Very few actors that started in the "80's have the staying power, looks, stamina and box office draw Tom Cruise has. He came from very humble beginning and is still going strong after all these years. He has a right to practice any religion he chooses, even a strange one like Scientology. All I know abput Tom Cruise that I personally witnessed after a whole night of shooting (Rock of Ages/Miami....i was an extra). We filmed from 8 pm to 6 am (night bc it was a concert scene). When we were finally done and going blind from fatigue, he came out and signed autographs and chatted to fans for over an hour. He could have easily just gone back to his dressing room and slept and no one would have thought anything. He was very charming.
I own so many of his movies. He has made some of the finest movies for sure! The Last Samurai, Edge of Tomorrow, Interview with the Vampire, Vanilla Sky, War of the Worlds, Mission Impossible 4-6 andMinority Report...all films I own. I just can't hate this guy. The charisma is just too strong.

He states that Scientology has made him a better person . No one can factually challenge that . His relationship with his children is a very private matter . If the Scientology church is against mental health therapy, then many of it's members are likely to be suffering (unnecessarily) from some form of emotional instability. Celebrities are in a peculiar position in that the more successful they are at their profession, the more they are forced out of common society. It isn't hard to see the appeal of obtainable connection. However, from the outside to us, it is easy to see that this type of friendship is superficial and that there is ulterior motive.

Honestly, I don't care about any of this. He may be a bit crazy, but he is one of the most achieved actors this world will ever see, and his dedications to his movies is just fantastic to witness. Now, it's easy to hate Tom because of the Scientology-thing, but in reality, I just feel very sorry for him. I mean, they probably got to him at a time where he was unhappy and weak. It's his personal right to do what he wants in his personal life short of seriously hurting or killing someone just like it is the same right with the rest of us. And yet , I can't seem help to keep wondering how his beliefs and apparently controlling behavior have hurt and probably even scared those in his personal life i.e his wife & kids. And even though it's his business not mine, I feel bad for this he has affected. As for the effect on me, his comments and abrasiveness in these past years has turned me off, and even kind of creeped me out. So I definitely like & respect him a lot less as a person. But again, it's his right to believe and do what he choses. And none of if that takes away from his talent and the quality of his films WHEN he does make a good one. And yet, I wish I could still like him too, which I can't. Very few actors that started in the "80's have the staying power, looks, stamina and box office draw Tom Cruise has. He came from very humble beginning and is still going strong after all these years. He has a right to practice any religion he chooses, even a strange one like Scientology. ALL the women he married KNEW EXACTLY what they were getting into. The A list crowd in Hollywood is very tight so maybe when he was with Mimi Rogers it wasn't as deep with that church but certainly with Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes him and his life style were VERY clear, they chose to be with him anyway. I am not that much of a Tom Cruise fan, but to be honest he is an extremely capable versatile actor that has done a legion of great works in films of many different Genres and I deeply respect him for that. All I know abput Tom Cruise that I personally witnessed after a whole night of shooting (Rock of Ages/Miami....i was an extra). We filmed from 8 pm to 6 am (night bc it was a concert scene). When we were finally done and going blind from fatigue, he came out and signed autographs and chatted to fans for over an hour. He could have easily just gone back to his dressing room and slept and no one would have thought anything.

At the start of his carer he did behave differently and he did change. He used to be a kind of cool/good guy that you can trust. But lately, he behaves as he is trying to hide something and puts on persona in media, but his persona differs, so it's easy to spot.
It's amazing how envious/jealous so many people are of Tom and just constantly try to ridicule him so much even though the vast majority of all movie stars have plenty of weird or even crazy lives too. People forget that he's also an excellent physical actor as much as a dramatic one. He was amazing in The Last Samurai and his skills really looked strong and well schooled, making him very believable as a great samurai in the film. The man does many of his own dangerous stunts. How could anyone not appreciate an actor like him? He is also very positive and determined in his goals, which shows his great character. Yes, his family and religious life is very complicated, but that does not take away from any his great qualities. I very much respect Tom Cruise and enjoy all his movies.

Honestly, I don't care about any of this. He may be a bit crazy, but he is one of the most achieved actors this world will ever see, and his dedications to his movies is just fantastic to witness. I didn't learn anything new here. I've been a longtime fan of Tom Cruise and all this stuff has been revealed before. Always knew he was a domineering control freak. Also an emotional man with strong convictions... it's what makes him so great in movies. It also gives him a crazy side and I feel bad that he's gotten so lost in his religion. My guess is he can never leave Scientology because they have so much dirt on him... whatever that may be. I'm not entirely convinced he's an entirely straight man, however. I had a good friend back in the late 90's whose gay older brother claims he was at a private gay party where Cruise appeared some yrs earlier. I always believed him... and never cared. Can someone please tell me how many times the mainstream media has told us the truth ? It's like Tom Cruise is the biggest problem in the world. Please people, give the guy a break. Get a life, Tom is a successful actor, one of the best in his generation, in Hollywood. People in America doesn't like Cruise but he is loved all over the world. He surely can skip your appreciation. Agreed!! I don't agree with Scientology, but if it keeps him centered and happy, it's his business--his life; as long as he is not hurting anyone, his personal life is HIS business. I still love Tom Cruise! "The Last Samurai" is one of my all-time favorite movies and Les Grossman (who knew Tom could dance like that!!) made "Tropic Thunder" one of my favorite comedies!!
John Bills You know, editing is the key to good writing. Through editing, we give thought to our composition and we focus the writing more precisely. For example, a thorough edit of your posting would delete the first six sentences, as they are non sequitur. Although "Great Tom" in the seventh and final sentence may be just a little overblown, if that is how you truly feel, leave it and leave the rest of the statement as written. So, you see, paring the text down to only the last sentence loses none of the significant content of the paragraph and saves many, many people the trouble and time it takes to read such a bulk of pointless content. As for any savings in writing time, I am sorry that I cannot give you better news, but when I take into consideration the quality of the deleted six sentences, I can see that you would not have saved much time and trouble in their composition.
