    When we are bird people, being around them is so natural. I have had birds since 2015. Lovebirds mostly.

      I agree, not being around them is like something is missing in my heart!

    Rax loved this video and spent most of it kissing the screen whenever he could see the girls. He's much more intimidated by the wild cockies..... though they're MUCH bigger than he and your girls are. Now he's just happily gnawing his toenails.
    Major Mitchell cockatoos have very different lifestyles to galahs and corellas and are less common as a result. Across their range (which is smaller than the range of other 'white' cockatoos & galahs) the two different subspecies vary in status from 'secure' to 'vulnerable' to 'endangered'.
    It's still a comparatively large range though, being about a third to half the size of the contiguous USA. Being largely semi-arid to arid, it can't support the same density of birds as other areas, so major mitchells live in much smaller flocks and need larger breeding ranges than similar species.
    This is also what makes them more vulnerable to changes in their habitat; the loss of breeding trees being a major factor, along with competition with galahs and corellas for breeding sites. Their numbers have decreased, but as a species they're a long way from extinction yet, though this varies from state to state and between subspecies. Remember, Australia has 8 states/territories in about the same area the US has the 48 contiguous states so wildlife population numbers are unknown/guesstimates for vast areas of the country with only small, remote populations to monitor them.
    Galahs and little corellas on the other hand are everywhere, while sulphur-crested cockies live along the Eastern third of the country from the far south to the far north; wherever there is some rainfall. They're on the farms, in the bush, in the parks and in the cities. They're in my garden, they're on the football ovals, in the golf courses and on the roadsides. They're more common than pigeons in most places! Long-billed corellas and gang gangs have the smallest range and pretty much live in exactly the same ares in the south east of the country as each other.... but occupy different niches in the environment.

      @@ParrotBliss It's a lot to read in a RUclips comment.... but I thought I'd put it there for anyone interested. I'd have been sniffy if RUclips had deleted this one!

    Is one more cuddly than the other?

    • @anserbauer309
      @anserbauer309 26 дней назад +1

      Neither of these species are known for being especially 'cuddly', but galahs are typically thought of as being calmer, more trusting and less skittish than Major Mitchells..... but I've known birds of both species that are real cuddle bugs. Galahs especially prefer their faces, necks and heads tickled over cuddles in my experience.
      The white cockatoos and corellas are more known for being cuddly, but every bird is an individual and every relationship is different.

      I agree, our white cockatoo is more cuddly- the pink girls, depends on who you are. Mitchell loves my husband, Galah is nice to me and lets me pet her.
