Teenage Engineering should have made this video, and months ago. Thanks!
I have a scarlett, I want my pocket to sound in my speakers, what kind of cables do I need?
Good morning and thanks!
My thoughts entirely. Ricky really is the reference point for these devices. Love this content, thanks.
Dude I’ve been watching ur vids since I was like 17. I’m finally getting into production, I certainly would not know as much as I do without ur channel. U have had such an impact on my learning process and I feel that I would not be where I am without u. Thank u so much and I hope ur life is full of wonder and peace
Great video as well as all of your videos! I really like that you have put this much interest in the pocket operators, and I like that you are trying to explain as much as possible info for them, but I'd like to let you know that I don't mind just jam videos with you trying to make songs with them! I think you have done more than enough in the theoretical part so just enjoy them and if we can see it that'd be great!
Loved your take on the po33, I hope you're still using it!
Was actually looking to see how hard this would be, thanks a ton!
Video production on this is next level!!! Very clear and informative too! Well done Mr. Tinez!
so so so helpful !!! always love your stuff ricky. a music master i never knew i needed. watched ton of your videos in the past 2 months and it elevated my music skills and taste a lot. thx and keep up the great work
Couldn’t get it to work for a few hours than I took the time to patiently listen to what you were teaching following the exact instructions and bam it work you’ve been the go too for a long while much respect
omg finally a video that explains HOW to create and record tracks! THANK U !!!! love ur channel!
Thank you so much man, I was doubting if buying one as everyone told me they could not get connected to the computer due to that they have no midi output, but I thought they might be some ways to record what they process... and you made it very clear, I can buy what I need in order to do so as I have my own external soundcard and I'll definitelly go buy the one I like the most. Very much appreciated.
frida is adorable! i had no idea i could back up my tracks! this is why i stopped using it, i have the perfect song on there and don’t want it to die!
Thank you! I just got my first Pocket Operator, the PO-16, which can't do backups, but the explanation on how to record to your DAW is simply perfect!
Dual quarter mono to 8 inch stereo cable was one of two things that worked for me (I tried different stuff for 4 months and was pretty sad about backups not working) The other thing is dual quarter to dual quarter directly into a ZOOM H2n.
Very helpful....didn't notice this level of information in my PO-33 manual...thanks Ricky...
I’ve been watching all your po-33 videos and I reaaaaly like your content man.
Thank you so much! I've been wondering how to do this for the longest time, saw backups mentioned in the PO manual but never figured it out.
In case anyone was wondering, backed up my PO-33 onto my Tascam DR-05 using a normal 3.5mm (stereo obviously) aux cable into the line in. I then whacked the recorded backup onto my laptop and played it through the same 3.5mm cable via audacity!
This kind of informational video's make the world a better place.
man i'm glad you show the ableton steps... getting my first PO-33 project into my first run with ableton could have been a lot more challenging without this haha
Ha I watched this vid for the first time over a year ago and just completed my first successful KO data transfer. I am overjoyed. Thx for all tips Ricky!
Ty, was trying it many times and didnt realize that it can take 3+ min and never goes through the end, now will try again with your tips!
Wasn’t a video like this out, so thanks this was really clear
Awesome! This was one of the things that concerned me in deciding whether or not to buy one of these. Looks like this answers that question. Thanks Enrique! Your channel is one of my favorites! By the way, watching your tutorials on the Novation Circuit convinced me to buy one and I absolutely love it!
thanks Brent! yea this backups have always been a bit taboo i felt. but they're not as difficult as some people make it out to be! Glad you found this video helpful as well as the others!
For your PO-33 and Zoom H1, I can recommend volume 12 on the PO, and lo cut off, auto level off, WAV 48kHz/16bit and input level 17 on the H1. Hope that helps. #H1represent
Badass thank you!
@@RickyTinez My pleasure
@@RickyTinez I cant afford an audio interface, can i plug in the cable into my laptop and record that way?
UPDATE: Turns out, MP3 @ 320 also works.

Cool tutorial, I didn't know how to record stereo in live, so I learnt something too. The data transfer reminds of of home computers with tape cassettes.
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
Super video demo, many thanks Ricky!
Love the vids bud. You're a natural teacher.
Wow! Great information!
I have never been able to transfer data from my computer to PO-33.
Now I know what cables I need.
Thank you very much for your help!
Cheers man, wouldn't of been able to back up without this. All worked swell.
I come back to this video every time! Cheers man
Thank you for this resource! I just got a 32.tonic and wasn't sure what the best solution for me would be. Getting a dual mono jack will be ideal for recording quick jams
Brilliant, well made, easy to follow, 10 stars.
This is the most helpful video ever, I honestly cant thank you enough
If using Ableton make sure to turn off Warp button (if it is set to auto) in the audio track for your back up when sending back to the PO. I dont know how sensitive the PO is but one day I wasted literally 2 hours trying to load some patches on a Juno 60 lol
Thanks for making these videos it helps out a ton!
i love you're videos. Best vibe!
Dig your videos and recommend them to people (in person). You already know this, but naming the ableton tracks prior to recording names the tracks. You can probably name all the tracks (audio files) after the recording. Whoever figures out how that’s done wins a prize. I like to name things afterwards.. as I don’t know what it wants to be named until I hear it half the time. Bonus points for ableton sample chop exported to another folder without having to dork around with the workaround.
Glad to hear you quit your square job to do this. Dig. Oh ps., if you’re a programmer you have to, some day, make an interesting music gadget. In the meantime.. keep up the solid efforts.
Best,
g
thanks - this was super helpful - also your videos are primo in terms of production!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am horrible at things like this but somehow you've guided me through it and I was able to do it! Subscribed :)
Woooo glad I could help!
I can't thank you enough for this video! I was about to try to do a backup using my mono Olympus recorder, but I thought "I wonder if Enrique's done a video on the Pocket Operator backup feature?" I just successfully backed up and restored using a 1/8" stereo to dual 1/4" mono cable and my TASCAM DP-008EX. w00t-w00t!
Hell yea! Glad i got you covered Freddy, You have any music up? i'd love to check it out!
@@RickyTinez Thanks for the interest man! I don't currently have anything on social media, but I will soon. After a hiatus of 15 years I'm resurrecting my old music/circuit bending hobby from the '90s with today's amazing noise toys. So many fantastic pieces of equipment were coming out at affordable prices, I couldn't NOT get back into it! Most all of my music was recorded on 4-track cassette, and I'm now in the process of transferring it to digital media (super tedious!) I'll be sure to leave you a link in a comment on one of your future vids once I get some headway.
Hi Freddy. I'm glad I found your comment. I also have a TASCAM DP-008EX. I was only able to recover a partial backup. I am missing drum banks 11-16. The counter on the PO-33 gets to 39 and then it gives me an error during the data transfer from my TASCAM. Would you mind sharing the steps you took? Thank you!
I have both the PO-33 and 35 and I knew the 35 could be backed up with data file recording, but I didn't know if the 33 could? thank you for showing!🙏👍✌
Thank you so much. I was unable to figure out how to backup patterns.
AYE! great video man, really appreciate it!

Thanks man
Another thoroughly useful clip
Great work man👍
I appreciate it man! I got a few styles here, let me know what you think!

I can't believe it. Just a few hours before watching the video I backed up my PO-33 to my phone for the first time. Pretty sure the backup was mono, so it's gone.
Oh well :)
Thanks for another great video!
Give us more!!!! perfect job bro!
I know this is an Old video but it helped me out Tremendously, Thank you.
dude you help me so much! Left a sub, you are going strong man!
Yo! Thank you thank you thank you!
Thx rickey. I learned a lot with you.
Thanks for your helpful videos!
Finally a video where AUTO FOCUS is actually doing a good job! Thanks for the tutorial!
great video, very clear and repeated the key important parts. thanks man.
Thank you so much for this video!, Great work! It really helps.
great tutorial and easy to follow. See you later oscillator (awesome cap 😄)
Great to meet you. Works perfectly. Thanks!
amazing! thanks for saying hey Al, speak soon
Dude, your content is killer, thank you so much.
Awesome video very easy to follow. I was always interested in electronic music and am more serious about it now I just discovered your channel and don't know if they exist yet but was looking for a program more on the windows side of things. Do you have any suggestions and would you do a video in the future about them?
This was so helpful. Thank you.
Thanks Rico, watched a few PO 33 in last few days and subscrbed. Great info and quality recordings. Respect Dimitri Sydney Au
Thanks for the useful video! 🙌🏻
All this is amazing Mr Ricky but one mystery remains : where can we find this little gem you cooked up ? 🌊🙏
Thank you! Great Video!
I love this man.
Awesome, thanks for making this video :)
Thanks! You've helped a lot!!!
loving your videos! can i ask, as i’m
not super organised with my ableton... do you find it easier to have all your PO back ups / audio files in one PO project file/live set, then? or do you have a live set for each one?
You can also send the backup track back to the PO the same way that you recorded it into the computer with? Except the dual mono-cables would be in the left/right output on the AI and the 3,5 mm stereo would be in the input of the PO
The hat ! Yessssss
Wow! This is gold!!!!!
Your vids are the best
As an aside, I recently read a couple comments here www.operator-1.com/index.php?p=/discussion/4163/po-33-ko-owners-questions-observations/ that suggest you're better off wiping factory sounds before backing up if your sample memory is full or close to it, otherwise the PO will attempt to restore the factory sounds too instead of just skipping over them and using the self-generated ones, giving you an error and basically rendering your backup obsolete unless you break off the lock tab or something.
Iv been recording my p.o into the tuscam dp008 i can duplicate the tracks and play one panned more to left and one paned more to right ..i some times just record it straight to mini disc but like messing about with the tuscam that way i can live record stuff over it to edit it with the Yamaha DJx...works for me
He’s no Enrique Iglesias, but is a pretty damn good Enrique Martinez ! PO videos are proper top of the range ! Thanks
brilliant. man great explanation. i do think it says "rcv" maybe for receive -- but ey it's all mad digital looking, so :)
Ah good catch! Thanks for that info man
Send:Write+Sound+Play Recieve:Write+Sound+Record
groso !!!! gracias man un gusto encontrarte
Amazing content
Eyyy that hat is dopee
thank you! very helpfull!!
Hey-o Ricky, thanks so much for all your tutorials and videos!
I seem to have an issue with restoring a backup with my K.O.
For some reason after the 3 (out of 4) minutes, my K.O. screen says "ERR" and it stops the restore, some samples are also gone.
I'm recording the backup on Ableton Live, stereo etc. exactly as you're doing it.
Thank you so much
Thank you!!
Hey man I love your videos! I have the PO-133 on the way. I suppose since it’s based off the KO with just street fighter samples it can still be backed up like all of the 30 series?
“I may or may not have got scared at that part” 😂😂
I love your dog also I don’t have an audio interface I have a pocket operator pp-33
Great video
Intuitive tutorial mate! I dont understand the technology behind this but it is absolutely smart.. does it also back up your own recorded samples??
Yep!
They should make a vst that reads your backups and allows you to manipulate what you made but on your computer
Hi Ricky! I was just thinking what happens if you record chords into Speak? Have you tried that? I will hopefully today! All the best compadre! :)
I like the way he says "pink". It got me going...bro.
Amazing video. Is there any chance to record using a Scarlett Solo?
Heck yea
Wow never knew this!
Love your videos Ricky - I'm a middle aged beginner so forgive this stupid question but am I right in thinking that using a field recorder rather than the 2i2 interface would result in a mono recording?
I'm old and trying to get my head around really basic stuff, sorry :'-)
I actually ordered a trrs aux cable and am able to plug my PO 33 into my phone and record my patterns via a voice recorder. The trrs cable tricks the phone into thinking there is a microphone plugged in but it is getting input from the po. This way I don't have to plug it into my computer every time I want to back it up.
whoa that's awesome, i use something similar with the iPhone but i hear that the recordings are Mono. Which phone are you on?
Enrique Martinez yeah mine is also in mono I just record only the sound coming out of my PO.
@@uglynate757 how do you back it up on the phone if the phone records in mono
This is great! I successfully transferred my PO 33 data using an audio interface, but I still don't understand how back up the audio with my field recorder! How to?
Very helpful
Yes !!!
Sick.
thanks for this E!
At 2:51, Ricky turns into The Rock. Carry on…
