I agree, old narrator had more personality. This sounds like one of those generic infographics channels that often get basic info wrong. Previous guy reminded me of Caspian Report.
Throwing in with the majority here on the narrator. He does a fine job but at the loss of an element that distinguished your channel (that Polish accent). Content and background music choice are still good but I do miss the distinct narration that gave your channel a personal touch. I think if you are determined to make a change, why not try a female voice? That would have also distinguished your channel as there are not any channels that I can think of focusing on global affairs voiced by a woman.
I am Czech, and that's my ancestral country (once Vietnamese immigrants from the USSR but left for Czechia). Vietnam is my ancestral country but also a country full of tragedy. I speak four languages and thus I know what's going on to my tragic nation. A country constantly suffered from wars, conquests, and even invasions. We were even suffered from occupation by the French and Japanese in WW2. Even now we still don't know which pathways we should go. Besides, where is the old narrator?

First of all VN is in one of the world's toughest geopolitical spots, being China's neighbor is no fun, like seriously what do some of these people in little saigon want? Be another Ukraine? It is what it is, the real world is just too real sometimes 🤷♂️ But the way things turned out for VN so far 🤞 is probably the least bad option. It's better situation than Korea for example that is still divided in 2...

I usually don't comment but I have to be honest, losing you as a narrator pulls away a large part of the appeal of this channel for me. I really love the content itself but I doubt I'll be as interested going forward.
It was way better narration before. There was something original, special to it. It had character. It was a case with Arnold Schwarzenegger, saying thar they tried to remove his accent in the past, luckily unsuccessfully. That added to his character. Hubert, it would be awesome if you will be back. But if that's impossible due to time constraints, it would be great to find someone with East European accent to keep the authenticity of this channel.
@@Pietroszz The iron curtain sadly still leaves it's mark. The economic inequality between other western nations and former east block nations that still persists comes to mind. Also forty five years of soviet oppression inevitably left a cultural mark. Even the partition of Poland between Austria, Germany and Russia still leaves its mark, if you look at election results, infrastructure, goods production and even indoor toilet availability. Furthermore Poland is on the eastern end of the EU. Most importantly the USA, central and western europe still percieve the former eastern block nations as eastern europe. Perception is a very important metric in politics. One that takes a lot of time to change. That perception may be, if you look at the european continent as a whole, geographically wrong, I agree, but there are a lot of reasons, to classify Poland as an east european country. Edit: Even religiously, as a majority catholic country Poland is the eastern edge of the religions that hail from western Rome, opposed to the orthodox religions from estern Rome.

There is just something with the delivery and tone of the new narrator that I can't get over. The new narrator feels disconnected from the script and almost... generated? I long for Huberts measured cadence and engagement. Bring him back!!
My thoughts exactly. There were moments where you could tell he was reading from a script he had no hand in editing - little quirks of the translation to English that fell just short of what a fluent speaker might write. And his vocal intonations seem better suited to a "Number Things You CAPITALIZED WORD to Verb!" video than a geopolitical essay.
As a Korean, whose country fought against North Vietnam (& also known for being the most effective shock troops in that war (... & the warcrimes...)), I find it morbidly hilarious and cathartic that as soon as the Vietnam War was over, both countries united in hatred for China. lol. Especially for Vietnam. They fought one of the bloodiest and most savage war in human history against the US. And now, 'Nam is turning into one of the US' best strategic allies in Asia to check China's expansion. Even though China bankrolled North Vietnam. Makes you question what the whole fucking war was even about... 🙃

The new narrator is obviously a professional but it makes it sound like just another average youtube channel with no real personality. I would very much like the previous narrator to come back. The polish accent was the soul of this channel.
I'm with the majority. I miss the old voice already. But the new voice is not bad! Quite good actually. But the big appeal for me was the original voice.
Making a video about Vietnam and not mentioning the first island chain and the wests strategy of containing China is pretty surprising. Vietnam is a very important country in that strategy.

I was narrating two channels (Polish one alongside this one), researching, writing, managing a small team, etc., so I just decided to let a professional do this. Been with this channel since day 1 of the Ukraine War. The new narrator is perfect, and in the process has taken away all character that this channel had. There are enough American channels that tell me how the world works. The Polish accent really added to the different perspective that drew me to this channel

I just wanted to let you know that I understand the decision to hire a new narrator, probably to free up some time to explore additional subjects. But just like the rest, I loved our classic one. I really hope we get our favorite one back, at least for more important subjects. Keep up the amazing work you're doing :)
The narration felt AI generated, not because the narrator did a bad job, in fact he was great, but the sudden change from the nerdy polish accent to an american profissional voice actor, surrely made me feel like this
I don't know why but the American makes this sound like every other geopolitics youtuber who makes the videos for views instead of a genuine interest and viewpoint on the subject. It's also interesting having a sort of "neutral" voice like a Pole to talk about some of these big power politics because it feels less partisan. An American voice criticizing the CCP just feels less impactful for some reason.
It’s incredible how Vietnam has faired demographically considering how it was in a state of war/occupation for about 40 years continuously during the 20th century.
Countries were poor people don't have much to do in their free time, tend to have higher reproduction. Countries were a strong middle class arises with many options of entertainment for free time tend to reproduce nominally. As soon as a society gets used to small families, it's hard to backtrack to numerous families. This is my 2 cents ofcourse.
While the presenter does a decent job, the Polish accent has been since the Ukraine war one of the core pillars of this channel providing it with an unique character which sets it apart. I do not believe there would've been as much of a pushback to the new narrator, if said narrator didn't sound like the most generic geopolitics narrator imaginable, as American, British and equivalent true western voices are frankly thrown down many peoples throats by all kinds of American media or those inspired by it, and thus hearing the most generic and most similar sound to that sea of similar sounds makes this sound wrong and unintuitive, where as the Polish accent is what sounds new, fresh and thus distuingishes the channel from the rest. As much as I come to watch these video for their excellent analysis, the sudden shift to a generic sounding narrator who sounds too perfect such that its uncanny instead pushes me away. Thus I conclude my thoughts on my opinion, that the beautiful Polish sounding accent must return for me to keep enjoying this channel as I have for the past years.
Just stumbled upon this channel for the very first time and upon reading the reviews, i noticed alot of people like the old voice so i decided to listen to an older video. Without bias, i have to say your voice is much clearer to understand and easier on the ears vs the old narrator. Not sure why people are hating on you. Dont let them get to you. Keep up the good work
Vietnam is a case of a tragic country, invaded, occupied and razed by different empires... and still survived. Even they dared to invade China once in 1075, to become one of only two nations to be dually occupied in WW2. Unfortunately their politics didn't serve them anyway with their passive neutrality they are having (as opposed to Finland's smart neutrality). By the way I missed the old voice of this channel now. Don't Americanise everything.
This was a terrible overview. It didn't even mention that there were hundreds of thousands of Chinese troops in North Vietnam nor did it mention that South Vietnam fell almost 2 years after the 1973 Paris Peace Accords. That's years after America started their troop withdrawal. It also didn't mention that Vietnam gained full independence and was briefly unified before the Vietnam War nor did it mention that that unification was destroyed by secret talks between the Communist Chinese and France. That comparison of Vietnam to the Taliban taking Afghanistan didn't make any sense. It's like the writer of this piece was sourced by common Vietnam War tropes instead of an actual history book.
When the war in Ukraine started, rhus channel predicted Russia would collapse/go bankrupt in weeks... so much for their "expertise". And on this topic, he just described the situation but didn't really say anything that anyone who hasn't been living in a cave wouldn't know... Like everyone and their uncle is talking about VN nowadays (especially geopolitics and economy, tourism). And yeah, to mention AFG in this video didn't make any sense, although there are some parallels between VN and AFG and the US involvement in those countries, it's hard to get what they wanted to say with it. Also to start with prehistory in an under 20 min video doesn't make sense with VN. But well... Not too many expectation from them 🤷♂️
A North American English accent sounds like a million other shitty RUclips channels -- and it doesnt help that the voice sounds almost generated. The Polish accent gives the impression of a more serious channel with an international perspective. It's time to end this experiment.
I respect that you said "BC" and "AD" but not that you put BCE as the text and left out AD. Not a religious thing, it's an artist thing, the gregorian calendar was an incredible contribution to the world that even in the modern age we've never done better. First up, I am fine with both narrators. Secondly, I don't think the video ever touch on the title of "100M of what Milestone"? Thirdly, I appreciate the history lesson, but the link between the history and the modern Vietnam's situation is not established enough to explain how it affects Viet's geopolitical situation. I am also looking for a more unique take of Vietnam's situation as this video represents nothing more than the mainstream view.
At first i had to double check to see if i was actually watching a good times bad times video. Nothing against this narrator but it jist sounds like anothet video on youtube. REVERT TO YOUR OLD ACCENT! Do not use AI in the narration. The old accent, among many reasons, has the atmosphere of Non-American interest/perspective - a rather non-propagandist sense.
I am divided. I am happy for the channel to be growing and do consider this to be a great narrator. On the other hand, the sparkle of the original accent which drew me to the channel is gone. :/

mate. on behalf of us native english speakers of the kind that are your current audience - we love your voice. we do not give even a fraction of a shit if it sounds like your first language. we have a whole area of our linguistic brains devoted to noticing the choice of words that each different second language *glish makes, and it adds a degree of freedom and expression. nobody born anglo speaks english like eric cantona, for example, partly because nobody listens to him as if it is his first language. what we lack in language skills we somewhat make up for by having a keen ear for how others speak our language. english may be our baby but it has grown into an adult that has no business showing deference to it's parents. Hubert is our guy. you write it, you speak it, we love it. your current audience are not the kind of guys that value 'production value' in the way that a sui generis approach might lead you to believe. (at least i suspect that, but you surely know a lot more about your audience than I) in a simple, visceral, sense, having your voice narrate your words is authentic. having an anglo do so may well cause the unititiated to stay the course, but it may also cause potential loyal viewers of the kind you currently have to click away because they will feel like they are just having more smoke blown up their ass by members of their own tribe. put frankly - many of us are the children of the 'end of history' era, and it is dawning on us that the 'intermarium' people of the same time period, and others that had a more sober end to the cold war than us, have been keeping much closer tabs on reality than we have. most of your content has no particular accent, besides your literal accent of course, but it would be daft to ignore the graphs you are surely looking at and pretend people don't respond to such things. Considering Philippines is a US treaty Ally and is about to Eclipse the population of Japan, and is currently having facing very aggressive PRC behaviour, im surpised there isnt much content about them from this channel and other comparable channels.

people always complain when change comes, there's no way around it - whoever you'd choose the new narrator is good, has clear, steady delivery, appropriate inflections. I'd only try to make it a bit less like the history channel style of narrating, and going for a more laid back approach. and just keep iterating, people will get used to it after a few months. new viewers won't ever care

There was a mistake, there were no "2" Vietnam, it has always been 1. Why? Cuz french colonizers' puppet didn't count as a government when the king abdicated, he already had no power let alone being a representative of Vietnam. The Geneva Treaty 1954 stated that the 17th parallel isn't considered a border of any country, and "south vietnam" didn't exist at that time to sign it. With that being said, "South Vietnam" was never an independent country, but a reactionary forces trying to destabilize Vietnam then let USA use it as a pawn to fight china. Also, North Vietnam forces didn't enter Saigon, those were forces of Vietnamese people living in the southern of Vietnam, they were called, National Liberation Front, to fight the dictatorship and illegitimate regime called "South Vietnam"

My listening experience was impacted by the perfect American accent. Bring the Polish accent back, we need that European spice

Even the partition of Poland between Austria, Germany and Russia still leaves its mark, if you look at election results, infrastructure, goods production and even indoor toilet availability. Furthermore Poland is on the eastern end of the EU.
Most importantly the USA, central and western europe still percieve the former eastern block nations as eastern europe.
Perception is a very important metric in politics. One that takes a lot of time to change. That perception may be, if you look at the european continent as a whole, geographically wrong, I agree, but there are a lot of reasons, to classify Poland as an east european country.

Even religiously, as a majority catholic country Poland is the eastern edge of the religions that hail from western Rome, opposed to the orthodox religions from estern Rome.

The only argument for classifying Poland as "eastern european" is the eastern block one, which as I mentioned before, would also consider Germany to be eastern european, which most people (including you) do not.

There is just something with the delivery and tone of the new narrator that I can't get over. The new narrator feels disconnected from the script and almost... generated? I long for Huberts measured cadence and engagement. Bring him back!!
My thoughts exactly. There were moments where you could tell he was reading from a script he had no hand in editing - little quirks of the translation to English that fell just short of what a fluent speaker might write. And his vocal intonations seem better suited to a "Number Things You CAPITALIZED WORD to Verb!" video than a geopolitical essay.

As a Korean, whose country fought against North Vietnam (& also known for being the most effective shock troops in that war (... & the warcrimes...)), I find it morbidly hilarious and cathartic that as soon as the Vietnam War was over, both countries united in hatred for China. lol.
Especially for Vietnam. They fought one of the bloodiest and most savage war in human history against the US. And now, 'Nam is turning into one of the US' best strategic allies in Asia to check China's expansion. Even though China bankrolled North Vietnam. Makes you question what the whole fucking war was even about... 🙃

I would very much like the previous narrator to come back. The polish accent was the soul of this channel.
I'm with the majority. I miss the old voice already. But the new voice is not bad! Quite good actually. But the big appeal for me was the original voice.

Making a video about Vietnam and not mentioning the first island chain and the wests strategy of containing China is pretty surprising. Vietnam is a very important country in that strategy.

🎙Hey! Hubert here. Most of you are probably wondering why there is a different narrator and why I'm not doing it myself, as was the case until now. So, it is basically a workload delegation issue. I was narrating two channels (Polish one alongside this one), researching, writing, managing a small team, etc., so I just decided to let a professional do this. I might occasionally come back to narrate some episodes :)
Possibly, then some of you will see this as a downgrade, and for some, it may be an upgrade. Certainly, it will be more comprehensible in some sections, as I, as a non-native English speaker, struggled to pronounce it correctly. There is a chance that with Alex's help our pool of potential viewers will widen (my accent might have been repulsing for some newcomers) - but this depends on the quality of the whole production as always.
Still, please remember that the core tasks-researching, writing, and the whole production-remain the same, and we'll try to improve on them.
Please give Alex a warm welcome, as I think he did a very good job with this delivery.
P.S - I think we responded to all the email, but I'd like to thank you all of you who applied for this gig. Some great voices which we had to let go.

WWII weaken these countries homeland and military. That they couldn't afford control over their colonies. Thus beginning of the establishment of United Nation.

Been with this channel since day 1 of the Ukraine War. The new narrator is perfect, and in the process has taken away all character that this channel had. There are enough American channels that tell me how the world works. The Polish accent really added to the different perspective that drew me to this channel

I just wanted to let you know that I understand the decision to hire a new narrator, probably to free up some time to explore additional subjects. But just like the rest, I loved our classic one. I really hope we get our favorite one back, at least for more important subjects. Keep up the amazing work you're doing :)

The narration felt AI generated, not because the narrator did a bad job, in fact he was great, but the sudden change from the nerdy polish accent to an american profissional voice actor, surrely made me feel like this
I don't know why but the American makes this sound like every other geopolitics youtuber who makes the videos for views instead of a genuine interest and viewpoint on the subject. It's also interesting having a sort of "neutral" voice like a Pole to talk about some of these big power politics because it feels less partisan. An American voice criticizing the CCP just feels less impactful for some reason.

It’s incredible how Vietnam has faired demographically considering how it was in a state of war/occupation for about 40 years continuously during the 20th century.
Countries were poor people don't have much to do in their free time, tend to have higher reproduction. Countries were a strong middle class arises with many options of entertainment for free time tend to reproduce nominally.
As soon as a society gets used to small families, it's hard to backtrack to numerous families.
This is my 2 cents ofcourse.

While the presenter does a decent job, the Polish accent has been since the Ukraine war one of the core pillars of this channel providing it with an unique character which sets it apart. I do not believe there would've been as much of a pushback to the new narrator, if said narrator didn't sound like the most generic geopolitics narrator imaginable, as American, British and equivalent true western voices are frankly thrown down many peoples throats by all kinds of American media or those inspired by it, and thus hearing the most generic and most similar sound to that sea of similar sounds makes this sound wrong and unintuitive, where as the Polish accent is what sounds new, fresh and thus distuingishes the channel from the rest.
As much as I come to watch these video for their excellent analysis, the sudden shift to a generic sounding narrator who sounds too perfect such that its uncanny instead pushes me away. Thus I conclude my thoughts on my opinion, that the beautiful Polish sounding accent must return for me to keep enjoying this channel as I have for the past years.

Just stumbled upon this channel for the very first time and upon reading the reviews, i noticed alot of people like the old voice so i decided to listen to an older video. Without bias, i have to say your voice is much clearer to understand and easier on the ears vs the old narrator. Not sure why people are hating on you. Dont let them get to you. Keep up the good work

Vietnam is a case of a tragic country, invaded, occupied and razed by different empires... and still survived. Even they dared to invade China once in 1075, to become one of only two nations to be dually occupied in WW2. Unfortunately their politics didn't serve them anyway with their passive neutrality they are having (as opposed to Finland's smart neutrality).
By the way I missed the old voice of this channel now. Don't Americanise everything.
This was a terrible overview. It didn't even mention that there were hundreds of thousands of Chinese troops in North Vietnam nor did it mention that South Vietnam fell almost 2 years after the 1973 Paris Peace Accords. That's years after America started their troop withdrawal. It also didn't mention that Vietnam gained full independence and was briefly unified before the Vietnam War nor did it mention that that unification was destroyed by secret talks between the Communist Chinese and France. That comparison of Vietnam to the Taliban taking Afghanistan didn't make any sense. It's like the writer of this piece was sourced by common Vietnam War tropes instead of an actual history book.
When the war in Ukraine started, rhus channel predicted Russia would collapse/go bankrupt in weeks... so much for their "expertise".
And on this topic, he just described the situation but didn't really say anything that anyone who hasn't been living in a cave wouldn't know... Like everyone and their uncle is talking about VN nowadays (especially geopolitics and economy, tourism).
And yeah, to mention AFG in this video didn't make any sense, although there are some parallels between VN and AFG and the US involvement in those countries, it's hard to get what they wanted to say with it. Also to start with prehistory in an under 20 min video doesn't make sense with VN.
But well... Not too many expectation from them 🤷♂️

A North American English accent sounds like a million other shitty RUclips channels -- and it doesnt help that the voice sounds almost generated. The Polish accent gives the impression of a more serious channel with an international perspective.
It's time to end this experiment.

Not a religious thing, it's an artist thing, the gregorian calendar was an incredible contribution to the world that even in the modern age we've never done better.

The old accent, among many reasons, has the atmosphere of Non-American interest/perspective - a rather non-propagandist sense.
I am divided. I am happy for the channel to be growing and do consider this to be a great narrator. On the other hand, the sparkle of the original accent which drew me to the channel is gone. :/

mate. on behalf of us native english speakers of the kind that are your current audience - we love your voice. we do not give even a fraction of a shit if it sounds like your first language. we have a whole area of our linguistic brains devoted to noticing the choice of words that each different second language *glish makes, and it adds a degree of freedom and expression. nobody born anglo speaks english like eric cantona, for example, partly because nobody listens to him as if it is his first language. what we lack in language skills we somewhat make up for by having a keen ear for how others speak our language. english may be our baby but it has grown into an adult that has no business showing deference to it's parents.
Hubert is our guy. you write it, you speak it, we love it. your current audience are not the kind of guys that value 'production value' in the way that a sui generis approach might lead you to believe. (at least i suspect that, but you surely know a lot more about your audience than I)
in a simple, visceral, sense, having your voice narrate your words is authentic. having an anglo do so may well cause the unititiated to stay the course, but it may also cause potential loyal viewers of the kind you currently have to click away because they will feel like they are just having more smoke blown up their ass by members of their own tribe. put frankly - many of us are the children of the 'end of history' era, and it is dawning on us that the 'intermarium' people of the same time period, and others that had a more sober end to the cold war than us, have been keeping much closer tabs on reality than we have. most of your content has no particular accent, besides your literal accent of course, but it would be daft to ignore the graphs you are surely looking at and pretend people don't respond to such things.
I may well not have stuck around if I had first heard an Anglo voice, but a Pole with production value and perfectly sufficient english to get the job done well captured my attention and demonstrated skin in the game such that I listened to a minute or two and the content spoke for itself.

Considering Philippines is a US treaty Ally and is about to Eclipse the population of Japan, and is currently having facing very aggressive PRC behaviour, im surpised there isnt much content about them from this channel and other comparable channels.

the new narrator is good, has clear, steady delivery, appropriate inflections. I'd only try to make it a bit less like the history channel style of narrating, and going for a more laid back approach. and just keep iterating, people will get used to it after a few months. new viewers won't ever care

There was a mistake, there were no "2" Vietnam, it has always been 1. Why? Cuz french colonizers' puppet didn't count as a government when the king abdicated, he already had no power let alone being a representative of Vietnam. The Geneva Treaty 1954 stated that the 17th parallel isn't considered a border of any country, and "south vietnam" didn't exist at that time to sign it. With that being said, "South Vietnam" was never an independent country, but a reactionary forces trying to destabilize Vietnam then let USA use it as a pawn to fight china. Also, North Vietnam forces didn't enter Saigon, those were forces of Vietnamese people living in the southern of Vietnam, they were called, National Liberation Front, to fight the dictatorship and illegitimate regime called "South Vietnam"

America was already gone with a peace treaty (the paris peace accords), and the war was officially over. This part of the fighting was a renewal over a year after the war ended. This isn't difficult to access information, but the same lies get spread on this topic constantly. You need better education. I've been watching every video for a couple years now, but I've officially unsubbed and set "do not recommend". If you want to successfully lie to me you'll need to put more effort into it lmfao.
