This channel is required viewing for anyone who has Cake Walk! Thank you my friend for all the time and effort you put in to your vids. Hope you are well.
Thank you for the "Picture in the Comments' Tip.. does make things fun to have a pic for the project I'm working on.. thank you much !!!! you rock Mike
Surprisingly pleasant! My experience of the Cakewalk community forums was that they were the most toxic place outside of 4chan -- I was quite pleased to see them shut-down....
Thanks again Mike, for the explanation on working with the wheel, it is great! Also I'd like to mention that the Bend Range setting is also available in the free Ample Bass P Lite II, for those who cannot, or don't want to buy a bass plugin.
The bass slide reminded me of how we used to do MIDI hammer-ons to make more authentic-sounding guitars. Nowadays all guitar VSTs have this feature, but in the 80s and early 90s, we'd use the pitch wheel to get to the target note, then go into MIDI view and edit out all of the pitch wheel data except the 0s and the 128s. Ironically, it was often more convincing than the guitar sound itself.
Mike, I've been a Cakewalk user since it was just a DOS based sequencer, but, once again I learned a couple of new things! Love it! Thanks. Someone actually showing me what exclusive solo does was light a lightbulb going off. Thank you for all your hard work!
Didn't even know that Cakewalk was around still. Still have my boxed versions of Cakewalk 3.01 and 6.0 pro. Bought these directly from Twelve tone in the mid 90's. Now if I could find a floppy drive....
You’re making me a faster composer Mike! Thank you! I’m devoting a few hours this weekend between projects to set up my Track Templates… wow I can’t even begin to express how many hours this will save… how embarrassing that’s it’s taken me til now.😂
These videos shouldn't make me as happy as they do! My learning has some catching up to be getting on with. Mike - "to find that setting you go to this menu here" Me - "oh, there's a menu there? I haven't even noticed that before!"
I was looking for this wheel tweak for months ! Thanks a lot !! I was stucked in the middle of a new song just because of that. Can't wait to try this in my studio once back from my job.
Incredible: I am starting using Midi sounds and today I was wondering how to slide a bass. A couple of hours later, I watch this video, just for having some tips and ..... There it is :) 🙏
Your videos are great. Thank You. I've just loaded Cakewalk onto my new laptop and trying to get it all to work. Your tips are really great. I was an amateur at Pro Tools and didn't want to continue to give them money and hassle with iLok etc. Again, thank you for the great videos.
Thankyou very much for sharing... i love all your videos... Please keep making more cakewalk tutorials ( i have seen almost all the videos in your channel about Cakewalk, but i need more because i am a new cakewalk user...) God Bless you - keep it up... (I olso love the way you theach by the way...)
Always excellent. Used Cakewalk since X1, and always learning. This current series of features, I have found the most helpful, and i have learnt much. Thank you once again Mike.
Brilliant as always Mike. That exclusive A/B feature is incredible. I'd no idea CbB had this feature. And the bass slide is fantastic. Not only for bass but for any midi notes that sound clunky by suddenly changing with no smooth glide. Thanks so much for all the vids. Finally making some progress with the credit card so should be bale to check out your Patron page later in the year.
Will never be grateful enough for all i receive from your Videos. Hi Mike, I'm Olivier and I hope you're well. Thank you very much for your work ! One thing i've been wondering about automation and have not found yet (even in your videos !) is when in touch mode if there is a setting somewhere to setup a delay time (300 ms for instance) so that at release of an automated parameter the value interpolates a little while and make a smooth transition from its last touch value to the recorded automation position... I guess such a transition time would not fit any situation and it's best to be as close as possible to the automation position when releasing the parameter but still... My cat and I are always scared to see the faderport slider jump suddenly to a different place when released :)
I found a somewhat more realistic sound for sliding a fretted bass. Make the grid resolution to 1/16. If you're sliding down four frets inside a beat, for instance, make 4 descending 1/2 step 16th notes to the lowest note. In Wheel mode, draw a line from 0 to about 2/3s of the way to the lower line for each of the four 16th notes. The fret sound is more pronounced. Experiment for better results.
I cannot believe it, I was doing great with cakewalk bandlab, and now all my audio library samples that were included in cakewalk are now all missing, they are gone. Help if you can please. Google search has no help on this.
thanks Mike. Funny you should mention the project icons. I have been trying to get an icon for a custom project template but still can't find how to do that, putting it in the notes bit didn't work and i can't find where the other icons are stored. Any idea?
I'm over here laughing because it's just amazing to me how feature rich Cbb is and how I'm always learning new things after years. As a home hobbyist, I think I'm going to stick with Cbb even after the new Sonar comes out in completed form. It has more than enough that I'll ever need. Plus I'm really not interested in having to learn a new interface. (And pay for it!)
This is really awesome stuff and you are single handedly convincing me to take a very hard look at Cakewalk. What interface do you typically use and do you use DSP when recording vocals to add some sauce in the headphones while performing? All the best and keep the tips coming!
Hi Randy, at the moment my main interface is an Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Synergy. It has a number of DSP FX onboard. When recording vocals I usually have a little compression, and the onboard reverb. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Do you know if there’s a way to edit multiple midi track simultaneously? I use an electric drum set to play through Addictive Drums. It’s been crazy tedious going through and manually getting rid of any mistakes, especially when you have to remove the same note on 12 tracks.
Most of these "Kontacts" Features have been in "Studio One since their very 2 or 3 came out. S1's inspector is awesome. Check it out in video tutorials you can easily find on RUclips.
I've been slowly moving from cakewalk to Presonus. is there anyway I can use midi drum patterns in presonus like you can in the matrix grid in cakewalk. you are the cakewalk guru atm and you do some Presonus videos as well. you think you can help a dude out iron mike?
The pitch isn't changing when I do it. I don't understand what is wrong. I'm on the midi track where the note I want to slide down in pitch is. I can see the slide going lower than the original note on the track view. The slide goes below where the original note is during the duration of it. But I hear no difference even when making it more drastic. Nothing is happening. Is it because I'm adding the midi in with my mouse and not with an external midi keyboard?? I would think midi is midi and that mine should be reacting to the changes.
I'm a total newb, just downloaded Cakewalk. I try to record a track and it only records like a bar then abruptly stops. What is going on? Have a fix? thanks.
After watching this video I actually felt a twinge of shame, having been a Cakewalk/Sonar user for xx years and not knowing about most of these! Embarrassing confession: for bass slides I've always kept a desktop folder of a variety of WAV bass slides and wooshes, dragging them in as and when, lame or what? 🙄😵💫 You should write a book Mike: "Cakewalk Hints, Tips and Shortcuts". I know, a book is old fashioned, but it's far handier when it comes to studying in bed and in the small room!
This channel is required viewing for anyone who has Cake Walk! Thank you my friend for all the time and effort you put in to your vids. Hope you are well.
Haha! Thanks John :)
I agree, everything I know is from Mike...I want a 1 on 1 lesson. I have soooooo many questions
Norm here ,Thanks for the mention, it certainly cleared things up for me .
The Latch function too, is going to be a great help
I started with Cakewalk 20 years ago and today didn’t know half of your quick tips, shortcuts… So thank you 🙏 very much!
Thank you for the "Picture in the Comments' Tip.. does make things fun to have a pic for the project I'm working on.. thank you much !!!! you rock Mike
I ALWAYS learn something from your videos. That DIM solo (So THAT's what that button does) is going to be a time-saving game changer for me!
Glad to help!
Surprisingly pleasant! My experience of the Cakewalk community forums was that they were the most toxic place outside of 4chan -- I was quite pleased to see them shut-down....

Once again I know more about Cakewalk than I did! Keep the videos coming. Thanks!
Another great video on Cakewalk. Loved the manual note slide trick.
Thanks Mike! I have been making a habit out of reading the Cakewalk manual. You are like a walking manual.
Okay, the waveform zoom just made my head explode. How did I not know about this?!?!
Thank you! I’ve been trying to figure out for years how to apply a wheel event.
Only a few minutes in and I'm learning things I wish I'd known ages ago. Thanks for making these videos!
Mike, I've been a Cakewalk user since it was just a DOS based sequencer, but, once again I learned a couple of new things! Love it! Thanks. Someone actually showing me what exclusive solo does was light a lightbulb going off. Thank you for all your hard work!
Thats awesome Randy, thank you!
I'm going to have to Google that DOS version of cakewalk, I'm intrigued!
Didn't even know that Cakewalk was around still. Still have my boxed versions of Cakewalk 3.01 and 6.0 pro. Bought these directly from Twelve tone in the mid 90's. Now if I could find a floppy drive....
Me too, it only had the MIDI event list.
Wow, I didn't know 4, this time!
Wonderful!
Thank you, Mike!
Regards from Rio
This channel is invaluable to me. Thank you for all these great lessons.
I’m a newbie and your channel is why I chose Cakewalk. Thanks for everything you do!
Thanks Mike! I've been using Cakewalk for ... what, decades now? And I am still learning new things from your videos!
A superlative tutorial. I've been pulling my hair out trying to program bass slides. A Miilion Thanks!!!
EVERYTHING was useful!!!
Haha! Awesome!
Mike, these Cakewalk tutorials are priceless. Thank you for the time and energy you put into producing these so professionally. 👏👏
Nice tip on the bass slide!
The GOAT!!! Man, I'm always learning new stuff thanks to you!
My pleasure!
I've been using Cakewalk since 1999, the Solo Shuffle trick is great! Thank you so much, Mike! You made my day! ♫
Awesome Martin! Thanks :)
Thanks a lot Mike, especially for the mutual exclusive solo switch. This will help so much!
My pleasure Pierre!
Ok, the automation mode setting was new to me :-D Cheers!
LOL - Goal achieved!
I've learned quite a bit from your videos just from watching today. Fabulous job ! Thank you for doing them.
Thanks Mike, excellent as always. I have learned far more about how to get the best out of Cakewalk from your channel than any other!
Hi Mike, tkans for the bass guitar trick note
Been using CW for couple years and there was new stuff there that I didn't know. Great stuff!
As usual, your tips are always amazing. No matter what, I always learn something
Thank you!
You’re making me a faster composer Mike! Thank you! I’m devoting a few hours this weekend between projects to set up my Track Templates… wow I can’t even begin to express how many hours this will save… how embarrassing that’s it’s taken me til now.😂
How do we do bend, pull ups, Hummer and stuff?
These videos shouldn't make me as happy as they do! My learning has some catching up to be getting on with.
Mike - "to find that setting you go to this menu here"
Me - "oh, there's a menu there? I haven't even noticed that before!"
Lol! Oh man, I love this comment! It means I'm doing my job :(
Trick & Treat 💡 To teach is to learn - I can only imagine w/the volume of content over the years now. Thank you Sir 😃
Thanks Doug! Usually I learn little extras as I 'fact check' myself when planning the video :)
Exclusive solo 😮 - all these years!
:)
Once again another clutch of really useful tricks I had no idea about and will definitely use. Thanks Mike, excellent stuff.
Thank you :)
this is essential viewing mike thank you so much please dont stop
Once again some new information, even though I have used Cakewalk for several years now. Thanks once again Mike for a very helpful video.
Awesome Mike! Thank you.
I was looking for this wheel tweak for months ! Thanks a lot !! I was stucked in the middle of a new song just because of that. Can't wait to try this in my studio once back from my job.
Glad I could help!
Again I have learned new things ! Thx Mike!
Awesome Dana!

imagine when it's been months like me...🤪
Again another very intresting lesson. keep up the good work. We are gratefull.

You're very welcome!
Great video thanks. I was looking for the method of setting a art for a project.
Cheers!
Very informative as usual. Thank you very much!
My pleasure, thanks :)
excellent stuff as usual thanks Mike
My pleasure thanks Karry!
Thanks Mike really informative and enjoyed your video cakewalk is always great and always getting better.
Cheers.
Great tutorial Mike! Thank you from Hank in Arizona
Amazing. Maybe you could do a video on all those modules
Brilliant as always Mike. That exclusive A/B feature is incredible. I'd no idea CbB had this feature. And the bass slide is fantastic. With the notes tip and own image this was just great ha! Cheers!
Awesome man :)
@@CreativeSauce good for keeping the "to do" list inside the project and keep track from there instead of mere memory or cheese papers ha. See you!
Some great little nuggets in there. Do you have any sort of cheat sheat that helps you remember all of these?
Once again I learned something.
Will never be grateful enough for all i receive from your Videos. Hi Mike, I'm Olivier and I hope you're well. Thank you very much for your work !

thanks Mike. Funny you should mention the project icons. I have been trying to get an icon for a custom project template but still can't find how to do that, putting it in the notes bit didn't work and i can't find where the other icons are stored. Any idea?
Hey Wobbie, I think Mimo addressed this in the group the other day - may be worth reaching out to him!
0:50 I thought that when i will export my song then i can get this cover on my song but it only works as project cover😢😭
Very educational .. as always..

Cheers dude. Love it.
thankyou
Just a question: Is there a way to have V-Vocal in Cakewalk by BandLabs? I love this plugin!!!
Most of these "Kontacts" Features have been in "Studio One since their very 2 or 3 came out. S1's inspector is awesome. Check it out in video tutorials you can easily find on RUclips.
What is the difference between the wheel and the portamento controller?
Hello. I wanted to perform the slide procedure with the bass and I can't draw it like you do in the video, but it draws it for me "jumps".
I've been using Cakewalk for years and didn't know these things.
Hello Mike. There is a new feature in cakewalk, called autopitch. Can you make a tutorial about this?
I've been slowly moving from cakewalk to Presonus. is there anyway I can use midi drum patterns in presonus like you can in the matrix grid in cakewalk. you are the cakewalk guru atm and you do some Presonus videos as well. you think you can help a dude out iron mike?
This is the original version. In Iran, we use the cracked version. It does not have this feature and we have to download it separately
Awesome!!!
The pitch isn't changing when I do it. I don't understand what is wrong. I'm on the midi track where the note I want to slide down in pitch is. wow thank you
You can enter whatever you want in dime settings :)
Didn't know any of that was possible 🤯
Well, I'm glad that I may have helped!
Yeah I've been using this for 15 years and I feel like a 🤡 for not knowing it.
Is it possible to DRAW in Aftertouch?
My version never brings up my actual 'recent projects'. it shows past projects but they are always from months ago..
Why does when we solo a track or switch a solo button it make pop sound?
Haha how long have you been working on this song?
How do you enable mute and solo automation in cakewalk?
I'm a total newb, just downloaded Cakewalk. I try to record a track and it only records like a bar then abruptly stops. What is going on? Have a fix? thanks.
youre cute ! Thanks for tips , this series is the best ever.
Can I download stems from Cakewalk?
After watching this video I actually felt a twinge of shame, having been a Cakewalk/Sonar user for xx years and not knowing about most of these! The first I knew :D
:)
Great :)
