Sharpeye "Storms Twin Turbo" Surfboard Review Ep 133
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2024
- In this episode, Noel Salas reviews the new Sharpeye "Storms Twin Turbo." He begins talking with world-famous surfboard shaper Marcio Zouvi. Macio began designing this board for speed. It initially started as a twin fin, but he added the 3rd fin box, so you can add a thruster or stabilizer for more stability and drive. The outline offers a little more width in the nose area compared to the original prototype Noel rode a couple years ago. The new E3 EPS/Epoxy carbon layup offers more pop and projection in smaller waves. Noel rides the Twin Turbo with his Pivot Twin Plus Trailer (stabilizer), HP Twins, and his MS-N (Neutral) Thruster fins. The channel design adds a spicy feel, while the bottom contours stay the same. Mario rides his 5'8 Twin Turbo with the MR's and the Mick Fanning Twins. The wave range varies from a little over head high and below. Noel's friend Asa Cascavilla loved it as a twin fin and preferred it with the HP Twins. It rode great in the pool and in overhead surf -- A favorite for sure! Enjoy!!

Noel thank you for your service here on RUclips but more importantly thank you for you ........
Two legends together! boom!
Noel
Storms tt or rnf96 which is more fun to you and why? 🤙🏾
I had the twin turbo (only a twin fin) and it was so hard to ride. My home break is a windy (10-25mph), fat, slopey, weak wave with hardly any wall. 2-5 ft faces/peaks. Didn’t have any get up and go speed. No drive outside the pocket. Felt like the board had a hand break when I went to the shoulder. Lost all speed when doing a cut back and trying to make it over a flat section. Is the new version that much better??
Epic review! Thank you. I’ve been using your HP twins in my Flat Earth, Fishbeard and my Album Sunstone. Best fins I’ve used. Question - do you think you’ll do a review on the Lost Micks Tape? Looks like a really fun one and curious to hear your take on it.
I asked for that board but the folks at Lost said nothing. Sorry
Noel it is good to see other surfers on the boards -good call- It looked like you two where gonna wrestle for the next session on this board LOL
Hey Noel! Since Turbo Twin and Uber Twin are both 2 plus trailer and both have been favorite boards for you how do you compare them? How would you choose one over the other? Thanks!
Hi Noel love your videos! Im going to Indo for a couple of months and looking to buy a new HPSB. I dont want a step up, but something that works good for barrels and turns alike, in overhead waves. Im between the Driver 3.0, the Ghost or the Two Happy. Any recommendations? Cheers!
Driver 3.0 would be my HPSB choice
Fuck man, you're RIPPING. Every time I catch a sesh and surf like a robot, I'm like, well, just gettin old. No biggie. Then I see you drop another review blasting the fuck off and want to switch to fishing or some other shit
Cheers for the kind words. Still pushing myself to get better.
50 yo Love me twins , bang in center tooth...Blam..Great stuff
Hi Noel! Thanks for all your reviews. It makes me want every board from them😂. I was wondering if u have had the chance to try the Inferno FT. I was thinking about it for kind of waist to overhead surf. Right now my "most conditions" board is the Chilli BV2 and I like it, but since it's supposed to be for smaller days... Thanks for your help!❤
I like the Inferno F.T… fun board but it has a bit of rocker so it’s best in 3-6+ surf
Great review Noel! I have a 5'9 SE Storms and am looking to compliment it with a 5'7 groveler, either a SE Twin Turbo or a CI Rocket Wide or a CI Twin. How would you say the SE Twin Turbo compares in ease of getting on rail with the CI Rocket Wide and CI Twin? You didn't seem to have any problem with putting the TT on rail, but wondering if it felt like a focused effort to get it to engage the rail for a bottom turn compared to these other boards. Thanks for your advice.
I like the TR way better compared to those other boards you’re thinking about. The TT would be first choice out of those boards
Hey Noel thanks again for the recommendations for my buddy. I had one more question for my Schroff twin. I’ve ridden it twice now in small mushy waves here in NJ using the Rasta +1 but as a twin. Im not used to riding a twin but I noticed that it’s moving kinda slow and dragging a little . It might just be me but I was wondering what would you recommend for a straight twin set of fins that would feel faster and a little looser? They feel kinda sluggish and sticky if that makes sense. Should I use smaller twin fins? Kinda confused hoping you can help. Thank you Scott
It really depends on how far back the fin boxes are. If the board is not sliding out with the Rasta Twins then it could be the flex of those fins flexing out when you push on them.
I recommend stiffer construction for twin fin sets like fiberglass or Carbon.
I highly recommend my Pivot Twins… they are made with G10 fiberglass
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks Noel I’ll give them a look. Appreciate your input and time as always. Thanks again. Have you given the slater fins a try and compared them to yours yet?
Wow !! Next level twin fin surfing !
Hey coach , amazing job , nailed it again!
How would you compare the twin turbo to the rnf 96 ?
And which board would grovel better ?
More rail line on the TT do to it being longer with a performance outline.
The 96 is a fishy hybrid board… they really don’t surf anything a like.
For Groveling I personally prefer a board with a performance outline for tighter arcing turns in tight transitions. The TT Carrie’s more speed
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you so much for your reply, amazing support and for your help ! Really appreciate it ! 🙌🏽🌟
@@surfnshowreviews7777 I’ve been going back and forth between this board and the chilli peppa twin.
@@stevehills5753 I've been eyeing up the Peppa Twin too. Would be great to get a comparison.
Hey Noel, do you prefer the twin fin performance in the OG twin turbo or the latest version even though the fin placement is different???
I prefer the Prototype model purely as a Twin fin.
Hey Joel, which do you prefer... Twin Turbo or RNF 96? And why?
Hello.
For this board do you recommend a pivot or neutral thurster fins?
Which Futures twins+trailer set do you recommend for ride in 3-5ft waves?
(In Portugal I can´t receive/buy your fins)...
Thank you.
As a Thruster I suggest Neutral template.
Twin + Trailer in Futures…. T1
I’ve been eyeing a BV2 for 2-5ft. How does the TT compare for every day conditions in that range?
Great comparison… I like the TT better… it’s more versatile with fin options and offers more performance in the pocket
When running it as a pure twin Could you notice any performance difference with the slightly changed fin box positions ?
Yes, the board is looser and can feel like it will slide out with smaller twin fins. My HP Twins offer maximum hold and drive, with excellent pivot
Yay
Hey Noel, quick two questions: 1) are the fins available for shipping to europe/portugal? 2) Do you think the twin + trailer would benefit the CI G-Skate? I'm not able to get the gadauskus fins here in Portugal
No sorry
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Too bad but thanks for the reply! And thanks for the effort you putting into each video - great content!
Do you have a feeling how it compares to the Modern 2 if you remember? Have a M2 in Poly was gonna reorder one day in that E3 construction but would consider the Twin Turbo, seems a bit more performancey?
More performance in the Twin Turbo for sure. I like the TT better for my style of surfing!
Right on, thanks! TT looks more pivot-y and vertical, M2 really wants to project and surfs maybe more horizontal. Keep up the good work love getting to hear from Marcio!!
Nice review, but at the moment the variant you tested with the tri fin and epoxy is not released, the model available is only a twin with no epoxy. Would it still be similar to the board your riding?
Good question 🙋🏼♂️
You can order the E3 Epoxy tech from SharpEye custom. Just place your order and tell them you want the new E3 tech that I used in this review.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 ok thank you
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks a lot coach! :)
Nice man !hello from spain 🙂🙂 really good review , i loved it . I have one question , i am 6,1 , weight 85 kg and i am mid intermediate surfer , i've been surfing a epoxy 6,3 35 ltr for a lot of time and ive been wanting a step up caz ive been feeling its hard to manuver in that board . Ive been wanting the storms normal version for a while but now im in doubt if its a good choice or not .i surf in 3'- 6' waves and i want a everyday board , easier to manouver and just the "harder step " enough to do to not complitely mess up my progress . do you think it was a good choice or it wasnt ?im scared now . Much love from the basque country my friend 🙂🙂❤️💚🤍
The Storms board is good that size waves
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you 🙂
63 and still riding my G&S MR twin
Hi Noel… how do you compare the Storms TT to the Sharpeye Maguro?
TT offers more performance in the pocket with sharper lines top to bottom
Sorry can I ask what are the dimension for the twin turbo used in the video
I always put the board dims in the RUclips Tube description field of each review. It’s a stock 5’5” (26.5L)
Noel,
I have a TT pure twin for ride in 1-4ft waves... ( It’s my best board ever)
Now I am looking another board for ride in 2-5ft waves.
Do you recommend me the TT tri fin or the Aipa Dark Twinn??
I have also one Inferno72 for more solid waves.
Thanks so much.
I say TT with a center box. If you love your TT then stay with the same board design and add fin options. Get it in XTR10 foam… insane! Tell the guys at XTR I sent you
In tri fin do you recommend me the P8 or F8 Futures fins?
Thanks
@@filipevicente774 Beachies I say F8, R8 for more open faced point breaks
Hey Noel, curious to know if you have had a go on the Too Fish yet? and how you think it stacks up vs the Seaside
No sorry… not sure I’m doing that review
I have one. It's fun but i'm not really really crazy about it. It's fun and typical fish style, but not a fan of the shorter rail line. It's similar in outline to the seaside but twin. The v is super deep - also not crazy about that. Preferred the Go Fish, but i outgrew the volume I had. Tried to go custom but his 'company' is silly.
Hello.
Which Futures thurster set do you recommend for this board?
Thanks. Cheers

Hi noel thanks for the great review.
Can you use it as thruster?
Yes… watch the full episode.
Hi Noel. I like the review on this board. I am a beginner transitioning from foamie to fibreglass surfboard. Do you think the RNF 96 would be a good start. Size wise I was looking at a5'9" with 35L vol. I am 5'11" tall and 78kg. Would appreciate your feedback. Glenn 😎
Hi Noel. This is Glenn again from Sunshine Coast. Qld. Australia. I was asking about the RNF 96. So many people are telling me I should be riding all different kinds of things. Do you think the RNF 96 would be okay. I am so confused. So many options.
The 96 is good but I recommend a bit more foam and height for your transition. Maybe 6’0” 40L
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thankyou very much. I appreciate your feedback.Glenn.
I am riding a 6foot foamie. It's a MR super twin epoxy soft at 41 litres. I am having trouble with my turns. That is why I asked about getting a 5'9" RNF 96 fibreglass surfboard. Is it just that I am not good enough yet. Or do you think it is the length, volume and rounded rails maybe causing this lack of progress. Glenn.
@@glennsanderson9774 Foamies really don’t turn that well. I say go 6’0 roughly 40L and you will turn way better on a real surfboard
Great Video! How would you rate it against the Pyzel Astro Pop ?
The TT offers way more performance. The Astro POP is more of a Groveler. The AP has more glide for padding and down the line speed but the TT offers critical turns like a HPSB.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 awesome , thanks !!
Amazing, Noel, where do did you get the tiny green trailer you were showing in a past episode?? I am about to sit back , relax , grab my favorite drink and enjoy the show. 🤙🏼
Same here 🥤 !!
yewww!!!
Hey Noel, my buddy is thinking about buying a funboard and I’m trying to talk him out of it. Is there a shortboard you could recommend that’s a great paddler but that will still perform? I can’t let him get a funboard and just give up. He’s in NC and he said the waves have been small and the only way to have fun is on a longboard, ugh!?! I was thinking the Seaside or something like that. Unfortunately price is an issue but still I can’t let him go down that dark road of funboards and longboards.
If the waves are small and gutless… fun boards are epic. Longboards aren’t my thing either….
A couple boards come to mind…
This Twin Turbo as a Twin fin is super fun in smaller waves.
For smaller mushy waves with hybrid outline…. I like the White Tiger, RNF 96 as a Twinny, Chilli BV2.
You can also send him to our website and look at my Favorites in small wave performance boards.

Hey Noel! Since Turbo Twin and Uber Twin are both 2 plus trailer and both have been favorite for you, how would you compare them? How would you choose one over the other? Thanks
@@Zinngarino Twin Turbo offers more performance in the pocket. It does sharper turns and surfs the pocket more vertically

Hi Salas.
I am looking a new board for compliment my quiver but I am a little confused if I choose the Dark.twinn or Inferno FT...
My wave range is 1-5ft waves (similar to Califórnia waves) .
My quiver: TT and Inferno72.
What's is your recommendation and why?
Thanks so much.
Cheers.
Your two board quiver is perfect for 1-5’ surf. No need for the other boards. The Filipe model is best in good waves and the DT is fin in 3-6’ surf too. If you want a HPSB then go F.T.
Some friends suggested me buy another TT but in Eps and with 3 fins plugs...
Do you think that make sense? Or is better go with the FT?
Thanks
@@user-iz3qh5md4w I say TT with 3 plugs sounds good for 1-5’ surf
so strange to see a board with 3 fin boxes as a "twin fin"
Agreed
tail rocker?
That’s a question for Marcio. Feels like medium to me.
Hey Noel, TT, DEUCE or D2 and why.tia
The D2 an TT are not true twin fins. You have more fin options with those two sleds. My Deuce is twin only. All 3 boards are epic…. I prefer Twin Fins these days so I say Deuce. They are faster and way more fun and the performance in the pocket is amazing
Great thanks Noel, I got the D2 and Rusty twin on your recommendation and love em both, is it worth adding the deuce?
@@capricorn_drifter Absolutely
@@capricorn_drifter Get my HP Twins for the Deuce… you will freak on the performance. Check them out here…

Looks very much like the CI fishbird
Not even close in performance or board design
Fishbeard or Twin Turbo for bad - average waves?
Twin Turbo… more fin options to deal with bad conditions
Unfortunately the shops here in indo only have twin turbo with 2 fin plugs.
Bobby quad and fishbeard? Or is twin turbo as pure twin still the winner?
@@bombodomo I would choose the Twin Turbo. You need the right fins though. If you want go traction… maybe go 1” longer and go Futures EN or FCSII go Power Twins
Gang related. OG
Those channels are actually tiny fins
