I've been watching this channel while battling head and neck cancer . I have a love for archery since I was a kid . Great to have a young man bring bow making on a easy journey. I've tried and broke several bows. I'm inpatient and that is my fault . Keep up the great work our friend.

I'm pretty psyched about this video. I have both bamboo and some oak charred whiskey barrel slats that have been laying in my house for a few years now. I built a horse bow from bamboo and hardwood a few years back and I have been thinking about another project using the whiskey barrel and bamboo together perhaps an old school crossbow or something for one of my sons.

With the length it sort of brings to mind a Manchu bow. Put some string bridges at the bottom of the siyahs and you might be on to it. Cool thing to try thumb draw with, but get/make a thumb ring first. It is pretty different, but pretty fun. Check out Armin Hirmer's channel for good thumb draw archery. There are many traditional archers from all over Asia (Turkey to China) who's names escape me right now on RUclips that are also good resources for the various thumb release styles.

Apparently, since I have no tree knowledge, I have lots of black locust wood. A few dried, semi split logs, but also a fresh fairly straight black locust tree that has to come down.
Any advice on how to best dry the fresh tree, for how long and any other advice would be welcome.
I want to use this wood to make my first own bow(s) and 2 quarterstaves, so any advice is welcome. Since this is free wood, it will be my first project. I know it’s not the easiest wood to begin with.

Great looking bow, and great video. Wondering what your draw weight ended up at, maybe I missed it? I did a white oak longbow recently from air dried white oak that I had left over from a boat building project and I just did a 45 degree scarf joint to join the two staves at the handle. I did a thin lamination over the joint and no backing on the bow and it seems to be holding up fine. Seems to be a bit easier to execute than the finger joint a long as it holds up.

Check out Stiliyan Stefanov for some videos on composite bow building processes. The different approach to tillering might be of particular interest.
I believe in Arab Archery there is a third type of bow in between a self bow, and a composite "horse" bow. Its basically a self bow that is made like a self bow but then reinforced with horn and sinew. This is quite different than the more common process that composite "horse" bows are made. It would perhaps be an easier entry point into traditional composite bows that will leverage some of the skills you've already acquired. It would allow you to gain some experience with the materials of traditional composite bow construction but not require the totally different approach and expertise needed to successfully build one. It would also be just as traditional and historically accurate as other culture's composite bows.

Because Pine and Birch is very common and cheap here in scandinavia. I'm very courious what draw weight they might produce.

It would look better with a slight curve to the siyas (not too late to add that either) and some day you gotta make a bow with recurve in the bending limbs or the handle. You might be surprised how much arrow speed/penetration you get from recurving the bow closer to the handle without even adding draw weight.
