I know this is nothing compared to most Etsy sellers but I just had my first two orders from people I didn't (in real life or from my blog)! It was very exciting!! Thank you for simplifying Etsy's goals going forward - it all sounds fairly positive 🧡
I have had a super busy year on Etsy this year. Like legit busy. I sell my handmade knits. Like you said several sales have been my big ticket items, shawls in my case. $200 plus items.
This is so heartwarming to hear! I'm afraid to get my hopes up with Etsy, but I can't help myself. Fingers crossed the year continues in this vein. 🤞🤞🤞
Nooooo! In a weird way I'm relieved to hear this because it means they weren't just advertising it for the superbowl. They really want it to be a thing... OK well they have my attention. 😄
Good luck restocking, Kim! Hope it continues. I've noticed my more expensive items are selling more than cheaper ones but it could just be coincidence, better photos, seo etc (?) or the boosted score/visibility aspect that a sale brings. Like you said, if we keep testing & paying attention, the more data we'll have. Your story about the instagram showstopper project inspired me to push the boat out & make a couple higher ticket items. Hope this is a turning of the tide for handmade sellers who were/are struggling 🖤💜🖤
@@KimBliss I know, this is the first positive news I’ve heard in a LONG time! Now I have to read about this ‘gift’ thingy….by the way, you are so fun to watch. Keep being you!
Ooooo, now you have me thinking. In autumn 2018 the views/visits and sales of my original art fell off a cliff and never recovered. Maybe now is a good time to put some back online. Some little framed pieces ready to gift, maybe? Hmmmmm! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks Kim 😁
@@hannahmitchell87 Thanks for the suggestions and the luck, Hannah 😀 I tried digital products using my art a few years ago and could not get any traction at all. I'm already selling greetings cards and gift labels but they are not flying off the shelves either. I think both are quite saturated markets though - and with social media being of minimal use now, my stuff just doesn't get seen. They joys of online selling 😆
Thank you very much for the vídeo with you i learn english and at the same time i learn how to run my new shop in Etsy!!! You are a gift 💖. At this moment i have no sales in my shop but with the experiences that you share with us i feel hopefull. Mil gracias 🤗💖💖
Tried using Etsy's gift mode and it just seemed really gimicky and a big bit of a hot mess. 'Astrology & Space'? Someone needs to have a word. Really generic product results from it, more mass market stuff, more trademark infringe stuff etc. Wish they would just sort out text based search rather than jumping on their next shiny new thing which ultimately ends up where the other shiny things did. :o)
My shop is doing pretty well at the start of this year. Feels like something has changed. I used to have gift sets but removed them because they didn’t really sell. But I’m going to try an experiment and reintroduce some gifting sets to see how they do!
Thanks for the video. I don't think the 2019 and 2023 data are about the same thing. The former seems to be a breakdown of gift buying motivation (holiday, personal, just because), while the latter reflects the overall perception of the marketplace (supplies, casual shopping, gift buying, etc.)
Fair observation, but it still seems contradicts the other survey that suggests people don't think of Etsy for gifting. It makes the decision to use a dated survey to break down gifting motivations all the more pointless.
Etsy haven't said we need to use any specific tags to my knowledge, although they have suggested creating a separate shop category for gifts. I don't have one, though, and have no plans to add one, to be honest!
If they go from 10% to 15% for gift givers, it will be meh. If they go from 10% to 30%, then that will be a success. It will be interesting to see the numbers in say, July, after the spring and Mother's and Father's Day. Etsy's excitement about their gift giving initiative will evident in subsequent quarterly reports. If we never hear about it again, then it must have been a failure.
I feel like Etsy have added that 2019 report just to bolster their return to the gifting strategy. The information from 2023 contradicts what they said, but they did put the date in tiny print which all seems a little bit underhand to me. I don't think it is beneath Etsy to take outdated information and use it to reenforce their message. If you read enough small print on figures like these with other companies you often find the information to be less than what on the face it, it appears to be. It's like shampoo ads where they say that 98% of all women agreed this product was better. And then you see they only tested it with 38 women.
No, none. I'm a small business and don't have a budget for advertising so I focus on driving my own traffic/sales to my website, and Etsy's organic traffic/sales. 😊
Sure hope they do throw the handmade sellers a bone 🦴everyone sure deserves it.👍 Also Sounds like they also have been cracking down on suspect copyright infringement items too.👏 A new year a different Etsy? Time will tell, but it remains a very over saturated market for a lot of stuff. All right 😁 back to work. 🖌 Cheers !!!

This is everything and a really positive sign for your shop, congratulations! Enjoy this win, you've earned it. 👏 💪

Encouraging to hear for us handmade sellers thank you ! 🥰
Etsy have certainly been saying the right things lately, it's a refreshing change. 😄
OMG, you just started to mention about gifting on Etsy and immediately up popped an ad “Etsy use gift mode now”!

I really hope so Hannah. I guess only time will tell, but this last month's sales and Etsy's report certainly got my attention! 😄
I'm finding the same thing, this is good news for us ❤
The last 6 months have been amazing…both for handmade and vintage. Hoping for a positive upturn!
When I tell you, the lift I feel every time I read a comment like this! 😊 Could it really be? A turn for the better on Etsy??? 🤞🤞🤞

Maybe offer digital / print at home options too or high end gift cards? Don't know if that fits your style or not... just suggestions. Good luck!X
You're welcome, certainly worth a go if Etsy is serious about this renewed direction.

Think I am getting into you and this stuff you do.
Thank you! I love the cups, but shipping for me would be a nightmare.
Thank you! With print on demand, the items are made in the country the customer is in to negate long and pricey waits on shipping. 😊
@@KimBliss Awesome! I will keep watch for when they are back in stock.
Should we be tagging gift mode or anything like that?

no sales on etsy but i am doing good on facebook marketplace, no packing, no fees, not going to the post office anymore

Hi Kim what is the link to your Etsy shop?
My shop name is Beech Tree Handmade. I don't link to it though. Folks are more than welcome to find me, but I only link to my website. 😊
@@KimBliss it must not be a US Etsy shop because I can’t find it
It's not, I'm in the UK, but that shouldn't make a difference?
It comes up for me…make sure and don’t put spaces between the words. I’ve done that….
You don’t just see US Etsy shops when you search from the USA. You must be doing something wrong
if only 10% think of etsy for gifts where are the other 90% going for gifts? that's where I want to be! 😂
I’ve had no sales since my account was put on reserve last year…😅 was i blacklisted?
Ooof. I'm sorry to hear that. What do you sell?
Im pretty new. Do you use seo ads?
No, none. I'm a small business and don't have a budget for advertising so I focus on driving my own traffic/sales to my website, and Etsy's organic traffic/sales. 😊
@KimBliss I opted out, it went OK for a bit but Febs slow
