- Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is considered by many to be the greatest superhero film of all time, and his trilogy that stars Christian Bale as Batman is quite well regarded on the whole.
In the current age of cinematic universes, many fans may wonder why Bale didn’t make a fourth film and even more, and he spoke about his reasons in a recent interview.
Ultimately, the whole series was Christopher Nolan’s vision, and even though Warner Brothers would have gladly gone on without him, Bale wasn’t game. Let’s take a look at why Christian Bale didn’t want a fourth Dark Knight film.

The ending of Dark. Knight rises was so satisfying. I couldn't imagine a 4th in the series. One of the best trilogies ever made.
I think a Christopher Nolan directed Nightwing with Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have been awesome
@@apophis9192 that's the only thing I'm disappointed about
It was a iconic end
Another thing that is challenging for another Nolan film would be adapting a worthy villain from Batman rogues gallery that would fit the dark and realistic tone of the series.
Joshua R Yeah, I was expecting that. Even if just a one off.
Cause he’s the hero Gotham deserves but not the one it needs.
Yes but actually no without him there is no Gotham. Did you forget about the nuke?
ainz ooal gown that’s not the point he’s a vigilante and didn’t want the world to remember Harvey dent as a villain cause Harvey was a hero he was Gotham’s white knight Batman took the blame cause he didn’t want to ruin Harvey’s legacy as a hero. Yep. It wasnt the best out of the three but it serves as a great conclusion for the saga. Fulfilling the wish of Alfred for Bruce finding the love of his life and leaving the cap crusader action behind
Nolan would still make a good movie, but yea. It would be hard and weird..

It ended perfectly. Bruce found love and peace. He can finally relax and he is not alone. I loved it as it was fantastic to see Bruce relaxed, free of the immense weight on his shoulders of being the dark knight. That heavy burden/weight is now the responsibility of Robin to carry on.

Borat Sagdiyev lol...Robin not Robin Hood. Got a smile on that one lol....

Jeremy Lewellen I believe there’s quotes of bale saying he wouldn’t do a movie with Robin.
I would say better to end on a high note rather then continue until quality decreases.
@@jeremylewellen That may be true but it'd be interesting to see in the Nolanverse.
Ever notice how during the closing scene of TDKR, JGL's wearing all black except for his undershirt which, when wet, turns blue and faintly resembles Nightwing's attire.
Ledger’s Joker is the greatest villain performance EVER!! It’s a shame he passed and we didn’t get more.
That's the same way I thought. If Ledger doesn't die I'd bet the house they would've done another. The Jokers story wasn't finished. He was caught and locked away right. Left swinging upside down laughing like the maniac he was. We'll never know what could have been. RIP HEATH LEDGER

There a 5 second answer that took 4 mins to explain...
Ngl i would enjoy seeing a 4th darknight, just imagine The Dark Night returns
Chris Nolan Batman films are masterpieces. Would love him to do another. But if it's not to be. Thank you for this amazing trilogy.
I just rewatched these, the third was so much better than I remember, absolutely incredible. There could never be a 4th with the way it ended so well
the dark knight rises is absolutely amazing fight me
I feel that a 4th movie would ruin the character arch that Nolan set up for Bruce. He wanted a quiet life and he got one, making another film would ruin the magic of the ending of the trilogy.
Basically, he wanted to say, "either die a hero or live long enough to see yrself become a villain"
Wait so we're just gonna bypass how the trilogy ended with that cop dude entering the batcave at the end? They just left us on a cliffhanger

@@chengfusaechao7243 it’s was meant to be interpreted as an open ending. The “cop dude” was actually robin as stated earlier in the movie. We as fans can interpret that robin would have become Gotham’s next crusader, just like Batman was.
TLDW - Because Christian didn’t want to over stay his welcome, primarily because Nolan was leaving.
Its coz they dont worship money like some people in hollywood.
Tell it to Jar Jar abrams
About telling a message, which is why Lana Wachowski and David Mitchell are working on Matrix 4 - it's message is still relevant and wasn't entirely explored (hint: dialogues between the oracle and architect).
In matrix 3 the plot was such a mess that I dont think its a good idea to try to continue the story
@@freebee8221 Well, it's happening and it has to do with quantum theory and psychology, as well as our own cognitive dissonance toward our world. It's going to be interesting with the Author of Cloud Atlas writing a lot of the screenplay.
Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy is my definitive Batman version.
Everything else is just weak by comparison.
Because it ended. Simple.
Dark knight rises was a good ending. No need for more.
He made a mistake. The Dark Knight Rises came out in 2012 not 2011.
As much as I loved Keaton's Batman, as a kid; I'll say this: Christian Bale is Batman
Best trilogy of all time. Had action, drama, irony, heroes, the coolest villains, great acting, great story, great music, not even a second of boringness like most movies have, and sacrifice.
The trilogy had a perfect length, not so short as to rush the ending and leave the world and characters undeveloped but not so long as to leave the audience wanting more and pave the future for new batman films
I was upset that there wasn’t a 4th Batman, but at the same time I’m happy it didn’t happen because it was a great ending to the series.
Don’t want to see Christian Bale flip out on set.
Too late
That was a different movie, and the guy was fucking with the lights during a scene. Imagine making a youtube video and having someone come and start turning the screen off and on. Im sure that would take the concentration out of what you're doing.
defort45 he was also tired most of the time because he was filming 2 movies back to back that year
That's why he gets awards because he demands perfection
Christian Bale is one of the best actors out there. He is a method actor. Like a more efficient Daniel Day Lewis (Universe bless that legendary man) and it was probably the scene at the end with the fight versus the T-800 and screams "DO IT! YOU SON OF A BITCH!". So probably a very intense scene and then we had that guy going around in the background while they are filming that scene.
Not gonna lie, the new cast doesn’t sound appealing to me at all...
It's pattinson and serkis.... they're bound to do a good job
Jeffrey Wright is super good
It’s really not bad at all ... people said the same thing for batman begins
Mate, the directors not being Rian Johnson, Benioff/Weiss and JJ Abrams I am actually fine with any movie...
I know like Collin ferral as penguin???!!!
Bruce retired with Selina in Italy passing over his mantle to Blake (legal name: Robin). The fourth film would have been another Batman and Robin film. But we already have that experience. Don't we folks? They stopped and it was a right decision made.
Ledgers performance in The Dark Knight was extraordinary and maybe one of the best performances ever. But, with that being said, The Dark Knight Rises was the best movie of the trilogy. I don’t see how anyone could hate on that film. Bane was a great addition. Christopher Nolan does not make bad films.
Next video; Why there wasn't a second Titanic-movie.
TheMongolat this is a good comment
There is lol its called Titanic 2 look it up 😆
I wonder if he did end up making a 4th movie what would it be about ? Would Hush, Black Mask, or Deathstroke be the main villain? And it will also introduce nightwing to the series ?
I think Black Mask or The Riddler would be the most appropriate for 4th part. However, there are always 2 villains in every Nolan part of the trilogy.
Him and Michael Keaton in my opinion played the best Batman’s. Dark Knight being the best Batman film all of time
Simple answer. There never needed to be. Because a movie is successful doesn't mean it needs a sequel.
I am glad that there wasn't a 4th movie because I feel it ended perfectly. But there was definitely enough substance to produce a 4th movie, the ending when Blake (Joseph gordon levitt) gets the coordinates to the batcave and the spelunking gear, and his real name "Robin" is revealed. You could have him take over for batman as the silent protector, As Robin. And maybe bring in Mad Hatter as a villian , or even the riddler.
Wait a couple more years and bring him back in. I like the idea of a middle aged batman than a young batman .
I was thinking they made a flash point movie. Having old Christian Bale play batman would be epic. Also flashpoint changes the timeline therefore fixing the dc universe the justice league movie ruined
The Dark Knight trilogy is the only Batman movie that I know and will forever respect. All the future or past Batman movies cannot be compared to Bale's and Nolan's work together.
They were right to do so.
Just look at what kind of batman we got in the justice league 😒😑
We fall to rise.
We do not rise to fall.

LOOPER: Guys i know you all already know the answer but im just going to create a video and waste your time
Looper: takes 5 minutes to tell us 10 seconds of news...
Yet, here we are. Clicking while already know the answer
I would take another dark knight sequel than another Batman movie
After seeing franchises like terminator consistently fail to deliver with multiple sequels, no one should be asking why Bale stopped after TDKR. The dark knight trilogy had its time to shine, and it was incredible. Don’t ask for more, just be happy with what we got.
TXP9 True and I agree... but so much more stories could of been told. And villains, like we could got a 4th one with the Riddler. Or penguin, Poison ivy or Deathstroke. So many villains could of been introduced. Also the sequel could of been Robin as the main character and Bruce/Batman being a supporting character in the movie. I did like the ending of Rising however. I didn’t like how they made the guy set up to be the next Batman or Robin an yet we’re not going to get a sequel to see him as the cape crusader.
Even though I never really enjoyed this Batman trilogy, I still think it's one of the most creative stories made by Nolan
I still really want Joseph Gordon Levit Robin Batman movie.
"Nightwing Begins'
please, for the love of justice and peace, bring Mr. Bale back, the one true batman.
god those fatleck years were horrible.
The dark knight will return.
On the ending of TDKR, they showed Joseph Gordon-Levitt entering at the Batcave. Obviously, that scene made everyone including me, to believe that a sequel is possible. Blake would take up Batman's mantle as Robin or Nightwing.
Also Looper:
Why wasn't Batman in Avengers: Endgame!
Star Wars 4, 5, 6 trilogy envies Dark Knight trilogy.
It was a beautiful run and I greatly appreciated it. I cannot imagine how fulfilling it must have been to accomplish such a legacy.
The animated film: "Gotham Knight", is set in the same universe as the Dark Knight trilogy for anyone wanting more.
It features a real Deadshot and Killer Croc... which gives far more substance to Joseph Gordon Levitt's line in The Datk Knight Rises when he says: "He asked me if I'd seen any giant alligators".
Also, for fans of the animated series, this line also tips it's hat to The 90s Annitimated series episode: "Bane", in which Bane is looking for Batman but also knows that Batman is in the sewers looking for Killer Croc so to find Batman easier, he simply goes after Killer Croc himself.
So... the fact that: "Gotham Knight", confirms Killer Crocs existence in the Nolanverse, once again backed up by JGL's alligator quote, and the fact that in The Dark Knight Rises Bane's already set up in the sewers, could mean that Bane's already taken care of Croc himself in Nolanverse.
Thank you Bale and Nolan for giving back the respect that"Batman"deserves. I wish they could do the same thing on Predator.
Christian Bale, hands down, the BEST Batman ever
Christian Bale looks like he hasn't age a bit
because hes BATMAN
@@PrototypeFilms1 LOL true 🦇
This is what Hollywood needs to learn. They need to learn that not every movie or trilogy that makes a lot of money needs to continue, especially if they weren’t meant to continue. But Hollywood is too greedy to ever consider that, specifically Warner Bros. As much as I did want another movie when I saw Rises (I was 16), I’m glad we didn’t get it and I knew deep down that it was for the best. Because it was the perfect ending. Say what you want about the film itself, but the ending was as perfect as you could get to closing out a trilogy.
Christian bale played batman really well . I don't know why they replaced him but I respect ben Affleck from playing batman vs superman dawn of justice
I want a movie titled Batman: Year 3 to be the introduction of Robin. Great comic too btw
I don’t know how I feel with the new Batman actor list it’s weird
Still have to give it a shot it could work!
He’s my Batman 🐐
I want another trilogy where new characters, story line and it's in the news that Christopher Nolan is going to make more Batman after the loss of tenet.I hope it's turns out to be true ❤️
He’s right about one thing, it did feel overstuffed many time
As much as I would LOVE to see a 4th installment and I’m sure there’s many other people who would want too as well ... For me it has to have the same Actors ... and of course Nolan & Hans !!! ... the trilogy is fine where it’s at ... Dark knight Rises ended soo perfectly ...
I would love 1 more Batman with Bale by far the best Batman ever
If there's a fourth installment there, batman franchise would be like Sharknado
It’s unfortunate that this decision hasn’t been made when it comes to Prison Break. It should have after Season 4
My problem with Nolan's Batman is that he makes batman so weak and where's the world's greatest detective in Bale's batman. Nolan makes great script for Joker, but batman is no match to this joker. Bruce Wayne questioned himself after the death of rachel. In my opinion, Nolan' s batman is not the dark knight. The time batman become the dark knight is when he said " I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman.
completely agree with both Bale and Nolan.....can hardly say I dont want a fourth one but I think they made the best decision
I think based on the fact that they had to try to follow up the dark knight (which was just amazing) they did a fantastic job with the dark knight rises. Like they had to follow up one of the great performances of our time in what was a jaw droppingly great movie. So the fact that he followed it up with another great movie is just unbelievable
Y’all know good and well is Ledger didn’t die there would have been at least 4 films, one featuring Jokers return and then another with Bane or a separate villain
I think it was originally planned as trilogy with the joker being in two films. I doubt a fourth film would have happened. Nolan definitely had to completely rework the third film though. Would of been insane with joker being in the judge seat instead of crane which could of happened.
"Why don't we cut you up into little pieces and feed you to your pooches, then we will see how loyal a hungry dog really is"
Best Batman Ever, close to reality cap crusader, the detective , vigilant, and hero what gotham deserve, Nolan and Bale make Batman what should be.
Bale's answer to the question is as simple as it is surprisingly humble. The actor claimed he ultimately decided a fourth turn as the Caped Crusader would have been, quote, "overindulgent."
Because the voice he was making took its toll on him
I guess we'll never see Robin in Dark Knight
It’s smart usually in most franchises they make a ton and they get worst but this trilogy was perfect from start to finish and it’s all ya needed no point of ruining it
I honestly want a dark Knight 4. Reasons
1: Batman never quits
2: there will always be threats
3: many more potential story arcs left
Too many other reasons why a 4th dark Knight should be made.
