Bro .. Bro!!! I have been playing by ear for YEARS and at 52 years old, I am too damn stubborn, lazy stubborn to take a class. This has changed everything for me as a song writer. Great video! Just subscribed!
Thank you! Im glad it connected! Im 32 - and I'm already that stubborn LOL
No lie, other than the age, this verbatim was gonna be my comment. Thanks for the great tutorial. The website has a lot of resources but you put it in the terms I needed to hear it in. Have you figured out detect mode yet?
me too!
MG this is tight man! As always you bring some serious absolutes to the table! I will be getting this tomorrow, and so glad you brought up the circle of 5 chart as well. I had one, but not interactive like you pulled up!
Thanks again bro!!
Great to see your name in the update! Love it!
every video you have is a masterclass of its own. I feel like this scaler plugin could accelerate learning how to actually play piano as well. thanks for your hard work man.
We sent MG out to find water, he not only found it he killed the enemy and lead us to the spoils
Damn you're changing music even if you never play a note
Mad respect....
HardKillaz 😂 that's a wild metaphor! Thanks tho 💯🙏
MG The Future I'm just saying you are beyond kind
Thanks for all the knowledge you drop
HardKillaz no problem 🙏
HardKillaz aa
WOW! New subbie for sure! This is going to change everything! I have been struggling to translate what I hear to actual music. I can finally take my music in my own hands instead of waiting or pleading with folks who play to help. Thanks so much! Now I gotta go watch all your vids to see what else I've missed. Blessed Be!
+Jamilah Simmons thanks 🙏💯
Wow man you just have open my eyes and help me out a lot damn good looking Fam I have been trying over 20 years to do this and you just made it easy and for me to understand what I have been trying to learn thank you so much can’t wait to get home and try it out
luster terry here to help 🙏💯
Man scaler so dope it's ridiculous! Even though I can play a bit it really helps you come up with stuff you would normally take a lot longer to come up with. Great vid MG as always!
Thanks man! yeah its useful for remixing known good chords. For me - i like the drag and drop - to experiment with hooks and intros etc
I have watched many videos of producers and beatmakers explaining VST(s) and I have been enjoying yours the most. Thanks for breaking down Serato samples, Scalers, Cableguy vst, and Captain Chords. Blessed!
Thanks!
Seriously Bro! You’ve just changed my life with this tutorial. I downloaded Scaler 3 days ago wondering WTH I was doing...Another VST I don’t need, but man!! You open up my eyes on something that I dreamed of doing 25 years ago...Thank you so much, and God bless.
No problem! 🙏
I love how chill and natural MG is compared to many youtube producers high on affect, gimmicks and drama.
This is one of the best RUclips videos I’ve seen in a while. Great stuff. I just subscribed!
I Am Write Jus 🙏🙏🙏
Ey MG! I Really Appriciate you Man. I like your videos and your mindset behind why your doing what you're doing. I wish you the Best Man.
I really appreciate the time you take to go into the depth of working with this. I've spent my entire life in music and am just blown away by how good the tools keep getting. Love your videos. .
No problem, and thanks 🙏 I’m glad they connect
another one bro. you really hackin' them things man. that melodyne videos really changed my work flow thank you.
No problem! 🙏
i did everything you did when i first caught wind of this in a ad i seen earlier.
thank you for this video
Great video! Thanks for showing me the features of it. Just getting into it.
MG - your presentations are inspirational, much appreciated and thanks.
Pete
This Sir, is indeed a god send! I can see the possibilities this opens up. Much appreciated!
No problem 🙏
Dope video! Very in-depth on the features & building advanced chords. Appreciate this man! Most likely I'm getting this plugin as well to add to the arsenal. Peace bro, def subbed!
Appreciate you
Yo! Thanks for this video, very helpful. I have been playing by ear and just purchased scaler, this vid is a game changer for sure. Well done.
Yo my man!!! That was a dope tut! That plugin is somethin seious. For guys like us who are'nt that piano savvy, this opens the door to professional sounding capabilities! I've been using FL for years and you showed me something i have'nt known until now about the articulation modes. Thanks my dude!
Yeah its a powerful helper indeed. The FL piano roll tools are typically covered in different contexts. As far as i know - I'm the only one that i use them that way (until now). LOL - but the rest of them add different options too. When i stop being lazy - imma just make my own "score files" for "known good" articulations for the ARP or Other Features. FL even has a "generator" thats very powerful...i just gotta sit down and commit to it. In theory, you can save all your Scaler chord progressions as midi / score files - and let FL's generator "flip" it for you.
You're awesome, you're someone who serves others and brings value to people.
Wow.. this has to be the dopest vst I've ever seen for people trying to piece together music theory, they've laid out everything in one interface. Out of the many times you've explained the circle of fifths chart I believe I finally understand it now, thanks for keep going back to it. I think you should do more scaler videos not just "how to" but actually applying it to creating songs, it seems there are many techniques/variations of what this can do.
DJ Chosen One 🙏🙏🙏 will do
Best review/tutorial of this plugin I've seen! Thanks for taking time to do this.
Appreciate it 🙏
Thank you for the video. Really great overview and to the point!
I recently bought the Komplete Kontrol 25 (on sale right now, btw). Not for its chord features or "easy mode" but as a general master keyboard, its bundled software and for learning(seeing) scales. That light-guide already elevated my skills by 100% as i was only going by ear for years - Now i stumble over this piece of software and your video and .... just wow! This gonna help me writing so freaking much. Great stuff!
🙏🙏
Seriously thanks for this bro. If you’ve been making beats then you know this pretty much brings a feeling comparable to “the kid in the candy store” FL piano roll is just bonkers
MG The Future....WOW.... Thank you so much for this Video....I bought Scaler after watching one of your earlier Vids. but this one explains a creative workflow for writing chords that is simply amazing !!! I'll probably stay in the house all summer just writing music !!!
🙌🏾🙏
MG, this is another awesome tutorial! Thank you for all the "Major Keys"!
Thanks! I see what you did there
Wow I really have to use this plugin more, Thanks for the Video 🙏🏾
10:53 - found Gmin 7/9 and did purchase this plugin and it helps tremendously. It will help unblock writer's block!!! Thanks MG The Future
Ok, i see what you mean vs captain and that first half progression is on point. Instant inspiration! I'm already singing to it LOL
Yeah imma do the comparison video and show how you can leverage both
Thank you brother! Great content, very insightful
This is amazing.. Thanx for sharing and for the effort.. Keep up the good work..
I appreciate it 💯
Hey, I needed to tell you, I really enjoyed this tutorial. It was really helpful. I now really have a great idea how to use Scaler and you really spelled it out so well, clearly and all the way into the hooktheory site! Great job!! I don't leave public comments very much, bot you definitely deserve ti!!! Thank you!!!
Very welcome 🙏
I like your style of explanining. And especially that you show this in the context of FL Studio! Most VST reviews anchor on Ableton Live.
Very comprehensive bro. Well done. This plugin is a must have.
Appreciate it!
Just got this and came across your video after looking tutorials other than the official ones. superb video bud, definitely one of the best out there. I've been making music for nearly 30 years and self taught for the most part but this has brought a new side to my music. I have basic music theory as i took music at school but this has added to that. Don't listen to those telling you to learn theory. This is educational and will teach you.
Appreciate you!
Yeah the wolf is running the scales for epic 🐺 Ness! MGTF you tha big 🐺 man. Never thought about having my own chord library
Yeah Chord Libraries would speed up things tremendous
Nice tips man, I just got scaler on sale yesterday, using it with bitwig which I think also doesn't have the routing. The 6\4 means it's in second inversion with the G note on the bottom. But you probably figured this out by now haha. That's old school notation from bachs day.
Thanks MG. This is gonna be in a lot of people's arsenals!
IamVenVile 👀🎹🙏
Sick man! This was a revolution to my workflow, 5 stars for this VST. Time saver and you sound like a theory nerd musician haha!
I'm just a music hacker at heart 🙏
Wow dude glad I've found your channel. I was just a little lost on the music theory talk but you explain things very well
Appreciate you 🙏
Super-great presentation! Subscribed.
Man, you've inspired me to download this plug...thanks...great video!
Thanks 🙏
Thank you for the video. Well done. Very helpful!
Watched, ordered , playing with it right now .. very cool
It's lit 🔥
Thx MG . Keep them coming my brother
Kls Productions 👋🙏🙏
Really cool man. Thanks for breaking it down....
that detect and then chord variations.... all the possibilities. CRAZY
osricb1234 Muy 👀🎹🔑
Could anyone tell me how can I get this to work in machine studio. I scanned for the plugin but it’s not showing up when I scan for it.
Man bro this review was pretty helpful. Dope content man. Just sub’d 💯
Thanks 🙏
great video, i learnt so much from this. thank you
ifightdaily ifightdaily 🙏🙏🙏
still doing research on melody plugins.
I'm not feeling "easy" with this one as I did with Captain.
Hmm...
I fuckin love your tuts bro! Everytime you laugh it gets me laughing. Im supporting ya ass with a subscrption and a thumbs up! Thanks bro ♥️
Best demo & explanations I have found, Thank you ,
Thank you 💯
MG very well explained helped in the deciding factor of which to choose from? Am sure with this type of knowledge it's just a matter of TIME.
Thanks for checking it out
Great reveal on something I've been wondering about getting since Christmas. (I just might!) I really liked how open you were about your thinking and what you showed. Thanks a ton.
You seemed to be thrown by chords that showed up as iii6/4 in Don't Kill My Vibe. Here's the secret - the 6/4 is telling you how to spell the inversion of the chord, it has both a 6th and a 4th above the root note of the chord. So the iii6/4 (in the key of Ab Major) would be C minor with a G in the bass position. There's a little more to it than that, but that should help you wrap your head around it when you see it and get you where you wanna go. (Took me forever to figure out that it wasn't some crazy 6sus4 chord or something!)
Wow. Thank you - What you put in Parenthesis is exactly what I was dealing with. Now I have to make sense of what THAT means...LOL (why they change Root notes and chord positioning). Luckily i can do that "intuitively" more so than logically with Piano Roll. STILL...would be a good day once i can translate it into "musician speak".
Picture each note in a chord as a person singing one note. Now make it easy on them, don't make the next note they have to sing be very far away from the one they are singing...that's usually how to think about it. Each "voice" of a chord should only move 2 or 3 notes distance up or down at a time. Try a I - IV in C... C-E-G to F-A-C right? If you use the first inversion for the F chord ( C-F-A ), then the dude singing the C in the first chord keeps singing the same note and the other two make small moves ( E to F and G to A ). Make sense? The rules came from church singing before anything else and just got applied to other instruments cause they already made sense. Now if you bump into a choir director you can see what they do and get some insights there too.
(Sorry for preachin, just tryin to spread the knowledge!)
Werzel d'Amage no..thats super valuable and makes common sense. Thats exactly why i use piano roll to invert keys.
My Captain Chords video shows that captain can do this by default. Thats crazy.
You're a genius lol. I need to watch this video 8 or 9 times to soak it all in lol.
Plug In Boutique needs to hire you to do the tutorials. Way more interesting and relatable than those cinematic soundscape score tutorials they provide.
Man I’m going to make beats all day off this bro lol. I bought the plugin but this tutorial really shows me how I can get busy with it.
Bro !! Bro !!!! This is DOPE !! Thanks a ton to make my decision easy :)
🙏🙏🙏
This was super bridge game. Thanks again for breaking that down.
Time to walk over water
Hey bro that 6/4 thing is the second inversion of the chord. just add fifth note octave below as a bass note and you'll have the mirror.
Great vid learned something! Thanks
:D :D :D man this is so awesome. now i got better idea how to use this vst. thak you a lot this is really inspiring :)
As a Jazz Musician thinking about Popular Music... I Can Say this is a Awesome piece of Technology....Yet it will Distort the Bridge Between Real Music and Conceptual Music.... POP MUSIC IS ABOUT SIMPLICITY..... Chords are practically irrelevant to today's Pop Music appeal as pop music is about surprise over time and the ability to hold attention...Using less chords but being able to create continued excitement is the new wave.....*BRUNO MARS* See if you're Gonna Truly understand the scales and modes you have may have to get in-tuned with an instrument and the emotions it creates from a analog (not digital) perspective...when you play the actual guitar you can sense that you don't need much at times to create a vibe... in the digital world you have to tweak and this tweaking consumes time and stifles creativity....... and Also most importantly Understand MELODY AND PERFORMANCE... Machines can only do so much... the ability to create emotions over personality; a machine can't Do.
so I feel this VST is gonna have us programming the music instead of creating the music.. as a music Producer beats just have to be felt... not knowing theory is often a blessing.. yet having theory helps to keep a guideline...From an artist and listener we don' t care abut the theory when we hear a track ... we mostly hear the passion and emotion behind it...
Maybe I'm old fashion but I learned that SONGWRITING is EVERYTHING
and the Producer brings the Song to Fruition
Adding ezkeys changes all of this...check that vid out. It adds back in, what you suggest is missing. As it allows you to have a session player, virtually, to any chords you choose in scaler or else.
For me, I understand what you mean...like cold or sterile performances. But I never use this on the surface, im always hacking it.
For me, technology is there, as long as you combine the right parts.
You are the MANNNNNN for this bro!!.. THANK YOU!!
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for this mad luv bro!!!
Love the video and vst
So much gems wow. Thanks for the energy bred.
Hey so do you think you could give AutoTonic a look? its a little different but a monster I've been practicing with for about a year now. With your knowledge and experience I could really figure out how to better use it.
Nice one man, I'll be buying this for logic pro x. Thanks for the video mate, newly subbed and liked man. cheers
scroez cvk appreciate you 🙏🙏🙏
Great vid fam...subscribed!!!
🙏🙏🙏
Ooooh man! Because of owning a similar utility, I slept on this during the intro sale. I was mistaken to do so. The remedy will come on payday 😅 Thanks for an insightful review 🙏👊
😂💯🙏
Got your chord book volume 1. Looking to expand my ez keys midi library by adding splice midi :0 hehe. I got captains but haven’t used in awhile... I’ve mostly been extracting melody or writing my own and captain is pretty limited with their chord selection. Just came off a good session creating and was like damn this shit should be illegal. Half time on some ez keys loops dropped to serato... still can’t believe this shit haha. Any new must haves ? I’ve been looking at stylenth or omni. Any good budget synths you’d recommend ?
MG FROM DA FUTURRRRRRE! I just got the demo and have been looking at videos. I had instachord but I feel this is a better step forward. The only thing instachord has on this is the ability to individually play the notes from each chord. If Scaler had this as well you could do some stupidly good plucks, whole chords, delayed chords, basslines etc. all in one go
Always good to have both ...I use em for different tasks
Great content as usual!! MG I was wondering if you could also review or compare Captain Chords ( mixed in key) to scaler. I have been watching both and would like to know your take. If you dont have time for video any chance you get to respond is also cool. Thx
mrmcsolo captain chords? I'll research it
This is a must buy for me
Great video man - thanks very much
Welcome!
How to use this plugin in MPC 2.X?
How do you sync Scaler with FL Studio? For some reason i cannot transpose the midi from the plugin to a VST and it doesn’t detect anything when i play chords
Using the midi out of scaler, set to port 1, and then the midi in of your VSTi Set to port 1
i hear that aggravation and relate to it...you have put me on to multiple tools that makes shit that i struggled with for years a breeze. It's kinda cruel and unfair...I take it as a sign that it's time to take it up a few notches because comfort ability is right around the corner...
True Enough.
So the 6 over 4 is an indication of inversion. I recommend reading Hook Theory as they explain it well there. Scaler doesn't seem to display inversions that way so you kinda have to know a bit about inversions. Great video!
Thanks, I'll peep that. For now I'm just going kamikaze 😂
Bro you are the man thanks so much MG kpee it on
Thank you bro!
I'm two years late but I picked up Scaler today! This was very helpful thank you.
Bout to cop too!
Check out version 2 coming of Scaler! It is AMAZING
Hi can you play singular notes for a specific scale rather than the chords it suggests? Basically works like the autotonic plugin? A toggle for on/off chord mode? thanks
Yes
Tell PluginBoutique you want your cut of the sales commission. I bought this after watching the video and it is absolutely worth it.
🙏
Smh 🤦🏾♂️ 2018 is def gonna be my resurrection.. this is crazy.. part of the reason i took a break from beats was I couldn’t get out what I was hearing in my head becuz of technology issues.. bridges are essential and and this plugin makes it so easy.. this is a top 3 gem mg.. thank u so much..... I don’t think people are understanding the bridge capabilities with this.. I’m gonna kill this with using samples and implementing the Kanye sample hack u taught us with key changing.. might have to do another vid to wake cats up 😂
Yeah man, this and Serato...scary times when people figure it out and push
MG The Future exactly
which vid you talking bout Kanye sample hack
i cant play a lick but this and serato i'm coming for those big names if i can just find the time
DjGETZBEATS ruclips.net/video/fDDmPizOCfk/видео.html
wow man this has seriously changed da game! thanks for real
No problem!
Im glad you got the plugin. How can you do that strum effect in ableton.
Ableton and the rest of them are "working on it"
Thank you for your insight bro
🙏🙏🙏
MG - I bought this on a deal over Xmas but haven't used it yet. This is a great practical example. Thank you. Have you checked Plugin Boutique's Radio plugin? It's pretty cool too for sampling. Best wishes from Bristol. Time to save some Bill Evans chord sets!
Honestly, I don't hear about a new plugin until people ask me about them - LOL! Thanks for checking me out! 🙏🙏🙏 And Bill Evans? Aye...gotta check him out
Just what I've been looking for. #Perfect
Hi MG , i liked your video earlier but i skipped it .... because i guess it was too long , honestly speaking im into producing all sorts of music " EDM / Hiphop / Pop ...etc " and i have to say ... even being exposed to music production for 14 years and knowing the scales .. key .. harmonies ... diminished , sus .... your sort of dissected the chord names dilemma , and the cryptic I II IV VII i've always seen on sites and never understood and you attracted me more to scaler , thank you very much for sharing all of this information " a strong player exposes his cards for everybody to see " i hope i'm as strong and dedicated as you , stay positive and keep up the good work , Peace :)
🙏🙏🙏
awesome tutorial man
Thanks💯
I'm sure you've answered this question before- What's better Captain Chords or Scaler? I want to use either or as tools to create further. Thanks
Sup, I haven't. I don't treat them the same, neither is better... i.e. Spoon vs Knife
Thank you for this, however are you familiar with this capability as built in Cubase Pro 9.5?
Yes. Thats a running joke..in later vids
Yooo.... what software do you use to capture your screen for Live youtube sessions? Peace...
FUCKING HEAT. I'm still gonna work on my piano and sight reading just because I love playing. But I digress, this is incredible. Thanks again MG
Yeah I use this with Reason players to see the notes as my progression is triggered, so I can play new parts along 🙏
@33:24 I feel the same way about all these chord/scale tools. When I messed around with music production back in 2007 without any training I just had no clue and got hopeless when randomly messing with keys didn't work. Now all these resources are just spilling all over the place.
Curtis Turner yeah, we need workflows for workflows
