Thank you so much! I've been wondering how to do this for the longest time, saw backups mentioned in the PO manual but never figured it out. In case anyone was wondering, backed up my PO-33 onto my Tascam DR-05 using a normal 3.5mm (stereo obviously) aux cable into the line in. I then whacked the recorded backup onto my laptop and played it through the same 3.5mm cable via audacity!
Ha I watched this vid for the first time over a year ago and just completed my first successful KO data transfer. I am overjoyed. Thx for all tips Ricky!
Dual quarter mono to 8 inch stereo cable was one of two things that worked for me (I tried different stuff for 4 months and was pretty sad about backups not working) The other thing is dual quarter to dual quarter directly into a ZOOM H2n.
I actually ordered a trrs aux cable and am able to plug my PO 33 into my phone and record my patterns via a voice recorder. The trrs cable tricks the phone into thinking there is a microphone plugged in but it is getting input from the po. This way I don't have to plug it into my computer every time I want to back it up.
Great video as well as all of your videos! I really like that you have put this much interest in the pocket operators, and I like that you are trying to explain as much as possible info for them, but I'd like to let you know that I don't mind just jam videos with you trying to make songs with them! Very much appreciated.
Dig your videos and recommend them to people (in person). You already know this, but naming the ableton tracks prior to recording names the tracks. You can probably name all the tracks (audio files) after the recording. Whoever figures out how that’s done wins a prize. I like to name things afterwards.. as I don’t know what it wants to be named until I hear it half the time. Bonus points for ableton sample chop exported to another folder without having to dork around with the workaround. Glad to hear you quit your square job to do this. Dig. Oh ps., if you’re a programmer you have to, some day, make an interesting music gadget. In the meantime.. keep up the solid efforts. Best, g
As an aside, I recently read a couple comments here www.operator-1.com/index.php?p=/discussion/4163/po-33-ko-owners-questions-observations/ that suggest you're better off wiping factory sounds before backing up if your sample memory is full or close to it, otherwise the PO will attempt to restore the factory sounds too instead of just skipping over them and using the self-generated ones, giving you an error and basically rendering your backup obsolete unless you break off the lock tab or something.
Dumb starter guy question while i wait for my PO to arrive in the mail: i still don't get why i can't do the backup/transfer with an auxiliary cable directly?
Newbie here too. I just got my PO and have been trying to connect it to my Macbook Pro, to use in Garageband. Apparently, headphones that have a built-in microphone have a 3-ring AUX whereas normal headphones have only two, so based on that fact one could assume that (at least) one 3-ring AUX cable is needed. However I just received my cable and my Macbook still doesn't recognize the PO as a possible input source, so I guess a receiver is needed for that
im also having this problem. Do you need a audio interface to be able to get your beats into ableton? doesnt work with a three ring cable and i think it’s because the macbook doesnt have a line-in port
i don't use daws or have a po-33 but my first trial and error would've been playing it directly to audacity at full volume and saving it, wondering why this wouldn't work before that obviously i'd have actually put it into my op-1 but if i didn't have it, audacity would've been my go to
Yes, but the challenge with not using an external sound card is that audio sometimes sucks on computers. Also many laptops now have mono mic and stereo headphones input. That said you can use a stereo lead direct to a stereo input. We use Audacity with Beringer 18 input interface. That way we have dedicated out and in for our stereo mini jack devices.

Amazing video. Is there any chance to record using a Scarlett Solo?
At 2:51, Ricky turns into The Rock. Carry on…
I have a scarlett, I want my pocket to sound in my speakers, what kind of cables do I need?

I have a Scarlett solo, would I have to get different cords? If so could you assist me on the type to get.
This is great! I successfully transferred my PO 33 data using an audio interface, but I still don't understand how back up the audio with my field recorder! How to?
Thank you! Great Video!

Super helpful, but is there anyway to backup non 30-series model? (I'm looking at the cheaper PO-14)
Would something like a tascam DP-006 work for recording a PO33?
groso !!!! gracias man un gusto encontrarte
Hey, another question. when I sample a melodic element, it maps to the po-33 in a certain scale. I was wondering if I could change that scale. Thanks!
Not that I know of. Someone said pentatonic scale is what it sets too.
i don’t know if you’ve figured this out yet, but i just got one not too long ago and this might help you out. found this
Minor scale: Play pad 13 and tune sample to root note
Major scale: Play pad 15 and tune sample to root note
I don’t think it can be chromatic.
@@BurtReyes With the minor scale is it normal with the b6 or is it Dorian mode?
Sterio mini-jack to 2 mono big-jack is like cable-porn. Best cable ever!
