I absolutely loved the show as a kid. It was far from perfect but I was obsessed with the books so seeing those characters on TV was fantastic. The acting/writing is surprisingly good for a kid's show, the effects are just dated and lacking.
The book series got surprisingly mature as it went on and I definitely wouldn't mind it getting a reboot at some point! Always wanted to play this back in the day but I owned a N64 and not a PS1 back in the day.
There was talk of Paramount rebooting it as a film franchise around the last Transformers movie but Power Rangers is all I've heard about and that sounds atrocious so they're probably purposefully keeping things secret because it's a shit show
I remember that there was another series called Megamorphs, and it was a lot darker than the first series. Like one of them died. Kinda reminded me of the Hardy Boys Case Files, which were similarly dark and I quit reading when Chet died.

They're not actually any darker than the main series, because it's just about impossible to be darker than the way the main series ends!

That said every peice of media produced from those books that wasn't the books themselves was almost total crap as far as I've seen. edit: and 29:37 when i was a kid i definitely wanted to see marco and jake merge (kiss and maybe hold hands)

The lore is any animal they've touched they can turn into, like they absorb DNA from that animal to enable them to morph. So technically they can morph into any animal they want. But...that's probably not how this game was developed. Dude, a, like, open world non-linear Animorphs game where you can change into any animal would be fun as fuck
All I remember about the animorphs books is creepy cover art and brain slug zombies, some kids stay transformed too long or something and get stuck *edit* nobody corrected me but I fixed the spelling of animorphs because alchohol isn't an excuse.
I think it’s you can only stay as an animal for an hour? Any more than that and you get stuck as that animal and theoretically can’t change back, this happened to to Tobias who spends a while in the series as a hawk but he meets space god who let’s him change back to human for two hours

You were not far off. Both Animorphs and Beast Wars toys were created by Kenner (part of Hasbro) and some figures that weren't made in the Animorphs toyline got a slight remold in the Beast Wars toyline.
Marco should have been a gorilla, that was his main morph. If I remember correctly, they all turned into rhino's in the 16th book. They all use wolf morphs in many of the books but Cassie's most well known unique morph is a horse so that wouldn't work since it isn't a predatory animal

I've gotta be honest, as terrible as this game seemingly is, I have incredibly fond memories of the Animorphs series of books. When I was in Elementary (Primary, if we want to get UK about this) School, my friend Austin and I would compete to see who could read the books the fastest. Nobody won, because we started doing it when the first book came out, so it'd be like "I finished the book last night!" "Well I finished after school yesterday!" "Okay... so we wait for the next one to be released then, I guess?" Lol
The books are genuinely awesome! There are some bad ones in there, but the series as a whole is way better than everyone who hasn't read them assumes they are. Unfortunately, all of the ancillary media (games, TV show, etc.) have been pretty awful.

Bleh; that Animorphs subreddit might be a bit more active than you'd suspect, though. They've been releasing the books as a series of graphic novels, updated for current times. Hopefully if any good comes out of this other than being able to laugh at a crappy game, maybe somebody will check those out.

That green monster you keep fighting is called a Hork Bajir. They are a peaceful race enslaved by main enemy of the game (the Yeerks...the little brain slug things). Any creature with ears can be enslaved by a Yeerk. That blue guy it zoomed in on the kill screen is the host body of one of the leader Yeerks and is the main antagonist of the books. I loved the books and have read all of them. It's just so unfortunate that the TV show and games are complete horseshit. The books have a lot to draw from, but people just went low effort in other media attempts.
Man I'm AMAZED Animorphs didn't become the American Harry Potter. It was a long form of storytelling with deep characters who grew a lot. I remember that Potter and Animorphs both had a surprising amount of grit in their last books especially. Where's my Animorphs movie franchise? :(
I think Animorphs is pretty much unfilmable, too many thing about would be almost impossible to transfer to the screen, not to mention the absolute insane level of disturbing and violent moments.
Dunno about over in the En-guh-LAND, but in America: the books were a huge thing, and the show wasn't nearly as big of a deal. It wasn't quite to the same level as something like "Goosebumps," but it wasn't terribly far off. I think they were ultimately more of a fad than anything else as the book series took a nosedive in quality, and the adaptations/spin-offs were...frankly, mostly like this game.
I remember being monumentally disappointed with this game, as I was a huge fan of both the books and the show as a kid. Animorphs, as a concept, should be so easy to design a cool game around. Make a point-and-click adventure where you have to use various animal forms to solve puzzles. Do a Metroidvania where you have to find and absorb different animals to get past certain obstacles. Or, if you’re going to go the cheap route and do the bare minimum with a bog-standard 2D platformer, at the very least let the Animorphs… morph, outside of a few blink-and-you-miss-them enemies and mini games. I’m sure it’s more the publisher’s fault than the developer’s, but wow, what a letdown and missed opportunity.
Actually, what happened was that SingleTrac made a different Animorph game, but the tragedy of Columbine occurred, which led the game to shift its gameplay… Now I’m more curious on what the original concept of the game even was.
Idk, I feel like a lot of the appeal of this series is that they play really bad games that no one has ever heard of. It takes away a lot of the chame of the show, imo, if they just play really good games that everyone likes.
They were great! Written by a wife and husband team (with a bunch of ghost written books in the middle) where she brought the animal stuff and he brought the sci-fi stuff. It's a kids' book series but as they go on it explores how they have to handle the horrors of war and making really tough decisions like how to handle a traitor, just how many lives are worth sacrificing for your cause and when it comes down to it, are you willing to give up what initially got you into the fight in order to get that assured victory. ...and then dealing with all the consquences of the decisions you've made.

Now I’m more curious on what the original concept of the game even was.
there's a pc animorphs game thats completely different, with puzzles, and you can select what animal to morph into.

I like to played this one when I was kid without reading the critics said, idk it was one of the worst psx one but I had a great time played this one

Idk, I feel like a lot of the appeal of this series is that they play really bad games that no one has ever heard of. It takes away a lot of the chame of the show, imo, if they just play really good games that everyone likes.

I've always seen the book, but I always thought tbey looked dumb as hell and never read them,
They were great! Written by a wife and husband team (with a bunch of ghost written books in the middle) where she brought the animal stuff and he brought the sci-fi stuff. It's a kids' book series but as they go on it explores how they have to handle the horrors of war and making really tough decisions like how to handle a traitor, just how many lives are worth sacrificing for your cause and when it comes down to it, are you willing to give up what initially got you into the fight in order to get that assured victory.
...and then dealing with all the consquences of the decisions you've made.
Still better than Cyberpunk.
