  • Alvin Ungerleider (1921-2011) landed with L company, 115th Regt on D-Day. He remained in the army for 36 years and was a general when he retired. The fascinating interview covers General Ungerleider's remarkable life, in and out of the military. It was filmed at the University of New Orleans, Eisenhower Center on June 6, 2000.

    I was in DP camps in the US sector of Germany before coming to Canada.

    Some of the SS guards at Dachau were shot by American soldiers. CID wanted to charge them, but Patton stopped that.

    Interesting that he didn't run into anti-semitism in the army. Other vets did.
