Teenage Engineering have done a great job with the P.O 33, its like that perfect balance between features and quick operation. Don't ya just love it when things are as simple as possible, it enables flow. I've ordered my P.O 33, can't wait 'till it lands on my porch!
Discovered your channel this year when, at the ripe old age of 47 and despite being poor, I decided I wanted to be even poorer (haha!) and start getting into electronic music creation. (Found you when looking for PO33 videos) Love your videos. Always informative, and unlike other hosts I won’t name you’re always fun to watch and your jams are sweet! Plus your intro is awesome. (What synth is the knob turning bit done on?) I learned how to get more from my PO33 thanks to you! Merry Christmas, and thank you!
Stromberg, i really really appreciate you. That comment was awesome. Hows the PO been getting on? As for the knob turn at the beginning its on one of my favorites, the Peak.
Bought a P033 because of Ricky's video. I really wanted an Ensoniq Mirage because that was the first sampler I worked with back in 1987 but 90 bucks was better than paying inflated prices on a Mirage. I should have bought the rack when I saw it for 75 bucks =(
I recently bought this sampler in the same case. Just an amazing device! So it's great that you can sample something from your phone through a minijack and make a beat while you are on the subway from one end of the city to the other.
Wow man, you're really fast at editing and building a groove on this thing. I just bought one recently and am pretty clumsy with it so far. Thanks for your inspiration
This is great, thank you for sharing. Why are you copying sounds to other numbers instead of just using the one it's on? Mine arrived today and am trying to figure it out
Definitely Impressed with the ko...dont know why mpcs ect have to be so complicated when t.e proved it doesn't have to be ..id like to see a professional version come out with same workflow around same price
I just bought one of these and am starting to dig into it. But I was looking to get a silicon case for it. Which one did you buy? The CA-X version? I read on Amazon that it has fit issues but yours looks like it fits perfectly. Assuming you have the CA-X version of the case.
Seeing as you have an MPC, and probably other samplers, what is it about this little thing that draws you to it? I love little grooveboxes. I have a Deluge, Op-1 and the venerable Yamaha QY-70, so I totally get the Compact Creations aesthetic. To be more specific, do you feel like you are making “pro” music ( wtf that means), with these little boxes?
Great question, I love this small sampler because it reminds me of the MPC2000. Very barebones in terms of what I consider to be a good sampler. Chromatic playing of samples, chopping, lowpass filter, trimming samples, and direct sampling in. It's all of that and more! in the size of my hand. Another plus for me is that it is NOT endless. Which makes me think more rather than just going and going and going.
@@RickyTinez It's not chromatic lol. It's locked to harmonic minor. You can deal with it by transposing the sample, but anyways it seems that u can't play mixolydian mode and melodic minor on it..
This is dope! Trying out some of your techniques on my PO33... but I'm wondering if you (or any others) have advice on how to choose those jazz samples? Generally we're looking for samples without drums right? Any considerations of sample BPM? Any other ways to pick out good samples for slicing? Thanks!

Hey Victor, you must have recorded him onto pads 9-16 instead of pads 1-8. The bottom 2 rows (9-16) are drum pads, so it'll chop the sample up. But you should be able to copy the sound from the drum section to the Melodic section (1-8), Select the sound first, then press REC + Sound + the pad you want to COPY TO. Then it'll transfer it there. Hope that helps
Trying to use a DJ controller for scratching and a modular synth for the master keyboard to add more sound. Would I even need a big sampler/beatpad like akai to make beats like this or would the PO be alright? the PO would right along a DJ Pioneer 800
Is there a way of playing the tracks individually into, say garageband on iphone? It would be cool to play it straight in for some cool arrangements and effects
Yea in order to have a hat over a sound you have to have that sound as a sample 1-8 and not in the kit 9-16. Cuz it's mono but other than that it's sick. I just connected 5 of mine last night P.O Rhythm, sub, arcade, speak, and knock out with my Volca fm connected to ableton. With Traktor via ableton link.

Hey i really love you videos. Just ordered a po 33 with your affiliate link. Can you maybe help me with a question? How do you record your voice and the sound of the po33 in your video. Is the po just playing with a loudspeaker and the microphone of your camera records it or is it more technical. Thinking about making some videos of my op-z and don’t know how to record the sounds properly without getting to expensive.
I split a tooth on some xmas goodies, so right now I'm on ambien and oxy. Your track right at 4:20 sounds dope, homes. Gonna loop it till I fall asleep
Awesome video, been really getting into the POs because of your vids, really love how much work you put into them. Quick question, what do you think of the po12 rhythm. I know the po33 is much more versatile, but someone on a budget, the po12 is much more affordable. I would love to watch your take on it and or your style and experience applied to the po12. Thanks!
What’s up Josh, I appreciate your comment. I really like the 12, it’s great for just drums. But if you want to really good drum machine out of the pocket operators I would suggest you take a look at the tonic. But if the 12 fits your budget it’s a great choice.
Nice vids man, tutorials really helped me at the start. Love the po33. Got mine a couple months back. Got bigger samplers (korg esx that's not working well and a boss sp505) but prefer the workflow on the po33 as its limitations force you to work differently... like I'll spend months digging for samples and filling my korg or boss, then I have so many samples I dunno where to start, and the endless possibilities make you procrastinate... with the po33 I have to go into it with specific samples and the limitation of 16 patterns makes you construct songs more efficiently....... I'd prefer if it had 32 patterns (add a second pattern bank accessible by holding 'pattern') but it's still so useful to have until I get my korg serviced and fully working, even then I know I'll still use it a lot, the effects are perfect for many styles of music, especially anything glitchy
I just have received mine, literally a couple of hours ago. Do you have any beginner-friendly suggestions on what could be a good starting distribution for samples like "use just a drum set, a chord, and 3-4 riffs samples" , or a good place to find them other than youtube? (i'm not sure i'm phrasing the question correctly, sorry)
@@Stormsson get all my sounds from free daws (LMMS + CAUSTIC, any random online synth I can find) and from freesound.org or sampleswap.org ... personally I organize my drums in slots 9-10-13-14, and that takes about 10-15 secs of my sampletime... if your sampling long riffs and vox your best off sampling them at double speed and dropping them an octave in the po. You can do the same with instruments (usually find it better to record a bass an octave higher and drop it on the po, as if you record a low bass tone you seem to get more 'artifacts'
I love all the PO-33 videos man! Thanks for making all these. Any tips on good sources for drum kits? I’ve had a little luck on op1.fun but I’m liking the kits you use

Can u view the Waveform ?
Tee Bee nah, you have to trim the samples by ear
dope
building something cool for the po-33 - enrique if you have time would love to show you what i got.
I was watching this on my tv and I really need to clean my case with a qtip. :/
@POPOLAND !!!
I love all the PO-33 videos man! Thanks for making all these. Any tips on good sources for drum kits? I’ve had a little luck on op1.fun but I’m liking the kits you use
Just find some drum sounds you like and throw them in! that's all i've been doing :) make a 16 sample loop in ableton and play it in.
This is so nice! Just busted the screen of my PO-33 D: really wish there was a way to get it fixed :/
Oh no! How did that happen?
@@RickyTinez Unpacking after my trip back to Norway. Unloaded the bags, handbags, got to my knee to unlock my other bag.. and I heard the cracking sound of doom D: Well it does still work, but of all the POs, I feel the screen on this one is a tad important ^^;;;
Well.. Guess I will have to get that Digitakt a bit sooner now, and donate the PO to someone who does not mind a broken screen and can tinker with it ^^
*sigh* and just as I was discovering the love for sampling..
non it is the OPZ the tiniest studio tool production !

Yo ricky, great jams as usual. One question, would you rather use this in a live performance scenario? or maybe a volca sample instead? This one seems really fun and groovy. Keep on w those funky ass house beats! Peace
Didn’t know calculators did that
what wouldve been if he kept the swing as was....
Drums are always easy but successful songs are difficult
Can you just play the individual samples, so I can get them off of you RUclips video? :-)
Nice cap
Soft.

solid groove!
i just wanna listen to jazz now
Have they made the case any better for the PO-33? I heard that the earlier ones for the 12 for example weren't very good and it was better to just have no case at all.
the cases are okay. It might be easier to play without the case to be completely honest, the buttons have a more tactile feel when the case is off.
i like mine from dich studios
