Believe it or not I found a way to make games work lol. Windows 10 debloater makes magic. Maybe consider doing a video about it? I also needed a cooling pad, disabling it's firewall, windows defender. I don't go into fishy websites or download a lot from the internet so I'm okay with that, battery set into performance, window also set into performance mode, a truly lowspecgamer setup. Cheers mate
I had bought this model back in 2020 with the intention of getting a mobile typewriter with network support and a more recent bluetooth module (for my relatively new and not-bad-at-all headphones). I also wanted the battery to still offer some reliable running time and it should be super cheap and lightweight. (Mainly because I want to throw it into my waterproof bicycle bags and NOT worry about risking an expensive device that way and also NOT add a lot of weight ... since I actually live in an area with lots of steep roads.) For that purpose this device worked reasonably well and since I was super busy I didn't bother switching away from Windows ... even though the long bootup and shutdown times were annoying and (when not using the device for a while) the SLOWNESS of Windows updates and the background activity they cause for the first few hours really killed it a bit ... and more importantly (which wasn't mentioned in this video): After using the device for two years ... through windows updates alone the Windows installation (even after using built-in cleanup features for temporary files and no-longer-needed update data etc.) became so incredibly bloated that LESS than 7 GB of free space remain even with only a bare minimum of installed applications. (Yes: To keep the space for my personal data above 5 GB I even had to uninstall thunderbird and heavily restrict my browser cache.) So fast forward to yesterday: I finally switched to Linux and I should have done that earlier. Booting and shutting down the system has become so much faster and obviously having a browser + wordprocessor open is much better with the smaller memory-footprint Linux itself as an OS has. Overall I'm still super happy with the device and would recommend it (or a similar newer model) to people with a similar use-case like mine. However I also do own a different notebook (more performance for doing other things during travels) as well as a desktop system. Even to someone who thinks that he doesn't need a lot of performance I would NOT recommend an IdeaPad Slim if it would be the only computer system that person has.
Side note: this pc works pretty well with GeForce Now (at least on the windows side) so you can play very high end games using it. I played Assassin's Creed Syndicate via geforce now with no issues. However I do have intermittent problems with video streaming for some reason even though it takes up far less data than game streaming.
Hello there! I switched to lubuntu 20.04 and the laptop is doing much better now than with windows. But I must say that the browsing experience is still pretty slow (both on firefox and midori). Do you have any suggestion? Thank you ^^
I have the same PC and the best Operating System for this computer is LOC OS, the main version is overall the best (way better than ubuntu or even MInt) Loc OS is easy to use, just like Linux Mint.
Hey Eevnos Linux How are you? I love the theme of that Kubuntu distro! I'm trying to install Zorin OS on the eMMC of my Lenovo Ideapad Slim 1 It's 64GB of storage. Can't do it I don't know what's going on!
I wanted to do this but my Lenovo Slim Ideapad 1 seemed to have a locked eMMC chip. It is really easy to corrupt and will not take a bootable usb. Pure junk.
Hey great video. Thank you for sharing. Do you know anything about the Lenovo Ideapad 1? I am trying to see if it is compatible and what distro to use if it is. However, I have run into trouble finding information for that installation. Any resources or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the great content!
I am having the same problem. I want to buy a "LENOVO Notebook IdeaPad 1 14IGL05, Celeron N4020, 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC, 14 Zoll FHD" for my organisation and need to know beforehand if Ubuntu or other Distributions work, so I do not end up having to use Windows (which I despise). because I messed up the installation of Ubuntu.

You’re gonna need to get a WiFi adapter off amazon for like 5$ because the onboard chip doesn’t work you have to mess with it and download the appropriate drivers. But for that you will need an internet connection lol 5$ WiFi adapter fixed the issue
Hi, do you think that with linux it should be able to use google meet properly for online classes? I'm struggling with this, because i bought this ipad for my son and the audio and video are so slow that we had to give up using this equipment for online classes. Also if he needs to work at the same time with google docs it stops working...i'm so frustrated because they advertise this product for students and it simply doesn't respond :(
Can you please tell me how to boot from USB? F8 seems not working. I’ve managed to enter BIOS and to set my USB flash as a first boot option, but laptop always loads up windows in the end.
It’s still not amazing, but it’s definitely a lot better with Linux!

For the price I think it is quite an amazing laptop. The build quality is solid imo.
Thx 4 review it
I have an even older version of this same machine 32 gb emmc and 2gb ram 🤣

Linux is always better on slim and trim laptops

Installed pop os on this machine, which I bought from Costco for $150. Works great. Not a speed demon, but at this price, who cares.
It runs good with cloudready too

Is it possible to install pop os on HP Envy 13_ (Not the x360). It looks like a great deal. Wonder if everything works just from the start.
It should be.
PopOS is based on Ubuntu so, in theory, you should be able to install that anywhere Ubuntu can be installed.
