Finally someone who knows to use his tool. Just how much powerfull this camera is for filmmakink. And this guy is using it for stills. Good job my man.
A heads-up that it has to my attention that Sigma is preparing a first massive v2.0 firmware update, addressing some of the initial issues and criticisms from user's feedback since it's original release, and adding some very interesting new features including: - SDK Support Software for third-party developers and apps' integration. - Support for CinemaDNG 120/100fps (FHD 8bit) internal recording. - Improved performance and video recording capabilities. - Improved AF operation in C mode. - Cinemagraph functionality. - Still image shooting during live view. - Expanded movie shooting in Cine mode. - HDR stills and video. - Director’s Viewfinder direct recording function. - Improved SD Card compatibility and write/read speeds for expanded internal recording modes and capabilities. All-in-all this is great news and I feel all current and future users of this camera can look forward to the update, supposedly within the next 2 to 3 months. This will hopefully by the start of a new lease on the camera's life and long-term wider success and market acceptance moving forward.
@@TECH360TV I agree but for all practical matters the FP is actually already an extremely capable stills camera, both on details rendered and great high ISO performance. In fact I think the FP is on par with the A7III (probably because of using the same sensor) and among the best in the FF 24MP category. The one thing lacking is AF performance but that will never become substantially better. Being that its just contrast-detect, no amount of firmware updates will ever bring it up to par with any modern camera using phase-detect.
Yes contrast based AF is slower but argument is better image quality. It can still be improved though and look forward to those. I like it a lot for stills.
First Sigma FP review I agree 100%. I sold my S1 for the FP cus it’s so light to carry. I maybe add a S1R to my kit later to make the extra weight worth carry. I really like how make the reviews based on it person who would buy the camera. Other reviewers makes comparisons with cameras that are not even meant to be aimed to same audience. You get Sigma FP for what it is and what it don’t do you accept because it do the things you want it to really really good or not the best. I rock it with Lumix S Pro lenses and Leica M lenses.l Cheers, Jonas
I have an S1R and have been thinking of an FP for the same reasons. Also would be nice to have two bodies to avoid lens swapping as much. If they release some smaller L mount lenses I'll probably get one.
Although a Hybrid camera IMO......the sigma is a Ceni camera first and foremost (Not for stills) and belongs in a cage on a shoulder rig or tripod for manual focus pulling run-N-gun the things you are complaining about for sigma to change I don't notice on my SIGMA fp as I ONLY use it for caged Cinema run-N-gun (What it was made for) The fast menu system is easy to access and change the ISO on the fly and the small form factor lends itself to a plethora of CENI style buildups (Like the RED or Z cam) Sincerest regards, Rick
You see it as a cinema camera first, which is completely understandable, but it was designed to be a hybrid and that’s where some things are challenging on it.
@@TECH360TV I totally agree with you but I guess my point is to NOT buy it as a Stills camera or you will be disappointed...As a Cine camera this thing rocks....... You're doing a hell of a job and your channel is growing fast Best regards, Rick
Thanks. Taking my FP on a two week trip to France next month, still photography, all manual with M glass. Hoping there’s s firmware update before then.
I think your review is pretty accurate and fair. I tried the FP...I REALLY wanted to like it because it IS a very small full frame powerhouse camera in many respects. I could not get past the funky ergonomics and buggy software that locked the camera or suddenly halted the function I was trying to activate. I could not adapt to using the exposure wheel on the back of the camera either. The wheel is very sensitive and easily jostled. I still think the camera has great potential and it will be investing to see how much improvement comes via firmware. But the rear exposure wheel...UGH. And the optional viewfinder loupe should have a flip up function or be easy to take on/off w/o fiddly screws that are easy to lose.
Thanks for watching and the comment. I was hoping Sigma would have addressed some of these issues via firmware or even a button replacement but perhaps maybe in the future she. The pandemic subsided.
Hi Bobby John Ishii here I met you at the SL2 launch in KL. I bought this fp and that back wheel drove me nuts. I went out all day shooting with my Leica M lens 35 sumilux and got great pictures and when I transferred the files to my Photoshop I noticed , hey why is the file size so tiny? Then to my horror I Looked inside the view finder and for some damn reason the file was set to the smallest file size of 6 mp!! Well I found out that I had bumped the wheel during a quick menu set up and the file size went from the hightest to the lowest setting!!! The wheel just moved the file size!!! I was livid!!! Then I opened the battery compartment and I said hey now I canj’t get my SD card out!!! I need tweezers! Then finally I was able to spring it out by turning the camera completely around. What a hassle! The the banding is crazy when you shoot indoors!! You can’t there is so much banding!! Try it.
Hi John!! Yes I remember! Sorry to hear you were experiencing the same things I was with the camera. That dial needs fixing. I hope Sigma offers a repair service on it. Yes I experienced the banding too. Had to adjust the shutter speed to get the shots correct. Luckily I was shooting still subjects so I could work around it, however if it was fast action I would need to pull out the iPhone.
Great content. If Sigma would update the firmware and make a modular evf that hangs out where the hotshoe module sits... They would probably actually sell some of these cameras. I was intent on buying the Sigma l mount camera (because I can't stand Panasonic color science), but that viewfinder loupe killed it for me
Great overview! Is that the Sigma L mount 24-70 with OS? According to the listing on B&H, that version of the lens doesn't have it. Seems odd that they would put OS in the Canon version but not the one for their own camera.
rgarciamainou I though it was a fair review in his experience with the FP. Everyone isn’t going to like everything about the FP and as B said “this is version A”and there will be an a version B improvement. Now I will want to play this this for video and photos as a manual shooting. But don’t have L lenses or E-mount lenses but I do have a Irix 150mm canon mount version and some A-Mount lenses like the Signa 18-35 Art lens just to named a few
thanks for the in-depth review. I am undecided after extensive research. What are your thoughts on working with the uncompressed 12bit file size? Also, I'd appreciate your perspective on comparing the EOSR to the FP if you please.

TECH360.TV awb, standard colour mode, edit in adobe camera raw. The output colour seems much better in adobe camera raw than that in sigma’s spp software.
TECH360.TV I used to. I’m a dp2 merrill user. But now I use spp only to transfer x3 file to tiff, and do the rest jobs in adobe camera raw, because some hues are not very like what we see, like the plant’s green, the sun’s orange in the evening.
If they found a way to create it similar to the Fuji X Pro 3 in terms of the screen and maybe if they got the EVF from Leica the Viso flex and possibly added a optical viewfinder element to it it would be perfect For documentary, street and as well as private investigator work. 🕵️♂️
Been looking forward to this follow up since there is more of a focus on photography here. Thanks! Btw, Singapore needs some recycling bins. Pretty commonplace in Europe and East Asia for decades. Come on UNESCO site.
Good review. I tested the FP a week. and i loved her. But 4 points make me not buying it. 1: it NEEDS a tilt EVF like the Fuji GFX or at least an articulating screen. 2: the body should be a little bit bigger that the extra grip can be avoided. And: 3: The body should be only so big that IBIS can be included. 4: missing IBIS Then i would buy the FP Add one 5: when including the first 4 points Then put a 35mm Foveon sensor in it ;-)
I think Sigma learned a lot from this camera and the next version will be a big improvement. All your points are valid but number 5 might be hard. Not sure if Foveon can compete with the mainstream sensors when it comes to Low light etc. Image quality definitely, but we need to shoot at higher iso than 200
@@TECH360TV You are right. Sigma reseted the foveon project and started from scratch. EDIT: And i forgot; at least 36-45 MP would be nice too...
Thanks! Can you tell what dioptric correction did you use with the LVF -11? Because mine gives the sharpest/ comfortable image only between -2.0 and -1.5 . Some people have reported the same. Shouldn't the best position be around 0 in the case of normal vision or proper glasses?
That is true. Singapore does not play when you litter and if you do litter and people see you liter, well be prepared to pack your belongings and get on a flight back to wherever you came from
I noticed a strange thing with in camera stills playback ( Here is the illustration ruclips.net/video/szSSjqCzvHE/видео.html) : during scrolling through images there is about 1 second lag when your see low res blurry preview and only then full res imag, no matter raw or jpeg . But with zoom in stills or during slideshow everything works instantly as it should . It is really annoying ,especially with the viewfinder, when you need to fast review multiple stills you’ve just shot .Have you run into this?
Yes it happens. Not sure what processing is happening in the background but it’s an issue. I just keep shooting because majority of the images are sharp when I see them on a computer.
@@TECH360TV Yes, we can live with that but what is much worse, there is 0.1 seconds shutter lag in stills mode. The recorded picture is the picture that has been taken 0.1 seconds later than the picture/frame shown (and briefly frozen) in the camera display after pressing the shutter button.
This camera is made for cinema and video. I hope they never put image stabilisation. Remeber gh4.....yea.... There is a reason why manufactures dont put ois in even more expensive cinema cameras. Great video by the way : )
If shooting M lenses it wouldn’t do burst mode. That was the deal breaker for me. Seems burst mode is only with L mount? After taking a photo you couldn’t take another until that one was processed!
@@TECH360TV yes, and you have to wait about 2 seconds and watch a 'spinning egg timer' before you can take another photo. This can mean missing a vital moment. I don't know why Sigma crippled the camera in this way. Great image and colours but I if just want to take one photo I may as well shoot film!
@@TECH360TV Very nice video bro. I see the FP as a tool for us to unlock all of our old lenses in our moisture-proof box. Compact full-frame camera without the crop factor!!!! I am waiting for the FP2 with EVF and a flip screen. It will be so cool!
@@philipyeung6054 you can also buy a Sony A7 (can be found for 300.-) and you have also super small body, great viewfinder, solid iso up to 6400 (who needs more than this?) and you can adapt almost any lens to it as well!
Just saw this video. You should also put a tape to cover the swoosh. Nike executives are laughing at this video, by the fact that, the swoosh can identify the product much more than the name (just look at athletes sponsored by Nike). Sorry, can't help to comment on it. With regards to the FP,, I do appreciate the honest feedback. One thing that I can't understand is, why the slow autofocus? Did Sigma tested this ONLY on bright and sunny days? Maybe their research and quality control are on a heavily lit room.
Image quality the Sigma wins especially in low light, but the SL wins for ergonomics, mechanical shutter and EVF. I personally would go with the SL2-S if your thinking of an SL though
Hey, I have a Sigma fp. Very cool camera but I have two issues. When I shoot stills, either DNG or Jpeg, I can't review the files by hitting the playback button until they have finished writing to the cards. I haven't had this issue with any other cameras I've owned. Also, when recording video the background audio hiss is loud unless I set the levels to at least -30. Anyone else have this problem?
@@TECH360TV Yes I have firmware 2.0. do you have these same issues? I've tried two copies and both had the same problem. So perhaps it's inherent, or something I'm not doing correctly. Regarding not being able to review previews until the files have finished writing to the card, perhaps I need a faster SD card (mine are SanDisk 80mb/s). But I usually don't shoot continuous burst mode... Perhaps the audio hiss is inherent with internal audio recording?
If only the FP2 came with the magnificent Foveon sensor and tweaked it for low light shooting (oh and yes, IBIS, proper grip, better menu system, Black Magic compressed RAW and internal 4.2.2 10/12/14 bit) then...we'll be talking serious business.
Colours are absolutely beautiful, and it really shows in your video. I'm really tempted by this camera, but man, all those quirks...I dunno. Again, great video, thnaks!
I'm planning on getting it. You do have to trust Sigma to fix all the fucked up stuff, though. To me, a company that can make something like their Art lenses and can egineer the crazy heat dissipation of a full frame sensor with weather sealing .. I'll trust them.
@@TECH360TV Even if it wasn't such a museum piece of design.. The portability and capability.. There's nothing like it. Whoever wants to can stick with their 8 bit shit sony codec and use their autofocus, I'll focus by myself and play with cDNG full frame in my pocket any day, thank you very much xD
lol, I am still waiting on your first piece of acting film, at least try, Kai Hong will gladly shot it for fun... Or I have to fly to Singapore next year.
Because photography isn’t just about technical specs or software issues. It’s a sum of the experience from ergonomics to image quality to just overall feeling with it.
Yes that’s the one thing that always sticks out a a glaring issue. I’m sure they could fix it. Perhaps I’ll talk the distributor here and see if Sigma will replace it
You threw away that bottle to test your camera guys manual focus skills didn’t you! Haha but I love my sigma fp all the gripes I have you nailed on the head especially that stupid sd card slot!!!
This has got to be one of the most unsuccessful cameras ever made. Why? Well, In Hong Kong where i currently work, you cannot give the Sigma FP cameras away, no joke! You can find them EVERYWHERE on second-hand camera shops and dealers.. everywhere! Sold like new for pennies on the dollar most of them in original box just a couple months old, or weeks.. some for much less than half of original price in 100% new condition, all papers and new warranty included. I really wonder why.. Quite frankly, I knew since Sigma's announcement that it would be a flop.. it's simply too small and become ridiculously unbalanced by the time you add just about any lens to it (and let's not even talk about matching it with Cinema lenses which looks ridiculous). Plus realistically its truly full of quirks and compromises, misses on features that everyone wants (some of them very obvious and basic), uses a lens mount for which natively there are almost no lenses.. the list goes on. Still, as a concept (call it really what it is) I always thought Sigma was bold and courageous and it's spec sheet includes surely some impressive features. I've actually been thinking to get one for myself just to try it out and see where all this unpopularity is all about.
I think it’s a camera that’s more niche than mainstream. It’s not a Sony or a Canon. It has its charm but for those that look for that in a camera. Sigma does some really cool things when it comes to cameras and I’m excited to see what’s next. The FP is the beginning. If they take the feedback and build off this platform It will be exciting.
@@TECH360TV Thanks for the reply. I fully agree with you and really hope they don't get discouraged with the sales of the camera and go back to the drawing board for a second version in the future. If they take people's feedback and improve on the camera's features and usability, I think an updated version could be truly fantastic. Thanks for your video!
I will buy it cause I like the looks of it and it's full frame, mirrorless, and I only use Sigma lenses. So, to me it makes perfect sense. The only thing that concerns me is the wheel being slightly lose and easy to bump.
Purchasing a leica is like buying a luxury watch. Your smart watch will do more but the build quality and engineering of a mechanical luxury watch means something to others
@@TECH360TV If your talking about the film leica cameras 100%, however their digital cameras no. It's not like buying a luxury watch, luxury watch brands innovate constantly. Leica, not anymore. You could say something about rolex but the truth is even they are competitive in the watch market with what their watches do. A smart watch isn't even a watch.
You have a point in Rolex being competitive still, that is if you can find the model you want without that additional premium price :) Do I feel the SL cameras and CL could me more competitive? Yes, but if I look at the M and the Q cameras they still remain extremely popular

There is a Chinese camera mod company already doing that. Also for BMPCC too
@@jamesfansdesigncrossing4184 Oh really? Do you have a link?
Great review ! Love that it’s unbiased and experienced based. Sounds like a beta version of a good camera ...
Thanks for the kind words. The latest update has addressed a number of the issues
I had this happen I did a reset on the camera and it went back to normal
This camera is made for cinema and video. I hope they never put image stabilisation. Remeber gh4.....yea.... There is a reason why manufactures dont put ois in even more expensive cinema cameras. Great video by the way : )
If shooting M lenses it wouldn’t do burst mode. That was the deal breaker for me. Seems burst mode is only with L mount? After taking a photo you couldn’t take another until that one was processed!
I’ll try that tonight and let you know if I experience the same thing. Usually M lens I just shoot one at a time
@@TECH360TV yes, and you have to wait about 2 seconds and watch a 'spinning egg timer' before you can take another photo. This can mean missing a vital moment. I don't know why Sigma crippled the camera in this way. Great image and colours but I if just want to take one photo I may as well shoot film!
One day sigma one dayyyy
that viewfinder LOL HAHA
😊 it’s a big one for sure
Can a sigma 24-70 f2.8 SA mount lens work with this camera?
With an adapter it should
Is Sigma FP better than Leica SL 601?
Image quality the Sigma wins especially in low light, but the SL wins for ergonomics, mechanical shutter and EVF. I personally would go with the SL2-S if your thinking of an SL though
@@TECH360TV OK how about Sony A7R IV ?
Sony wins on resolution, speed and AF.
@@TECH360TV I think A7 r iv improved colour science. But I do prefer the colours on Leica M10.
@@TECH360TV which cameras do you own and shoot with?
Are you going to review the Panasonic S5
Working on it. We don’t have review units here in SG yet
Any options for remote (wireless) operation? An app or hardware, inc 3rd party options? Thanks
For wireless not that I know of.
@@TECH360TV Thanks for the response. Informative and enjoyable review!
Thanks
Hey, I have a Sigma fp. Very cool camera but I have two issues. When I shoot stills, either DNG or Jpeg, I can't review the files by hitting the playback button until they have finished writing to the cards. I haven't had this issue with any other cameras I've owned. Also, when recording video the background audio hiss is loud unless I set the levels to at least -30. Anyone else have this problem?
Have you updated to the latest firmware?
@@TECH360TV Yes I have firmware 2.0. do you have these same issues? I've tried two copies and both had the same problem. So perhaps it's inherent, or something I'm not doing correctly. Regarding not being able to review previews until the files have finished writing to the card, perhaps I need a faster SD card (mine are SanDisk 80mb/s). But I usually don't shoot continuous burst mode... Perhaps the audio hiss is inherent with internal audio recording?
All Sigma cameras I have won't let me review images until the sd card "in use" light goes dark. I never do video so I don't know about the hissing.
Love the Kobe 11 Bruce Lees! Nice camera too
Thanks 🙏
If only the FP2 came with the magnificent Foveon sensor and tweaked it for low light shooting (oh and yes, IBIS, proper grip, better menu system, Black Magic compressed RAW and internal 4.2.2 10/12/14 bit) then...we'll be talking serious business.
Colours are absolutely beautiful, and it really shows in your video. I'm really tempted by this camera, but man, all those quirks...I dunno. Again, great video, thnaks!
Hi Claude!! Thanks for the compliment on the pics. It just depends how you use the camera if these quirks will affect your workflow or not
Great! Waiting for Leica SL2 =P
Me too! Prob when the new firmware comes out I’ll be able to review that
I'm planning on getting it. You do have to trust Sigma to fix all the fucked up stuff, though. To me, a company that can make something like their Art lenses and can egineer the crazy heat dissipation of a full frame sensor with weather sealing .. I'll trust them.
There is a lot of great engineering in this camera. Far exceeds the small faults it has
@@TECH360TV Even if it wasn't such a museum piece of design..
Hahaha I act here on tv and film
Interesting tee.
Yeah a different take from Nike
new firmware... update pls. peace.
If you send the sigma to me I'll fix the wheel 😁
this camera confuses me - most reviews, like this one, are full of deal-breaking problems and yet tend to be positive reviews.
Because photography isn’t just about technical specs or software issues. It’s a sum of the experience from ergonomics to image quality to just overall feeling with it.
@@TECH360TV yeah, I get that - but that wheel would drive me nuts too ;)
Yes that’s the one thing that always sticks out a a glaring issue. I’m sure they could fix it. Perhaps I’ll talk the distributor here and see if Sigma will replace it
latest firmware improves AF performance, FYI
I haven’t seen any demos online so far
i read it's just for video. I dont really know to be honest i just skimmed through the firmware notes.
Yeah same. I’m hoping it’s for both but so far all the RUclipsrs are just focusing on the video aspect
You threw away that bottle to test your camera guys manual focus skills didn’t you! Haha but I love my sigma fp all the gripes I have you nailed on the head especially that stupid sd card slot!!!
Hahahaha actually I didn’t know he was filming it until I saw the edit. Thanks for watching! I think version 2 of the FP will be 🔥🔥🔥
1,800 Bucks plus accessories and lot of things not reliable?
Not a lot just a few that can prob be fixed with software
You can push the SD card to pump up, then take out! LOL
Yes! It wouldn’t come out still
I thought it was the camera conspiracies guy in the opening few seconds, except not funny
You talk like Lea Remini...
That’s a comparison 😂
First
Thanks for watching
Why would anyone buy this, nothing but issues from just about every RUclips video
There are some that take the time to work around issues with cameras and make the most of them because the features it has benefits them.
I will buy it cause I like the looks of it and it's full frame, mirrorless, and I only use Sigma lenses. So, to me it makes perfect sense. The only thing that concerns me is the wheel being slightly lose and easy to bump.
Naw leica is over priced and non competative
Purchasing a leica is like buying a luxury watch. Your smart watch will do more but the build quality and engineering of a mechanical luxury watch means something to others
@@TECH360TV If your talking about the film leica cameras 100%, however their digital cameras no. It's not like buying a luxury watch, luxury watch brands innovate constantly. Leica, not anymore. You could say something about rolex but the truth is even they are competitive in the watch market with what their watches do.
A smart watch isn't even a watch.
You have a point in Rolex being competitive still, that is if you can find the model you want without that additional premium price :)
Do I feel the SL cameras and CL could me more competitive? Yes, but if I look at the M and the Q cameras they still remain extremely popular
