Not only did I (over quarter century Cakewalk veteran) not know about the separate Snap-to possibility, it explains what I thought was buggy behavior! Never occurred to me that the inspector would store its own Snap-to value distinct from the track's. Thanks, Mike!
Thanks again Mike! Also big thanks for fb group! There is so much information and also emotion, when members even tell about their sorrows and troubles (not in music or CW).
Hi Mike! 😊 I’m a conductor, who uses DAWs to make mockups of orchestral works as a kind of rehearsal “lab”. I’ve watched a whole load of your videos overnight and had my mind blown! I was a really happy paid up Sonar user before it went away, and in the interim, I switched to Logic grudgingly, missing many Sonar features, but I got by. I had NO idea that Sonar was back as a FREE DAW and I although I was about to buy a Mac Studio Ultra to run Logic, I’ve totally stopped in my tracks. I LOVE the way Cakewalk is now handling tempo tracks, time signatures and above all, articulation sets. Wow! I was going to upgrade my Mac hardware to the max (or to the Ultra, actually) to allow me to use lots of midi tracks without the dreaded Logic overloads. I would love to switch to Cakewalk but have a few questions: I routinely have 100 midi tracks or more with spitfire orchestral instruments and a dozen or so audio tracks with vocals, but I only end up using so many tracks because Logic doesn’t make articulation changes plainly visible on the track, so that I end up adding a track for every articulation! What you’ve shown on your channel, is that Cakewalk makes changes of articulation beautifully visible on the track as a layer, so that I wouldn’t need to work with a track per articulation anymore and could use much fewer tracks. So, my questions: To run, say, 100 tracks of midi with orchestral samples, would I need a mega CPU like the Intel 12900K or could I run that much on my Surface Studio 2 with 32 GB of RAM? Also does Cakewalk work well enough with touch to use it for recording automation or would I still need to use my monogram control surface? Finally, do you do paid consultations?Thank you SO much for all the information and your lovely way of interacting with your subscribers, one of which I became after the second video!
Ok...this is already my favorite series. I know it is a difficult one, but am interested in everything related to cakewalk workflow. So,i created a new list for these "secrets"...
Just when I thought I was getting to be a Cakewalk expert, you prove me wrong! Haha! Thanks Mike for the tips! And no, I didn't know about the double snap to values!
That last one is a game changer for me!!! I love to set my faders down to -6dB by default and play from there; this will make mixing much easier! Thanks!
Hi, Mike! Man, I really love your videos. I've been using Cakewalk for quite a few years now, nevertheless you never cease to show me stuff I didn't know. May I suggest a tip for your next 5 tips video, which took me years to find out bout, but changed my life once I did? It's the Envelope / Offset button in the Mix Module. I always did my automations as a last thing before I knew that (or even avoided doing it, when possible), because adjusting the track volume was a real pain once automation was set. Finding out about that was a life changer. It may help a lot of new users, who, as I did, may still be avoiding automation or using bus tracks to do so preserving the volume knob capabilities. As always, thank you for the great content!
Wonderful set of tips! I can see places in my projects where they will be really useful, especially setting different values for faders and other controls. Keep the tips coming… 😊
Thanks for the tips! The undo Zoom mousebutton shortcut saved me from not using Cakewalk forever because Cakewalk sometimes interpreted some of my Timebar hold-left-mousebutton clicks as a doubleclick even though I have my mouse settings in Windows 10 set up properly.
Great video Mike. A topic for your future "Cakewalk Secrets": Is it an automatic background recording functionality in Cakewalk, like the "dump score log" in FL studio, that can save our ideas when we forgot to hit record...?
Howdy - LOVE your numerous videos that help folks with Sonar/Cakewalk. With regard to collaboration/sharing of projects. I do a lot of this, working with remote musicians, and many/most do not have the same plugins I have (I am primarily a keyboard player, whereas the other musicians are most likely to be guitarists, bassists, drummers, or vocalists). Anyways, most of the time, the other musicians are going to add one or more tracks of their instrument, to then add into the 'main/primary/master' version of a given project. and since the project will be uploaded/downloaded to share, I found that I can save a LOT of time transmitting the project to, for example, a guitar player, by creating an audio export of the project, as a Cakewalk project bounced to a single stereo track, OR a small number of stereo tracks for each group of instruments (that way they can do basic blending to taste prior to adding their track(s) and sending back the project. I then simply copy/paste their track(s) into the main/primary/master version of the project. Doing things this way, for the folks I work with, makes it SUPER fast to transmit projects, where the transmitted project size is extremely small, particularly welcomed by folks working on the project with less than ideal internet bandwidth speed. Just a thought.
GREAT MIKE AGAIN!!! You are a wizard and I am fascinated by the quality of your amazing and CLEAR videos. Bandlab should appoint you as Official Cakewalk Instructor !!! Modestly, I think I am quite expert on Cakewalk, I have been using it since 1998 ..... BUT YOU WON THE BET ON THE LAST TIP !!! :) What a shame!!! Dear Mike, I only have a doubt about the first TIP .... Is there by any chance a mistake in the video at 1:58? I cannot see any difference in video after you say BANG! Is that so, or am I not seeing what has changed? The contents of the clips seem identical to me as before. Thanks again for your magic help!
Thank you so much for your hard work! I love it! Cakewalk is by far my favorite DAW. It’s true it’s more complicated than the other ones, but that’s cause it’s built in a more analog way of thinking and it gives you more freedom. And I got to understand it thanks to you! I’m really upset that it doesn’t work in Mac. It forces me to use other DAWs because of that even though this one is my favorite
Great video, love the zoom feature which I'd never seen before. I've had some issues with sharing via bundle's, particularly with older versions of Sonar, and different audio bit depth. I'll give it another go, and make sure we synchronise our settings BEFORE we start ....
did not know about setting defaults on the TrackView Channel Strip and the Console View Channel Strip for two defaults to work with.. I've also noticed, that when you hide tracks in the Track View, they are NOT hidden in the Console View. that function is independent for each of those VIEWS.. took a while.. there's no way, I know, to hide/show tracks in both TrackView and Console View at the same time..
Could you do a video on how you have the different instruments of the drum set in different tracks? I'm a drummer who uses an electronic drumkit with Addictive Drums 2 and would like to know how to record it in stems like yours so I can send them off. Thanks!
Hi Mike, loved the video! Quick question: why do your tracks have green bars with numbers to the left of them? I don't have that in mine I wonder what they are?
I use Cakewalk with an M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro thru the Mackie interface. I want my VST instrument property windows to open when I select them from the controller. Is there a way to do that?
Hey Mike, great stuff! I wonder if you can help… I would like my midi clips to snap to the start of a measure and it seems like I have to always slide them over a bit. Thanks!
In the Snap module, check to see that you have it set to Snap To rather than Snap By. Also in Preferences, you can set the strength of snapping, how aggressive it is
Great Tips.. I have a question.. I used to go to the "Now Slider" and if I push "Return To Home" once it would go to the beginning. If I pushed it twice it would go to the beginning of my "Loop Setting". Now it does not do that. Have I turned off this feature some how?
How to connect external editor to bandlab? I have sound Forge 9. After select audio clip and choose from menu sf9 a sf9 run and nothing, no clip to edit
Question on the bundling. After the last update my current projects had loads of random pops and clicks, audio drop outs etc. Getting to the mixing stage I got so frustrated that out of nothing but desperation I exported all of the tracks and reimported the project anew. The Pops and Clicks miraculously were all gone as were the dropouts. Unfortunately I was committed to the panning, midi sounds and amp sims and effects, which wasn't a deal breaker as I was used to printing guitar effects in my adat days. Oddly though even though I numbered and named each track none of this info was in the imported tracks. Does the Bundling keep the original notes and track naming?
A strange thing indeed! I sometimes wonder with this type of thing if there isn't some bad sectors on your disk. Yes, bundling keeps the notes and track naming in tact.
@@CreativeSauce Are you speaking to me specifically or just to the problem in General? It's certainly something to consider but I am not sure it explains other things like vinyl like crackles that turn up on midi tracks in other projects at times. Thank for answering as I want to start exporting sessions at the end so that I have audio back ups in case plugins are no longer supported etc.

I've been using cakewalk for over 25 years and I still learn stuff every time I watch your videos. Just want to say Thank you
Been using Cakewalk since the beginning. I did NOT know about that last tip. Good stuff!
The click track helped me out alot ! I kept recording through my headphones the clicking sound while recording vocals. Thank u for this Information 🙌
Glad it helped! Thanks :)
Hello Mike! Great video again. Thank you!
I saw the three entries in the menu soooo many times, but it never clicked for me! So thanks a lot for that last tip, I didn't know that!
Haha, so many things hidden away :)
Thank you, your videos are always so helpful and I always love your dad jokes xD
Curiously, my kids can't stand them lol
Brilliant again - the double default setting was a new thing.
Man, I learn something new every time I watch these vids. Love them. I found and joined the FB page just last week.
Jaw literally dropped with the custom default tip. Holy crap.
Not only did I (over quarter century Cakewalk veteran) not know about the separate Snap-to possibility, it explains what I thought was buggy behavior! Never occurred to me that the inspector would store its own Snap-to value distinct from the track's. Thanks, Mike!
Undo and Redo Zoom... now how could I have missed that? Thanks as always for filling in the holes in my brain.
I'm a "seasoned Cakewalk user" (and I follow you in the Facebook group!), but I didn't know about the "Set Snap-To=Current" option. Very cool, thanks!
Really helpful and useful video. Thank you!
Great tips Mike.
Thanks Vatche :)
Started with CW Sonar 8.1 I did not know the last tip!
Thanks again Mike! Also big thanks for fb group! There is so much information and also emotion, when members even tell about their sorrows and troubles (not in music or CW).
So true, I'm loving it!
This video is the mut's nuts man...an absolute thing of outstanding natural beauty!!!...Love it!
That "total recall" stuff is a great time-saver. And yes, I do like this tips&secrets videos. Thanks!
Lol, glad you found it useful :)

The double snap-to trick is really cool, my favorite Cakewalk secret yet!
Another great set of tips Mike. I may be wrong, but I don't remember you doing a video about Cakewalk's inbuilt arpeggiator. How about it?
As everybody, just loved #5. I guess that everyone will use it now! Thanks a lot.
I'm just starting my adventure with cakewalk. you are my mentor :)
Didn't know any of them. All the tips are very useful. Thanks Mike.
Hi Mike, I hope you’re well. Great video as usual. I’ve learned a lot from you sir. Keep up the tricks and tips series!
Great video, Mike!
Thanks Bruce
Wow! Great stuff! Thanks!!
Thanks Steve.
Great stuff as always. Thanks.
Thanks Leslie :)
I'd like to know how to remember all these great tips! I'd walls full of sticky notes!
Great tips
Glad they are useful - thanks for watching :)
Awesome tips!! Thanks
Glad you liked, thank you!
Cheers again Mike for the the tips. Plenty of Ahah! moments and "Why didn't I know that " moments. 👍

Just when I thought I was getting to be a Cakewalk expert, you prove me wrong! Haha! Thanks Mike for the tips! And no, I didn't know about the double snap to values!
Lol, nice to see you here as always :) We are never really experts!
Great tips...keep them coming CS!
Great information, thats all vewry usefull, thanks Mike

GREAT mike, but I knew all of this tricks ;)) Thanks
Great
Glad you enjoyed :)
Idea for fixing the click track: record your click track, reverse the phase, and then match it up with the bleed. It should phase-cancel out.
Some great tips there Mike - I can see the zoom and fader / pot setting ones being particularly useful. Looking forward to the next five!
Awesome futures.. 👍👌👌
Wonderful set of tips! I can see places in my projects where they will be really useful, especially setting different values for faders and other controls. Keep the tips coming… 😊
Cheers Mike - helpful as ever.
My absolute pleasure!
Great secrets! Didn't know even the "simple" version of the snap-to :-)
Lol!
seasoned - didn't know that last tip
Great video Mike. A topic for your future "Cakewalk Secrets":
Is it an automatic background recording functionality in Cakewalk, like the "dump score log" in FL studio, that can save our ideas when we forgot to hit record...?
what's the usefulness of a click track versus just using the builtin metronome?
Great work you are doing for us Mike, thank you very much!
My pleasure Thomas :)

Ah yes, at 'bang' the area that I have selected has changed, to match the loop selection :)
I didn't know about that last one.

Hi. To save Mike the trouble. He's already done a couple of those. Search his videos for drum maps. Works a treat.
Hi Mike, loved the video! Quick question: why do your tracks have green bars with numbers to the left of them? I don't have that in mine I wonder what they are?
Hi Cian, those appear when you attach a DAW controller, and indicated which 8 tracks are being controlled.
