- Hello folks!
Welcome back to What’s For Tea :) So today I made sausage rolls!
These are relatively quick to make since you’re using pre-made pastry…feel free to make your own, but with everything that’s going on in the world just now, you may find it easier to find ready made pastry than everything you’ll need to make it from scratch.
I know in this country, flour is pretty hard to find. But because you’re not spending half the day making your own puff pastry….you’ll have time to spend a little extra time on your filling :) which to me, is the most important part!
Everything I used will be mentioned below incase you want to make it for yourself. Thanks for stopping by,
-Cheryl x

What I used - Makes 6 large sausage rolls
500g (17.6oz) Sausage meat
1/2 red onion - finely diced
1 Teaspoon dried sage or 4-5 sage leaves, finely chopped
1 Teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
320g (11.2oz) ready rolled puff pastry sheet
5 slices of parma ham
50g (1.7oz) grated cheddar cheese
salt & pepper to season
1 egg, beaten to glaze or a little milk
Handful of dried breadcrumbs (optional)

i was born in Port Glasgow but moved to America when i was 7. I grew up here in California but my mum was a wonderful cook and made tons of Scottish recipes. We lost my mum to cancer over 10 years ago and i did not get any of her recipes before she died. Your page has brought me back and i made some lovely sausage rolls last weekend. My dad was pleased.
just wanted to say thank you or Ta.
Where in California. Used to go to my Auntie Annie’s Brightside Avenue Port Glasgow
I want to thank you for your incredible recipes! I'm American, my husband is Scottish. We've grown up with such different recipes. I like to make comfort foods, and didn't have a clue how to make traditional Scottish meals. You've made it so easy for me to recreate his favorite recipes his Mom would make 💜
Sage and onion stuffing mix can be used instead of breadcrumbs ( just a suggestion) but yours look absolutely delicious 😋❤️
I was sat wondering what to do for tea to have with potato gratin I made to use up a bag of potatoes!
Your sausage roll recipe popped up while I was watching something else. I had all the ingredients in the house, made them, and cheered our family of 6 up tremendously.
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe x
These are fantastic. I’ve made them umpteen times. I made them again for tea on Tuesday past. There are only the 2 of us so I use half your recipe quantities. We can eke these out to do our tea as well as a lunch, so they’re very economical. We serve them with triple cooked chips and baked beans for tea and on their own for lunch. I don’t bother sautéing the onions. I forgot once and didn’t think it made any difference, so now save myself time not having to clean a pan! Also I just use parsley instead of sage and prosciutto instead of Parma ham. In our house using Shortcrust pastry in this recipe is better than puffed (and cheaper to buy/ easier to make too). After baking and cooling they freeze beautifully. Nom nom nom
I found these especially nice given that I'm not allowed to eat sausage rolls.
I made two small batches - one as per recipe and one with some pork and black pudding mix from our butcher. Acquired taste, but nice for a change.
Not healthy eating, I know, but at 76 and apparently at high risk, I really have only one real fear left - lying in a hospital bed and thinking "For god's sake - I might as well have had those sausage rolls!" 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Good for you! My mom and grandma always said eat everything and anything you like in moderation!
This recipe came up on my feed recently and decided to give them a try. Just got them out of the oven and wow they’re amazing. Much better than any I’ve ever bought including some very expensive well know brands. Definitely be making these again. I’ve saved the recipe. Thank you Cheryl
I made these for my teenage kids and they were a big hit! I was worried because they are very different and my kids are picky. I used mild Italian sweet sausage (we don't seem to have as many sausage choices here in the US.) This is definitely going on our dinner menu rotation!
Oh Yes! Us Australians love Sausage Rolls I can’t wait to make your recipe! Thank you for sharing and stay well xx
Ohh yeah c,Mon.. 🤤🤤
I could listen to you all day. I got into cooking in the lockdown, found it quite therapeutic.
Parma ham on the inside pastry roll, never thought of that - brilliant, going to try that this weekend. Love your vids, just discovered them :) Also love your Scotch pies, attempting them too over the next couple of weeks.... always been a favourite of mine!
Those look delish! When I visited Edinburgh last ( actually I was there last year at this time) I would get these for a quick "breccy" before seeing the sites. Oh how I miss that city
If we were still having cocktail parties, these would be great for that. Definitely putting these on my wishful to do list. Stay well and thanks for your cheerful self.
Greetings from East Los Angeles, CA in the U.S.! Just tried your recipe, my family loved it. I cut them thin and made a salsa and rice and they were the perfect! Gracias!
when i want to eat happy .. i always go back to your ideas.. thanks.
someone recommended this channel to me and i came across this video and decided to make them for iftar using beef and the result was amazing 🙌🏽 the family loved them and they were so delicious, even had them with mash and beans as you did! thanks for the recipe!
hello Ms. Tea; quite glad to visit...can't tell ya how calming a visit is.. I'm getting a little addicted to your spot
I came, I saw, I made and the family went bonkers (For more)
Cheryl, I hear my Irish grandmother's brogue, and kind manner in each utterance; she's been gone since '94, but oh, did I smile!
For the benefit of my Canadian brethren and myself, would you, when time and health allows??, please say:
"bless your heart, but either keep grating cabbage, or go outside, we'll all be better for it"
"if you walk over storing, bring a stone's flour and a flat of eggs, we're low, and due for a smile and a rice pudding"
"the bees are in for the evening, now go and start pulling petals, we'll do rose jelly"
Again. my did I enjoy this!
Should you come to Pennsylvania, please spend a few nights at the small motel which I operate [in retirement], you'll enjoy grocery shopping at the Shady Maple, nearby, and we'll cookout on the tandoor.
Hi there! I’ll read your comment out tomorrow at the end of my meals of the week video 😊 x
Love it!!♥️🌈xx
AMstationengineer - What's the name of your motel? We're in PA, about an hour from Shady Maple. From time to time my wife like to get away for an evening or two. 😊
We're beginng a reconstruct soon, to be "as aseptic as possible", I was an avionics engineer for Boeing, and just completed the design of a UV total room treatment. I ran the dayshift for twelve years, next to Stoudt's Microbrewery, and the Black Angus. The Black Forest Inn; good ratings until a competitor paid someone to post untrue stories, then blackmail to remove posts; our business is strong because we enjoy an 80% return customer rate, see what autumn brings.
We decided to keep the trashed internet presence, to avoid the spammers and blackmailers. As of this moment, we're 75% occupied, and not accepting guests until a 'health stable population' is again, the norm. Where are you from??
The accent is Scottish.
The sausage rolls looked delicious....I think this would be something I would enjoy. Easy to half the recipe too since I live alone. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe and I hope you get rid of the cold real soon. Have a Blessed day.
They freeze well, if you do the full recipe. Snacks in the freezer are like money in the bank.
This would be a nice thing to make for one. 👌 tbh you would be enjoying this with all of us not just yourself 😂
Thanks as I was just about to ask if these could be frozen! Am assuming before glazting and cooking?
You made an English sausage stuffing there with the sage and onion and breadcrumbs. Love your recipes by the way, all the best in these crazy times.
I made several batches of these over Xmas and new year 2020.
An excellent recipe, easy and my children devoured them. I prefer without the cheese. Great and thanks
You're a delight to listen to and you're recipes are down to earth good wholesome food, foods that we all know and love around Scotland.
I couldn't believe how well my sausage rolls turned out my kids loved them ❤️ Amazing taste... Thank you
Fantastic! Simple, practical, easy to follow.. and dammed delicious!!! , i didnt use the parma ham but inc., chopped cooked rashers to mix. My
Kids, wife n family were raving over it today.
I am king of my kitchen, at least until tomorrow . Thanks lass
Hi Cheryl, these sausage rolls look delicious will be giving them ago. Thanks for sharing.
Hi there. We did this last night using the short crust pastry you recommended. They were lovely. We couldn't get Parma ham so found some prosciutto with black truffle in Tesco. Didn't know they were so posh! They came our brilliantly. Only mistake is my wife cut them in 4 rather than 6 so couldn't finish all of hers, too much. I have just finished it, cold straight from the fridge for lunch with a cup of tea and believe me, just as tasty! Love your "do it the easy way" approach! Next one will be cheese, onion & potato pies.
Brilliant and now I am so hungry. It was an easy recipe to follow. I am so going to try this. Thank you so much. Do take care of yourself, I love watching your videos here in New Zealand. All the best...zane.
The Other Half is salivating so much I'll need to get the mop out. They do look lovely, though!
Lol! I know that look!
Happy Holidays from Raleigh NC/USA Fixed the corned beef and potato recipe and it was enjoyed by myself, husband and sister. Enough for leftovers for all. I so enjoy your vlogs although I am not a cook but if recipe is easy i will give it a go and so many of yours are. I have been to Scotland but not your side of the country. Hope to explore more in years to come. Gloria
Almost a year on since trying your recipe. In that time I’ve learned how to make authentic French puff pastry ( with 3.5 lbs of glorious butter) and started searching/making the “best’ homemade sausage. I’ve tried, English, German, Italian, Thai. They all are wonderful in their own ways. But I always combine them with your ingredient list to assemble these delicious treasures. The outcome is always the same- a beautiful, crispy, savoury treat. I heartily agree with you that the Parma ham is essential. I’m also a big fan of using an old cheddar for these (whatever is your favourite).
These are so popular that friends and neighbours have also started mixing their own sausage and making their own puff pastry. Thank you for this recipe. It’s really quite lovely. The balance of flavours and textures is simply wonderful. ❤️🇨🇦
These look amazing will be trying these if I can get hold of the ingredients thank you for sharing hope your feeling better soon x
I’m from Australia , I love you accent and your cooking , thank you
I looked at a lot of sausage roll videos and recipes and ended up trying yours. OMG. They were delicious. Thank you for sharing.
Cheryl they look delicious. I’m going to try these next. I can’t wait! I hope you feel better. So glad it’s nothing more than a common cold. PS - I made you’re Creamy Chicken Pie recipe with the latticework top crust. It was a hit! I double it and made two. I‘ll email you a picture if you post your email address. Many thanks from Pembroke Pines, Florida USA!
I finally got around to making these and WOW , I had them on my to try list and i'm so glad i did . As always , i find it so easy to follow your methods of cooking and baking . Thank you once again for helping me to treat my taste buds.
Today i made this recipe for lunch and it was quite tasty 🙂. Thank you for introducing me to this recipe.
I stumbled across this video by chance, and I’m so happy I did. These are the best sausage rolls I’ve ever tasted! Hats off to the chef! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
First time watching any of you’re videos and I get one with a dish I absolutely love! Living in California I prepare the sausage meat the same way but I use packaged crescent roll dough. They’re always a hit whenever I make them but it’s a tradition in our house to serve them on New Year’s Eve.
I like to dip them in brown sauce (like I had them the first time) but I can’t always find it. When I can’t, I make up a dipping sauce of spicy salsa and apricot preserve.
I LOVE YOU. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL AND I LOVE YOUR RECIPES! God bless you my dear and thank you for sharing these recipes as I crave for from across the pond. xoxo 💖💖💖💖
The sausage rolls look delicious, mash and beans is a must and Thank you, for sharing Cheryl, and a big thumbs up from me :-)
Hi Cheryl, lovin your recipes and the family are too. You always have a positive spin on everything. One of my favourites is the caramel apple crumble, thank you for keeping it simple so much appreciated. 😃👍
I just love how you use what you have. No puff pastry? No problem.
Thank you so much for showing how you make your sausage rolls, I really like shortcrust pastry sausage rolls but I have never seen them in the shops. Hope your cold goes soon, take care Cheryl. Love from Franx
Oh my word, thankyou for sharing this, looks sooo delicious. Glad I found your channel. Watching from Perth, Australia.
I just made these and they were out of this world.
They were none left for the day after so I will have to make another batch to test them cold.
Thanks so much! Hope you feel better soon! 👍
I just made your recipe for cottage pies yesterday. They came out awesome! So, I subscribed today.... I only wish I could have made them for my father. He loved this kind of food. He was Scottish on his fathers side, my grandpa.

Yet again another gorgeous meal, there’s just something about you that can make an old phone book look good with shoe polish drizzled over the top😋🤪
Will definitely make this recipe! Thanks Cheryl. So love your calming Scottish accent💕

Hi from England. I love these good wholesome recipes. So similar to many of my old mum's favourites. She was a Lincolnshire girl and believed in good rib sticking meals! I will comment as we follow each of your recipes. Thanks.
Omg! So excited. Been waiting for this one!! Looks amazing! Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
I watched this after dinner, or else I'd want to make it today. Great recipe. Take care of yourself dear🌹🌹🌹, you do sound so congested 😕 Thanks for still putting up a vlog.
Watched this when you first posted this and thought i must try theses for Christmas and in the blink of an eye its November!! no frozen sausage rolls this year as theses look absolutely delicious xx
I have just now subscribed. Obviously, living in the French Alps, I do cook in a different way.
Your recipes are easy to follow and very tasty.
It is that I find good cooking is about getting the best ingrediants and making them taste good.
My friends were astounded by your sausage rolls.
To avoid the long expainations, I told them they were the last croissant fashion from Paris.
If anyone from the village subscribes, my Chef reputation is sunk. Best wishes.
They look magic! I would have to roll the pastry out thinner so that I could make more right enough becuase eight would be gone before any guests arrived!
In all my 64 years Ive never made a sausage roll lol. Found your recipe and thought what have I got to lose so made them. Just taken them out the over and they look brilliant cant wait for my husband to come home from work to see what they taste like lol I told him Ive got a surprise for his tea something Ive never made before lol
I'm not sure if the accent, watching you playing with a sausage or just the delicious food did it for me but thank you :)
Stumbled across your video, l am from Scotland so l am in Florida, great job.
Cheryl I'm an exiled Scot living in Canada and I just love your videos and attempting to follow some of your recipes this sausage rolls one is great.I think I'll have to try it soon J.R.

Brilliant, Very easy to follow cooking instructions, you take your time to explain each process. Going to try making the Mince Round today, fingers crossed it turns out as good as yours. Really do miss the taste of home.
Yummy just delishes. I put apple in my sausages rolls. Be safe. Thank you for sharing your vlog from Michelle in Australia
Apple in it sounds divine! Will definitely try that!
TheAuntieBa thank you it’s really yummy
Down under on the farm in Australia I make sausage balls with lb regular and lb. maple flavored sausage and diced apples add 2 cups of bisquick baking mix and 1 cup cheese ( or as desired ). These never last 10 mins when put out ! If it’s easier just add Apple, cheese, maple sausage to regular way you make sausage balls ! They are delicious ! Freeze well !
Oh, these look so good! Hello from across the pond... I grew up in the Deep South of the U.S. in a town that was settled a long time back mostly by Scots (I grew up in the part of town called 'Saint Andrew's'), and a lot of Scottish-style cooking came over with them. This reminds me of something my Grandmama Jo would make when I was little-- they were smaller than yours but much the same, except that I don't think she used ham in hers. So I'll have to try them out; thank you kindly for the recipe! And I hope your cold gets better.
I realized when you used the Parma Ham (Prosciutto over here) you were only one step away, 2 actually from Beef Wellington. So I ditched the cheese and added the mushroom duxelle. OMG. You have raised the humble sausage roll to truly a gourmet experience. Store bought sausage rolls are now out of the question. Thanks for the inspiration. Love your videos. (My mum used to make regular sausage rolls. I'm an old 1960s Easterhouse boy now in Canada 55 years)
Thank you so much for sharing this with us all. They certainly were very very special indeed....I’m making some today, but without the ham and with grated apple, and they are really really fantastic too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Hello from Aspen Colorado! I left Dundee when I was 2 been back 8 times, I miss the hill walking! Your Recipes are smashin!
I’m from Dundee too. Been in Los Angeles for 60 years. Lost count on the times I’ve been back..
They look delicious and easy to make. I love the addition of the prosciutto - looking forward to making these.
Hello from Canada 🦋
Looks very tasty. Delighted to see you served with beans. That was one of my childhood favourite dishes 😀 Actually will make this dish with the help of my children. They will enjoy helping and eating I'm sure. Thanks Cheryl, keep well
Another great video Cheryl. For the ultimate (Scottish) sausage roll, I mix a little tinned (or packaged) haggis with the sausage meat, then fold in some small chunks (1cm) of black pudding. You won't need any (yukky) English herbs. Possibly, you could skip the cheese and parma too. The smell and the taste of these sausage rolls will surely make you reach for a dram to wash it all down. Och aye!!! I can hear the pipes calling.
Fancy being so uneducated, you think sage is English.
Yummmmmy! Looks delightful, Cheryl! Going to try these for sure! Thank you once again for another great recipe! Your landscape is beautiful! You are adorable! Stay as sweet as you are!!! Blessings to you and family!!!
Your sausage rolls look absolutely delicious!!!!
Cheryl you have caught me hungry enough to eat all of these, pass them over pronto.
Aaww Cheryl, definately another must-try from your wonderful wee channel! I’ve been making quite a lot of your recepies lately and we’re really fond of the chicken pie. Such an easy yet comforting meal. And our friends keep asking when I’ll invite them back for cullen skink, they’d never heard of it but absolutely loved it. A big foodie cyber-hug from ma wee danish kitchen to ye. Stay safe and healthy 💕🙏
Yummy! And delicious and scrumptious. You are an excellent cook!👍👌😊
How exciting!! I'm going to make this. I make my own sausage, but lately it's been rough finding good farm meat. So I will try this with store bought stuff. Looks fun
You're just lovely. So glad I found you. Much love from Owego, NewYork.
Thank you for the recipe. I didn’t have some of the ingredients, so I made some American biscuit dough instead of using the puff pastry and it turned out really good despite everything. Thank you again.
We made these tonight and they are amazing!! Very hard to eat only two!! We love the herbs - particularly the sage, which we grow but rarely use. Thank you for the recipe!
handy tip, the paper the puff pastry comes in, is grease proof paper good for the oven.
I can see these as supper on a cold day, with onion or tomato soup. Wonderful!
Looks lovely!
Great recipe as always! We hope you feel better soon.
Looks delicious! My mouth watered while watching this... Gonna try this tonight!
Tried this earlier in the week, absolutely lovely, easy to follow (I'm a learner !) recipe. I used very thin rashers I had handy instead of ham, fabulous result, another triumph - keep the recipes coming !!!
I made these last night and they were SO good!! Thank you for the recipe!!
Really enjoyed watching going to try these, hope you feel better soon
There amazing. Family loved them
Wow..........drooling... ! There huge !
Delish!! I liked the Oz version but it was a bit dry...these look much more juicy! I’ll make these if we get sausage back at some point-or I’ll just save ur recipe til that day comes...finally got to make ur battered fish and it was delish!! I used my air fryer, but honestly everything is better in an actual oil deep fryer 🤷🏼♀️😂
Just made this and was amazing keep the recipes coming
I love your recipes and your friendliness. Your voice is very soothing as well. Beautiful accent😊😊😊
That looked super easy. I expected this to be a much more complicated and fiddly recipe. They look delicious!! 😋😋
A cooking tip: You can substirute sausage meat in place of ground meat in a lot of recipes. A couple weeks ago, I wanted to make spaghetti sauce but had no ground beef or turkey, but I did have some sausages in the freezer. I thawed them out and used the meat in the sauce, and it was delicious.
Terri MacKay yup.. a cpl of weeks ago when food reserves were down due to us being in isolation and unwell I made a tomato pasta and added in Linda McCartney Rosemary and herb veggie sausages chopped up.. was very nice and we are meat eaters
Wow, that's a naughty sausage roll. Loving the addition of the parma ham and cheese
They look scrumptious so yummy😊👍
