I remember this game being super hard… iirc you had tactical control of the whole team and later missions really required use of the whole team and their abilities.
Love this sneak preview of "Playing EVERY PS2 launch game". If we've got this level of quality already, I can only imagine how great of a sports time we'll have!
@@tylarjackson7928 precisely my grief when I tried this game. Great ideas and potential but, ultimately drab gameplay and repetitive mission structure. It never felt like I was part of the team, but in charge of corralling some NPCs with the emotional urgency of combat as a broken faucet.
I don't think it's pronounced "cross squad" since there's a "w squad" they would logically be the " x squad'" right? I can't believe I put so much thought into a decades old game I've never played or even heard of lol
Usually in Japanese the X character (exsu/batsu) means wrong/incorrect, so could even be interpreted as "wrong squad"- probably why they specifically called it cross squad there
The voice actor for Ash (according to the game booklet) was Dan Houser (yes, THE Dan Houser). I vividly remember reading this as a kid but only confirmation I can find online is the game being listed on his Wikipedia page (voice actor credit)
This game is definetly a product of it's time. Those hairstyles and that funky techno music in the levels. Also Andrew Chaikan, the protagonist's voice actor, plays Dio in the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Dub as well as Scorpion in the current Mortal Kombat games
Excuse me? DIO is voiced by Takehito. Nobody cares about Dubs, they have zero voice acting and are horrifying abominations. And decent people dont watch dubs, so theres that.
I won't lie when my brother bought me a PS2 at launch it was bundled with Kessen and this. I only had ever played a Nes and Snes before it. This game was amazing to me.
I mean the tutorial had to explain a completely new (not really though) controller. So i understand their thinking process behind the in your faceness of it a bit. Not saying it was good thinking.
at that moment the generational jump was pretty big, even crap games would blow our mind, im totally with you my cousin have this game and we have a blast like in 2002 but now... its not that good haha
Tekken Tag is a classic that I could return to even today. X-Squad is quite a forgettable slog, imo. I do say, though, if I hadn't played other actually good PS2 titles for most of my time up before coming into X Squad, I'd probably feel nostalgic about it in the same way that I am about MegaMan X7, having never played a proper MM game before that 🤷🏿♀️
Gotta say this game is the whole 'dawn of the millenium' package: Drum n Bass OST hype (which I personally enjoy), Futuristic dystopian and techy world with some Matrix elements, and some 'rad' character designs (lol).
The readings for this game were probably the best Worst Games Ever readings I've heard. My grammar and spelling sucks.... but not that bad. I'll rewrite this in X-Squad style: The texts of reading this game is best the worst game ever I heard. Grammer and spellings bad but way bad.
This dude just said that the LotR Two Towers game is better than Return of the King, I'm still staring in disbelief as I'm typing this, I may need to call in sick at work tomorrow
It does look like a cool game but my only concern is that It would've been interesting and fun to have a character selection screen to play as other characters
One thing I hate whenever I’ve seen this game in charity shops is it’s like the one PS2 game (in pal) that’s spine isn’t pure white and has something at the bottom
Gameinformer did a play through of that game like six or seven years ago. One of most convoluted disasters of a “survival horror” game I’ve ever seen. The puzzles are absurd.
@@mCreecher91 but can we really trust game reviewers? /s its use of the tube system can seem confusing but its writing/mechanics/presentation was pretty good imo. i double checked every body and that dude floating...
21:36 Wait a minute... Okay, I think I may officially watch too much pro-wrestling, but was that the very tail end of "Being The Elite"s current intro???
@3:44 LOL. A 6 ft 8 character who is barely a head taller than his 5ft6 female teammates. 😂 They used his tinder height. Also why is the biggest guy your "recon" dude
I have the cover art of this game burned into my brain from seeing it on the shelves at Blockbuster so much back in the early 2000's
i loved this game, especially when you get the whole squad together you can command them to attack/defend areas. definitely not a terrible game.
In my younger days I had a lot of fun with this game. It not as terrible as people think it is an early release game but I was not disappointed.
X Squad sounds like some kind of fake Poundland cross over action figures featuring the Suicide Squad and X men
I remember this game being super hard… iirc you had tactical control of the whole team and later missions really required use of the whole team and their abilities.
When I heard the squad members were AI controlled I got a flashback to Daikatana.
X-Squad was the game I got with my PS2 on launch. Played though it a couple of times and actually liked it quite a bit.
Love this sneak preview of "Playing EVERY PS2 launch game". If we've got this level of quality already, I can only imagine how great of a sports time we'll have!
I remember this game. Very early in the PS2 life I got this. Didn't think it was too bad, definitely better than the Headhunter port
@@tylarjackson7928 precisely my grief when I tried this game. Great ideas and potential but, ultimately drab gameplay and repetitive mission structure. It never felt like I was part of the team, but in charge of corralling some NPCs with the emotional urgency of combat as a broken faucet.

Wdym? Cross squad and ZigZag squad make way more sense to me.
It's actually a mathematical symbol. It's pronounced, "Multiplied by Squad"
Usually in Japanese the X character (exsu/batsu) means wrong/incorrect, so could even be interpreted as "wrong squad"- probably why they specifically called it cross squad there
"The guardian of the waste disposal" classic
Gotta say, I'm loving that Old Skool Drum N Bass soundtrack.

This must be the first time ever in all my years of gaming that I see a terrible game that actually has decent voice acting?

Peter “ Ash can crouch, roll”.
Ben “He can also just be an absolute lunatic”.
Soon as Ben went through that first door,a Subway commercial came on and I thought it was a cut scene lol
I mean the tutorial had to explain a completely new (not really though) controller. So i understand their thinking process behind the in your faceness of it a bit.
Not saying it was good thinking.
This was a wonderful video. Seeing Ben suffer is, fantastic. Brings back memories of the Hulk Hogan Kinect game.
This and Tekken Tag Tournament were my first PS2 games. I honestly thought this was pretty good. Probably my nostalgia talking though
at that moment the generational jump was pretty big, even crap games would blow our mind, im totally with you my cousin have this game and we have a blast like in 2002 but now... its not that good haha
TTT is still an excellent game. This game, which I've never seen before, definitely doesn't hold up.
@Dr Katz OMG Dr. Katz I need an appoinment

This is why Blood Dragon made fun of tutorials.
Inverted is technically normal due to how head movement works
Man I remember that Christmas, such a good time playing this game for months.
I remember this game from the early ps2 era, when my older bro got the system with this game and Ratchet and Clank. Nostalgia hit right there
Woop woop new “not the worst games ever…. but worst than most!”
This was my first game on the ps2. I remember thinking the graphics were incredible, and the guns were so cool.
That "We'll see you very soon." was menacing.
Honestly the story beats sound like the plot of a mgs game
I don't think I've ever seen Ben not enjoy a game this much and that's saying something
Anybody who doesn't enjoy this game is insane. It's really good.
Exsquad a game where you have to navigate awkward encounters with ex girlfriends or boyfriends...
A Survival Horror/Stealth game where you have to avoid your ex in the supermarket.
Hang on! I remember (sort of) enjoying this game. It came free with my PS2.
That explains how it ended up being the first game I got when my mom got me a PS2
Four minutes in and this is already giving me painful flashbacks to Fuse.
Right down to the redhead with the same haircut.
So the leader of a military squad in this sci-fi action game is named John Connors, huh? Sounds familiar...
One of the best PS2 games ever, people rating this prob stuck on their PS5 24 7
I bought this game along with my PS2. Loved it in all its cheesiness. Good times
The line "Who decorated this place, Genghis Khan?" Has lives in my head for like 20 years.
And here I was thinking that this was going to be some kind of X-Men spin-off!
I'm so glad it's not.
Gotta say this game is the whole 'dawn of the millenium' package: Drum n Bass OST hype (which I personally enjoy), Futuristic dystopian and techy world with some Matrix elements, and some 'rad' character designs (lol).
I had this game and loved it, it was ahead of its time...
Those running animations are just PRICELESS!
Please never stop making these.
How dare anyone betray X Squad! I'm so angry
Did not think people hats this game always seen it as an understated gem and loved the out of it
kylevilhelm holds the speedrunning record with a time of 1h 30m 19s

I'm in awe by how the comments are not adressing this... I might start introducing myself as 'Guardian of the Recreational Area'
On the screen where they prepare for the mission why are all of the menu options in the same style as the weakest link bubbles
The description of the characters is absolutely killing me. I can’t breathe!
One of the characters looks like Ben if he was mixed with a silver fox and guile from streetfighter lol Thanks for the great content as usual
“MAIA!!”…”ive sneaked in!!!”
Guard Guardians, you say?
Who is going to Guard the Guard Guardians?
The overhigh guard guard guardians of excessive redundancy.
I remember renting this game from Blockbuster. For some reason i remember one of the levels was in a parking garage
X Squad was a great game
This dude just said that the LotR Two Towers game is better than Return of the King, I'm still staring in disbelief as I'm typing this, I may need to call in sick at work tomorrow
24:40 "Open the pod bay doors Judd."
Is Andrew Chicken related to Mr Chicken, original resident of 10 Downing Street?
Of course there are different chickens there now...
Here we go launch game time! I've played a launch game before but I'm going to give it everything I've got.
why is this game worse i love x-squad when it came out and i still play it to this day
This used to be my brother and I’s favorite game lol
To be honest Cross-Squad doesn’t sounds as badass as X-Squad
It's also obviously not the name. 😂
I remember this game, not playing it. But seeing it reviewed in a game magazine as trash.
It does look like a cool game but my only concern is that It would've been interesting and fun to have a character selection screen to play as other characters
Well you ended up commanding the other 3 quite a lot, which was really cool.
Maybe it’s like the suicide squad (or task force X) where the X is actually the Roman numeral 10. So this is actually 10 squad.
Yalls editor is amazing 😂
This was not a terrible game. Seriously? As a launch game from 2000 this was a seriously good shooter. Story not so but the game play was pretty dope
Agreed, it was a long time before a better third person shooter came to the system
I still have this game on my PS2 it’s awesome.
Looked at the 29 PS2 release games and there was no way this could be in the top 5. Not even the top 10. I remember half the release games.
For me it was #1 I must've completed it on NG+ about 30 times. Ending up with the best gun with Max ammo for all 4 squad members.
I too like to search offices for coffees
One thing I hate whenever I’ve seen this game in charity shops is it’s like the one PS2 game (in pal) that’s spine isn’t pure white and has something at the bottom
The EA logo at the bottom you mean?
@@aydenbeta1380 nah not that it’s like this black line that carries on from the bottom of the cover
Should check out Martian Gothic for a great example on “seamless character switching”

I don't know, years of Kingdom Hearts have taught that it's probably χ-blade (pronounced "key", though some may pronounce it as "chi"). ;P
First PS2 game I ever played.
21:36 Wait a minute... Okay, I think I may officially watch too much pro-wrestling, but was that the very tail end of "Being The Elite"s current intro???
Lieutenant Roger, guardian of the waste disposal hahahah I'm dead
Genuinely thought Ash was Jedward in the thumbnail
Always good to hear Nathan Ackerman mentioned again.
""there are prisoners in some holding cells"
yes game where else would you put prisoners?
In the waste disposal?
Are you playing a PS2 game with a xbox pad?
Is it emulated?
"I have to interrupt you, We've got a nazi"
Oooh, weirdest games ever? I'm in.
I was that guy who got this game for Christmas 2000!
Nice videos keep up the good work
This game needs a remastered cult classic.
Oh how I adore thee Ben Potter!!! And you TP :)
I love that How i Met Your Mother reference.
IYKYK
I owned this. I had forgotten about it until today. Thanks lads.
WOW 2037 isn't that far away all of a sudden
I think the game's wiki pages are much worse then the game itself...
The game wasn't great but I remember far worse TPS games
It looks fluid and competent in gameplay due to it being EA I guess. Even in an earlier era.
I like obscure games, it don't look that good, but I've seen worse. So if its cheap enough, I'd probably get it anyways, lol
Ash/John G. Connors looks like Mr Jay from America’s Next Top Model.
Here we go
another stellar episode! Thanks!
@3:44 LOL. A 6 ft 8 character who is barely a head taller than his 5ft6 female teammates. 😂

"Interlopers, you die now!"
Remember this, wasnt halfbad for a release game.. you just suck at playing it… (as usual lol)
This video gets: our sincere thanks.
I love you guys
Who guards the guard station guardians?
Games tried and had variety back then ❤❤❤❤
I thought it was Rerez
Poor Ben. He does get some of the worst worst games ever... ever.
LMAO you playing the game looked so hopeless LMAO
