    6/4 IS THE INVERSION or order of notes from top to bottom. since G is the new bass note the E, or 3rd becomes a 6th above the G and the C becomes a 4th above the G, hence iii 6/4

    • @MGTheFuture
      @MGTheFuture  6 лет назад

      Yeah its a powerful helper indeed. The FL piano roll tools are typically covered in different contexts. As far as i know - I'm the only one that i use them that way (until now). LOL - but the rest of them add different options too. When i stop being lazy - imma just make my own "score files" for "known good" articulations for the ARP or Other Features. FL even has a "generator" thats very powerful...i just gotta sit down and commit to it. In theory, you can save all your Scaler chord progressions as midi / score files - and let FL's generator "flip" it for you.

    Great reveal on something I've been wondering about getting since Christmas. (I just might!) I really liked how open you were about your thinking and what you showed. Thanks a ton.
    You seemed to be thrown by chords that showed up as iii6/4 in Don't Kill My Vibe. Here's the secret - the 6/4 is telling you how to spell the inversion of the chord, it has both a 6th and a 4th above the root note of the chord. So the iii6/4 (in the key of Ab Major) would be C minor with a G in the bass position. There's a little more to it than that, but that should help you wrap your head around it when you see it and get you where you wanna go. (Took me forever to figure out that it wasn't some crazy 6sus4 chord or something!)

    • @MGTheFuture
      @MGTheFuture  6 лет назад

      Wow. Thank you - What you put in Parenthesis is exactly what I was dealing with. Now I have to make sense of what THAT means...LOL (why they change Root notes and chord positioning). Luckily i can do that "intuitively" more so than logically with Piano Roll. STILL...would be a good day once i can translate it into "musician speak".

    • @werzeldamage4014
      @werzeldamage4014 6 лет назад +1

      Picture each note in a chord as a person singing one note. Now make it easy on them, don't make the next note they have to sing be very far away from the one they are singing...that's usually how to think about it. Each "voice" of a chord should only move 2 or 3 notes distance up or down at a time. Try a I - IV in C... C-E-G to F-A-C right? If you use the first inversion for the F chord ( C-F-A ), then the dude singing the C in the first chord keeps singing the same note and the other two make small moves ( E to F and G to A ). Make sense? The rules came from church singing before anything else and just got applied to other instruments cause they already made sense. Now if you bump into a choir director you can see what they do and get some insights there too.
      (Sorry for preachin, just tryin to spread the knowledge!)

    • @MGTheFuture
      @MGTheFuture  6 лет назад

      Werzel d'Amage no..thats super valuable and makes common sense. Thats exactly why i use piano roll to invert keys.
      My Captain Chords video shows that captain can do this by default. Thats crazy.

The only thing instachord has on this is the ability to individually play the notes from each chord. If Scaler had this as well you could do some stupidly good plucks, whole chords, delayed chords, basslines etc. all in one go

    oh yeah, wanted to ask scaler vs. melodic flow vs. ableton midi chords etc. why not just use ableton midi tools (scale / chords together)? probably scaler is quicker i know. and whats the differences between melodic flow and scaler? if you chose one, which one and why? maybe you could do a video about it.

    • @MGTheFuture
      @MGTheFuture  6 лет назад

      You make up stuff with Ableton (As I do). Scaler helps you analyze existing stuff. Melodic Flow just assists in creating the rest of the parts.

  • @kpcurt
    @kpcurt 6 лет назад +1

    Hi. I bought this back on black Friday when I was gearing up. I had high expectations but this doesn't sit in my workflow well at all. It's most likely because I don't have a very trained ear. It all starts to sound the same to me. If I used Ableton and I routed the MIDI to a VST it might be more useful. I try to use Scaler about once a week but it hasn't caught for me.
    In reason, the chords and scale player is really hitting the right balance for my skill level. Bang some progressions on the keys. Record Automate the switches to give that color or that low.... I've never even needed to send the midi to track to really start moving around like that....
    When I get into the large chords I just lose all orientation. But I'm going to keep opening it up once a week to see if I've gotten good enough to use it.
    1 Thing that I have successfully used it for is making batches of MIDI files for resources later.

      @MGTheFuture  6 лет назад +1

      Bro you are more than welcome! I went ahead and copped InstaChord last night. That God Mode video is actually how I found you. Its dope but I'm still used to Scaler. InstaChord also seems to lag a bit. Can't tell if I like Pick mode or Fret mode better. I used it in Logic Pro X. Peace! Keep grinding. You got a new sub here bro.

    Hey MG? Have you figured out a way to use Cthulhu in reason ?

    • @MGTheFuture
      @MGTheFuture  4 года назад +1

      No sir. Reason a vst now tho...can just use another daw to support both

    • @abravo8306
      @abravo8306 4 года назад

      MG The Future so I’m sure you know this already, but although you can’t get the midi data out from Cthulhu you can use patchwork’s to route it through whatever VSTi you prefer and if you want the chords you can just manually add each note after. Slows the workflow but still possible to use it in Reason. Cthulhu is definitely a cheat code.

    Smh 🤦🏾‍♂️ 2018 is def gonna be my resurrection.. this is crazy.. part of the reason i took a break from beats was I couldn’t get out what I was hearing in my head becuz of technology issues.. bridges are essential and and this plugin makes it so easy.. this is a top 3 gem mg.. thank u so much..... I don’t think people are understanding the bridge capabilities with this.. I’m gonna kill this with using samples and implementing the Kanye sample hack u taught us with key changing.. might have to do another vid to wake cats up 😂

      You can use the inversion button to create inversions. 6/4 Just means the chord is in 2nd inversion (the note are arranged in a different order). For ex. If the chord is Cmaj it would be C E G. In first inversion that would be E G C (C 6) E is now the root with a 6th above the bass. In second inversion it would be G C E (C 6/4) G is now the root and there is a 6th and a 4th above the bass.

      I'm not trying to find the key of the song. Im just trying to identify the chords. I though i saw you do that with a sample in one video. You figure out the chords in the sample by running it through some plugin. Then you did your own thing with the chords.
