Dave did you find the on/off and instant record switches quite stiff to activate (so difficult to feel with gloves). I've just seen that the remote for the Action 2 works with the 3.
Great video Dave, just received my DJI mic, look forward to using it with my Action 3 and X2, must get back to upscaling my editing skills, there’s a long way to go😉
I feel your pain with the gopro. I have just got the action 3 and it basically kicks gopro in the nuts for reliability and usability and I haven't had a single screen freeze, corrupted file, failing to connect with my iPhone to view the camera angle through the gopro app...etc etc etc I could go on. Quality is slightly behind the gopro but I am willing to forgo that. Right, audio with the Action 3 , would you still got with the DJI home grown wirleles mic, have they proved reliable and is the audio still good for motovlogging. I have tried using my rodes go wireless Mics via a usb c cable, although it works, even with -16 db's set on the Dji and low db set on the rodes go mic, audio still is clipping at above 30 mph after numerous position tests and all that. Very informative video and wonderful scenery. Regarding frame rates, I'm a bit confused when it comes to the videos bitrate. When you choose 60fps over 50fps are the recorded images of a lesser quality to maintain the overall bitrate or does it preserve quality and thus raise bitrate? Thanks :)
Hi Mark, the bitrate only changes when you change codec (HD or 4K). Shooting 60p is slightly better quality than 50p but definitely noticeable amongst the pixel peepers but the bitrate stays the same in 60 as it is in 50.
@@WheelieGoodTV Thanks Dave - but that's what I don't understand. It's saving 10 more pictures a second of slightly better quality but at the same bitrate? Or is it a perceived thing?
Excellent info there Dave.👍 Btw TMF on his latest trip has mentioned the problems he"s had with the GP. I think DJI are on to a winner with their cameras and mic systems for moto bloggers. Thanks again for putting this content out for us.👍
Hi Graeme, yes I saw TMF was experiencing the wrath of GoPro which must have been so frustrating on an epic trip like that. I agree with your comments about DJI but they still have to fine tune their picture quality although when the 10bit firmware upgrade comes along in October I’d say we have an absolute game changer on our hands. Appreciate your kind words Graeme.👍🎥
Love it Dave, so informative as ever. I see you have broken the 6.5k barrier and climbing👍. Arrived home yesterday and just about getting over the Jet Lag🤮. Will talk very soon, be well and keep em coming.
Did you have the receiver plugged in to your action 3 or did you just record to the mics on board memory and sync it up later. It sounded good with the exhaust note also being picked up nice. How did you situate your mic and how did you have the mics sound preferences set up (gain settings)?
Plugged into the Action 3. I had mic setting down to -12 also receiver -12. The new camera software update allows you to dial down the mic sensitivity which is new rather than at zero. So now I have mic and receiver both at -8 and camera at -5. I keep bass cut OFF. Vid coming soon about all of this.
Hi Dave, great video with a lot of helpful tech info, and I'm please to say I understood it all 🙂I hope you don't mind a question about frame rates? I'm very new to motovlogging and have been using 4k 60fps as that's what everyone else uses. On a recent ride, I went past a pub with exterior lights and when I watched the footage back, they were strobing really badly. My first thought was that I should be shooting at 50fps for the UK but then I wondered why no one else seems to. As I want to start doing travel type videos, where some of the footage may be shot indoors, it makes sense to me to always shoot everything at 50fps to avoid having mixed frame rates on the same timeline and ending up with glitchy footage and dropped frames. What are you expert views on this? I can't get my head around why everyone seems to use 60fps in the UK and Europe?
Hi, good observation. Yeah everyone seems to shoot 60fps even in Europe. In fairness the quality is noticeably better than 50fps and since it’s not being broadcast on TV then all online portals will accommodate without any technical issues……that is unless you film electric lights!🤣 GoPro and others now have a frequency setting rather than Pal/NTSC setting but essentially it’s the same thing and based around electric current from the days of film. Basically, if you’re filming an electric light source in the UK or Europe then the electrical frequency is 50hz and the frame rate should be 50fps to match this pulse. In USA it is 60hz so 60fps should be used as this is why these frame rates were invented. Nothing more annoying than watching a garage video in the UK shot in 60fps!!🤪🤯
@@WheelieGoodTV thanks for your reply Dave, it is really appreciated. I think for our upcoming tour to Ireland I'll stick to 50fps, so I can shoot footage if I happen to find myself inside a pub with lights on! 😆
Great video! Really happy I found your reviews and channel as I've been looking for a wireless Mic setup for motovlogging and interviewing and while the DJI mic is a more premium price compared to others, your reviews have reassured me it is worth the investment. Keep up the great content. You've gained yourself a happy subscriber from the USA!
Great content, well presented, convinced me what to go for (action 3) at last. But I've seen some post about a focus problem on some 3s! taken months to make up my mind Ha. When did you get your action 3, just wonder if its a batch that's iffy or is it a fuss about nothing?
Thanks Ian. The focus thing is a fuss about nothing. Any lens at fixed aperture of f2:8 is going to struggle focusing close up (less than 50cm). It’s not an issue at all with my uses for the camera. This setup is the best I have ever used and 100% reliable so far.
Hi Dave, when you have recorded an extra track in the DJI Mic (Rec button at the side, and the red light on), how do you link the soundtrack to the corresponding video in post?
It’s a simple hand clap in front of camera as well as the mic hearing you. I use that when I need to do this but I’ve only ever needed to do this once.
Wow... Thanks so much for your videos on the DJI mic and the Osmo Action 3. What a wealth of info, you saved me so much time and aggravation. I tried a few wireless mics, but all were junk. The DJI mic is such a amazing piece of work. Its so easy to set up, and like you said the mic is almost too good. I will try the gain at -6 and low cut off. Its sill great and a game changer for me. I don't like cameras on my helmet, but If I ever decide to go that route, its the Action 3 for me... To many horror stories about the go pro. I don't have a big channel, but I will be sure to plug your channel on my next video with the DJI mic... Again, thank you!
Many thanks Yo Ken! You will like this weekends video on Saturday morning. I’m starting a camera masterclass and the first episode is all about the Osmo and DJI mic. Enjoy!👍🏍🎥
Having tried and failed a while back to love the GP Hero 8, I much enjoyed your "rant" about that company and agreed completely with everything you said. I'm amazed that reviews generally avoid commenting on the reliability problems and will instead focus on the "picture quality" ... to which I would add "on the rare occasions in which the camera is actually working". One question and one request (for now). How secure is the attachment of the DJI mic receiver to the Action 3? Now that 10 bit color is available, would you perhaps be willing to share one or more of your favorite LUTs? I'm completely at sea when it comes to color grading and would love to learn more about it.
Hi Daniel, the mic is very secure as it clips in. On longer journeys I’ve placed a small rubber band around both units to be sure but never any problems. I’m still experimenting with luts for the log footage and it does look superb. Happy to share my knowledge and more vids very soon on this topic.👍🎥
Thanks Dave, a very useful video thank you. I've always struggled to get decent in helmet audio, so this is one to try out for me. I've just done a 10 day tour around Europe and have had loads of issues with a gopro hero 9 and 10, battery issues, freezing etc. Maybe time for me to make the switch? I'm also old school and film at 24fps. I might also start recording ona separate device like the Zoom F2, any thoughts on that would be appreciated.
Thanks! Watch my previous video when you get the time as it is a proper review of the camera and mic working together. I feel your pain with GoPro and hope you didn’t lose too much footage.👍🏍🎥
One thing though. I think I watched the whole video hoping you would show how you set up the helmet mic system in this video. Would love an update that goes through this as well as the sound was very good in this! 😊 Keep up the good work! Love to see a professional doing motorvlogs I have learned a lot from your videos already!
Hi, thanks for sharing the detailed test. I'm willing to buy DJI Osmo Action 3 + DJI Mic set for the purpose of recording my tours for memory. Compared to your setup I'm not gonna vlog, instead I want my Acropovic exhaust to talk instead of me without catching any wind noise. Have you ever tried to place the microphone anywhere on the bike or yourself for that purpose? Any suggestions on that? (PS I don't want to do any post production and I watch the videos back only on PC.) (Anybody on the comments can reply as well :))
Yes under the seat works quite well although somewhat muffled. I tend mostly to capture the air induction so I find mounting below the dash and in front of the fuel tank by taping it on works very well. I use the wind muffler and then mount the transmitter in sponge as well. 👍🎥
Thanks John. Yeah I’m sold on the 4K60 it really looks great especially when most of us are viewing on a phone. So the settings for the camera are 4K60, ultra wide lens setting and normal colour profile with rocksteady selected for the stabilisation. On the DJI receiver I have set both mics and receiver at -8 gain. Let me know if you need any further info. Cheers
@@WheelieGoodTV I’ve just brought the same set up and messing about with the settings I remember talking to you at the ABR festival I do a Mid Week Mumble on a Wednesday night 20:00-21:00 GMT If ya fancy coming on any week let me know would love to have you on with the rest of the guys on my lives as it’s just a chat with mates
We are really looking forward to trying our Action 3 on the bike although we have been getting good results with the Insta 360onex2 in single lens as main camera. I'm again going to experiment with the Rode Go2 wireless microphones in conjunction with the Action 3 to get our duel on board audio onto the camera's audio track to save syncing up later.
I love 60 fps with 1/60 shutter. that's the smoothest motion blur you can get! it's depending on if you like this blurry image, but I personally love it so much. I recommend to try it out :)
I’m afraid I won’t spend another penny of my own money on a GoPro product but if someone gives me one then absolutely I will compare every last pixel!!🤣👍🎥
@@WheelieGoodTV after you confirmed this is how it was supposed to work, I went searching and ended up resetting to defaults and reformatting my card. Works like it should now. Thanks!
I think the sweet spot now is ultra wide with the RockSteady stabilisation added as that crops in a bit but not as far as the wide setting. Works for me and my handlebar widths. 👍🏍
@@WheelieGoodTV Thanks for the speedy reply Dave. Sorry to mither you but can you still use the mic adapter while plugged into a powerbank or do you need an adapter of some sort.
Agree with your evaluation of GoPro … damn things freeze on a regular basis, esp. in warm weather. The images from a GoPro are so beautiful but a very unreliable camera. I tried all the “fixes” but the GoPros still freeze on me, again especially in warm weather on a motorcycle. I don’t have the Action 3 yet (I have 2 DJI Action cameras). Am looking forward to buying them. Nevertheless, I continue to use BOTH GoPro and DJI Action, but DJI is considerably more reliable on a motorcycle. Thanks/Cheers! Ps. I appreciate your sharing the technical info and settings.
@@albertnicholasjr9412 yes this is the wireless setup. I place the mic inside my snood at the moment and held in place by the supplied magnet on the other side of the fabric. I will do a video soon explaining all of this.
@@WheelieGoodTV thank you for your response I know I am getting the action 3 adventure pack. The wireless mic is a little pricey but I hear it is the best in the game for that price range. I am beginning not a professional. I pained over the action 3 to the hero black 11. Too many negatives from the go pro.
Great video and information don't worry about nerdy gives us all a chance to learn something new and experiment with understanding some of the technical issues. I was interested in the original osmo but the new one seems to have come on bounds and some of the new functions of the GoPro are just gimics. It still has heating problems too from reviews I have watched. So I might risk some of my hard earned on the new osmo keep the information coming Cheers Dave 👍👍👍
The picture quality seems to be very good Dave and if it’s getting praise from a professional and expert cameraman like yourself it must be ok 👍🏻.As I said on the previous video you did about it the sound from the mic is really clear especially with the ADX on because I know they are quite noisy comparing mine to my hjc helmet.
I wonder if you recorded with both transmitters?? 🤔🤔 Hear me out... • Transmitter #1 (w/ included deadcat) placed in helmet, recording your voice of course 🗣️ • Transmitter #2 (w/ heavy-duty deadcat) placed on bike, recording engine noise explicitly 🏍️ • Receiver set in stereo mode to adjust levels accordingly on separate audio tracks, all synced up with the same video footage 🎛️
Nerdy stuff is good, not many real broadcast pros are around giving us this type of info. I been a user of the original DJI Action since it was released and the counter is approaching 700 videos and can honestly say it has never let me down. Of course the exception is when this operator got it wrong but have always had a chuckle with successive GoPro releases and their various issues. Better picture quality is all well and good but useless if it lost due to tech issues. I am not a vlogger but record videos for my memory vault so it something for me and my family to look back on. Really pleased you finally have seen the DJI light 💡haha. I have just purchased the Action 3 so great to get a pros advice, loved the video 👍👍👍and indeed watched to the end. Oh just as an aside, we are still in Europe, we have not moved, just not in the EU club haha (this is not a criticism btw, it just made me chuckle)
Thanks bud, loved the comment at the end🤪. I will quote your phrase to many people who keep telling me the GoPro picture quality is better. Loved that and thanks for the message. Cheers 👍🎥

The framerate thing is really of the past. Current modern TVs can do both. And if watching from a PC / Laptop those are usually 60Hz or higher. But never 50Hz.
Audio and picture looks mint Dave, get that ND4 filter ordered once they become available and try that should sort the exposure out 👍 huge thanks for the shout out to my channel and much appreciated 🙏 Ill be off Moto Camping again trying a new perfect motorcycle 2 minute pitch tent this weekend and video drops Sunday at 4pm 👍 talk soon cheers again Nick
I follow your channel because you are the only one who goes to the nitty gritty of motorvlogging setups. So don’t hesitate in making a detailed video. I’m also constantly trying to find the best vlogging system. Especially the sound setup interests me most because that’s a pain to get right with these cameras that are not very good at it. Like adjusting gain on external lav mic is not possible with any camera that I know of. Stupid stupid stupid.
And so agree about the gopro. I have hero 5 and 9 and both are absolute shit. I will never buy gopro products again. The support is just like you said they are constantly saying that I have the wrong kind of memory card even though I have 10 different cards and the cameras are SHIT on every one of them. I think gopro might be going bankrupt and this is the reason they cant provide good products or support.
I saw your footage was not that smooth when you switched to 50 and 25 fps, and that is because your timeline of your video is 30 fps so uneven numbers is not ideal. Just some information if you didn't know that? RUclips show when a video is in 50 or 60 fps, but not in 30/25/24 fps. Also about 25 fps for us in Europe is mostly for our TV's and our 50Hz lights in houses, so it doesn't matter what we post on youtube. I use 60 fps for action (driving) and 30 fps for other outdoors recording (25 fps for indoors). Checked your newest video, there you have smooth footage with 60 fps timeline and recording.
I have to say, I’m just not convinced the video is all that great-maybe it’s your settings, but I’m struggling to decide…I recently cancelled my order of the DJI Osmo 3…now I’m leaning back towards the GoPro 11. Tough to decide. Thanks for all the videos you’re doing. Subbed!

Thanks bud, it’s a superb system! 👍🎥
@@WheelieGoodTVThank you, I did wonder if that was the case
Can you test the second mic with a passenger? If you manage to record both voices with no problem, definitely is the perfect setup!!
Yep it works perfectly with second passenger. 👍🎥
@@WheelieGoodTV Nice, I guess is time to upgrade my Osmo Action 1.
Enjoy!👍🏍🎥
@@WheelieGoodTV Great... looking forward to it. You are a good orator, I wish I had the gift.
I am always amazed at the roads you guys drive on over there!! Made for remote control cars!! Gives me anxiety 😂
Great vlog, was about to upgrade to GP11, Osmo 3 it is thank you
Glad I saved you the heartache Paul. Enjoy the way forward mate.👍🙏
Oh! I just noticed your last video about this! Now to watch that -> 😊😊
🤣🤣👍
@@WheelieGoodTV I think I'm gonna make a test like you to find the best spot. Thanks for the reply 👍
Hi Dave great vid what setting have you ended up using with the mic and camera ? Must get both off these 😀
Thanks John. Cheers
@@WheelieGoodTV thanks Dave keep up the great vids I’ll see how it all goes when I’ve got it all set up 👍
So what setting do you use now mate after a few months now
Transmitter reciever and on the camera db
-12 on receiver and transmitter. -8 on camera. 👌🎥
@@WheelieGoodTV I’ve just brought the same set up and messing about with the settings
I remember talking to you at the ABR festival
I do a Mid Week Mumble on a Wednesday night 20:00-21:00 GMT
If ya fancy coming on any week let me know would love to have you on with the rest of the guys on my lives as it’s just a chat with mates
@@thepeakybiker yep I’m up for that. I remember meeting you! Probably best in December as I’m flat out this month. Cheers.
@@WheelieGoodTV no probs mate is your email on your channel
We are really looking forward to trying our Action 3 on the bike although we have been getting good results with the Insta 360onex2 in single lens as main camera.
I'm again going to experiment with the Rode Go2 wireless microphones in conjunction with the Action 3 to get our duel on board audio onto the camera's audio track to save syncing up later.
Great video. Could you use the DJI Wireless system with the Insta 360 X3?
Thanks and yes you can.
I love 60 fps with 1/60 shutter. that's the smoothest motion blur you can get! it's depending on if you like this blurry image, but I personally love it so much. I recommend to try it out :)
Sir plz compare dji action 3 with go pro
I’m afraid I won’t spend another penny of my own money on a GoPro product but if someone gives me one then absolutely I will compare every last pixel!!🤣👍🎥
How do you stop the video with the receiver attached. It covers the button?
The rec button on top acts as a start/stop including powering the whole unit up and powering down at the same time.
@@niceguyrides yep it is a setting from what I remember. I’m not near my camera today so I can’t check I’m afraid. 📸
@@WheelieGoodTV after you confirmed this is how it was supposed to work, I went searching and ended up resetting to defaults and reformatting my card. Works like it should now. Thanks!
Great video. Im not a big fan of the ultrawide look. Makes everything on the sides look so far and distorted. Wide is the way to to imo.
I think the sweet spot now is ultra wide with the RockSteady stabilisation added as that crops in a bit but not as far as the wide setting. Works for me and my handlebar widths. 👍🏍
where in the helmet did you place the mic ?
Inside my snood against my cheek. It’s held in place with the supplied magnet.
I bought an action 3 this morning... I'm going to get the mic now tomorrow... Haha
Great setup!
nice video but why not use 60fps or 50fps?
🫣
So tell us what your really think about Go Pro. 🤣
Gorgeous ride as well. I liked the first setting the most.
🤣🤣😷 Cheers mate, I prefer that setting too.👍
@@WheelieGoodTV sorry it took so long to respond to the videos. It’s been a crazy couple weeks.
Is it possible to use the action 3 connected to a power bank while riding so you don't have to keep changing batteries ?
Yes certainly Tony. Works a treat. 👍🎥
Which microphone did you use in this video dji action 2 setup?
The DJI transmitter which has a built in mic.
@@WheelieGoodTV is that the wireless setup? Where I. The helmet do you place the mic so it is not too hot?
So I might risk some of my hard earned on the new osmo keep the information coming
Cheers Dave 👍👍👍
Cheers for the feedback Marc. Believe me, GoPro are doomed!
Thanks again Trevor. 🙏 ☕️
I wonder if you recorded with both transmitters?? 🤔🤔 Hear me out...
• Transmitter #1 (w/ included deadcat) placed in helmet, recording your voice of course 🗣️
• Transmitter #2 (w/ heavy-duty deadcat) placed on bike, recording engine noise explicitly 🏍️
• Receiver set in stereo mode to adjust levels accordingly on separate audio tracks, all synced up with the same video footage 🎛️
Currently experimenting with exactly this setup.👍🏍
Cheers 👍🎥

Ah Jeysus, just down the road from me folks!! Shame about the weather for your trip. Safe trip home and look me up next time. I had the week off this week.🤪👍
I know that I already need one of those tents!! If I buy another motorbike I might need one as my permanent residence!
@@WheelieGoodTV haha you have many bikes Dave, always room for 1 more with room for a tent ⛺️ 😂
Thanks man, I was really quite nervous of putting this one out so your comment (which is the 1st) has settled me somewhat. Appreciated 🙏🏍🎥
I didn’t know that about RUclips. Thanks for the info.👌
Subbed!
Hi, when the firmware update happens in Oct/Nov to make the camera 10bit I think that will seal the deal. 👍🎥
Btw you can not put different frame rates in a single video 👻
Correct but on a decent size TV you can tell the quality between 25/30/50/60 even though three of those frame rates will jump.
