1st Day with Pet Dove: Unboxing, Setup, and First Impressions

- Doug is an orange-pied ringed-neck dove. Doug came a day late and I was super worried because the lady at the post office said the bird was very quiet. Luckily Doug was alive and probably just scared. Poor baby. It's been 3 months and things have been going really well!
I didn’t think the title of unboxing a dove was serious

right? It made it sound like some gaming setup 😂

no opening and dissecting, seems pretty safe
Something about the way doves are shaped is very delightful
Friend-shaped. They remind me of the glass bird sculptures from the Finnish company iittala . My mom has a collection of them and they look very “dovely” 😊
@@Emiliapocalypse "friend-shaped" is also how I describe band
borb. Bird orb,
their rotundness especially stands out because most birds are more aerodynamic
@@amazinggrapes3045 well thats because feathers are liars, even the most aerodynamic birds (like swallows and swifts) can fluff up their feathers and make them very round
I have had an Australian Crested pigeon for 16 yrs, he was a squab being attacked by ravens when we rescued him, he must have had a homing instinct because when we released him he always came back, so we gave up trying to release him. He is the best he comes when called. He is intelligent and affec.
That’s why they got used in war to send messages out!
we got pet dove unboxing before gta 6

I find it interesting how confident he is and how much he wants to explore for day 1. Maybe im too used to cats were they hide forever as they slowly get used to their new place.
I did too. I think it's common to have birds not want to leave the cage for awhile.
Gosh I was expecting the shyness when I unexpectedly ended up with a kitten from a coworker. But she was jumping on my head from day one! Seriously. I was so used to adopting adult cats for so many years that I forgot what kittens can be like. She runs parkour vertically around the walls like Spider-Man with the zoomies and makes race car noises while doing it.
@@Emiliapocalypseyour kitten is a very confident kitten, this is a good thing, if you have toys that you can engage with her while playing- that would be great for your relationship with her, engagement with her will her keep her confident and happy. The vocal zoomies are very funny, I have a 7/8 month old kitten who does what you’re describing, I chase her around the room, she loves it, I also have 5 older cats, only one will play with her so I figured I’d help too.
Doves aren't so much confident as they have no self-preservation instinct. They have something like a 90% mortality rate in the first year in the wild, because they don't recognize predators or dangerous situations. They don't build nests, either. Just pull some sticks together on a flat surface and plop their eggs there. Honestly, I'm shocked they haven't gone extinct.
I rescue pigeons and it can depend on their personality. Had birds from day two all in my business and nosey about laptops, tv and what im eating. Others will take a day to even eat from their food bowl. Even when Ive had ones needing tube feeding the more outgoing ones will still be less scared.
the fact that she’s curious about the other doves is cute but bittersweet. I could imagine that as a short film with melancholy piano music 🎶
same i was like "noooo she can't even go out there to hang out🥺"
if this was the only content that ever existed on youtube, i think i'd be content.
I just realized that content can be used two ways

i have a pigeon to share my life with. he was a rescue and very sick as a baby. every day i told him he was the best bird in the universe. he went blind. his eyes are sunken but his plumage is beautiful and i think he is perfect. and he has a straw hat all for himself. ❤
I rescue pigeons when I can and I had one of my oops babies off a rescue pair get scalped by his dad. For five months he was me and my families house companion as he regrew skin. They are all such characters. Mine really liked watching true crime documentaries, and "talking heads on the tv". We always must do our best to utterly spoil them. My guys favourite is his own mug of warm decaf green tea, and McDonald's burger buns. Hes in an aviary now with his mate and my spare girls, looking like mr burns.
He sounds perfect ❤
Awww. Bless you
I used to raise doves. Had a similar issue when a dove I shipped went to the wrong PO. The future owner was freaking out (and 8 mo pregnant). The PO that got the bird said "it's dead" which I refused to believe, and finally got them to actually look inside and see the bird staring back at them. All good, it arrived safely, just a day late.
"there's so many spots that don't have all purpose flour behind you" love these shenanigans. It's Doug's world and we're just living in it!
You and Doug have come so far through life. It is, indeed, a little known fact that doves love hats, but they also love all purpose flour and ramen. You've already learned this, but others who watch this video (or have doves of their own) will also learn this.
I try to not a big deal about it but everything you said is correct.
I read this comment before watching the video and thought "doves like hats" meant they like wearing tiny top hats 😂 Boy was I wrong...
@@xanperia and now I'm upset that band has not given us a video of Doug in a tiny top hat!
@@_illuziun_ He can still do it! 🤞

the way you sing to her is so sweet and silly, i love it.
What a sweet little baby. Wishing you both the best in life ✨
AW thanks!!
I love him!! I've been taking care of a mourning dove that fell out of its nest twice and now I'm IN LOVE with her, and her with me. Lol
you are an angel for helping her 🥹🩷
@@maratesfaye aw thank you so much for that. She's my sweetheart. She's follows me around the house everywhere I go. She was just following me room to room as I was getting ready for bed. She's the sweetest thing. 🤗😍
I love him! His plumage is so beautiful! He seems happy in his new home.
When it molts into adult feathers (around 6 months old), it will transform. Pied doves go from muddy looking babies to striking adults, you can hardly believe they are the same bird.
My first time seeing a dove that color very nice
I don’t know how this came across my feed! But I don’t mind
Love the singing LOL. I wish everyone was as gentle with their birds as you. Such a sweet video ❤
We got a sweet dove in the autumn and he turned out to be everything we needed, it’s so cute how he laughs when he lands, coos, and snuggles while we’re cooking in the kitchen! Turns out she was a girl cause she layed eggs everywhere 😂 so we put little snuggly blue bird blankets everywhere so she’s cosy :) just love her :) happy you’re enjoying your dove, Doug looks so fun! ✨
My dove explored and got used to his home and now he just never leaves my side, he’s very clingy and lovey while my other one just has no thoughts going on and she just sits and vibes, doves have so much personality!
Thank you for giving these pigeons the attention and love they deserve. Kudos to your audio and your sound effects, this coming from a fellow audio producer.
Thanks, but you're going to really hate the video titled "Macro Doug E. Dove" then, lol. I was using a dynamic mic plugged right into the camera while handholding both the camera and microphone at the same time, meanwhile the gain was too high. It's an achievement in a way.
what a gorgeous little lad
My favorite part of this video is seeing the N64 controller at 3:06. The pigeon is beautiful but the controller brings back so much nostalgia
Aww, what a cute birb! I like the caramel colour, too. Seems like your baby is adjusting well. Thanks for respecting your bird's space and letting the bird lead the way.
I have a West of England Tumbler pigeon, and she's my entire life. Pigeons and doves don't get enough credit or love. Thanks for loving these dinosaurs! 💚🕊️🦖
Thank you as well
My ring neck dove is around 15 years old now. They're very pretty little nerds with a cute little call. Just wait till they start jumping at you and making their "laughing call" 😂
ringneck doves are actually quite different than pigeons (rock doves)!
@@RkkiTkkiTaavi I mean I know I have both lol. Pigeons are larger and their call is completely different. The bird in this video is a ringneck dove.
I had a dove for a while, an apricot colored ring-neck. He was the loudest, most obnoxious thing. When I was asking around about quiet birds, people were like, oh! doves are so sweet and quiet. LIES! The cooing sounds quiet from far away, but in the same house, it's like an alarm clock you can't turn off. All day, all night. COO-CROOO! COO-CROO! and the occasional, horrifying HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! like a haunted porcelain doll. lol
they didn't tell you that ringneck doves are a different species than domesticated doves 😅
@@RkkiTkkiTaavi there's like 20 species of domesticated dove, dude, and ringneck is one of them. You're going to have to be more specific about what species you're laughing at me for not getting instead.
I love those blinds! I forgot what they’re called but I have them too, back when my cockatiel could fly they were great at stopping her from flying into the window. Good choice for any bird keeper!
I think they are just called vinyl vertical blinds? Haha, not sure. The problem I have with them is they kinda block me and bird from looking out the sliding glass door. We still have the blinds but added something called "acopian bird savers" that I made. They are are vertical hanging lines of paracord attached to a horizontal line of paracord, spaced about 3-4 inches apart. They actually don't even look bad. Google "acopian bird savers" if interested!
I didn’t know they could ship live animals like that. Well, I’ve seen insects and spiders shipped, but never a bird. She’s beautiful. 😊
PS. The Nintendo 64 was the best!
It traumatises them, it's not something that should happen.
The only birds that are allowed to be shipped in the US are poultry, and pigeons and doves are considered poultry! My pidge was shipped to a post office near me as well.
@@cambrialayton514 it must be really scary for them being transported alone like that :(
@@scarlett20232 It’s certainly possible, but it’s dark and close and safe, which is an ideal healing environment for most birds. And my birdie has definitely forgotten about the shipping, since it was over three years ago.
Looks like a tiny adorable seagull. 😂❤
Doug is my new favorite person.
I'm looking into adopting a pigeon one day, so this is a nice look into what shenanigans I can expect. Doug looks great, and seems like a confident bird!
That's slow mow flight. Was so cool. She is absolutely beautiful.
Cage might be too small for a dove. They do better in aviaries, but I get it... I didn't even have a cage when I got my dove. I just set up a nest where he would sleep and otherwise he was just flying free in my bedroom, perching on the loft bed and stuff. It's not too hard to make an aviary honestly (just use wood and chicken wire), just make sure it's easy to clean and nothing sharp sticks out.
Hey thanks, you're right. Looking into building an aviary. The cage is mostly just for sleeping but I'd still like to give it a bigger space and if another dove enters the picture it'll be mandatory.
if ur building it outside, DO NOT USE CHICKEN WIRE. most predators are able to easily did through the wire.doves do get the higher ground but if the predator gives up, thr dove might just fly out in the unknown. instead, if u want ur doves to be as safe as possible, use hardware cloth. it id VERY strong.
0:58 poor baby looks so scared! Glad he has a loving home now 😊
this was like a hug for my soul.
Love him sitting at the window watching the mourning doves. We have a nest on the patio & my cat does this, the babies grow up & like to fly at the window to mess with him 😂 They're frenemies
I never considered having pet doves until my family had to take one in for 3 days. Doves are so gentle, they'll perch on you and not move much, a big contrast to the parakeet I met at my aunt's house. (Her parakeet literally tried to hang upside-down on my finger 😭) The dove would talk to me after the first day, she got used to me and I loved her. I let her go once she got better though, it was great seeing her fly away. She was your average ground dove, but I will have to say my favorite breed? Or coat? I don't know what to call it, would probably be the red pied ring neck dove. They look really pretty in my opinion. :]
Doves are so damn gorgeous. They're so pleasing to look at, calming even.
gorgeous dove you have right there
I want dives and pigeons soooo bad, but all of my family refuses to get birds. I’m glad you have one and seem to be taking good care of it
I have ringneck doves too. They are amazing. I do think yours is a female because of that very gentle coo. Females typically sound more "hen-like" and are much quieter than males, who COO ALL THE TIME lol.
I got this on my recommended and oh my gosh am i glad I did! Good day to you both.
thank you. good day to you too!
Gorgeous dove! So thankful he/she was alive and well.. 🧡
it's so clear how much you love this little dove and that made me so happy as i watched this video
Pretty bird 🐦
Unboxing, Setup, First Impressions - that made me snort!

cute. fire up the N64
He does the 16 star speedrun.
I once tried to ship a cat (in an airplane to someone) and the regulations and paperwork was terrible, we tried shipping three times, separate hour drives to the airport and each time something went wrong. The person ended passing through the state and just picked it up on the way back to their place
He's so cute! Pigeons are my favorite birds. I didn't know that doves also came in fancy colors like pigeons do. Maybe some day I'll be able to keep one.
What a pretty bird. I love this video, so goofy. ❤
너무 귀여워요~ 당신의 애정이 느껴져요
what a delightful little man
delightful 🥺 she is so shapely!! and I love the relaxed vibe of the video
Doug is so handsome, love this video, very cute!
Thank you! Was just watching your pileated woodpecker video. Believe it or not, just saw my first 2 the other day! They were extremely far away but it was still cool. Sometimes these birds feel like celebrities to me, lol.
@@bandbirdzone That's awesome, I love those birds and I always get so excited when I see them - funny to watch them work😂don't think you would want one of them in your apartment though!
You have a dove AND an N64 setup?!? SUPER COOL!!!!! 😎
Yep! Btw, I watched the entire non-short video on your channel. I hope you can find time to make those follow up videos someday.
@@bandbirdzone Thank you. My radiation treatment is over, so now I’m recovering. Lord willing, I’ll start posting again in October. ☺️
Wow what a beautiful bird.
We got our orange pied ringneck doves a few years ago, and we raised 4 of their babies. Your dove looks almost identical to one of ours! And acts the same too 😂 Jelly has enjoyed all the hats, and playing my ukulele. Try teaching Doug how to play your banjo! We had one of our females lay an egg in a backpack hanging on a wall, they like picking the highest locations for nesting sites. Ours love our cieling fan (always stays off) and we have an over the door hanging organizer for all their nest boxes for easy keeping. Love the bird bath setup on your porch for the wild doves! Enjoy the companionship, doves are an experience 🕊️
So cute!🥰 We have about 25 pigeons (fantails) as pets outside. We built them aviary which we always open for the day and let them roam free, they don´t go very far and always come back. They are very smart and curious, and are always very quick to notice I have something tasty:) They are very social creatures though, they have complex relationships in their flock and they mate for life. The mates usually spend a lot of time together and care for each other. And apart of that, they can also spend a lot of time with their friends in the flock as well. Maybe Dough could have a friend in the future?😊
Anyway, sorry for the long comment, I just love talking about pigeons because they are so fascinating, and love that people are starting to appreciate them as pets and not only pests!
what a pretty bird :)
For those who want a Dove or Pigeon as a pet, there's a lot of them in the cities, and most of them always ends up hurted... SPECIALLY with TANGLED PAWS, it's so lethal for them as most of mines are rescued of always the same... Tangled paws. Pigeons that end up loosing several fingers or even the whole paw can't be in the streets bc Pigeons mostly walks for find food, and it's not only tirong but also so painful for them walking with a tangled paw that is already starting to root, they suffer a lot..
A Pigeon when well cared becomes your best comanion ever, they're extremly docile animals and learns extremly fast, specially young ones, so if u want a Pigeon, un can rescue a young one from the streets and he/she will be so happy with you in a few days 💛
Birds have bird feet and not paws.(google it if you don't believe me).
Great comment!

Sorry, i couldn't help but chuckle a little when you opened the box in the cage and it got tall and skinny. That's my dove's body language for "What the f- is this???" towards something unfamiliar, so it was funny to see the reaction here. What a cutie!
I didn't know you could buy one of those. I have a pair that like to peck at my ice plants in the morning. The bird did very well! Maybe you could put up some perches or branches up high. 😅
