My civ was only 6000 years old. I loved Gandhi so much, I had traded all my resources to him. I prayed to Gandhi every night before bed, thanking him for the civ I had been given. Gandhi is love I said, Gandhi is life. Russia hears me and publicly denounces me. I knew he was just jealous, of my devotion to Gandhi. I declared war on him, he attacks me and forces me to sign a peace treaty. I'm crying now, and my city is hurt. I lay in defeat and its really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel something touch my civ. Its Gandhi. I'm so happy. He whispers to me: "this is my land." He grabs me with his powerful Indian army, and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my army for Gandhi. He penetrates my border. It hurts so much, but I do it for Gandhi. I can feel my army dying, as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Gandhi. Better keep your eye on Gandhi....he may start out all nice and peaceful, but it just takes one little spark to turn him into a nuke rushing psychotic warmonger.

I am just like Joe here. I was partial to Halo Fallout CoD and Battlefield. My friends talked about Civ V and my streamer friend plays it often and i saw no appeal. However one of my friends bought it for me and once i got in....it doesnt let go and im currently in the 14th century A.D as Germany with a peacefully expanding empire. Now i understand the "just one more turn" addage it is 100% accurate. Solid 9.5-10/10 for me.

CIV 3 was an amazing game and so was CIV 4. In CIV 4 there was a limit to how many troops you could have in one space but it still made you think about what troops would compose that army and yes both CIV 3 and 4 had combat animations that were as good as the CIV 5 animations. Plus it isn't realistic to have one unit of say rifleman take up a whole tile because that isn't realistic. Well neither is having 400 units in one tile which is why CIV 4 mastered it with the limited amount of stackable units.
Waldemar Marzan Civilization revolution was the worst one, im playing it just for old times, and i have a 72 defense and one tank destroys my army when their attack is 27. I hate the shitty combat system
Isaac Perez no one made you buy anything. you went out and apparently, wasted your money. you only have yourself to blame if your disappointed with your purchase.
the biscuit gamer Then i probably shouldn't mention the time i played through an entire game of XCOM enemy within in one session. Friendly reminder that is is about 50 hours long if you're good.
I actually found that the diplomacy was spot on. AI will almost never trade away luxury resources if the have only one like in the example you showed. Also certain civs will be resilient to trading with you for some things that might give you the edge on them; for example iron means you can build swordsman witch are very powerful. Though if you get a friendship agreement with them they will tend to allow you to make bolder trades.
this game is so perfect every move you do has a meaning and will affect you later on. I have spent 310+ hours on it the thrill of having a enemy give every thing to you for a peace treaty. This is the best game ever i have now spent 627 hours in it and its will start to beat the 720 on gmod.
civ 3 had exactly what you were talking about, where you can see all the civs around you in a circle and it shows which nations you're at war with and what they think of you (polite, cautious, gracious etc.) but otherwise this game is a huge improvement! excited to see what civ iv will be like
Milk of human kindness en.mmoga.net/Steam-Games/Civilization-V-5-Complete-Edition.html?ref=392¤cy=USD its not the official steam store but it looks good for 13 bucks :)
It's really cool watching the review of Civ V vanilla and seeing just how much they took people like Joe's opinion in to consideration when making Gods and Kings and Brave New World. It really shows just how much 2K and Firaxis listened to the community.
9:00 When he is talking about no unit animations in multiplayer it is actually a feature that the host can enable and disable. Disabling it makes the game a lot faster. Especially when aircraft are invented.
Um Angry Joe state that there`s no Fighting animation on old Civilization, Actually Civilization 4 does have fight animations.Older than that is just like you playing Chess :3
Usually when someone tells me that a game is addicting I end up playing it, saying "meh, it's alright", and I hardly end up playing it. This is literally the only game that I can start playing at 9:30 PM and look at the clock again for it to be 7:30 AM the next day and I'm wondering where the hell the time went. And it was only $12.00 for all the DLC and the base game. Amazing steal.
Gameshunter3012 it aint expensive for the amount of content it has, i made my purchase back when it was 50 and dont regret it or buying it before any sale (because I enjoy the game that much) but he said 10 bucks for the game was the best deal he's had, and 10 for the game plus all the dlc's which are about 50 extra if not mistaken is not as good as the 40 bucks complete edition
Yea these ones look way better revolution kinda reminded me of the Sims it was fun but there wasn't as much control over every thing that you do it also was a little bit too easy but still fun this one looks really good though
I'll agree with you on that, spent 5 hours on one session. I haven't play a game like that since the early 90s. I know Civ Rev is a dumbed down version for a console but it's addicting as fuck.
I put in about 200 hours into civ V when I first got it. At some point I reinstalled it cause I wanted to try out the local play with my girlfriend. She's not a gamer, but after I explained the basics to her she has put another 200 hours onto my steam account lol
namebp 1. Calling me " dumb fuck."is uncalled for. 2. How do you know it isn´t more of a regional thing. (this I´m sugesting because of Macedonian Lion)
Hi, Joe, Thanks, agin for this review. I've loved all of the Civ series, and you've pointed out some flaws for which I'll be alert during multi-player. I've had one good experience with local multi-player, where we were all in one room, so we didn't have to use a chat feature. We still found the message screen (top right) was blocking some of the other interface buttons, but I've since learned more of the keyboard shortcuts. We didn't know about the auto-save, either, so thanks for the word on that. Diplomacy was a little awkward, though it could go on between players A and B, while player C has his/her turn for moving. I wish we would get together and play again. Maybe now that you've let us know about the auto-save feature still working, they'll be more willing. :)
Joe's opening expressions are dead on, didn't think I would like playing a Civ game. Then tried out Civilization Revolutions on the 360 and I was hooked on that style of gameplay. It drags you in for hours you don't mind losing.
I do find the other civs to be infuriating. None of them are ever truly your allies, the denouncing circles are annoying, and they drag you into war if you don't spend all your gold and turns on your goddamn military. The game forces me to build units I don't need when I go for peaceful culture victories.
Peacekeeper. Just destroy the pesky neighbors, and the remaining civilizations will keep their distance. Also, if you focus on one civilization to please, you can Infact make alliances. I partnered up with Napoleon my last session and took down England together.
I love Civ V!! Best strategy game, I'm soo addictive to it but I have been trying to find someone who can tell me if there are any other games like this. I mean, Civ V is very addictive but I just wish you can do more like more in-depth diplomacy. That game called Europa Universalis has very in-depth diplomacy and etc but I really don't like how the game looks. I guess, I'm just too addictive to Civ V and how the mechanics are played but would like to find something just as good or better than Civ V but I am afraid to waste my money, trying to find a decent one on Steam. Could really use the help from fellow Civ V players to help me decide I guess.
Ti Ng Yea, I hear that alot but the graphics ugh lol and people say the deathstack of units is not a good thing. Sounds like cheating to me for the AI.
You can give the Total War series a try. Shogun 2 Total War and Rome Total War 2 are pretty good. It's more about strategically directing units in war than it is creating an empire, but it's as close as you're likely to get.
Alex Mercer Yeah, I was checking them out. Only one that sparks interest is Rome Total War 2 but I'm thinking of going with the Europa Universalis games. I think those more fit me because it has more in-depth diplomacy and managing your nation and going to war is much better than just a full war game only. I would still check out Rome but EU sounds more for my liking.
This game is on sale right now on steam and I'm considering getting it, but could someone explain how endgame works? Does the game end once you defeat the other nations?
***** The main point to win is having the most science. Even if you aren't going for science victory. You can win by owning everyone's capital (domination), researching late game techs and building spaceship parts (scientific), getting enough votes in the world congress (diplomatic) and earning enough tourism to have 100% of everyones culture (cultural). Thorught the game you strive towards one or more of these victories while making your empire stronger by sim city or conquest.
+megasonicgeo Do prepare to invest a lot of time tho. Even on quick mode a game takes around 4 hours assuming you reach around 350 turns. It's insanely good tho
Dragon Knight I play EUIV so I think it's safe to say time isn't a problem xD What I'm worried about is does it eventually force you to end game? EUIV ends in the year 1821 but with an extended timeline mod it pretty much goes on as long as you want. (Yes I realize EUIV is nothing like CIV5)
Mine is always either America or Japan, mostly because of their special air units: the B-17 and the Zero. My air force is always my biggest tool, leveling cities and pummeling ground troops. Then I just walk over their toasted corpses with my infantry and tanks and take their cities. And when I get aircraft that can drop Nukes and Atom Bombs... well... you've lost :)
What? They even advertise its addictiveness? That's like bragging: "Look how good we are at getting you hooked!" Did you ever try heroine because it appealed to you that it's so addictive? I don't know about you, but I care for fun, not addictiveness. ... Maybe people forget how to tell them apart.
***** Well yes. But once you get into it, you will not regret it. Also, Crusader kings II is by far one of the best player driven story games. A story is born from the mechanics of the game.
***** You just have to find the right time, when to sink yourself in. I did not look at any tutorials, I just kind of figured stuff out. Even though it looks comlicated, it is damn fun!
If you click on the globe icon in the upper right corner, it brings up all the civs. If you hover over "friendly"/"neutral"/"guarded", it will tell you all the reasons why they are that way.
Yes, you can win through culture (tourism), science, or diplomacy. You will likely need to defend against the more domination focused civs though (Aztecs).
Civ V Vanilla: Yeah what a fun game!
Civ V Complete: Holy shit.
+John S Civ V + GK + BNW is the best thing I've ever played.

It's such a great game!

You know a game is good when Joe starts off with how good it is instead of it's problems.

Its Gandhi.
I'm so happy. He whispers to me: "this is my land."
He grabs me with his powerful Indian army, and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my army for Gandhi. He penetrates my border. It hurts so much, but I do it for Gandhi.
I can feel my army dying, as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Gandhi. He roars a mighty roar, as he fills my civ with his nukes.
Russia walks in. Gandhi looks him straight in the eye, and says "It's all fallout now." Gandhi waves through my borders.

@@bismuth7398 to be fair Civ gameplay design has always favoured wide strategies over tall

Friendly reminder that is is about 50 hours long if you're good.
eckabacken9
lol
you know you could have a heart attack doing that
I actually found that the diplomacy was spot on.
10 years already?
He should do another review with the two dlcs.....expands this game so much
I have 916 hours of gameplay sunk into civ
11 pm "oh shit it's late... just one more turn..."
2 am "what? oh no.... but ... just one more turn...."
For the multiplayer part there are moving animations, you just need to go into the options.
06:00 Welcome to the Dancing Joe Show
There is an option in multiplayer to turn on animations
civ 3 had exactly what you were talking about, where you can see all the civs around you in a circle and it shows which nations you're at war with and what they think of you (polite, cautious, gracious etc.) but otherwise this game is a huge improvement! excited to see what civ iv will be like
Just got it on sale for 12 bucks till the 1st of feb! anyone who has not played it buy it!
Me too, same sale
*****
same and yes best sale ever
+jpotts1515gaming I missed it by an hour had to buy it full price
Milk of human kindness that sucks
Milk of human kindness en.mmoga.net/Steam-Games/Civilization-V-5-Complete-Edition.html?ref=392¤cy=USD its not the official steam store but it looks good for 13 bucks :)
His Scientist impersonation was spot on
It's really cool watching the review of Civ V vanilla and seeing just how much they took people like Joe's opinion in to consideration when making Gods and Kings and Brave New World. It really shows just how much 2K and Firaxis listened to the community.
The entire civ 5 collection is on sale for 11quid on steam!!
FUCK YEAH
I just watched this old but gold reveiw because of Civ VI :)
9:00 When he is talking about no unit animations in multiplayer it is actually a feature that the host can enable and disable. Disabling it makes the game a lot faster. Especially when aircraft are invented.
Blaming the game for a problem which can be fixed by a quick visit to the settings
Only on the AngryJoeShow!
Um Angry Joe state that there`s no Fighting animation on old Civilization,
Actually Civilization 4 does have fight animations.Older than that is just like you playing Chess :3
Murutattack - Gaming Testers Civilization 3 had combat animations as well.
yea i did check didn`t play Civ 3 though :p
I like the 'Historic' mod. It slows down research so you can spend more time in each era.
unit movement and combat animations are a setting. they have always been there. and the person who hosts the game saves the game.
not when the game first came out
SCIENCE!!
CUUUULTUUUUURE
Dordracnor Culture used to suck until BNW
DIIIIIIIPPPPPOOOMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCYYYYYYYYY
I rather like the culture in gods & kings

Usually when someone tells me that a game is addicting I end up playing it, saying "meh, it's alright", and I hardly end up playing it. This is literally the only game that I can start playing at 9:30 PM and look at the clock again for it to be 7:30 AM the next day and I'm wondering where the hell the time went. And it was only $12.00 for all the DLC and the base game. Amazing steal.
Joe, there are unit animations. You just had them disabled.
I got this on a steam sale for 10.00 dollars greatest deal so far I've had.
8 bucks for me
not the complete edition though
Paramone Gaming
Complete edition 40 dollars. How is that expensive?
Gameshunter3012
it aint expensive for the amount of content it has, i made my purchase back when it was 50 and dont regret it or buying it before any sale (because I enjoy the game that much) but he said 10 bucks for the game was the best deal he's had, and 10 for the game plus all the dlc's which are about 50 extra if not mistaken is not as good as the 40 bucks complete edition
*****
cant wait for Beyond Earth though, but over 20 civs can make me wait
I love how the last guy always takes out like half your unit before dying.
got the game week ago still playing it 8 and more hours a day lel
I've played a Civilization game that's now free on Xbox 360 it's so addicting
Yea these ones look way better revolution kinda reminded me of the Sims it was fun but there wasn't as much control over every thing that you do it also was a little bit too easy but still fun this one looks really good though
I'll agree with you on that, spent 5 hours on one session. I haven't play a game like that since the early 90s. I know Civ Rev is a dumbed down version for a console but it's addicting as fuck.
Oh god, Revolution? Really? That's so bad.
Get computer and buy a real version of Civ
Orthanderis
Dude. That's just your opinion. If they liked the game then you can only stfu...
i remember playing civ 2 on playstation 1 :P
I put in about 200 hours into civ V when I first got it. At some point I reinstalled it cause I wanted to try out the local play with my girlfriend. She's not a gamer, but after I explained the basics to her she has put another 200 hours onto my steam account lol
5:53 that's not japanese. i visit thailand every year. i heard that in a temple. 1st time i hear you make a mistake.

PlatinumSpoons Darude-Sandstorm 3
artman201 Finland is awesome
So I've been playing for 9 hours straight... This game is addicting
Hi, Joe,
Thanks, agin for this review.
gosh darn skype sound at 2:58
aaand 4:58
***** Just saying i checked skype. not that im annoyed by it.
I literally just noticed it and im like... I bet its in the comments
😂
This was an amazing game
Still is
lol thx for correcting me
Joe's opening expressions are dead on, didn't think I would like playing a Civ game. Then tried out Civilization Revolutions on the 360 and I was hooked on that style of gameplay. It drags you in for hours you don't mind losing.
"only 8-10 hours"
Play on the biggest Map with all civilization and only put domination victory and on marathon time it will probably take u 40-50 hours of not more
TheMysteriousGamers haha I still have unfinished games w all civs domination only.
A blast from the past. AJ is a talent, gaming industry and its consumers need him.
Try Civ4. It's better than Civ5.
Alex Mercer Rome Total War 2 is good ? lol
*Picks Elizabeth and Islands*
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
0:33 “Oh.....yeah..... that’s good stuff........”
This game is on sale right now on steam and I'm considering getting it, but could someone explain how endgame works? Does the game end once you defeat the other nations?
Tadhg Whytock How does winning work in this game? Are they short games that you start over once you win?
Dragon Knight I play EUIV so I think it's safe to say time isn't a problem xD
What I'm worried about is does it eventually force you to end game? EUIV ends in the year 1821 but with an extended timeline mod it pretty much goes on as long as you want.
(Yes I realize EUIV is nothing like CIV5)
the game ends a 2025 but there's is an option to continue. You can also turn the time victory off entirely
Man I love this game, my main civilization is Mongolia
Mine is Poland it has some good Winged Hussar
Mine is always either America or Japan, mostly because of their special air units: the B-17 and the Zero. My air force is always my biggest tool, leveling cities and pummeling ground troops. Then I just walk over their toasted corpses with my infantry and tanks and take their cities. And when I get aircraft that can drop Nukes and Atom Bombs... well... you've lost :)
Mine is the Ottoman Turks. They get the earliest gun unit in the game and on top of that they regenerate all their health after killing a unit.
Egypt has a great way to monopolize victory bye building wonders so I like them the best
Mine its Tahuantinsuyu because... im peruvian LEL ._.
I played Civ 5 for 19 hours straight once... took a one hour nap then got back to playing for another 12 hours...
What? They even advertise its addictiveness? That's like bragging: "Look how good we are at getting you hooked!"
Did you ever try heroine because it appealed to you that it's so addictive?
I don't know about you, but I care for fun, not addictiveness. ... Maybe people forget how to tell them apart.
fuck you
CobrakingTV
You can't. I'm not gay.
CobrakingTV
Yeah, because what you actually are is not illegal, sadly. ;-)
*****
No, he was hypothetically talking about him being a pedophile in case I'm a little girl. Also, he never said he himself isn't gay. ;-)
But thats just a theory a game theory!
Europa Universalis IV got the diplomacy mostly right.
Just.... one..... more.. turn..
That moment when you said that hours ago...
:D
this comment was posted six months ago. he is still playing.
Alex Breaux xD
I am so addicted, I binge play the game, HELP
Civ 5 Vanilla: What a great game.
Civ 5 with DLC's: Have not seen the real civilization in a week.
is there a way to play the game without going to war at all?
Yes, you can win through culture (tourism), science, or diplomacy. You will likely need to defend against the more domination focused civs though (Aztecs).
REALLY? Ugh, I HATE the Aztecs. They are always the first to declare war on me: which also makes them the first to go.
Optimusprime240 Can't tell if that is racist or not...
Alex Fresz Its not lol. It means that anyone trying to fight me will lose..... VERY quickly...
Where's the fun in that?
should i buy it¿
go to humblebundle.com!!!
nomad9095 Thank you, I just sold my soul to sid Meier for $15
When you interrupt someone's Civ V session. 0:54
Wasted all day on this and was still nowhere near victory :I
***** This is why he is one of my main choices in nations him and Otto Von Bismarck.
