I worked as a fiberglass boat repair technician (laminator) and after years of grinding glass and resin from hulls of yachts I never ever want to feel that itch ever again . No amount of hazmat suits and full face respirators can stop that insidious and nagging sting and prickle from dang fiberglass dust . I will be sticking with stick bows and sinew backing and saving my lungs and skin a beat down
This is awesome , Kramer. Reminds me of the early days of your channel. Thank you
Hope you dont take any long term issues from that. I dont like that stuff although I did'nt work with it a lot.
I've always heard to cut fiberglass underwater
So glad you‘re bringing back the series! I missed it a lot!
what was the ending bow weight? great build. thanks!
I made a ski bow in 1987... best ones to use are the aluminum and fiberglass skis... it drew about 80 lbs when I was done
I've actually done this with skis before bro. Made 2 sets of limbs for my takedown. Pretty much exactly how you did lol. You'll find it works very well and will last 😎
i work at a ski slope and know people that make all kinds of things from our old rental skis, mostly chairs and benches, i think i just found a new project to try
That thing is beautiful! The way wood and fibreglass are all layered and the finish really makes it all pop! That’s awesome 👏
Je fais la même chose je n'ai pas obtenu le résultat que j'attendais passer de réflexe ni de deflex trop moux
I’ve got heaps of my old snowboards. Some with bamboo cores. And they are the perfect shape..just add the riser. Mate!! This is the best vid ever 🤙🏼
I once made a ski bow also . Just a simple one piece flat bow though. I u.cut it out with a jigsaw and trashed many blades . It shot fast and hard but stacked heavily at full draw . It lasted a few years but eventually it delaminated and collapsed.
Here I have been looking for bow material for ages, while having a barn full of old skis. Very nice video!
If you prepare to drill a hole, don't draw only a point, always draw additionally a wide cross. This way, you can see which direction you have to re-center the drill during the process, in case the drill is sliding off-center.
next up: Kids Bow from ross country skis!
Personally, i like your videos with more of you talking rather than the ASMR of the shop but compared to a couple years ago, i think you found a good balance lol. Always admired your transparency in your mistakes & always drawn to your passion of archery & your craftsmanship. Keep up the great work!
This is my dream, skiing and archery are two of my favorite things.
I just knew this would work, I made a bow from my brothers damaged cross country langlauf skis in the early 80's that worked great, and my bow building skills was nowhere near, as good as yours, its a shame RUclips wasn't about when I was 13 or 14.
Great work, and keep teaching people.
Thanks, Happy New Year!
you are definitely gonna need a bigger wall kramer. lol. nice one.
I did this a few years ago with a pair of broken skis! I didn't know a thing about bow building or tillering, so I got a Bow that was really clunky and way to heavy of a draw weight, but it worked!!
This is SO up my alley!!
Volkl skis have a Poplar core, old k2s had Douglasfir. There’s a big variety of materials used by different manufacturers and time periods.
I made a bunch of these with cross country skis instead of downhill skis...I didn't cut them down along the sides at all and they worked alright for their intended purpose.
I like when bows are snappy
Love the Video, you didn't tell us the draw weight though. For some tricks on fiberglass, rub yourself down with talcum/baby powder arms hands, neck and put on long sleeves. It will help keep the fiberglass particles out of your pores. Love you videos.
I was looking forward to seeing big goofy uncut ski limbs but this is gorgeous!
That was fun to watch
I have a challenge for you. Takedown recurve or long bow wood riser leaf spring arms. Probably gonna need to machine the limbs.
That’s awesome man.
Wood core cross country skis usually use spruce or fir, at least that’s what’s in the core of mine. Good vid…
Good work.
Love that bow! Awesome!
nice to see will it bow again! i was thinking before that if a bow fails then you could do it Mythbusters style and then see what it takes to make it work.
Great video! What are the chances we could get specks on that particular bow? Just like weight and even a guess at fps.
Hey Kramer, Lovely Vid! I am working on experimental bow made from bed frame slats. The slats are multiplex/laminate of unidirectional wood, several slats glued together. Might need a backing due to uneven wood rings/direction. Downside is that it's 90 cm, as long as the slats allowed. I'll give a try at extending the length if the 90 cm works Maybe a video for you for the future??
I was saddened to hear Shatterproof Archery no longer making/selling bows, I was hoping to get the bare bines kit this winter. Will we see any more bow reviews? I want to get a reliable recurve or reflex/deflex bow for next hunting season.
Crazy stuff! 😀
I'd recommend using an older all wood cross country ski. Much better woods, no plastic and no metal ! 😊
Great!
Well done 😁
Awesome!!!!
Wow. Cudos!
You just convinced me to never build anything out of old skis. I've got plenty of them laying around. Great looking bow. I'll stick to wood.
Sweet
I think you might have better luck with older cross country skis. Older skis in general have more wood and less 'other' materials. I'm talking older as in 60s or 70s, not 90s. And I think that cross country skis are already about the right width and shape. Great vid.
Cool idea and implementation . now how about a water ski bow ?
🙏
hi Kramer, do you recon you could make a bow from ventian blinds ? this series is fun 👍
Snowboard next?
Would be great to also HEAR the bow shooting! For the "full" experience online 😉
How fast is the ski bow?
Bow made out of LEGO would be cool
Interested in the poundage of this.
That's one nice bow
At 16 i made a fiberglass motircycle tank.
Never again.
Now, where can I find a set of used skis over here in between this place called Wolf Creek and Purg? 😂
Looks like you need to auction off some of those bows since you aren't selling any on your website any more.
Very neat! So I have a little challenge for you.
Using whatever materials you’d like. To recreate the Recurve Bow from the Far Cry games. It’s been in pretty much every Far Cry game since 3. It’s an ambidextrous modern takedown bow with fairly mild recurve tips.
Maybe also do the Hunter Bow that’s in Far Cry 4. Which is I think a static tip recurve bow that looks entirely made of wood. With three pieces attached together.
The front being what forms the Limbs, the Middle Piece sort of having carved arrow shelves that stick out (it’s ambidextrous) and seems to be a reinforcement otherwise.
And the belly piece is part of the handle and shaped sort of like a pistol grip
But interestingly it has like a makeshift two pin sight attached to it.
For an otherwise old fashioned looking all wood bow it’s a bit unusual.
What did you use for your template to mark out your holes?
Can you try building a bow using guitar neck??? would sound awesome to mee!
I assume twin-tips would work best for this project
Hey Kramer, I broke the limb on my Black Widow bow And was wondering if I sent it to you. Could you take the handle and make a take down bow?
I built one a couple years ago from a pair of Hart Super Comp prototypes. Not the best skis I've had and a much worse bow.. but cool anyway.
Wonder how a skateboard would do their usually maple laminate.
I wonder if he can replicate the mockingjay bow which is a combination of a longbow and recurve bow from hunger games mockingjay part I and II
Wonder if cross country skiis would be better to work from.
It will. But heavy and slow. Unless ski good ;).
I challenge you to make a bow from a broom stick.
Newspapers and resin?
Could you make a bow out of pine that would shoot at 40lbs if you made it long enough to compensate...like 12ft? 😂 I've often wondered that
Whats the draw weight?
PVC bow making
How many foot pounds draw ?
I am a bit surprised that glueing the "underside" of a ski to anything holds up. (your handle piece) Usually that plastic surface is "soaked"/thoroughly impregnated with tons of wax to enable a better waterfilm to glide on. At least with older skis over the years the wax is so in the plastic, that i would have guessed you need to get rid of that plastic underside to use it in the center section of the bow.
If skis are made to be bow every bow company will make skis too.
Will it bow a skate board.
Hi do you sell bows ?
Duct tape helps to get fiberglass out of the skin
plastic bottle next 😡😡🤔
NEWSPAPER
Music sucks …distracting…otherwise most interesting project…will try it if can find skis in hawaii😂😂
stop putting cringey ass copyright-free music in your videos, please.. or please don't up the volume of the music by 500%..
