Today's video is about W.A. Production's Instachord. A utility that allows you to create chord progressions, with useful articulations and play styles.
My favorite part about it is the price! And the fact that I can use it to replace my previous "God Mode" setup.
With some basic chord theory and simple routing, you can complete composed beats in minutes!

W.A Production, you need to have MG's statement put up on Pluginboutique. Cause although I got the plugin a few days ago, the current displayed descriptions didn't really say much to me.

Great review! I too bought the plugin because of the price and proposed features. I love what it does. I really love the new update, now that takes the cake. Instachord to is just producer's magic. There is no other way to explain it.

Old video, so you prob. know by now, but that Minor Modal Interchange in the list you saw, is a useful trick in chord progressions where, say writing a song in the Key of C, instead of the normal set of chords in the key, you substitute an occasional chord from it's Minor Scale counterpart: C Minor.
They call it the parallel minor, because it starts on the same note, C.
Or, vice versa, if writing in C Minor, you can sub or add in a chord from C Major. You can also go deeper with this concept by using the Modes (which to think of most simply, are using any given scale, by starting to spell out the scale by starting on a different note of the scale and playing the notes up through the octave of that note. Like playing from D to D in C Major scale; it gives you a unique arrangement of the whole and half steps, and you build chords the same way, by using "play a note, skip a note, play a note, skip a note, play a note" of the new scale we built upon D, again, using the tones of the C Major scale.)
So, with this, you can fire up Scaler, get in your songwriting key, say C Major, but while building your progression, decide you want some spice, and switch to the chords of the C Minor scale, and see if you can fit one of them into the progression cleverly... which songwriters have been doing since way before the Beatles and Beach Boys.
Here's a good video that shows some great examples. Spending a little time with this concept would make you crazy good at writing awesome progressions, and unique melodies behind them, as he explains how to deal with melodies crossing through these chords.
    ruclips.net/video/1dRA28cdt5c/видео.html
In fact, the Scaler guys should modify the tool to let you do Modal Interchange, by letting you toggle some button on screen, and then offer up all the chords that he shows at 1:58:
    ruclips.net/video/1dRA28cdt5c/видео.html
THAT would truly put Scaler into GOD MODE for writing progressions! Which would suggest GOD ASSIST mode, whereby, for any chord you play, it color chords all the other chords by which would be either commonly used, or harmonically tasteful!
Been meaning to pass this on the Scaler guys...
Anyway, Just a good way to add some spice in a chord progression, and achieve that all important surprise.
    Ciao!

Man MG, I copped this off the break because I didn't have any chord making vst's and I thought the strumming would be cool but after copping it I realized it did everything you could ask for and the interface is not so intimidating after a little play time. I still needed a lil clarity on it and hoped you would do a tutorial but figured after Captain Chords you would pass on it,knew you wouldn't let Me down.lol Thanks MG this is the type of inspiration I needed.

@@MGTheFuture I've watched several of your other videos and it has been really cool to see some of your work flow and the tools you use and how you use them. Im a busy professional and creating music is just a hobby, so time spent on it is at a premium for me. Getting somewhere quickly with ideas is what I'm after, instead of just relying on samples to fill voids. You've opened my eyes on how I can use tools I have already own in a new way. So again ..thank you!

Brah, from about 3:20 on this was one of the BEST, most productive & useful videos I've seen in a while. If ONLY it were still $15. The $49 Scaler 2 deal might nudge this one out (for now). Still like the guitar & piano strumming styles and especially the voices this tools seems to offer. THANK YOU for the excellent overview.

The plugin needs more atriculations. Maybe an arpeggiator that plays as you hold a key, and an arpeggiator that plays as you press the key (note by note). Also a single key midi pass via - you assign a midi note to a key so other vst's can use particular triggers (in this case Strum GS2 articulations, like palm muffle, could be played using instachord).

FYI, interchange just means changing between different keys. That kind of preset is nice because most of the *interesting* music I like doesn't stick to just the same old four chords. There are often chords from outside the key, aka "modal interchange".

Your outward enthusiasm not only confirms your inner passion for music, it is a CRYSTAL clear indication of the gratitude for these innovations which enhance the love you have for your purpose. Your thankful joy was repeated EVERY time it dawned on you that you were in possession of this software. Your spirit reminded me of a few important reasons we ALL should do the same., and it did so in a COMPLETELY non-confrontational way, which is the best way to do so AT LEAST 99.999% of the time. LOL
    1. Not everything is cool. The stuff that IS cool DESERVES a big reaction. :)
    2. Not everyone has this yet. If you do, then CELEBRATE your good fortune! (If it's NOT worth celebrating, it's NOT worth getting it in the FIRST place. If you already have it yet are not celebrating, then give/trade/sell it to someone who WILL be celebrating once they have it!)
    3. Once upon a time, NO ONE had this. Every day a piece of technology comes along which removes obstacles and eliminates time-wasting busywork is a GREAT day. Whenever something arrives on the scene which makes things easier, that means ALL THOSE YEARS from the very beginning of HUMANITY ITSELF which we spent doing those things the old harder way are FINALLY over. That ALSO deserves a big reaction.
Those who view the vast majority of struggle and sacrifice as magical/romantic are doing so through VERY psychologically distorted lenses. Those who view the vast majority of struggle and sacrifice have NEVER experienced enough of either. Those of us who have stepped in a pile of shit do NOT look back longingly at that "good ol' pile o' shit day". We would have been MUCH happier had we been able to avoid the pile of shit, to have "missed out" on all the "character" we received by soiling our shoes with manure. Sorry, but there is NOTHING magical/romantic about stepping in a pile of shit.
Put simply, shit IS shit, while better IS better!
Look, I grew up in Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park (my father was an electrician employed by the NPS). I KNOW what the harder way is, and there was NOTHING cool about driving HOURS each week in order to get to my guitar lesson in Bozeman. Skype ALONE would have been killer. Just IMAGINE how much time, $$$, fuel, and physical/mental effort spent traveling through those snow-covered mountains could have been saved.
Yes, of COURSE you do the best with what you have at the time. Otherwise, nothing would get done because we'd all just be sitting around waiting for dreamware. However, NO good comes from being afraid to leave the past behind FOREVER. Those who can't embrace the idea that TODAY is the best (followed VERY closely by the future) end up sounding like:
    1. The pathetic sad sack on [FaceBook/Quora/your phone] who continues to pine away for his ex-girlfriend who has LONG since moved on.
    2. A boring and bitterly complacent Grandpa Simpson crank who goes around annoying everyone with opinions which are as untrue as they are unsolicited: "Back in MY day, we had REAL music/TV/movies/games/blahblahwhatever!"
    3. That deluded girl who wears dresses straight out of every movie based on any Jane Austen novel in the vain hope that a time-traveling English aristocrat will whisk her away to an era where her mousiness and lack of personal hygiene won't be barriers to achieving her romance novel cover dreams.
As a boy, I WAS eager for things to change, to catch up to what my mind knew was possible but weren't happening yet, but I was ALSO grateful for the minds which had freed me from the existence experienced by earlier generations. Even then I was pretty aware of how truly AWFUL it must have been to make that same trip 100 years earlier on foot or in a horse-drawn wagon instead of stretching out in the back seat of my dad's car singing along to the music of the radio whilst zipping along at 60mph on paved roads. UGH!!!
The past is DEAD, and I for one am OVERJOYED to dance on its grave. Long live the future of TODAY! :)
Your closing remarks (beginning at 14.59) seem to allude to the principles of connection summarized as the Law of Attraction, a term coined by author Rhonda Byrne in her popular book "The Secret". Are you familiar?

I gave you a standing ovation for every time you said Bruh lol:) 😂😂
We are on the same page definitely!
I would not have discovered this plugin without discovering Cableguys after seeing you use HalfTime within multiple videos.
A big part of everyone's process is that we believe that we are saving our time by quickly writing something off because it is not being demoed in our DAE or genres of choice and still fail to see the relationships between different tools and resources.
As a result, our blind spots multiply and we are still frustrated by not being to create what we believe that we are capable of.
Even this plugin has enough jukes to throw anyone off while the pure gold is found when it becomes known that InstaChord is very likely to lead us to creating music within an infinite number of genres which will remove beat block from becoming a possibility and that we have nothing to fear in anything seen or unseen on the horizon.
Kudos and you pushed InstaChord beyond its limits when you started creating lead parts:)
Thanks W.A. Productions for staying in the game beyond whatever trials and obstacles before this moment!
The other plugins are likely to have benefits that we have been looking for as well!

I can't seem to get used to holding one key and playing with another, is there no way to just lock all chords to hit all 6 keys so I can play without holding a key in another octave?

This is an incredible review. I picked this up because of your pointers here. Any chance you'd take this further and do another one regarding this? Or do you have like a mini course on it? By the way, it's easier to purchase this directly from W. A. Production.

Hey MG, diggin your music theory plugin reviews. I'm looking to combine the chord detection and selection ease of use found in Scaler with the playability of Instachords. I've been using a tool I made called AllChords for chord selection on the Push with Kameleono - a vst which allows you to sequence your chords using a midi clip - your route in the chord and sequence the notes in your midi clip. So its great for sequencing your chord picking but not as good for pickings chords as you play them. Wondering if you have found an option that combines both.

My first look: Bought it yesterday cause it was so cheap, but i was pretty bummed at how it works. It occupies 4 octaves (2 chord, 1 strums, 1 single notes) and i only have a 2 octave keyboard (25) which i usually get by with. So not only i have to program every chord by selecting from a massive dropdown window (without auditioning) - i also have to program the actions and/or rearrange them so i can use them simultanously on a smaller keyboard. - Every time. Just had one session with it, and i might come up with a preset for half of that "setup", but it ain't as direct as Scalar where you just drop it in and fool around.

What do you think? Should I: A)Buy up a few hun worth plugins for my garageband?OrB) Buy LogicProX?Any input on my dilemma is welcome. Thanks for this review. I bought this plugin, last night based on the price and how much it was lauded by others. Having issues launching it... Sigh

My main DAW is ableton live, I'm biased. And thank you for checking this out. Make sure with launch and tech issues - always email the DEV - they are great about support.

Thank you for the get back. I was on Ableton from ‘05-‘13... Until my ex smashed my pc tower and the email addy that I signed in on is defunct . I bought a mac book pro and have been working on the garageband app. There are definitely limits to the GB DAW. Since you replied to my comment, I have been reaching out to techies to see if my Ableton can be recovered... Problem is, it is going to cost a couple hun and Ableton said it may be difficult, if not impossible to move my account over. So fuck it, bought LogicProX yesterday. Just thought you should know I jumped into action on the strength of your reply... Thanks MG

What do you think about integrating Maschine with Ableton? I feel that it's a long process just to make beats...But Maschine systems is complicated especially whenever pitch and time are being affected.

MG The Future lol that’s the goal...but the step to do that is ridiculous and too long...do you have a video? That can possibly help! Cause I really want to transition too ableton, while at the same ignoring unnecessary Info!

I have an ableton live playlist. But ive used ableton before maschine...always treated them separate.
Ones a daw..the other a groove box. Either or takes years of mastery.
      The sooner the better
