This is great Carl. I got this solo down with your help. You have opined up a new world to me with the electric guitar and all that it can do. It’s a gift for you to share this knowledge with the world. I am truly thankful.
Have to give credit where it's due... One of my hobbies is downloading backing tracks into my Presonus program with the Ampire amp modeler and like others, I learn the guitar parts to songs and record them over the backing tracks. I always come back to Carl as he's (in my opinion) the best on RUclips for comprehensive lessons, along with being the most accurate with how the songs were originally played. In May of last year Scotti Hill posted a video of how to play this solo and Carl having posted this 4 years earlier, pretty much nailed it note for note... He even knew why Scotti did the overhand and knew to use the words "Ringing out" which is how Scotti describes it in the video... Very impressive and thank you for all of the videos!!
@@Name-bo4ox Honestly, practicing the techniques is the best way. Lots of Legato (hammer on / pull offs). Some string skipping. And some tricks like artificial harmonious, whammy drop & raking.
i got up to 7:15....information overload just gunna practice that first half for now. This guy seems very accurate though. Thank you sir for sharing this musical knowledge
i'm about to buy a new guitar after 15 years not playing it.. and this is the 1st song i want to play... just want to remember the old day back then when i'm perform this song at stage.. after watching your lesson, damn... all my play is totally wrong...hahahaha... i just hear and play without any tab or lesson... thanks dude
Just found this one Carl you rule man. This is one of, if not THE best guitar solos I've ever heard. Nice. Cant wait to get off work so I can go home and learn this lol
Love your videos remind me of my old teacher was 90 years old but taught the same way you teach some teachers are horrible dont give you a thorough understanding and really show you how to play it
Hey Carl, nice job once again really clear lessons, love them, but could you do a lesson of Animals by Muse it's got some really awesome licks in it and I think it would make a great lesson too. Thanks.
Hi, what is the reason of the over-hand technique at 5:08 please? Why the position of the right hand is different between 5:08 and 5:36? Sorry for the newbie question. Really like your guitar lessons!!
It's nothing really.. It's just a way to mute the sound of the strings making any noise while doing the run with ya right fingers.. can easily do it without it.
Thanks Carl, a nice simple one that I could learn in an afternoon :-). I don't really get the hand over the neck bit though, I know that's how he does it but is it just for string muting? It sounds fine when I play it normally tbh, maybe he just does it for a bit of flash!
Great tutorial. How do you get that shrill sound on the pitch harmonic bend at the 3:55 point of your video? Are you using an effect? I am not getting that shrill sound at all. Thanks.
This sounds a little different from the album version, but I'll take it nevertheless! Anyone know if there are studio tricks that make it impossible in one go?
In my 45 years this remains my favorite all time solo. So much raw passion and not so blazing fast that it sounds like many other 80s solos
It’s true, melodic and raw
It takes me right back to 1989...and I wasn't even alive then

such a wonderful melodic solo, and glorious use of pinch harmonics.
I used to play this solo when I was 15 I’m now 44 I used to love skid row I was obsessed with this solo and learning to play their songs.

My favorite guitar solo ever. Always been too intimated by it to attempt it, thanks to this video, I nailed it. Thanks!

I had the Skid Row guitar tabs as a teen but could never get this messy solo to work. Carl is the best instructor. I can kill it now. Thank you!
How long did u learn till u can play it perfectly?
@@Name-bo4ox Well I’m old and been playing the guitar for 30 years so… once I saw the video I could play it in a day

Carl's you're awesome man love that you can belt out some of the new stuff but some of the classic rock and new rock is just as good
Thanks for this amazing lesson explaining all the nuances.
I love the agreesive pinch harmonic that he does at the end of the solo. I swear he mimics a trem dive harmonic in the video.
wonderful and melodical solo very well played as usual. Keep up on doing this unique work
A lot of melodic riffs woven together nicely !!

that right hand does nothing with note but just mute (and lookin cool)
epic lesson dude. Thanks! and Cheers
I can't see (or hear) what purpose the right finger barred across the 10th fret is doing at ~5 1/2 minutes in.

I thought he was pulling off to the 10th fret
@@larrycrabs5995 it's just a way to suppress noise, like feedback from the top strings. He's pulling off to fret 12.
@@Pedro72740 i see. im pretty sure Scotti Hill did that in the music video

I know right
so good i started singing as the solo ended
What is the purpose of the hand overlay for the quick pulloff section? Just as a string mute?
