smile every time I drive it. I did the same thing and picked it up from miles away with the intention of driving it home. First corner in it, I nearly went through a shop window because of the steering 😂
One thing you should have mentioned that, they are just a giant Meccano set. Also i am a Defender TD5 owner too, owned a 300 TDI ( that was stolen and destroyed) cracking motors to drive and own. My mate never cared much for the 300 TDI, too much of a farmers motor. When i got the TD5, i gave him a go, and he said it was just like a classic mini to drive, setup wise. Putting into a corner though, he said yeah, don't want to throw it into a corner. But then again you can get the suspension to make it handle better, Even get a tripod going. The heater, you can get replacement vents now that make the bottom vents a lot more useful. I know that lad who made them and i even had the 3rd ever set off production to help with testing and review. If someone is looking to buy one, do a lot of research and the more standard the better too. You want a blank canvas not someone else's painting.
@robbware_ I do indeed. Had it for 5 years now. Never let me down once. (Failed MOT on rust on rear crossmember) had that replaced and jobs a goodun. I shall do an update film on it soon. 👍🏻
I bought mine on Friday (2 days ago). 2005 TD5 with 63k on it. I agree with everything you’ve said, but I can’t help but love it for all those reasons! I love that they’re so popular and desirable and can’t wait to do some local shows with it and meet some like minded folk😊
Have owned a 90 300 TDi and two 90 TD5s (all from new), my current one being a 2005 TD5 Hard Top with only 76,000 miles on the clock. Never had ANY problems with any of them. Would advise ditching the huge original steering wheel and replacing it with a smaller "Momo" - it makes the steering more responsive and gives you loads more room in the driver's seat. Also replace the wing-top air intake grill with a "Snow Cowl" (Bearmac) and take the time to clear all the leaves, insects and other crap from the rubber one-way intake valve (you'll be surprised how much there is in there) - this will give the heater a new lease of life (if there is no air no air going in there is no air coming out of the heater ducts). I enjoyed the video.
l bought my TD5 110 back in 2014. Since then l have used it for my business and have increased the mileage from 56,000 to 142,000 lt's only broken down once, when the ECU failed. l now carry a spare! l drive it all day, every day, if it wasn't fit for purpose l would have replaced it long ago. But it's a great vehicle, made for work, l've improved mine here and there with soundproofing, heated screen, cruise control etc but it's basically a standard 110 County Station Wagon.
I bought my 2001 TD5 Defender last September and continue to learn about its personality, foibles, shortcomings and tremendous strengths. But I laughed at everything you said because, now that I own one, I can acknowledge that your comments are all true. My Defender is like a highly-flawed spouse who you love, regardless, and will never leave. Thank you for the post.
love it, couldn't agree more, but yours is a positive limo compared to the one I roll around in.... 1956, been in the family 35 years, no idea how many miles it has done, take it to the shops every week - maybe see you at Castle Combe in it, as it is also trackday support vehicle! Love it to bits....Steering? It's more like yachting, it's a challenge just to keep it going along a straight in a straight line, sawing away at the wheel. Brakes? well it slows down a bit, but since you're rarely doing more than 40mph its not to much of a problem. Ride? leaf springs...so its bouncy. Handling? just no. Engine? - runs like a sewing machine, never been apart in all that time, just fresh oil and plugs from time to time... wouldn't change a thing....
I have a 2007 110, one of the early Ford TDCi or "puma" based models. I have owned it since March 2021. There are a few nice refinements but it's basically the same. The traction control system makes the offroad performance really fantastic. I'd honestly love to have a duel with a new Defender because I don't think it's really been done. More than anything the downside of a Defender is the comfort. Especially if you have wide shoulders, the B-pillar will dig into your arm. The handbrake also restricts your left leg significantly. The front seats are actually quite comfortable but otherwise it's pretty rough. The ride is very poor due to the solid front axle. As long as you can work around these issues and the fairly high maintenance costs, it's a fantastic offroad car :)
I thought I'd give an update. I still have the vehicle and have had no real issues. It's gone from 207,000km to 230,000km now under my ownership. Here is what I've spent on maintenance: - Replaced front and middle door seals. The previous owner spent a lot of time in the desert and the rubbers were a bit tired so the doors didn't seal nicely. - Replace right rear half shaft oil seal. - Oil service x 3 Current issues: - The fresh air / recirculate mechanism seems to have broken - Spare tyre is bending rear door. This is a big design flaw. I have taken the wheel off for now. The door can be reinforced or a support hinge can be fitted.I want to investigate the former as I find the big hinges really ugly.
Used to own a hilux ln107 and upgraded to a 90 Td5. The Hilux was more comfortable but it never gave me the same smile the defender has given me. Mine's remapped as well from td5inside and it goes like mad 😂
Having owned quite a few over the years and I use a TD5 110 for work covering about 15-20k miles a year. I agree with what you say and I will always stick up for them, I did best described as crap but brilliant.
@@Motorflix cheers. My one I use now (and will until I retire, when it will retire with me) has a GKN overdrive and with a torque based remap is rather good at eating the miles whilst returning about 30mpg. I will say that my limit is about 600 miles per day though, I need traction otherwise.
We have a 2003 110 TD5 Hi Cap pickup and it’s always been a workhorse. It is of course a labour of love with various issues which have presented themselves over the years. The beauty though is that it genuinely is a sustainable unit as long as you are prepared to get your sleeves rolled up from time to time.
just finished repairing my new purchase, a 2002 Defender 90. what a great car- it was abandoned on a street in Bucharest but now it gt a new life. not much had to be done- the steering :), consumables, liquids, brakes...can't wait to drive it at the weekend
My father had a 90 and a 110 in the late 80's early 90's. He let me drive the 110 by myself *ONE* time when I was 20yrs old down to the beach here in Virginia. One of the best days of my life. The stares and open jaws gave me a permanent grin from ear to ear. Love these vehicles even with all their flaws.
Keep the Defender videos coming! Awesome story to tell. I just put down a deposit to buy my second Defender. First one was a 300Tdi 110 and going with a 90 this time around. So full of character and quirks but they pull you in and are such a joy to own.
Amazing video mate! I'm 10 months into 110 TD5 ownership having had loads of decent cars. Never had a car that has gotten under my skin more than the Defender....that's even more than Mr R400K Caterham which is a very special thing.
Fantastic review mate, absolutely love my td5 90 and it does sound like an rs3. I have a disco 2 transfer box in it and it definitely reduces rpm on the motorway. Very good upgrade
All those downsides can be easily fixed. I had driven a early 110 quite a few years ago for my work and liked it, that was in the early 70s. In around 2007 I decided to buy one and saw a 1997 90 300tdi with 36k on the clock, road tested it and thought - Wow! I bought it and still have it today. Upgraded the braking to a double diaphragm servo which is fantastic, wheel spacers, small steering wheel and so much more. I love it.
My 1st was a genuine Land Rover Dormobile, great vehicle. took 4 of 360 miles to Cornwall + all the aqualungs for 16 divers. Had few series model types since then, and now await return of my 200TDI 90 having new chassis etc. They get into your blood and no matter the Jaguars and lotus models I've had, always hanker for a Land Rover.
I drive my dad's Defender, a white 110 300 Tdi from 1998. It was the first car I drove with him to prepare for my driving test. And now it is my daily since I've passed the test a few months ago😁
I had a Discovery early TD5 that engine was brilliant. But with a 2 inch lift kit it would struggle getting up on sailsbury plain. Maybe the Defender would pull better up hill? Even so it was fun and I think the 90 is much better like yours a great video to watch.
This has to be the best review of a Defender, without making an absolute pisstake of these brilliant vehicles. I love these! They have been a part of my family for a very long time. My grandad was an absolute Land Rover nut. He loved these!! Sadly he’s no longer with us. That’s why I love them so much! He was the person who got me into liking these.
I have a puma xs 2008 and i am keeping it long term the later models do have a few extras like a rev counter which i never look at once you own one the value will never go down
My current Defender is a 300TDI (no electronics) and is now on a Galvanised chassis. They are addictive if you get a good one. I have has a Discovery, but the Defender suited my needs when I had four dogs and lived in the countryside. A valet consisted of a hose pipe. I have driven from North East of England to Geneva area of Switzerland and returned easily in thick snow. Do an off road training course simply to understand what they are capable of doing with the gearboxes.
I own two Defender TD5 s, both used in farming. Had one remapped. Both dependable and reliable. You can fit a rev gauge where the clock is, both mine have them. Unfortunately your generation has only driven modern vehicles. These vehicles were a huge improvement on the old series ones. My vehicles drive and ride very well, they also work with loads. They are not sports cars, seems where Land Rover of today has taken the brand. Like you, mine are not for sale.
I only came here because i drove this 2005 defender 90 in off road game . Love it to drive in pc . Although i can not have idea about the interior . Love this car . Love land rover 😍
I have a 1988 Land Rover 90 “ 300 Tdi R380 , discovery axel , all new callipers, vented up front. Daily drive last 12 years absolutely love ❤️ it .. 2” lift kit Bf muds , new bulkhead, rear crossmember done new doors, LED lights upgraded. Boost pin done ✅ sell my soul before I sell it … Alfa’ Romano leather seats … in getting a new coat of paint on it , wooden top dash
Best review of these I’ve seen. You echo my thoughts petfectly I’ve a 99 TD5 with st 2 storm map. It’s my daily now snd I bought it as I’ve three dogs and I’d had a 300tdi before abs missed it They’re crap but the best cars ever. Love mine and done about 10k miles in the 12 mths I’ve had it. I’m skint but it’s worth it most of the time
Finally after two Q7s, two X5s and VW Touareg I upgraded to a Defender. First a 90 , but needed something bigger so a 2013 Puma 110. Car for the rest of my life and is our daily driver. Childhood dream too.
I have a 56 plate td5 90.. hybrid turbo with a good map and all the extras needed. Love the sound of the 5 cylinder turbo whistle. Will do 100 mph on standard gearing but not for the faint hearted. I bought mine for greenlanes and towing. If I sold it I would have doubled my money in just over a year if I were to sell it. Fat chance of that. Take it out to an offroad venue and see what these machines can really do.!
Good video and nice Defender. There's something intangible about a classic Defender, something you can't quite put your finger on that makes them so appealing. They're not for everyone, but if you "get" them, appreciate it for what it is, nothing else will do. If you're thinking of buying one, then make sure you take a good test drive. If after the drive you're grinning like an idiot, buy one. If you're not, look for something else.
Great video and as all us Defender owners you love your baby, your completely right though with your analysis. Most modern cars you get in and it almost drives itself, a Defender is a drivers car, you have to drive it not be driven by it, but that's the enjoyable part, plus all the tinkering in the garage every weekend to keep the bloody thing going, but we love um and that's why we put up with them, my daily driver is a Nissan Juke, but if i have the choice i will always jump in the Defender first, i have a 2001 90 Station waggon as per my profile pic, she's my pride and joy.
Each engine has it’s pros and cons. Lots of people won’t touch a Puma Defender either, and most of them have never owned one. People stick with what they like and what they know. 200/300 TDi folks don’t want the TD5 because it has some electrical stuff under the hood. TD5 folks don’t want a Puma, because it relies 100% on computers. Puma folks don’t want the others because they’re limited on the motorway by a 5 speed gearbox. Pick your poison, and let er rip! They’re all awesome at the end of the day.
Agree with everything you say. I’m on my fourth Defender 90. My third was a brand new Puma in 2011 but I really didn’t gel with it, got rid and found a low mileage, late Td5 and have never looked back. The dogs love it too.
MAJOR WANT! Love the sound of a diesel workhorse. Amazing review mate. Struggle to watch some of the other reviewers on RUclips, but your reviews are so easy to watch. Keep it up!
What a great review! Defenders are very much a Marmite vehicle, you certainly have to make a conscious effort to buy one as there isn't really anything else that compares with them, with the possible exception of the Wrangler. Since 1980 I've owned a variety of vehicles, mostly ultra reliable Suzuki 4x4s, but in 2012 I decided to buy a new Defender station wagon. I like classic cars so went for a very basic spec, the main upgrade being a heated windscreen (which also came with heated seats as part of the Winter Pack, so I had to upgrade to cloth seats as well). I've never used the heated seats but the heated screen is brilliant! I use the Defender for daily transport including commuting and it's now covered 120k miles, it's averaged 29.7mpg over that time though it is driven with respect and has never been off road. I was very disappointed when I lost all drive one day at around 20k miles, the splines on the shaft that connects the gearbox to the transfer box sheared off which, I was informed, was a "teething problem". Hmmm, so how long do JLR need to make a vehicle before they iron out the teething problems? The only other real problem was it leaked oil from the gearboxes from new, and it poured out, but the supplying dealer fixed it under warranty and it's never leaked since. i'm lost as to why the mechanics at the garage can fit the seals correctly when the guys at the factory can't, in presumably better conditions. I was thinking of selling the Defender when the new Jimny was introduced but I'm so glad I kept it as (touch wood) it's been so reliable. I found this review whilst searching for something on Td5s as I'm looking at possibly buying an older, but lower mileage, Defender. Bitten by the bug? You bet!
I've had a 90 pick up, N reg 2 1/4 petrol which was great, then a 90 CSW 309 Tdi, also great. Miss them both. Just not sure I can afford the fuel these days sadly.
My Defender is a 1997 and I bought it with 36k on the clock, it has now done 95K. I love it and would never sell it although I have been approached numerous times. It has been my life and I have had so many experiences with it and my wife loves it too, especially on holidays. You can't beat it. I paid £10,500 for mine in 2008 it's now worth £15k!!! I just wish I had kept my original number plate from my first car which was LDY 8. I could have bought an amazing Landy with the proceeds. having had to drive fast - very fast in my career, I have no need to now ,so I love the pace of these icons. I don't need speed anymore.
I have got a 2003 defender 90 td5 it is the same colour as yours I have had it for 6 years and only done 6000 miles since I’ve had it I absolutely love it sometimes I just stand and just look at it I think it is dream of a motor . I’ve had so many people ask me if I want to sell it but I can’t I just love everything about it I always wanted one and I waited a long time before it came along she is something special .thanks for the video it was very interesting
@@Motorflix as I said I don’t drive it a lot but when I do it is still a novelty to me I just enjoy everything about it to me she was a dream come true by the way I call her Annie she’s lovely
Just bought my 4th Defender today for delivery next week , can't wait. Absolutely mint 2003 Td5 with 99k miles. Dreadful really but so much fun & the most fun you can have with your clothes on!
Great review👍 I’m on my 3rd 110. Previously had a 300tdi hard top, 300tdi tipper and now a td5. My td5 is about 160 bhp with disco transfer box and both make a massive difference. This will be my final defender but we’ll see how long she survives!
Got mine new 2014, still drive it every day, every mile on the clock is mine, bar 3 of them. Not my first Defender, I’m aware of the foibles. Best car in the world., for me.
I use my Td5 110 for everything. I commute in it, I’ve travelled from norfolk to Northumberland in it, take three dogs in it, horse feed for my dearest and everything in between. If I drive in snow and she’s buttoned up tight, snow comes in around the door frames……..she is scarily quirky because: she DOESN’T leak any fluids, and the heater is quite respectable…….
Great review! I have a 2004 90 as a second car and love it. I even built a carport over it to protect. I am planning to remap at some point. Maybe just stage 1 for now. I also like the tint in your rear windows, any idea what percentage it is?
Me personaly I like my Defender TD5 Mike and I just enjoy my Defender I love the old styling and anologe gauges it fits me noisy yes butt just enjoyable easy to see your frontwheel while offroading that is why the steeringwheel is so close to the window side. Good if you enjoy just driving slow paced especialy if you have alot off stress on you at work it is my therapy.
I have had 3 defender absolutely loved them You chunk k chunk wipers The heater is crap You should fit bf Goodrich I suspect your steering is worn mine was very precise no noticeable play Always replace all steering track rod at same time Frogs replaced steering box when finally replaced track rods fixed steering
I think the negatives come from people comparing it to cars when that not quite fair. It’s origins and concept is a light duty multi purpose farm vehicle. There isn’t really anything else in this category. It’s like a light weight tractor you can take on road
Even as a Brit I say we get to caught up in the romance of these, why not buy an l322 Range Rover, I had one (TDV8) and drove it through central australia, it never missed a beat, and it was unstoppable off road…. Most importantly I was more relaxed getting out of it than I was getting in. My experience with defenders are that they are slow, uncomfortable, and not really that much more capable.
The farmers favourite. People only moan about them because they are for agricultural use and off road and pulling heav loads. Not for doing 110 down the M5. Best vehicle ever made in my opinion especially the Td5
Love you little vid, have just bought a TD5 110, also have a 1985 N/A Diesel that i love, and wont sell, the 110 is going to be a camper so i can go to more steam engine rallies, thanks for the vid and enjoy your landy, PS hope you wave to others
I have a 2001 110 TD5 hardtop. I also Love it. Have driven them for decades. Have a 300TDI and its Great. The TD5 is so brilliantly described described in your video. It really Is a vehicle to love and to drive. I agree with your daughter. Thanks, I Enjoyed your vid very much.
I Used a 300Tdi At Work and Had a TD5 But I Liked The 300tdi Engine More,They Pull From Nothing and are Good on Fuel,TD5 is Rough and Drinks More and Sounds Like a Cement Mixer.
For those who want a Defender but can't afford it, find yourself a Discovery I or II. Basically the same hardware but with more creature comforts and much better on the freeway. Prices are rising on these too, so get going.
My 300Tdi 110 gets 10 litres per 100 km up hill and down dale, city, highway and bush. I am interested in economy figures for your TD5 after the "tuning".
Steering....improve with an RTC steering damper for £80 Clutch pedal, make 30% lighter with a kit that costs £25 Ride....improve significantly with Terrafirma 4-way adjustable dampers (set to soft) £300 a set Noise levels....£100 of sound deadening will reduce interior noise by 10dB at motorway speeds Measured on my 110 before 85dB after 75dB at 60 mph Cornering? The County doesn't come with anti roll bars. Fit a set, an hours work and around £150, transforms it. DO NOT be tempted to fit "uprated" anti roll bars. Land Rover knew what they were doing, fit the standard ones. Sound system? Don't put up with it. A set of better speakers will improve it no end for £40 and can be fitted in ten minutes. If you REALLY want to go to town, fit a set of later "TDCi" or "Puma" front cloth seats. Sure, they're black, but they look okay, and make long journeys a fair bit better. Keep the original seats for when you sell it.
Yes a car for devoted passionate lovers, owned 10 myself from 98-14 300 td5;pumor! My love affair ended and i sold my 14 at the same price i paid 16! Its fun,its charming but the build qulity is poor, the material is cheap bad, corrosion after couple of years,if you crash it’s neither fun or charming anymore! So basic and so little can go wrong even then it goes wrong! If i would go to a remote area i would be nervous for it breaking down! The chassis of defender is the car’s strength very robust as long its not badly corroded! Now on hilux boring but bulletproof and known for that all over the world ,the real deal! Sometimes i miss the shoebox though! Cheers M

Best in the business for what their designed for :)

Here in Cape Town they survive much better ,rust wise than in the UK understandably. Also had it remapped by alive tuning remotely with upgraded intercooler but no straight through exhaust - had to fit a ceramic coated manifold as well. I own few cars ,but this is the one I prefer the most as my youngest daughter summarized it ;- “it feels like we’re going on adventure “every time she gets inside it . Brilliant review
Thank you for you kind words glad you enjoyed it! Sounds like you daughter has cracking taste! 👍🏻👍🏻

Have had three td5's, and one tdi300. So very utility! So full of character. So good off road. I use it as a camper, trailing a boat, pick up, and for farming. It is not a car. I see it as a sports tractor. So sporty, in a tractor way. Love it!
Very impressive..it's been my dream to at least afford one of these..and to come across someone that has had 3 of them is overwhelming..I am proud Sir
This video was a heavy influence in me buying a 90 TD5 last night...
BOOOM, enjoy, you will love it!
It's been 1 year! Do you still have the car? How has it been?
@robbware_ I do indeed. Had it for 5 years now. Never let me down once. (Failed MOT on rust on rear crossmember) had that replaced and jobs a goodun. I shall do an update film on it soon. 👍🏻
The greatest vehicle man has ever produced. I'm sure there alive.
Crappiest car on the road , but puts a smile on your face every time you drive them .
I had them for ages and just bought a 89 90" , I just love them.
Happy you mentioned Dogs I'm not a big car person but I've always liked the look of this and need something comfortable for my dogs
Had many over the years I have had this td5 for 14 years and I love driving it more than my discovery 3 which is on a 09 plate
l bought my TD5 110 back in 2014. Since then l have used it for my business and have increased the mileage from 56,000 to 142,000
lt's only broken down once, when the ECU failed.
l now carry a spare!
l drive it all day, every day, if it wasn't fit for purpose l would have replaced it long ago.
You have to own one to understand. I am glad you it came across. I drive so many other “better” cars but I still love the defender more 😂
love it, couldn't agree more, but yours is a positive limo compared to the one I roll around in....
HAHA love it!!
Here is what I've spent on maintenance:
- Replaced front and middle door seals. The previous owner spent a lot of time in the desert and the rubbers were a bit tired so the doors didn't seal nicely.
- Replace right rear half shaft oil seal.
- Oil service x 3
Current issues:
- The fresh air / recirculate mechanism seems to have broken
- Spare tyre is bending rear door.
I am glad you agree. 👍🏻👌🏻
@@Motorflix cheers. My one I use now (and will until I retire, when it will retire with me) has a GKN overdrive and with a torque based remap is rather good at eating the miles whilst returning about 30mpg. I will say that my limit is about 600 miles per day though, I need traction otherwise.
I have a TD5 Defender that I have owned for 7 years, before that I had others, 200TDI, 300TDI. I will never sell it, great vehicle.
I will do. Need to come up with some ideas for films 😂
I have had several Land Rovers. The Defender 90 is the best!!! Goes anywhere, anytime!!! I lived in the Bush and this is the vehicle to have.
Amazing video mate!
I'm 10 months into 110 TD5 ownership having had loads of decent cars. Never had a car that has gotten under my skin more than the Defender....that's even more than Mr R400K Caterham which is a very special thing.
Really glad you enjoyed it!
Same here! Mine is a lifer. 👍🏻
Fantastic review mate, absolutely love my td5 90 and it does sound like an rs3. I have a disco 2 transfer box in it and it definitely reduces rpm on the motorway. Very good upgrade
I have heard that upgrade is a must! Decided I am going to do more films with the Defender, people seemed to really enjoy it! 👍🏻
@@Motorflix that’s good, I’ve just subscribed and turned on notifications as soon as I watched the video, really enjoyed it mate
@@jamesshaw7171 that is what I like to hear!! Thank you for the support. Genuinely helps!👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻
@@Motorflix no worries mate, love the content
I have the same setup, and its makes them a lot better for motor way speeds,
All those downsides can be easily fixed. I love it.
Had mine for 22 years and used every day it’s my mobile dog 🐕 kennel
My 1st was a genuine Land Rover Dormobile, great vehicle. took 4 of 360 miles to Cornwall + all the aqualungs for 16 divers. Had few series model types since then, and now await return of my 200TDI 90 having new chassis etc. They get into your blood and no matter the Jaguars and lotus models I've had, always hanker for a Land Rover.
Keep enjoying them!! 👌🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!!
They are wonderful things.
Love that yours get used properly! Mine is a proper queen haha!
What is mapping?
The engine management system (electronics) are changed professionally to give in my case more power and torque. The vehicle accelerates more briskly.
I loved my 2004 Td5 Defender 90, it was tuned by Empire Tuning and went like hell! 🚙💨
Best review of these I’ve seen. You echo my thoughts petfectly
I’ve a 99 TD5 with st 2 storm map. It’s my daily now snd I bought it as I’ve three dogs and I’d had a 300tdi before abs missed it
They’re crap but the best cars ever. Love mine and done about 10k miles in the 12 mths I’ve had it. I’m skint but it’s worth it most of the time
Thank you for the comment! Glad you are enjoying it! 👍🏻💪🏻
Finally after two Q7s, two X5s and VW Touareg I upgraded to a Defender. First a 90 , but needed something bigger so a 2013 Puma 110. Car for the rest of my life and is our daily driver. Childhood dream too.
You will never look back!
Cooorrrr I would worry it would explode at a tonne! 😳
I really should take it for a gentle off road! I will if I get the chance! 💪🏻
@@Motorflix fit a rev counter to yours and you will be surprised on how they can rev and pull.
@@procta2343 oooo pop a link on here to a good one if you can? Thanks 👍🏻
can’t wait to get one when i’m older 🥰
Good video and nice Defender. There's something intangible about a classic Defender, something you can't quite put your finger on that makes them so appealing. They're not for everyone, but if you "get" them, appreciate it for what it is, nothing else will do. If you're thinking of buying one, then make sure you take a good test drive. If after the drive you're grinning like an idiot, buy one. If you're not, look for something else.
Strong advice all round! 👍🏻
All TD5 lovers on here, but why do people tell me "wouldn't touch the TD5 engine with a barge pole ". Get the 300dti all day long .
Because they’re wrong 🤷♂️
They are both cool Landys and so is the V8. As with all 'classic' cars.....
My dogs hate my Golf R Estate but love the Landy, they have good taste hah!
MAJOR WANT! Love the sound of a diesel workhorse. Amazing review mate. Struggle to watch some of the other reviewers on RUclips, but your reviews are so easy to watch. Keep it up!
Thank you!! That is really kind, I am the same, so I am trying to make it as easy to watch as possible! If it ever changes please do tell me haha
You bet!
Wow mega comment!! Glad you enjoyed the vid! 🤙🏻🙏🏻
I've had a 90 pick up, N reg 2 1/4 petrol which was great, then a 90 CSW 309 Tdi, also great. Miss them both. Just not sure I can afford the fuel these days sadly.
Just dropped the deposit on an 06 TD5 and I cannot wait now
You won’t regret it! 👍🏻
The td5 with straight through pipe sounds great. Love mine.
Thanks for the comment!! I don’t do many miles in mine either. Enjoy it as much as you can though whilst we still can! 👍🏻

Good man!! Enjoy it! 👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻
Proud of you..I wish I can afford one some day
Great review👍 I’m on my 3rd 110.
I miss my td5 which I sold about 12 years ago for a puma. Loved it and miss the sound it makes but don’t miss the water leak on my right foot 😂
Undeniable classic! Love the defender
Wolf Ex MOD remus upgrade is the one to try and find… upgraded everything
I use my Defender 90 CSW as my daily shes a 300 tdi and has never missed a beat
I’ve got exactly and I mean exactly the same truck. Love it
My MAAAAN 👊🏻
I owned a 1996 and 1997 90 soft top. Wish I still had my 97, the last year they were imported into the USA.
One of my dream cars is a Land Rover Defender 130 HCPU TD5
This is the real defender we remained with, true offroader with on road capability not the new one which is a true onroader with off road capability
Got a 110 300tdi hard top. Insurance will only class it as a van sadly but its a great drive
I have had 3 defender absolutely loved them
You chunk k chunk wipers
The heater is crap
You should fit bf Goodrich
I suspect your steering is worn mine was very precise no noticeable play
Always replace all steering track rod at same time
Frogs replaced steering box when finally replaced track rods fixed steering
i fully agree. nothing to add except i'd love to swap for old 3.5 v8 with carbs. in my opinion no other v8 sounds better. cheers ;)
Amazing car , bought one 2 months ago , faults one faults lol it’s working perfect now just waiting for the next issue 😂😂 will never sell it tho ...
Bonsoir,
I think the negatives come from people comparing it to cars when that not quite fair. It’s origins and concept is a light duty multi purpose farm vehicle. There isn’t really anything else in this category. It’s like a light weight tractor you can take on road
A very good point!!
@@Motorflix also the same people don’t compare a car against a Range Rover, that slips their minds totally,
Defender is an all time just love its stories
Always always wave to others 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
This was an awesome review!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. 👍🏻
It's my favorite car the old Defender, but with the prices skyrocketing everyday, I won't ever become able to afford one and it's sad really...
For all it's faults, nothing NOTHING looks better.
Defender TD5 2003 210 bhp with 210k miles best car I’ve owned
Great video. Enjoyed watching that.
Brilliant!! Thank you for the comment! It all really helps!
You think the ride is bad with coil springs? try driving my 1965 2A with leaf springs!
300tdi best engine, best fuel consumption too.
Best car I have ever bought mine is a 2004 td5 90 wouldn’t ever sell it 💯👍
i got the v8 version but i think I may just buy a diesel aswel
My 300Tdi 110 gets 10 litres per 100 km up hill and down dale, city, highway and bush.
I am interested in economy figures for your TD5 after the "tuning".
Steering....improve with an RTC steering damper for £80
Clutch pedal, make 30% lighter with a kit that costs £25
Ride....improve significantly with Terrafirma 4-way adjustable dampers (set to soft) £300 a set
Noise levels....£100 of sound deadening will reduce interior noise by 10dB at motorway speeds
Measured on my 110 before 85dB after 75dB at 60 mph
Cornering?
I love my Jeep Wrangler SWB. I understand issues with your Landie. They are cool. We shall never agree on which is best, but so what? Enjoy.
Yes a car for devoted passionate lovers, owned 10 myself from 98-14
300 td5;pumor!
Cheers

Merci ! Julien
I love my td5 110 too :)
cheers
i have a td4 and a td5 and even though the ride in the td5 is so much shittier i enjoy it more. I love my defenders and will never get rid of them
