  • This video will show you how I rebuilt the dual piston brake calipers on a 2015 Ford F150 with the 5.0L V8. The dual piston caliper design is used in other engine sizes for the F150's (2012 - 2017) with slight differences. The components that were replaced were the: 1. Pistons 2. Piston seals (O rings) 3. Piston Dust Boots. In addition, we purchased another kit to replace the caliper bracket slide pins and the slide pin dust boots.
Typical failures of brake calipers can occur due to corrosion build up on the piston's seal surface caused by brake fluid moisture accumulation or a split in the piston dust boot allowing entry of dirt and water. When the piston's seal surface become pitted or rusted, they may loose their sealing properties as well as lock up inside the caliper piston cup.
Caliper slide pins that do not move freely within the caliper bracket will cause uneven brake pad wear. You can either replace or clean them followed by a coat of new brake grease to allow the calipers to adjust its position relative to the brake pad wear.
To perform this repair, you should have a compressed air source to push out the caliper pistons (you can't pull them out) and something to block the pistons from "shooting out" in a uncontrolled manner. I used my dual caliper piston compression tool with a small block of wood.
To perform a complete repair, I also suggest you replace the flexible brake line that connects to the caliper. They can dry rot over time resulting in leaks and the line internals may collapse which may cause brake lock up.

Excellent video! If you are having an issue with your calipers locking up or dragging, the problem is the Phenolic piston. Once it starts getting hot it swells therefore causing it to stick. This has been an issue with the 150/250/350 trucks for years. Ford knows about this and has refused to correct it and that their only solution is for you to replace the calipers. Replace them with steel pistons and your problems are solved.

Bravo on rebuilding the calipers. I've found it's really easy to rebuild them and a great way to save money. I use Toyota red rubber grease as specified in the factory manual on the seals and boots. I reuse the old pistons.

Be sure not to forget the wood block when using compressed air to push the pistons out. They’re lightweight and will go flying! Don’t ask how I know! Lol.
Also, dial back your air pressure if you can to lower the force ejecting the piston. No need for 100 psi on those puppies.

Where can I find the yellow seal adapter you used, or do you know the diameter so I can get the right size? Also does the piston compressor also work to depress the pistons so you can get the caliper off. Thanks, your video is great, keep them coming.

Do t you use brake grease instead of brake fluid ?? I thought fluid corrodes and it ain’t greasy. Thinking about rebuilding my 06 f150 calipers

Fantastic video. It is helping me with the same job. Can I ask if you have the PN for the seals repair kit you used? I have ordered the seals repair kit from two different part stores and they always send the wrong one. Thanks in advance!
