The Tiniest Pure 24K Gold Cuban Link We've EVER Made!

  • This is the first 24K Cuban link chain we've ever made AND the smallest too! Oh, and it was also such a pain to finish, that we probably won't make another one ever again LOL!
You can also use our calculator (link below) to configure your perfect gold chain.
    www.crmjewelers.com/cuban-lin...
This particular chain was made from an assortment of pure gold bars, including five 1-oz bars, two 10-gram bars, and one 50-gram bar. There was 1-oz bar that we had already flattened out for another project to engrave a QR code on it. All in all, the gold bars added up to 225.2 grams of gold, but by the end of the video, after the extra gold weight was filed off, the final chain weighed 105.5 grams and was 6.5 mm wide.
Making gold Cuban chains by hand take a lot of time, work and dedication, but at the end of the day, the quality of the end product is much better than that of machine made chains, as you'll see on the video.
Here are the main steps to making the chain:
00:00 Pure gold bars used to make the chain.
00:14 Melting gold with torch and pouring into ingot mold to make bar.
00:59 Stretching gold bar with rolling mill to form wire of proper gauge (includes annealing).
02:17 Forming and cutting the links for the Cuban link chain.
04:26 Connecting and soldering the solid gold links.
05:30 Twisting chain to flatten and align the links.
06:43 Gluing chain with Shellac glue to board, then filing down to give the chain the characteristic flattened look of a Miami Cuban link.
8:22 Polishing the chain, welding the two end links together, and applying finishing touches.
    10:15 Final chain weigh in.
10:22 Betty gets to try on the finished chain. How does she look?!
Let us know what's the tiniest gold chain you'll ever wear in the comments below.

Guys, if you want to play around with different Cuban link chain sizes to see how the final price of the chain is affected, you can use the Cuban link calculator on our website. There's also a mobile version (Android and iOS version of the calculator that has a selfie option with 3 popular chain sizes. You can find that on our website as well. I love watching the Cuban link chain creation process. It's a true art to me and the craftsmanship in this video is amazing. 22k/18k Micro Cuban links might be the new trend, especially those that like to subtle flex. Much easier for every day wear and to travel with. Never say never about creating another one. Y'all might've created a new market for ladies who don't want all that weight on their neck with a 8mm or bigger but want to rock one daily. Heck, I'm interested in one for my son now, instead of ordering something similar to rose gold cross. Love it!

Right? This should be the standard for smallest chain, why bother wearing such tiny thin chains that will snap and break over anything and so tiny that the links don't matter from being so thin and dainty that you can't even see what type of link it is unless you got a jewelers loop.

great video, CRM! did you "lose" ~120g of gold in the process to make the chain? the final product is much lighter (I mean, I know it's going to lose some weight, but I didn't expect that much 😂)

    • @Crmjewelers

You file the extra weight off to make it flat. You use all the filed gold for other projects.

i have been a professional jewellery repair man for 55 years. I am now retired. I have made a medic alert braclet using the Cuban chain pattern. We call it Curb chain. The big difference was we had to use a manual roller, pull the wire through the draw plates using physical strength and twist the chain by hand in a vice with vice grips on the opern end. Other than that it was a very similar process. M
we did not do too much manufacturing but did a lot of repairs, alterrations ,diamond seting and stone setting and complete rebuilds of engagement rings which were very old and worn out. I was wondering what karet of solder you used and what was the hardness of the solder [easy.medium or hard] on the 24K chain..

I've seen that there's actually a difference between Cuban and Curb per fashion designers - Cubans are generally thicker/heavier with less room inbetween links than a standard curb. I'm doing a lot of researching because... Well, my brain went "what's the difference?" and that is the answer I found.

    • @roringusanda2837
      @roringusanda2837 Год назад

Much of it is filed off. But the shavings are swept up and used to make other things. There's so much filing down to make this shape of links, that it ends up about half of what you start with.
