- It's Animorphin time! This janky mix of different gameplay styles could be a truly faithful homage to the cursed transformations of Animorphs. Or it might just be a sewer rat in sheep's clothing.

I don’t really remember there being a show. I did like the books as a kid though, especially the little flip-book style ani-morph you see by the page numbers and flip through the book
Books are classic TV show was crap not the worst but only probably able to get through maybe 2 episodes
I absolutely loved the show as a kid. It was far from perfect but I was obsessed with the books so seeing those characters on TV was fantastic. The acting/writing is surprisingly good for a kid's show, the effects are just dated and lacking.
Watching the show was the first time I saw Shawn Ashmore before he was on x-men
With the improvement of visual effects over the past several years, it might be time for Animorphs to make its way to the big or small screen.
It would be more horrifying than the cat musical if they followed the books closely enough
i'd love it!
No
The original books are being re-released as graphic novels at the moment
OOOOOH yes
The book series got surprisingly mature as it went on and I definitely wouldn't mind it getting a reboot at some point! Always wanted to play this back in the day but I owned a N64 and not a PS1 back in the day.
There was talk of Paramount rebooting it as a film franchise around the last Transformers movie but Power Rangers is all I've heard about and that sounds atrocious so they're probably purposefully keeping things secret because it's a shit show
@@calumsanderson6741 I heard talks of doing a comic book version at one point but idk much else or if that was just rumors.
@@edman4327 They've done that. They're in graphic novel format. My nephew has been reading them.
I remember that there was another series called Megamorphs, and it was a lot darker than the first series. Like one of them died. Kinda reminded me of the Hardy Boys Case Files, which were similarly dark and I quit reading when Chet died.
@@revwroth3698Ah, Megamorphs isn't actually its own series--they're just a couple supplemental books to the main series, and they're a bit longer and have the characters trade off narration rather than have one narrator per book. They're not actually any darker than the main series, because it's just about impossible to be darker than the way the main series ends!
The Walkin impersonating throughout the beginning has been hillarious
I found it hilarious watching a grown man struggle to play a game that i beat when i was 8. I had fond memories of it and when I played it later on i found it to be pretty bad especially the ending. Thanks for revisiting my childhood even if it hurts to watch you play it.
16:08 "you've found an actual worthy adversary" which took a whole nine seconds to defeat
I heard that “what we do in the shadows” reference at 23:40 Ben! Nice. BAT! 🦇
A Video tape of this show got stuck in my grandparents TV! I used to rewatch it all the time
Because it was stuck in the tv lol?
I was surprised when Peter said he'd never heard of Daily Radar. Then I saw the year it shut down. Holy shit.
Oh yeah, here we go, worst games time! I love to see a new installment of 'Shit Games for Wankers'
still wish they would've actually called it that!
I never read the books before despite the interesting concept, but I will surely be entertained by this terrible game.
Good luck, Benimorph!
I've paused it so you might say this later but Ben goes "I want to know which one they turn into". The lore is any animal they've touched they can turn into, like they absorb DNA from that animal to enable them to morph. So technically they can morph into any animal they want. But...that's probably not how this game was developed.
Dude, a, like, open world non-linear Animorphs game where you can change into any animal would be fun as fuck
Super Mario Odyssey? You could always pretend it's animorphs? :P
This bro. They can morph aliens too which none of the games take advantage of.
"Imagine if they made this game and really polished it" yes Peter it's called echo the dolphin
Best part of this game hands-down was the swamp segment playing as the dragonfly. That song was awesome- i'd play it over and over.
Same
game seems fine. It certainly isn't good, but I can't believe they reviewed it a 0%. I don't see anything wrong really beside some clunky controls. Could have been fun back in the day
All I remember about the animorphs books is creepy cover art and brain slug zombies, some kids stay transformed too long or something and get stuck
*edit* nobody corrected me but I fixed the spelling of animorphs because alchohol isn't an excuse.
Oh, I remember that!
I was like, "Fuk That, I need to be Hooman!)
I think it’s you can only stay as an animal for an hour? Any more than that and you get stuck as that animal and theoretically can’t change back, this happened to to Tobias who spends a while in the series as a hawk but he meets space god who let’s him change back to human for two hours
that intro genuinely made me confused and concerned about my head lol nice one 🤣
Fucking loved the books, I collected them all as a 12 year old and still they hold a place in my heart.
That said every peice of media produced from those books that wasn't the books themselves was almost total crap as far as I've seen.
edit: and 29:37 when i was a kid i definitely wanted to see marco and jake merge (kiss and maybe hold hands)
yeah was just thinking that I don't understand why that was. the toys were shit. the games were shit. the show...wasn't shit but it also wasn't the books. it's almost like Applegate needed to be involved or something
@@calumsanderson6741 yeah almost like she was a good author and the other spinoffs and products were pure cash grabs that didnt have the backing of actual quality haha. not that the books are perfect mind you
I read the books too, did you read the lore-heavy backstory, Andalite Chronicles? the backstory of the guy that gave the main characters their powers? Gwah I think I read every book
I was a fan of the books when I was little and funnily enough I saw this game at a local used games store the other day and almost bought it.
This is just straight up body horror, wow.
Literally the books make the body horror 100x worse. I have no mouth and must scream vibes
Ben and Peter, I must say that I have been watching you guys off and on for what seems like a year or longer now- going back to the days you were at… ehhh… I’ll call them “What Ever.” 😆 And of course the Vidiots channel. Anyway, I just felt inclined to say that this series of Worst Games and Ben’s old school name of “S#!+ games for wankers” is the best and I absolutely hope you two keep it going as long as you are able. Your chemistry together and your individual personalities is top tier in my opinion, and I hopped on the Facebook bandwagon so that James can actually get paid for his amazing contributions early into you guys asking us all to do it despite the fact I can’t stand Facebook just out of support for your collective efforts and entertainment. Anyway, I just wanted to say that you two especially are amazing at what you do, and I could never get enough of your Worst Games series. Cheers Triple Jump.
The Christopher Walken impressions got me.
Marco should have been a gorilla, that was his main morph. If I remember correctly, they all turned into rhino's in the 16th book. They all use wolf morphs in many of the books but Cassie's most well known unique morph is a horse so that wouldn't work since it isn't a predatory animal
Cassie's battle morph was a wolf, which is still kinda shite tbh.
One of these days, the movements of some of these characters will be intersperst with Ben & Peter recreating them outside the studio
haha the books came first and were so much better than the tv show. each scholastic book fair, they released a new Animorph chapter book.
You were not far off. Both Animorphs and Beast Wars toys were created by Kenner (part of Hasbro) and some figures that weren't made in the Animorphs toyline got a slight remold in the Beast Wars toyline.
Amazing video!
You're at the Gardens, which is like a zoo/park kind of place and Cassie's mom works there
I'm sure the bear fighting noise is the same noise from the Star Wars episode one game where you fight Jabba's champion
Rancor*
@@rhynelinker7922 what did you call me?
I was going to say that you're showing your age by mentioning KwikSave but I've just found out that it's still in business?!?
I thought that it was long gone like Netto...
Who knew that watching a vid on animorphs would get me stuck in a rabbit hole of researching old-school UK supermarkets 😅
I seen this on a demo disc back in middle school I never actually knew that the game was released in that state
The Brian Butterfield bit is spot on. 7:36
I remember the books. Never saw the show but did see commercials for it. Loved the books.
10:21 "Heeeeerrree's Bear-Chel"!
Funny enough the very first episode of animorphs has the main character playing beast wars
I suspect this will also be sh*tposted to the various Beast Wars sections of the various TF fan sites too...
23:30 i appreciate the WWDitS reference
Animorphs? That's a series of books right? I really want to read it too
Wait... Ben and Peter are ACTUALLY different people? I thought that was a joke and they were the same dude.
WHAT???? 😂😂😂😂
It's weird, but the song playing on the Dragonfly level sounds a lot like a band from the Futurepop genre, I'm thinking Colony 5 Code 64 or Apoptgyma Berzerk. Wouldn't be surprised if it is a real song.
It's animorphin time!
15:45 - I also miss Kwik-Save.
What an appropriate name for that game i think "shattered reality" pretty much sums it up
4:27 90s teenage Ben
Insofar as worst games ever goes this one seems really mild
I haven't played this game since 2007, but I remember that intro like I played it yesterday. I almost beat this game, but the Gardens stage was too difficult for ten year old me
Oh man, this game is utter trash, I feel sorry for the game's victim
They've never heard of Daily Radar? That's a surprise. They were the subject of some early Penny Arcades.
I think Daily Radar's rating got counted as a zero because of their Direct Hit/Hit/Miss/Dud rating system.
"A basic Bisch platformer?" ARE Y'ALL BELINDA HEADS
Wait, you guys had book faires (fares? faeres? who knows) in the UK? I wonder how much classic grade school overlap there is in terms of weird nostalgia like this between the US and UK
I think they should put a different Ben look a like on the selection screen in each episode
loved the books as a kid. Never knew there was a show
The "u" on the duck though.
This fcking game...books and tv series included, were a crime against humanity.
God, I loved the books when I was a kid. Only ever knew of the GBA Pokemon-style gMe though. Never knew this one existed.
Kinda wish I still didn't now.
24:08 what is that name of the music form
26:15 Paws hit with their wolves?😮
Animorphs books are awesome lol I'm a 23 Year old man now but my bucket list is to collect the series
The awkward animal controls are giving me GTA5-after-eating-the-peyote vibes… 🤷🏼♀️
11:57 Has fangs; is dried blood.
Epic establishing shot for a future ‘Billy-goes-bad’ subplot should y’all circle the wagon back to puppetmastering. Generally open to writing gigs. Hashtag monkey business. 🙊🤦🏻♂️🖖
now i’m an animorph
Good gracious this is terrible. Hilarious stuff guys.
Was just about to go to bed, then this pops up.... Fuck going to bed😐
Ive completed this game today and I must say it's not that bad, sometimes it's little bit tricky and may be unfair, but if you get used to the physics it's doable, you can't just try the same aproach again and again, it will punish you, you have to adapt to the game a little bit.. I must confess that I've randomly downloaded this as a kid from some rom site and it kinda grew on me with the atmosphere, this is something i really like in video games, and this game has pretty good atmosphere.. Im from europe and we didn't get this game here.. to be honest, I like this type of games rather than some classics on ps1 like resident evil or silent hill, because it seems to be so difficult or maybe im not that patient, this is pretty straight forward even though it may be, as i said, kinda unfair at times..
Here we go, bear time!
Rachel?
um, akshually (pushes glasses up) there were two Beast Wars games on the PS1, you guys completely forgot about Beast Wars: Transmetals, which was a 1 on 1 fighting game also released on the N64 and very crappy.
The best series on RUclips!
That game has some nice features, it's too bad that they didn't nail down the controls.
Christopher Walken!! 😂🤣😭
I actually have this game still. My grandma got me the game after she got me some of the books from the second hand store and I liked them. I don't think I played it much. I can't play it now because my PS1 is on the fritz. I need a new one.
Wish I read the books as a kid, The Show and book covers looked really lame but doing research later it sounds brutal and something kids shouldn't have been reading which is pretty cool.
The books have always been more popular than the show
Why is it Catshton Catchews and not Catshton Meowthews?
Am I the ONLY Animorphs fan here that thinks the noble Hork-Bajir deserve better than mantis guy lol.
I had a number of the books while in school, starting when the series came out (until every place around us suddenly stopped carrying them)
Because of my love of the series and RPGs, I played the GBC game...
Play that next. You won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't... :;D
I dont understand the environment. The morphing parts seem irrelevent.
Being a fan of the books and somewhat of the TV show if I were the buy this game as a child today and cut this game on and see how it is I would be highly pissed ..... I would have honestly thought that my Parents must have hated me.
definitely need to try the gbc game it was a pokemon knock off
That game is ridiculously hard lol
There was a PC game too
I've gotta be honest, as terrible as this game seemingly is, I have incredibly fond memories of the Animorphs series of books. When I was in Elementary (Primary, if we want to get UK about this) School, my friend Austin and I would compete to see who could read the books the fastest. Nobody won, because we started doing it when the first book came out, so it'd be like "I finished the book last night!" "Well I finished after school yesterday!" "Okay... so we wait for the next one to be released then, I guess?" Lol
The books are genuinely awesome! There are some bad ones in there, but the series as a whole is way better than everyone who hasn't read them assumes they are. Unfortunately, all of the ancillary media (games, TV show, etc.) have been pretty awful.
i liked the show as a kid..........never knew there was a ps1 game.
Please play ultimate band on the wii
We need Ben to show his tatts off I'm really keen to learn about them
This game looks just fine. This might be the best game on this show so far
It looks terrible, what game are you looking at?
@@narcopsy there are far worse games
@@carolfromhr9900 you are truthful. tho im the person that loves bubsy 3D 😂
@@carolfromhr9900 well yes you're right there are worse games. But the controls and hit detection don't seem good, at all here
You failed to make a Dolphin Lundgren pun. Shame on you both.
Oof; I knew it wasn't gonna be great being on this show, but considering how much I loved the books as a kid this one was especially rough to watch. To be honest, almost nothing Animorphs related outside the books was good(The Game Boy game was basically Pokemon?...), but even ignoring the obvious, "They never ran around moving platforms or collecting Ani-coins" stuff they used to make this a video game, there's just so much stuff as a fan of the book series that they did wrong... Bleh; that Animorphs subreddit might be a bit more active than you'd suspect, though. They've been releasing the books as a series of graphic novels, updated for current times. Hopefully if any good comes out of this other than being able to laugh at a crappy game, maybe somebody will check those out.
Am I crazy but why do I think this game looks fun still
That green monster you keep fighting is called a Hork Bajir. They are a peaceful race enslaved by main enemy of the game (the Yeerks...the little brain slug things). Any creature with ears can be enslaved by a Yeerk. That blue guy it zoomed in on the kill screen is the host body of one of the leader Yeerks and is the main antagonist of the books.
I loved the books and have read all of them. It's just so unfortunate that the TV show and games are complete horseshit. The books have a lot to draw from, but people just went low effort in other media attempts.
The Animorphs game for Gameboy Colour actually wasn’t too bad. It was a Pokemon-esque rpg
Is it me or does Jake look a tad but like Peter?
Beast Wars is a bad game that I like. It's definitely not good but somehow I enjoy it.
a yakualt lol
Cold open gang
Dunno about over in the En-guh-LAND, but in America: the books were a huge thing, and the show wasn't nearly as big of a deal. It wasn't quite to the same level as something like "Goosebumps," but it wasn't terribly far off.
I think they were ultimately more of a fad than anything else as the book series took a nosedive in quality, and the adaptations/spin-offs were...frankly, mostly like this game.
This IP has been released in it’s entirety online so you can read them for free.(the author did it) I would love to see a new show with today’s production value and follow the books in ways that the show obviously had financial limitations.
Where?
👽
I like to played this one when I was kid without reading the critics said, idk it was one of the worst psx one but I had a great time played this one
Still better than Cyberpunk.
I've always seen the book, but I always thought tbey looked dumb as hell and never read them,
They were great! Written by a wife and husband team (with a bunch of ghost written books in the middle) where she brought the animal stuff and he brought the sci-fi stuff. It's a kids' book series but as they go on it explores how they have to handle the horrors of war and making really tough decisions like how to handle a traitor, just how many lives are worth sacrificing for your cause and when it comes down to it, are you willing to give up what initially got you into the fight in order to get that assured victory.
...and then dealing with all the consquences of the decisions you've made.
0%!!!
I got beat up as a kid because this game sucked so much... Lol. True story
