The Skeleton Bay Shootout | Surf Contest At The Best Wave In The World

- The Skeleton Bay Shootout presented by Monster Energy took place over three days in late June in non-stop three-to-six foot barrels in Namibia. The speciality event looks to recognise the standout surfers of the swell at the best wave in the world and the rules are simple - show up and pull in.
“The Skeleton Bay Shootout is a peer-judged event and it’s pretty underground. No-ones really knows when it will happen, it’ll just pop-up depending on the swell and whoever is there is there,” says Eli Beukes, who put in a solid showing on his first trip to the iconic left-hander on the edge of the Namib Desert. “It’s pretty cool because it’s mostly going by word of mouth and whoever has been the surfer of the swell or gets the best barrel will get a bit of a cash prize at the end.”
This was essentially a dry-run for the concept. Now Now Media is planning a series of Shootouts based on the same idea at some of the most incredible waves around the world in 2024 and looking to bump up the prize money significantly. The prizes are a nice way to recognise who was charging but it’s not about the money. There’s always so much stoke when waves like this are firing and anybody who gets a good wave out there is a winner the end of the day. The Shootout is essentially a celebration of that.

esus, boys that was breathtakingly gorgeous, more barrel time here than the entire pro tour over a year
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it!
@@NowNowMedia That was absolutely beautiful!
This has to be the most perfect wave in the world.
Why do surf videos never show the pop up? I would love to see how people get into the different types of waves in the world.
EXACTLY!! this is what I've always been missing. Just the 5 seconds before the pop up as well, watching the surfers make the decision to go for it
check out surfers of bali
Have a look at 8:46.
@@dacat8171 Nice! Thanks.
It’s just this one
It just goes on forever and ever!. This is some of the best surfing footage I've ever seen.
BEST camera shots we have ever seen at this break, well done chaps
Cheers and thank you for watching.
Not really most angles are like this.
The vast majority of the sick SB swells I’ve seen, are POV, because the fog is gnarly.
Props to the drone pilot at 5:55 Thats some tidy lines there 🔥
Cheers and thanks for watching. That's Dale Staples flying the drone, almost as skilled in the air as he is in the tube.
Great work guys! so stoked everyone scored! that's the most perfect I've seen it in a while!!!
Cheers @ChrisRogers, much appreciated and thanks for watching!
That was awesome to watch. Everyone scoring insane long barrels. Epic
Cheers and thanks for watching.
Skeleton Bay must surely be the longest and best wave in the world, never mind in Namibia. That side angle looking up the point is incredible.
Absolutely loved this! Thank you! More please ...
Never surfed. Always a keen spectator. Great waves, great surfers, great drone footage. ✌️
Cheers @nickmeteor9663 , thanks for watching.
Would love to see Clay Marzo surf out there when it was firing ! He would blow peoples minds
Is that you Clay?
Totally. Pound for pound the best Surfer on the 🌍
And he do it all in board shorts
bs. he not top 100
It's hardly the kind of wave to highlight an individuals style...
Just imagine the millions upon millions of perfect waves, all around the world, that were never ridden.
Awesome do see these beauties with someone on them.
Thanks for watching! Please hit subscribe if you like what you see. We’ve got more in the making.
Another great job. NOW NOW. Thank u that someone is doing this.
Cheers @troycreatlive4148, thanks for watching.
Music bringing be back to the days of Transworld Surf on PS2 haha. Epic waves so cool to see a unique surf contest in some of the best and definitely longest barreling waves on earth to date.
Cheers @maxnuccio2440, thanks for watching.
This is some of the best surfing footage I've ever seen😍
Cheers @shainedupuis2649, thanks for watching.
Banzai Pipeline: I have the best barrels in the world
Skeleton Bay: Hold my beer
It just goes on forever and ever!
Cool format. great waves.
This place is terrifying. That being said I hope to go back someday. There's an eeriness in the water that for me personally I have felt nowhere else.
Definition of the dream tour
Would have to agree.
Lekker vibes and even better waves. Thank you for this video!
Cheers and thanks for watching.
OH MY BOEREWORS ROLLS
Great video and the drone segment at 5m 40s is absolutely brilliantly done. 👏
Thanks for watching @jxbusic. The drone work is by Dale Staples - incidentally he's as good in the tube at Skeleton Bay as he is at getting those shots.
So insanely Epic!
Now Now killing it out there
Cheers @seatoskyadventures6130, thanks for watching.
Nadia's stall into the tube was so dope!!
Bucket list for sure! ❤
Amazing to watch... great effort all round...
Cheers and thanks for watching @gavinderbyshire5535
Radical, great tube time's, legendary work boys, cheers keep em coming.
Cheers, thank you for watching and the support.
Yew
Great waves would be nice to see a few take offs.
Wild, no crowd, a true wave machine. 😅
Incredible ly cool
Thanks for watching.
Flat out Awesome!!!
Grande Nadia!!
❤LOVE This Wave
Como diria mi hijo Gaspar. Deditos para arriba. Viva el Surf!!!! Viva la vida!!
Maybe Kelly added his pool machine in there! haha amazing
I started surfing in 1960 in Southern California. I enjoyed long board surfing maybe 5 feet max waves in a "stately" manner. All the crouching and hunching I see in these videos today makes me wince. It can't feel as enjoyable. An opinion of course.
Wowsers this is mental, I can only imagine all the other clips banked from the run off swell from all the other surfers, how about a part 2?
Cheers Jerome. Definitely some leftovers...
Nuts. A machine.
Incredible video...thank you
Thanks for watching @craigperry5729
I like surf and animals saving ❤
Look like Max Elkington had the perfect setup with that thruster. He was just sitting right in the pocket. Making it look effortless. RLTW 3/75
Galera fez a cabeça nestas kilometricas ondas tubulares, parabens.Mahalo.
Nadia was the stand out ❤
Holy cow! This is mental!
Essa onda é incrível! Seloko
Dang I'm hooked,great video
Thank you for watching.
Yeww! Pits for years 🙌🏼
Unbelievable wave so cool how long it lasts and how many waves line up
reminds me of a video game! so perfect!
Those Sets look like out of a Park, one right after the other like Clockwork.
Great video! I think its imposible to rate scores it those long perfect waves, everyones getting barrels!
Cheers and thank you for watching @ramonhernandez5743
This is as perfect as slaters wave pool except much bigger just knarly as hell wish I was there don't you?
Every wave was a perfect 10.
Amazing!
INSANE!!!
Love how Jordy M is out there getting bleeping paid.
Bucket list f sure, got surf magazine about that serf zone
Whoop whoop 🙌🏼 🎉
Dream session!
amazing
Nadia, una máquina Española ❤
Beautiful
have to carry your lunch with ya on some of those rides
One dude after another so deep inside the barrel that you wouldn't even see them from the shore til they emerged like 30--45 seconds later
Cette vague est juste incroyable
Esse lugar é irado!
Oh the cramps ! Worth every twinge...lol
This is the best wave in the world, just saying, this video (again and again and again and again) is the evidence...is the proof. Yisem chaaaana's!!! the stoke is real!
Cheers and thank you for watching. Would have to agree - nothing quite compares to Namibia and Skeleton Bay.
Clean surf, the water cleanness is debatable. Aloha
Thanks for watching @michaelnicholls8527 . The water quality is actually really good, the colour comes from all the sediment moving around and upwelling.
Think about Kelly Slater and these waves! Mind Blown!
Thanks for watching @Kahuna54 - word has it that Kelly Slater may be there right now.
I remember first seeing this wave in the lost redux vid...it still just doesn't even look real!
Mad spot
So nice
First time I’ve ever seen SB, not look absolutely terrifying ( excluding the wave ). It’s almost always exclusively low vis water, foggy, POV, that makes it look like they’re surfing on the moon, with seal colonies & great whites
brilliant
Amazing
Always been the best wave in the world. For its size every other spot is off the radar.!!!!
Would have too agree - no other wave like Skeleton Bay. Thanks for watching.
Put me in the Game coach..Krazy
So who won the cash at the end ? did I miss that ???
Jordy Maree at 07:00 was main winner for the wave of the swell. But anyone who got a wave out there was a winner. Thanks for watching.
eeeeeeeepic!!!
Luke Thompson with the lazy boy lay back wowww
Thanks for watching @tims6582 - he wrangled that wave like a champ.
sick sick sick
Thanks 👍 that was truly Beautiful 😍
Thanks for watching!
Only thing I can say is wish i was there
Natalia should get a little prize money for being the only one to attempt a top turn. Sweet footage. #1 wave on my bucket list.
She did! And for her crazy barrels. Thanks for watching.
Maybe she is in fact Bill Bryan’s offspring
this place needs to be balified and PRONTO!!!
Que alucinaaanteeeeeee!
100%#1
Does this place ever ratchet down a notch, non-tubing to where a good-but-not-remarkable longboarder could make use of it?
Asking for a friend...
Not really - Skeleton Bay is usually full tilt or flat. But there are other waves around.
IS THIS SPOT ON THE NAMIBIAN COAST FANTASTIC VID. 10:13
But boy, it’s so friggin cold, Antarctic current…
Wow ! You guys were needing a jet ski to avoid the paddle.
No jet skis allowed at Skeleton Bay, it's inside a national park and the locals instituted a no-lift rule back up the point to avoid people tearing around on the sandspit in 4x4s. Thanks for watching.
@@NowNowMediahow it should be!
Question. I’m not a surfer but thinking about getting into it. I always was into body boarding. But anyway. Do people who discover these spots get pissed when they get blown up? Or do they like sharing them? Skeleton bay was hardly even known 10 years ago
Getting to this spot is so challenging it’s not likely it will ever be packed
#DVG in in the mix again
Hope this vid gets more views than the WSL comps 🤙🤙
Clearly Jordy Maree did not need any sunscreen.
what a wave....
