    1 minute poached eggs
    1. Always use room temperature water. Measure 1/2 cup of water in a ramekin.
    2. Salt the water.
    3. Carefully break the egg into the ramekin.
    4. Place the ramekin into the microwave and cook for 1 minute. All microwaves are different so start at 45 seconds until you understand how yours will work. Add time in 5 second increments.
    5. Take the ramekin out of the oven and remove the egg with a slotted spoon. If you do not have one, carefully use a fork or a spoon (tilt it to drain the liquid) and place it on a paper towel to drain.
    6. Enjoy on a piece of toast.

Well now, I have done this many times! I boil water in my kettle first, then pour it into a mug, about 2/3 full, Then break an egg into the very hot, but still water, put it into my microwave [850watts] but only for 40 seconds! Any longer and the egg will explode [it has done that to me?!] but I learn FAST!!! Perfect results every time now!! Yea!

Tried it. Works great. Wanted something light for dinner and so had poached eggs. One thing to consider, however. How long does it take to cook 4 of them? After 1 minute, we continued cooking in 30 sec periods. We didn't keep close track, but seemed to take 4 min. You need to serve quickly, though. They continue cooking as long as they are in the water. Still, we have a new favored meal. Thanks . . .

I poach them in a ramekin using a tiny bit of butter or oil. I suppose technically it's not poaching but the results are excellent.
You must first find a ramekin that is right for the microwave. You need to test it to make sure. It's not suitable if after a couple of minutes it's burning hot.
When you've found a suitable vessel, put a small amount of butter in it and heat it on full power for about 45 seconds. You only need enough butter or oil to coat the inside. Don't overdo the butter and think it'll be nicer, you run the risk of the butter overheating and then it will splash. Use as little as you can get away with.Take it out and put your finger underneath. It should be hot but hot enough to touch. Swirl the butter round to coat the inside.
Crack an egg into it. A small egg will need 25 seconds, an extra large 35. This is for counter top eggs, eggs from the fridge will take about 5 seconds longer. Start with that and never give it more than an extra 5 seconds at a time. These timings will be way out if you don't pre-heat your ramekin and be way less predictable. Get in the habit of doing the finger test and knowing your machine.
That's it. It's much softer than a fried egg with a lot of yolk same as an egg poached in water but it'll come out a good shape and not be wet.
They will continue to cook for a minute or so after you've removed them from the oven so if they aren't quite solid enough for you, just wait. They'll slide out if you've managed to cover the inside of the ramekin with butter or oil, if not you'll have to run a knife around the top. The bottom will be fine
It's actually the most reliable way to cook eggs when you've done it a few times . If you always buy the same size eggs and keep them at the same temperature, they will come out exactly how you like them every time.

1 minute was a little too long in my 900 watt microwave....yolk exploded and yes, it was covered with room temp water...after clean up, tried again for 50 seconds....did not explode, yolk presented slightly more hard than I like....48 seconds in a 900 watt microwave with cold water was perfect for me. Thanks for motivating me to try this.

Would the freshness (age) of egg make a difference ?

  • @clarketrevett186
    @clarketrevett186 3 года назад +3

Okay. Unless I missed it what is the setting of the microwave? Most microwaves have a settings feature? 1 to 10, 10 being the highest. Also yolks, at least for me, have a tendency to explode at some point in the process unless it is poked several times with a tooth pick.

Have looked at how to poach egg in a microwave. They tell you one minute or 45 seconds, etc. But I can't find a video where it says what setting do I use. Low, medium or high? What heat setting did you use on this video? May I ask. 😊

Does the egg also have to be at room temperature, or can you take them straight out of the refrigerator?

I use it straight from the fridge and it works just fine. I hope it comes out perfect for you! Thanks!

The water is room temperature but is the egg room temperature? Or can you just take the cold egg out of the fridge then put it in the room temperature water.

A little bit of white vinegar usually goes into the water when making poached eggs. I noticed you don’t use any. I guess it doesn’t make any difference? Usually one would salt the egg after poaching the eggs. You put a little salt in there with it- is there a specific reason or just for flavor? Lastly, you crack the egg right into the water without straining off the runny. It looks like it came out great without even having to do so which is quite different when poaching in a pot. Your thoughts.
I just made poached eggs tonight in the pot-I’m going to do them your way in the microwave next time.

Hello there! I appreciate you stopping by and your message. For these microwaved eggs all you need to do it use room temperature water and add the egg. No vinegar necessary. I add the salt for flavor and it does not break the egg white. Please make sure that the eggs are completely submerged so that you have no issues with them bursting in the oven. I would love to hear how they come out. Thanks again!

So you are going to have to play with your microwave for this. Place both eggs in a larger bowl, covered in room temperature water and start them at 60 seconds. The time will depend on the wattage of your machine. Look at the eggs and continue cooking them 10 seconds at a time until you have the desired consistency. Thank you for stopping by and I hope this works for you!
