i was born in Port Glasgow but moved to America when i was 7. I grew up here in California but my mum was a wonderful cook and made tons of Scottish recipes. We lost my mum to cancer over 10 years ago and i did not get any of her recipes before she died. Your page has brought me back and i made some lovely sausage rolls last weekend. My dad was pleased. just wanted to say thank you or Ta.
I want to thank you for your incredible recipes! I'm American, my husband is Scottish. We've grown up with such different recipes. I like to make comfort foods, and didn't have a clue how to make traditional Scottish meals. You've made it so easy for me to recreate his favorite recipes his Mom would make 💜
These are fantastic. I’ve made them umpteen times. I made them again for tea on Tuesday past. There are only the 2 of us so I use half your recipe quantities. We can eke these out to do our tea as well as a lunch, so they’re very economical. We serve them with triple cooked chips and baked beans for tea and on their own for lunch. I don’t bother sautéing the onions. I forgot once and didn’t think it made any difference, so now save myself time not having to clean a pan! Also I just use parsley instead of sage and prosciutto instead of Parma ham. In our house using Shortcrust pastry in this recipe is better than puffed (and cheaper to buy/ easier to make too). After baking and cooling they freeze beautifully. Nom nom nom
I was sat wondering what to do for tea to have with potato gratin I made to use up a bag of potatoes! Your sausage roll recipe popped up while I was watching something else. I had all the ingredients in the house, made them, and cheered our family of 6 up tremendously. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe x
This recipe came up on my feed recently and decided to give them a try. Just got them out of the oven and wow they’re amazing. Much better than any I’ve ever bought including some very expensive well know brands. Definitely be making these again. I’ve saved the recipe. Thank you Cheryl
I made these for my teenage kids and they were a big hit! I was worried because they are very different and my kids are picky. I used mild Italian sweet sausage (we don't seem to have as many sausage choices here in the US.) This is definitely going on our dinner menu rotation!
I found these especially nice given that I'm not allowed to eat sausage rolls. I made two small batches - one as per recipe and one with some pork and black pudding mix from our butcher. Acquired taste, but nice for a change. Not healthy eating, I know, but at 76 and apparently at high risk, I really have only one real fear left - lying in a hospital bed and thinking "For god's sake - I might as well have had those sausage rolls!" 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Another great video Cheryl. For the ultimate (Scottish) sausage roll, I mix a little tinned (or packaged) haggis with the sausage meat, then fold in some small chunks (1cm) of black pudding. You won't need any (yukky) English herbs. Possibly, you could skip the cheese and parma too. The smell and the taste of these sausage rolls will surely make you reach for a dram to wash it all down. Och aye!!! I can hear the pipes calling.
I made several batches of these over Xmas and new year 2020. An excellent recipe, easy and my children devoured them. I prefer without the cheese. Great and thanks
Fantastic! Simple, practical, easy to follow.. and dammed delicious!!! , i didnt use the parma ham but inc., chopped cooked rashers to mix. My Kids, wife n family were raving over it today. I am king of my kitchen, at least until tomorrow . Thanks lass
Those look delish! When I visited Edinburgh last ( actually I was there last year at this time) I would get these for a quick "breccy" before seeing the sites. Oh how I miss that city
Parma ham on the inside pastry roll, never thought of that - brilliant, going to try that this weekend. Love your vids, just discovered them :) Also love your Scotch pies, attempting them too over the next couple of weeks.... always been a favourite of mine!
Greetings from East Los Angeles, CA in the U.S.! Just tried your recipe, my family loved it. I cut them thin and made a salsa and rice and they were the perfect! Gracias!
The sausage rolls looked delicious....I think this would be something I would enjoy. Easy to half the recipe too since I live alone. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe and I hope you get rid of the cold real soon. Have a Blessed day.
If we were still having cocktail parties, these would be great for that. Definitely putting these on my wishful to do list. Stay well and thanks for your cheerful self.
Almost a year on since trying your recipe. In that time I’ve learned how to make authentic French puff pastry ( with 3.5 lbs of glorious butter) and started searching/making the “best’ homemade sausage. I’ve tried, English, German, Italian, Thai. They all are wonderful in their own ways. But I always combine them with your ingredient list to assemble these delicious treasures. The outcome is always the same- a beautiful, crispy, savoury treat. I heartily agree with you that the Parma ham is essential. I’m also a big fan of using an old cheddar for these (whatever is your favourite). These are so popular that friends and neighbours have also started mixing their own sausage and making their own puff pastry. Thank you for this recipe. It’s really quite lovely. The balance of flavours and textures is simply wonderful. ❤️🇨🇦
someone recommended this channel to me and i came across this video and decided to make them for iftar using beef and the result was amazing 🙌🏽 the family loved them and they were so delicious, even had them with mash and beans as you did! thanks for the recipe!
In all my 64 years Ive never made a sausage roll lol. Found your recipe and thought what have I got to lose so made them. Just taken them out the over and they look brilliant cant wait for my husband to come home from work to see what they taste like lol I told him Ive got a surprise for his tea something Ive never made before lol
Hi Cheryl, lovin your recipes and the family are too. You always have a positive spin on everything. One of my favourites is the caramel apple crumble, thank you for keeping it simple so much appreciated. 😃👍
I finally got around to making these and WOW , I had them on my to try list and i'm so glad i did . As always , i find it so easy to follow your methods of cooking and baking . Thank you once again for helping me to treat my taste buds.
Hi there. We did this last night using the short crust pastry you recommended. They were lovely. We couldn't get Parma ham so found some prosciutto with black truffle in Tesco. Didn't know they were so posh! They came our brilliantly. Only mistake is my wife cut them in 4 rather than 6 so couldn't finish all of hers, too much. I have just finished it, cold straight from the fridge for lunch with a cup of tea and believe me, just as tasty! Love your "do it the easy way" approach! Next one will be cheese, onion & potato pies.
Happy Holidays from Raleigh NC/USA Fixed the corned beef and potato recipe and it was enjoyed by myself, husband and sister. Enough for leftovers for all. I so enjoy your vlogs although I am not a cook but if recipe is easy i will give it a go and so many of yours are. I have been to Scotland but not your side of the country. Hope to explore more in years to come. Gloria
They look magic! I would have to roll the pastry out thinner so that I could make more right enough becuase eight would be gone before any guests arrived!
Cheryl, I hear my Irish grandmother's brogue, and kind manner in each utterance; she's been gone since '94, but oh, did I smile! For the benefit of my Canadian brethren and myself, would you, when time and health allows??, please say: "bless your heart, but either keep grating cabbage, or go outside, we'll all be better for it" "if you walk over storing, bring a stone's flour and a flat of eggs, we're low, and due for a smile and a rice pudding" "the bees are in for the evening, now go and start pulling petals, we'll do rose jelly" Again. my did I enjoy this! Should you come to Pennsylvania, please spend a few nights at the small motel which I operate [in retirement], you'll enjoy grocery shopping at the Shady Maple, nearby, and we'll cookout on the tandoor.

Thank you so much for showing how you make your sausage rolls, I really like shortcrust pastry sausage rolls but I have never seen them in the shops. Hope your cold goes soon, take care Cheryl. Love from Franx
I just made these and they were out of this world. They were none left for the day after so I will have to make another batch to test them cold. Thanks so much! Hope you feel better soon! 👍

Brilliant, Very easy to follow cooking instructions, you take your time to explain each process. Going to try making the Mince Round today, fingers crossed it turns out as good as yours. Really do miss the taste of home.

Yummmmmy! Looks delightful, Cheryl! Going to try these for sure! Thank you once again for another great recipe! Your landscape is beautiful! You are adorable! Stay as sweet as you are!!! Blessings to you and family!!!
Oh, these look so good! Hello from across the pond... I grew up in the Deep South of the U.S. in a town that was settled a long time back mostly by Scots (I grew up in the part of town called 'Saint Andrew's'), and a lot of Scottish-style cooking came over with them. This reminds me of something my Grandmama Jo would make when I was little-- they were smaller than yours but much the same, except that I don't think she used ham in hers. So I'll have to try them out; thank you kindly for the recipe! And I hope your cold gets better.
That looked super easy. I expected this to be a much more complicated and fiddly recipe. They look delicious!! 😋😋 A cooking tip: You can substirute sausage meat in place of ground meat in a lot of recipes. A couple weeks ago, I wanted to make spaghetti sauce but had no ground beef or turkey, but I did have some sausages in the freezer. I thawed them out and used the meat in the sauce, and it was delicious.
Terri MacKay yup.. a cpl of weeks ago when food reserves were down due to us being in isolation and unwell I made a tomato pasta and added in Linda McCartney Rosemary and herb veggie sausages chopped up.. was very nice and we are meat eaters
Cheryl I'm an exiled Scot living in Canada and I just love your videos and attempting to follow some of your recipes this sausage rolls one is great.I think I'll have to try it soon J.R.
I realized when you used the Parma Ham (Prosciutto over here) you were only one step away, 2 actually from Beef Wellington. So I ditched the cheese and added the mushroom duxelle. OMG. You have raised the humble sausage roll to truly a gourmet experience. Store bought sausage rolls are now out of the question. Thanks for the inspiration. Love your videos. (My mum used to make regular sausage rolls. I'm an old 1960s Easterhouse boy now in Canada 55 years)
For got to say :) around the 7:30 mark...score the tops before baking. Not essential, but looks pretty x
Delicious....💖they are quite generous
They look fab. Have a great weekend. And a hug for yasper.
Definitely my kind of sausage rolls.

They freeze well, if you do the full recipe. Snacks in the freezer are like money in the bank.
This would be a nice thing to make for one. 👌 tbh you would be enjoying this with all of us not just yourself 😂
Thanks as I was just about to ask if these could be frozen! Am assuming before glazting and cooking?

They look scrumptious so yummy😊👍
handy tip, the paper the puff pastry comes in, is grease proof paper good for the oven.
They look magic! I would have to roll the pastry out thinner so that I could make more right enough becuase eight would be gone before any guests arrived!

Will definitely make this recipe! Thanks Cheryl. So love your calming Scottish accent💕

Looks tasty. You may want to do something with the beans. I suggest sautéed onions, crispy chopped bacon and crumbled sausage meat. Used baked beans.
I just made these and they were out of this world.
They were none left for the day after so I will have to make another batch to test them cold.
Thanks so much! Hope you feel better soon! 👍
