Yeah....And Skyrim is still a time vacuum so my time is....well.....I don't HAVE time. Skyrim is like:"HEY! COME SLAY THIS ONE DRAGON!" I kill the dragon and well.........twelve hours pass and I am crafting a dragon bone sword. I'm like....Fuck. Ok I need to play something not as action packed. Oh hey Civ V is fucking awesome. I'm gonna play for a few hours. Next thing I know I'm playing a marathon length game and I am at war with two diffirent nations and I have been up for over 28 hours. (I'm not kidding....I've had that happen. I mean I'm not saying that that isn't bad but those were some good 28 hours.)
Max Coker 28 hours for a huge map and trying to make it last as long as possible seems reasonable to me. CIV isn't, for me at least, about wining, it's drawing our your enemies' suffering for as long as possible.
2:40 Something similar happened to me. I wanted to declare frienship with America, and so I kindly asked Washington, and he refused, but literally one turn later he was lik,"Hey man! Let's be BFF's in the name of liberty!"
One thing I find annoying is when the ai asks you if you want to renew a deal, then you press accept, and then they say "this will not do". I mean, they just asked me if I wanted this deal!
Randygandalf95 I always imagine them going "Hey, want to extend that deal? You know, throw a little something in? Wink wink?" Either that or they think you are intimidated by them enough. And that becomes hilarious when Alexander scoffs at how you are keeping your empire intact from barbarians... when you have giant death robots scattered all over three continents and those robots outnumber the world war two tanks that are the pinnacle of his military might.
Lupus Draco Aquila Alexander is overpowered on maps with lots of cities, though. He's also one of the civs the AI knows how to play really well. It cannot play the Shoshone well, but it can play the Greeks well.
thank for actually listening to your fans and taking suggestions, not many youtubers would massively change there format to review both games and films, thank you our awesome
Me: "Hey Bismark, hows about we go off and team up against Ramses." Bismark: "No, I cannot do that at this time" Me: "Um...alright then..." *1 Turn later* Bismark: "Hey, lets team up against Ramses." Me: "I just fucking sa--. You know what? Sure, lets do it." *1 turn later* Maria Theresa: "Shall we team up against Ramses?" Me: "Sure why not?" *1 turn later* Maria Theresa: "Washington is a war monger! Everyone stay away from him!" Me: "What the actual fuck..."
I find it odd how when you finally develop nukes, every civilization is suddenly like "I do not approve of your use of nuclear arms! I will now go to war with you!" "....k... I'm gonna press this red buttton now"
hey man, do you play starcraft 2? freaking awesome game. I tryed one civilization game and i just could not get into it. Granted i only played it for like 10 minutes but still.
Im glad ur doing game reviews!! but i think u should make it feel/look different than ur movie reviews. use a new intro music, new background and suite just for the game reviews
Jeremy i love your reviews but i think this is the first video game one i've seen in a long time and i personally video games wise like simulation games like sim city and all the other sim games and i just honestly want to ask if it really is as good or better yet even better than sim city would love to hear back from you :)
I've played that game when I was an intern for a company that developed softwares, it was my boss who game me the game. So I played it for about 3 weeks in the office and still got payed. I like trading in the game where I get a large amount of stuff I want and pay the other leaders tiny portions for every turn coz after I get what I want I wage a war.
Game reviews for the win, Jeremy. Also, spot on what I felt when I played Civ5. Another thing I hate about the game is how "valuable" the computer thinks their resources are. I offer silver. What do you want for it? Well, computer says 800 coins or something along those lines. I'm happy with that, but when I want another resource of theirs... umm, nope, my silver is worth more than your gold. They wouldn't even want to trade furs for WHALES! Whales are awesome, how could you refuse that?!
i don't know but i might just suck but it takes me tell like turn 40 to start getting productive most of the time mainly finding a good place for my first city
I remember this game (The best and I need to play it again) and be like: "Oh yea I have the strongest military force in the world, all the uranium and oil... now let’s go for the global domination." *Harim al rashid achieve space victory, do you want to continue* "Yes... now where is the red button?! Fire fire fire!!!!!!" *Alexander has denounce you* "What?! You want some too!? FIRE!!!” And that’s the way that the world ends in Civilization V
I really play a lot of PS3 games these days, but I grew up playing Civilization starting at 1 and playing through to 4 (2 was the best in my opinion). Unfortunately my computer is not up to par in playing newer games, but this game could be the motivation I need in getting a new computer.
I have the game on my Ipad and I really can't get into it! I will give it another try. Thanks for the great review and including games! By far, my favorite review site.
Yep Alpha Centuri is AWESOME! Colonization is great as well (the second game for PC's - including Amiga's, ST's); focussed on the exploration of America, the original is AWESOME, then they did a remake based on the Civilization IV engine - needless to say, AWESOME!! XD
I'm still playing Civ 3. I have Civ 4, but i think i've only played it twice. I just liked 3 better. was kinda hoping you would discuss how Civ 5 was different then 4. Either way, still great and entertaining review. And is Hexagonal movement really that great? Yeah earlier Civ had the diamond pattern, but that actually gave you 8 different directions to choose from (Vertical, Horizontal, and the 2 Diagonals.)
the last Civilization Game I played was Civilization 3 and it took literally days away from my life at a time. I started playing world of warcraft and that was almost as addicting as Civ3.
That diplomacy problem, that most of the time they tell you to fuck off, is endemic to even the best turn-based strategy. Civ has done it since 3 at least, i don't remember the other 2 well enough, and Total War definitely does it. I guess it needs to be hyper suspicious to survive contact with the player... still takes me out of the experience.
Exactly how I felt. I wanted better communication. I want to be able to buy protection. I want to be able to absorb city-states by forcing them to join us or die. I want to be able to say - you will make this trade or I will destroy you.
My friend who is a retro gamer believes gamers have been ruined by extensive story. He says that any retro gamer would understand this and agree. He thinks that gamers expect a great story from every game. I can see what hes saying but i personally disagree. Extensive story adds enemy variety, area variety, and on very little occasion weapon variety. Of course he retorts that the megaman games had pretty much no story but they had all of those. Another thing he says that bothers me is that im going to use an example. What if ME4 had no choice whatsoever people would be naturally pissed off. He says that if they were real fans they would just get over it which he really has no right to say. I just want to know what you guys think about extensive story.
Depends. If the game was meant to be a grind fest a story would just get in the way much like monster hunter. Otherwise, yes, good story = much better game. Your friend couldn't be more wrong about ME4. ME was meant for you to feel like you are the protagonist instead of the player, take away the choice system you take that away too. It's like I can be a real fan of thor but doesn't mean i will not be upset if they change actors.
I think extra credit said it best when it came to video game music. In this case, an extensive story is a tool to be used. Back at the start, creators were limited based on tech. Now we have the ability to tell even more. If it's a usable tool for your creation, use it. It's like having the color red, but never using it as a painter. Why limit yourself that way.
Depends on the game. In Civ V is story really important? Not really, you make your own story as you expand your civilisation. Is the very basic story in Orcs Must Die 2 important? No not really, it adds a bit of humour but I play that game to slice through hundreds of Orcs and lay traps and stuff. Is it important in Bioshock? Yes. In that game, you are playing as a protagonist going through one of the worst places on the planet. I don't always want story from a game. Sometimes I just want to play the game. Sometimes, though, I want to play something that's deep and meaningful. With the interactive element, games have the potential for great stories. The best types of stories are woven into the gameplay, rather than getting in the way of them. I don't expect an extensive story from a Total War game and quite frankly I'm not sure how they could do one. I do expect one from Mass Effect, though. It all depends upon the game your buying. It isn't ruining games or anything like that. In fact, it's adding variety. There will always be games which are more mechanics based and have little to no story, but now we are getting ones with a lot more story as well. As long as the mechanics also hold up, there's no problem. If they don't...why can't I just watch a movie of this story?
Napoleon III, plus Bismarck didn't exactly unite Germany peacefully going through three wars to convince the lesser German states to unite Germany under Prussia, rather than Austria, awesome leader though.
I think id be missed not to say that the moment ( 1:12 ) you put a gun to my head and said "military conquest leaders of Germany" the first name that came to mind WAS Bismarck And i didn't even play the game ^^`
Civ V is the biggest time vacuum since Skyrim.
RedSoxFan701 936 hours and counting!
+tkristians123 it took you 28 hours to finish one round of civ5 or was it multiple rounds
Max Coker 28 hours for a huge map and trying to make it last as long as possible seems reasonable to me. CIV isn't, for me at least, about wining, it's drawing our your enemies' suffering for as long as possible.
"explore the deeper aspects of diplomacy"
*nuclear explosion*
PFFFT HAHAH FUCKING GENEIOUS
Very geneious dude.
2:40 Something similar happened to me. I wanted to declare frienship with America, and so I kindly asked Washington, and he refused, but literally one turn later he was lik,"Hey man! Let's be BFF's in the name of liberty!"

Randygandalf95 Granted, but no matter how well the AI can play him, it doesn't really help when he's outgunned.
lol man his video quality has come a long way. This looks like it was recorded on a potato.
Speaking from the not-so-distant future year of 2020, I concur.
Awesome review men, i definitely wanna see more of these game reveiws!
I just loaded this game up on my PC yesterday for the first time and I have already had a dream about my next move!
Bro, i remember watching this review when i was like 11 or 12. Crazy coming back to it. Also, Civ 5 is the greatest game of all time
thank for actually listening to your fans and taking suggestions, not many youtubers would massively change there format to review both games and films, thank you our awesome

Jeremy you need to make more game reviews, you are awesome at this!
you should do a 8 bit version of your theme for your video game reviews
cant. stop. watching. jeremy's videos
I find it odd how when you finally develop nukes, every civilization is suddenly like "I do not approve of your use of nuclear arms! I will now go to war with you!"

This is the start of something great, VIDEO GAME REVIEWS FROM JEREMY JAHNS !!
will you make a video game rating system?
Thanks a bunch for reviewing this Jeremy, I've been contemplating picking this up.
the picture of the diplomats was from the Time Machine, wasnt it.

@JeremyJahns Jeremy, I think this is my favourite video that you've ever done. Your also unbeleivabley awesome. That is all.
@collesse94 The battles play out in Real Time, and whilst yes the diplomacy and so is Turn Based, ultimately the game is played on the battlefield :P
jeremy,your opinion on the 3DS!
1:35 Is Jermey Krillin from dbz abridged
TheShifter1001 It does sound the exact same.
hey man, do you play starcraft 2? freaking awesome game. I tryed one civilization game and i just could not get into it. Granted i only played it for like 10 minutes but still.
Im glad ur doing game reviews!! but i think u should make it feel/look different than ur movie reviews. use a new intro music, new background and suite just for the game reviews
Jeremy i love your reviews but i think this is the first video game one i've seen in a long time

Amazing review, keep it up
I've played that game when I was an intern for a company that developed softwares, it was my boss who game me the game. So I played it for about 3 weeks in the office and still got payed.
I like trading in the game where I get a large amount of stuff I want and pay the other leaders tiny portions for every turn coz after I get what I want I wage a war.
this is actually the first jeremy jahns video i watched
can you do L.A. Noire ?
Game reviews for the win, Jeremy. Also, spot on what I felt when I played Civ5.

Great job for your first game review! (If it is your first) Please make more :)
You should review the expansions
Can you review GTA IV have you played any of the gta games.
whats wrong with Kaizer Wilhelm?
if by slow you mean research and getting your civilization off the ground you can turn up the game pace in the options so things go a little "faster"
you know i was thinking about getting civ 5 but your review has now convinced me to get it
You should review the expansion pack.
Do you think there is a way to script Hitler into Civ5? Maybe a patch?
You have to make a review about the gods and kings expansion:)
i don't know but i might just suck but it takes me tell like turn 40 to start getting productive most of the time mainly finding a good place for my first city
Dude. Brave New World is the newest and it KICKS ASS!

@BattleGamerNews Why war?
Do a video on Kill Bill vol. 1 Please
I think the thing I love most about civilization is the advisors in civ 2. So campy much wow.
There are but im not gonna sit here and explain them to you . BTW how far did you get into the game ?
how much is this game?
That's a very nice rock you've got there... very good weapon xD
sounds good... honestly i never heard of the series.... I have NO systems right now because i traded them to get the 360 w/ kinect!!! I CANT WAIT!!
@collesse94 total war is also rts
The nuke ending should officially replace the punch... or better yet, a punch that causes a NUKE ENDING!!!
Who's Gondy?
haha Jeremy your a genius, the last liner got me haha.
"The deeper aspects...of diplomacy. "
....Hahahhahahhah!
You didn't punch the screen?! What the hell?!
I JUST did that to Montezuma (Aztecs) lol.. Used the time to get all manner of hell around his borders. Nice guy.
I cant get Steam to download on my computer :( It's stopping me from playing!!
Hours will seem like minutes and days will seem like hours...
I have the game on my Ipad and I really can't get into it! I will give it another try. Thanks for the great review and including games!
By far, my favorite review site.
@IDH2008 depends on what u like in your civ games really
Yep Alpha Centuri is AWESOME! Colonization is great as well (the second game for PC's - including Amiga's, ST's); focussed on the exploration of America, the original is AWESOME, then they did a remake based on the Civilization IV engine - needless to say, AWESOME!! XD

He didnt kill Norry, did he
God I played 3 for literally countless hours. I can't wait to get this.
This game is timeless.
Ive never played a Civ game but the Total War games were the "just one more turn" games for me. Cant wait for Rome 2!!!
Same thing happens in Medieval Total War. Diplomacy only works when the computer approaches you. :/
and why nor bismark?
he was a general at a time where germany was on the tip of there power
EPIC start your game reviews. ICBMs are my best friend :)
"So you can concentrate on the deeper aspects of diplomacy.." and the atom bomb goes off Lmfao FUCKING GENIUS!
@JeremyJahns Yes.
where's the punch at the end jeremy -_-?
...you just made a very dangerous enemy O_o..
Do you play Wow?
well, okay. To be honest the last time I had to think about Bismarck was in 10th grade :D good that you refreshened my memories :)
Exactly how I felt. I wanted better communication. I want to be able to buy protection. I want to be able to absorb city-states by forcing them to join us or die. I want to be able to say - you will make this trade or I will destroy you.
what no punch?
Jeremey's diplomatic voice sounds like krillin from Teamfourstar
awsome review.. do more..
It;s good that you didn't review this as if it were a film, because reviewing games is a totally different animal. Good job.
Theres always something to do . Move your troops ,defend against barbarians , discover new civilizations and the list goes on and on.

It's like having the color red, but never using it as a painter. Why limit yourself that way.
Story is the most important thing to me when it comes to a game. I love a good story. Gameplay has to be decent too tho.
I love story. It can be a new medium for storytelling, especially when you can change the story by making the decisions.
Depends on the game. In Civ V is story really important? Not really, you make your own story as you expand your civilisation. Is the very basic story in Orcs Must Die 2 important? @Murraythis total war = turn based?
I am not a big PC gamer, but I'm thinking about getting this game solely on the grounds of what Jeremy here just said.
Jeremy for president!
at 1:36 sorry Jeremy but you sound like Don Knotz or the TFS Krillin
Napoleon III, plus Bismarck didn't exactly unite Germany peacefully going through three wars to convince the lesser German states to unite Germany under Prussia, rather than Austria, awesome leader though.
I think id be missed not to say that the moment ( 1:12 ) you put a gun to my head and said "military conquest leaders of Germany" the first name that came to mind WAS Bismarck

Umm... Yeah
We're going to take your land, because there is no fucking way you can stop us.
I used to kill Civilization Rev all the time on PS3
