I loved how feminism was handled in this movie: no man-hating - just pure equality (both Steve & Diana doing there best & having their ups and downs equally)
Karen C I know feminism has gotten a horrible rep recently due to all the feminazis but Wonderwoman takes feminism back to its roots - it aims for equality not man-hating :)
Sure but it'll take a lot more than 1 movie to fix feminism. I honestly think it's beyond saving at this point. Most of the rational women have fled and only the crazies remain (obvious generalization but you get the point).
Karen C ikr there's a crazy stat here in the UK where (rough numbers) 95% in women believe in equality but only 9% are 'feminists'. That's never a good sign.
Karen Carpenter but not patty Jenkins or gal. they both stated they hate the modern feminist archetypes that result in shitty characters like new ghostbsuters or maRey sue from episode 7.
I watched it today. DAMNNNNN WONDER WOMAN IS THE BEST SUPERHERO FILM EVER! So hopeful and powerful. This movie will give your life hope and I can't even find any thing that I don't like. Gal Gadot is so perfect along with Chris Pines. DC is BACK!
Grace one thing I noticed , was going back to BVS. The look she gives Lois as she approaches superman's dead body. I now understand why she looked at Lois that way . Having known what love is because of Steve Trevor , I think she saw herself in Lois at that moment as connected to the moment she saw Steve die and really identified with it. I also understand how now superman instilled hope ( superman being hope symbolically) back in to Diana to want to help mankind again . I believe she saw a little of Steve Trevor in superman . I'm very interested to see their interaction when he lives again. This movie was perfect for explaining where the woman we saw at the end of BVS is coming from and what her story and journey was. Great movie . Wouldn't be surprised to see Ares pop back up in justice league too.
I agree that she saw herself in Lois but i think see saw a little of Steve not only in Superman but also in Batman, in Superman she saw the ablity of Steve to sacrifice himself to save the world and by that means giving hope to it, and Steve had the sheer determination to try to end something much bigger tham him because he belived it was the right thing to do, and them there it was Batman, a simple, normal human fightning an alien monster because it was the right thing to do! If i had to guess she lost the faith in mankind whem the second war started, the fact that Mankind did the same stupid mistake again was what droved her to the loss of faith and what she saw in them maked her remember how good humanity can be!
José Pinto are you a batman fan , I'm just curious . I think what she saw in batman was what she learned about humans in this movie . That is that humans have good and evil inside of them. Batman is very susceptible to being evil. As shown in BVS . But he also had goodness in him. Superman was the one that truly inspired her , as he did batman Also.
Ares being british minister something is actually pretty clever. Not only he was propagating the peace treaty that would buy time for poison research, but its a good idea in general to show how deceiving the looks, the words and agendas can be - just another lesson for WW to grow up emotionally
one of my ABSOLUTE favourite things about the almost sex scene or whatever you wish to call it happened after the fact. it didn't cut to a scene of them trying to figure out what this meant for their relationship. Diana didn't turn into that typical desperate woman character after a one night stand. the greatest thing about them sleeping together is that they didn't even address it. it was just like, "that was lovely now let's prepare for war." sex doesn't always HAVE to complicate things as much as Hollywood likes to do that :)
i liked how he had a bit of a smile on his face and was content at the end, not sad and miserable, it was in character for him and showed he was a hero also.
So did Jack Nicolson for Batman, but they still killed his character. It's just done so you can bring them back if you want, but it's no guarantee they will.
My favorite line: "“It's not about deserve, it's about what you believe!" That your principles, in regards to evil, shouldn't be based on what they deserve, but rather based on the goodness, justice, and love that is right. The pureness of principle almost made me cry.
Good review Grace, however I don't think the reason the German soldiers smiled and hugged with the English at the end was because Ares' curse was lifted. I think it was genuine relief and happiness that it was all over. Most soldiers on the battlefield in World War I and II were just every day young boys who didn't want to anything to do with wars or killing. As pointed out poignantly in the movie, the generals sit in their safe offices while ordinary people die for no reason.
Faiyaz Amit yeah exactly. because the gas wasn't dropped, the armistice process continued and the war "ended." it was pretty much established killing ares really wasn't going to make man completely good, but it would give them a chance to stop the gas plan from going through and eventually end the war which is why they were all happy in the end and the soldiers had the feeling of relief.
Faiyaz Amit totally agree that's why they slowly showed them taking their mask off to show that they were young men fighting someone else's war a sense or relief that's over and grateful to be alive after millions of death and that explosive action scene
"I'm an actor, I LOVE acting. But...I'm the wrong color. We're all fighting our own battles Diana." That line took me all the way out. Especially being a person of color myself who also loves acting but knows I'll have a more difficult time in roles. This movie was actually quite conscious, but it was very subtle. It was enough to get you to open your eyes and think.
rex smithehiggins That's true. When Diana asked the red indian about his home and he pointed at Steve who was asleep saying "his people took everything". It was so subtle, so much history in the mankind world.
Then again, that's not true at all is it? Things have changed and victimism is not acceptable anymore, and that goes for women as well. It's time to put this mindset behind you and thrive to be the next danzel washington or morgan freeman. And you MUST put this mindset behind you if you want to achieve ANYTHING in life, otherwise you'll get stuck behind everyone else, just because you've convinced yourself that the "evil white supremacists" (aka any white man on the planet) are making it difficult for you. Come on... Take some responsibility and stop acting as if we still live in the dark ages. The world is what you make of it, remember that. And WE can change it, by being the individuals that we wanna see around us.
I'm from Israel and, obviously, we adore Gal Gadot. I watched the movie in a late night screening, and the audience was FULL. The crowd applauded at least 10 times, from excitement both towards Gal Gadot, but also for Wonder Woman herself and the movie itself.
Awesome review Grace! But I disagree about the role of the supporting casts. It felt like the Amazons served the purpose of representing the black and white view the world that Diane was coming from, and Steves crew represented what the world actually is. Liar, smuggler, murderer but all for a reason and it didn't make them bad people.
Guys can totally be friends without being gay BUT Cap & Bucky undoubtedly have some sexual tension. I think it's funny that I'm not the only one who can see/feel it when I see them on screen.
fun Fact: The thunder in the movie is actually Ares summoning the Lightining of Zeus and WW used it against him. I know they didnt explain it in the movie which kinda sucks but overall its pretty good.
I understood the reason for Ares pushing the armistice so much under his British politician guise was because, historically, the real life armistice that ended WWI is generally regarded as one of the elements that led to the rise of Hitler and ultimately WWII by being too focused on vengeance against the Germans rather than promoting peace for all. Therefore, Ares was actually sneakily promoting the continuation of war in the future by disguising it as a way to peace. I saw the film earlier today and I believe that he has a throw away line very briefly explaining this after his reveal, though it definitely could have been more elaborated on. Love your analysis!
Great example of how female leads should be portrayed to make good movies, make a good movie and use your characters to tell a good story. Not tell a story about a female telling a story. Good storytelling makes good movies regardless of gender.
I was surprised that the little girl who played Young Diana got to do as much as she did, I was expecting her part to be like a small cameo like with Rey's flashback in TFA but I bought her as a pretty good Diana I hope she gets more work and her career goes well
The biggest compliment I can give Wonder Woman is that it hardly entered my mind that I was watching a female super hero during my first viewing. I was simply engrossed in the human drama and action sequences. Wonder Woman worked as a Super Hero Action Movie period. The fact that she was female was just an interesting side-point.
Grace, I don't always agree with you, but this review, your thoughts on feminism, and your genuine understanding of said feminism, has earned my honest respect forever. I've always appreciated you have your own opinions, but woman to woman, human to human, thank you for this.
I'd rather they have a fancy end credit roll than an end credit scene. There were several that I made myself sit through a whole bunch of really boring white on black text scrolling on forever just to see a couple seconds of meaningless footage that didn't justify the time I'd wasted.
I was so blown away by this. I tried not to cry too much at the end lol. Even the battle scene when Diana saves the village got me teary eyed. The action, music, and emotion were all there. This goes to show that superhero movies need to be fun - MoS and BvS were way too cold and off putting.
Ivan Trevino - they don't need to, but if you want to resonate with mainstream audiences - outside of those familiar with the source material then it does need to. TDK was a very serious movie tone wise but the non-stop action is what made it fun. WW had humor and heart
Well, not her full power set. She found she can channel lightning (but not create it) and had a little flight and a burst of super speed. I was hoping the bracelets would come off and it would be revealed that, that is what was keeping her power in-check until she could properly wield it (like in Brian Azzarello's comic run). But that may still come.
Went to see it this afternoon with my daughter - Great film. Agree with everything you said. The villains were every bit as 'comic book' evil as I would expect and like to see. She is now asking to be a 'warrior' when she grows up! Mission accomplished I feel :)
Ares was with the British pretending to be for the armistice because he knew that igniting violence in the middle of a war resolution would lead to more violence.
Wonder Woman probably also works in a museum because not only does it connect her to her past but give her knowledge to what she missed when she was living with the amazonians
That was really one of the strengths of the film. It wasn't about showing how strong WW was compared to men. It wasn't about any nonsense of her "rising above" her gender. It was about putting a female in men's clothing to maker her an action star. It was just a man and a woman standing as equals fighting in a war. I was so happy that they didn't try to make a statement. Though I do think they make a very good statement by not making one if that makes any sense. WW's strength was as much in her compassion and beliefs as it was in her physical presence in battle. And she was allowed to be female the entire time. Turns out if you portray humans realistically during their human moments it makes the extraordinary moments even better. Good times.
Robin wright was sooooooooooooo good and I wish she was in the movie way more!!!! this week has been full of Robin wright for me as I watch wonder woman and the new season of house of cards and i just love her so much!!!!
Abigail Olds she was a great character, it would have been great to have her in there longer but she was never going to go to London with them, so either way she wouldn't have been in the movie any longer
Spoilers really don't bother me. I'll enjoy the journey even if I know the destination when it comes to this film. I love these kind of reviews from you and a few other RUclips personalities because you don't come across as critics so much but rather as fans.
I thought David Thewlis was inspired casting for Ares in large part because he isn't the stereotype of a martial deity. He even comments to Diana that he isn't what she was expecting, and the message is clear - Ares is the god of war, and throughout the bulk of human history war was not the preserve of some imagined warrior elite, but instead was the curse of the ordinary person on the street. On that basis, Ares shouldn't be some muscle bound brute or inhuman monstrosity, nor some vision of faux noble gallantry or martial skill. Instead, he should reflect the kind of ordinary people who have been forced to be at the sharp end of war for thousands of years. It is the masses of ordinary humanity who fight, bleed and die in most wars, certainly historical conflicts before the modern age, and even in many contemporary conflicts as well. It is also those ordinary people, forced to become soldiers by events beyond their control, who are so often driven to do terrible things by the exigences of war - who are made into monsters by circumstance, overwhelming fear and the hatred it breeds, or by witnessing one mind shattering horror too many. World War 1 itself was amass conscription conflict infamous for the death toll inflicted by trench warfare across scores of battle zones. Ordinary men given rifles (only sometimes with ammunition), a bayonet, a uniform, basic kit and truly minimal training, and then thrown into a nightmare meat grinder, and even those who lived and remained physically unwounded hardly came away unscarred. This version of Ares reflects that grim aspect of the reality of warfare by the very mundanity of his appearance, ad yet such is Thewlis' skill as an actor that he still imbues the character with immense screen presence and palpable menace despite his less than intimidating physique. They say a hero is only ever as good as their villain allows for them them to be, and I think Gadot's excellent Wonder Woman was well served by Thewlis' Ares in that regard in this movie.
I think the one big flaw for this movie was the final showdown with Ares was awful. Like the fight was so ridiculous how Ares was fighting her by just launching garbage at her for a majority of the fight instead of actual hand to hand combat. And I think the fact that he showed up at all kind of took away the value of Steve Trevor's POV. He was constantly telling her throughout the movie that humans are not inherently simply good/bad and it's not completely black and white. Ares showing up at all was proving that she was right all along and that humans are inherently good and his influence is what makes human beings do bad things - which makes Steve Trevor's beliefs wrong and his death less meaningful. I also thought the scene where the German soldiers started hugging it out was kind of stupid because it means they were completely under Ares influence the entire war. But even Ares himself said he only nudges them to do bad things, he doesn't actually control them. Overall the movie was alright up until Ares showed up, for me anyway.
I have to disagree with you on Steve Trevor's death scene being a negative. I didn't even recall Captain America dying in the plane. So, I don't see it as a negative at all. That's kinda irrelevant, tbh. Really loved the movie!
Agreed. I felt Steve Trevor's sacrifice has alot more emotional impact as watching his solo act of heroism to save the world in a midst of war-terror mankind is definitely gut-wrenching. Being a dude, my tears welled up when I felt Diana's emotional rage when the plane exploded which triggered her to launch into Goddess-mode. Steve Roger didn't die, he's simply frozen & c'mon given he's meta-human, do we really think he's actually gonna die following a string of sequel franchise movies plus Avengers movies, etc??
Ares was Terrific to see on screen. He had a presents over the film without even showing up(not many villains have done that, and not many movies would allowed it to happen), but when The GOD of War does show up, it is epic!! Made me wish he was a POV villain(nothing against Ludenduff&Dr. Poison, they are menacing and make a good duo, but they are no Ares). WW goes Beyond be a great CBM. Its a terrific film Period... Def 1 of the best if not the best origin stories told on film(WW, Batman Begins, IM, MOS).
Elz Robinson and how good was that climax when she chooses love instead of war. People in the theatre were in a EMOTIONAL WRECK they were cheering and clapping while having tears in there eyes at the same time. Thank you Patty Jenkins.
Oh I love the idea of Hades being her next villian, maybe finding a way to bring in Cheetah too! But to have her meet Hades and realize Steve Trevor is there and she might get a second chance with him..!! OOOooo! All the feels!!!
Actually Aries pushing for the armistice makes a lot of sense. The harsh treatment of Germany in the treaties at the end of WW I resulted in the Nazi party coming to power and WW II, the redrawing of boarders after both world wars resulted in pretty much all the other wars since. In a way Aries won even after being killed because he got exactly what he wanted, and it seems to me that the modern Wonder Woman definately realizes this but continues fighting for what she believes is right anyway.
I thought where Wonder Woman came upon a naked Steve, was great and intentional. Later when they sleep together, you don't want a total surprise of Wonder Woman not freaking out at having sex with a man. It was a way to prepare her and the audience for the sex scene. plus it brings their relationship to a deeper level, adding to the emotional relationship. That will also lead to the end where Steve dies, it will pull Wonder Woman's heart strings to her anger on his death, and his goodness of humanity through him. SO all good stuff.
32:03 I think that was totally fine because it showed just how young and naïve she still was at that point. This movie is basically a coming of age story for Wonder Woman and part of growing means seeing the world for how it really is and having childhood illusions shattered.
Wonder woman had phenomenal moments 1) Really good dialogue 2) Quotable one liners 3) Loved the lasso 4) The gods intro art style was mindblowing 5) Antiope and Hippolyta's motivation 6) Almost no plot holes... i saw just one in the beach fight... where did the german warship disappear 7) Excellent battle choreography... felt very organic similar to the Batman sequence in BvS 8) Perfect comedy bits
Anand Shridhar I'm not sure if it's a plot hole, but I noticed a huge scientific inaccuracy with the gas Dr. Poison was tasked to make. But hey. It's a superhero movie. I'll let it slide.
The new DC opening is actually phenomenal; incredibly reminiscent to the Justice League tv show, now updated and modernized. The panning out to the entire league... just breathtaking. Even after shaking with excitement from that brilliant few seconds, a cello plays the iconic E minor to diminish, and the goosebumps completely overtake me. Perfection, the set up was, simply perfection.
The musical pieces in this movie are phenomenal. The cues draw out the appropriate emotion at just the right time and in the right measure. Patty Jenkins and her team found the right formula to make this a wonderful film.
Ares wanted to create a peace treaty that humans could never keep (Treaty of Versailles) which set up World War II! Really the "peace" between 1919 and 1939 was more like an intermission or half-time to the same war rather than really peace. And by World War II the gruesomeness of war had already increased so much that it took the opening act of World War I's carnage and horrifically maximized it to previously unimaginably devastating levels.
When Diana asked to see the GodKiller I knew it was her and not the sword. I also didn't feel as though Ares was just plopped into the 3rd act. I saw that they were trying to misdirect the audience though I guessed who Ares was from the trailers. I thought they handled the character and his ways and motives pretty well. Him and Zeus, in the flashback story, reminded me of YHWH and Lucifer.
Kutlu Mızrak it didn't bother me either, as a fan of emotional storytelling. Wonder Woman hits its emotional notes perfectly so I'm willing to forgive it some convenient plot devices (for example: it is the Amazons' "sworn duty" to fight Ares and bring mankind together in peace, but then they choose not to join the fray when they learn about WWI? Wat? Lol)
When I saw it last night I really enjoyed it, but the more I think about it the more the film grows on me. I can't wait to see it again tomorrow night! Gal Gadot killed it.
I almost totally forgot to comment this but I am so glad that this movie is more about the equality of women and men. A lot of people like to think that feminism is about "oh we all hate men etc etc", and I've seen people with that ideology go into the movie expecting that. And i'm super glad you don't have that mindset.
Nobody stays dead in these movies, the actor was seen with Jason Momoa but what were they doing a scene just hanging out so many questions. so did Chris say he was done with the Steve Trevor role then why did he sign a 3 movie deal contract!!!!!
I know this is late, but one of my biggest gripes of this movie was the fact that they slept together in a warzone. That entire scene felt off to the seriousness of everything around it. I'd have preferred that they just had the chemistry and maybe just shared a kiss.
Oh Grace you were totally right, this is one of the best movies I´have seen in my life too, I wanted to cry at the end of the movie of the emotion of how great it is, not only as a movie it self, but for superhero movies, this one has stepped a level above, not only delivering in the visuals and action scenes but in the story as well, that has always been an issue to me with this kind of beacuse yes, I want to see great battles, but I want to identificate myself with the characters too, and this one definetly took me there.
It makes sense that Ares wanted an Armistice because the terms were so harsh that Germany had so much fear and anger that they let Hitler (who was a WWI vet) in charger ( point for Ares)
I was also surprised with the bedroom scene, but it was handled so beautifully and also lent a maturity to that relationship that was refreshing and so commendable, and heartening. When Chris Pine said to her 'I wish we had more time' it was really wrenching because this truly felt like a partnership, with a deep respect for each other, and that choice by Pine to stay the night was so considered, so confident on both their parts, it gave me faith that it was the right choice. I also loved that there wasn't a cutesy, cliche morning after moment. They just moved on to the important matter at hand.
I just saw the movie! It was so great. It's actually some of the smaller moments that made me smile on the way home. One of my favourite lines that really took me by surprise that it gave me such a warm rush of goosebumps was Diana's line to Charlie 'but who would sing for us' after he suggests that there is little point him being there.
I just got out of the theatre and I'm so excited this is up! I definitely agree it beat The Dark Knight for me too! Love your videos so much! Gonna watch this one now!
Spoilers, no spoilers- whatever. The bottom line doesn' t change and that is this- Wonder Woman FINALLY gets her own movie. And it just looks AWESOME!!! People need to see this movie.
This is one of the few male-female relationships where the 2 actually feel like equals. there is mutual respect and trust between these guys and their skill sets and knowledge compliment each other well. Steve Trevor never treats Diana like some prize to be won or some delicate flower that requires his protection, but as a strong, reliable asset and partner. Additionally, Diana never looks down on Trevor or coddles him, but recognizes his skill and intellect, trusting and learning from him. Even though it felt quick and short, it made sense to me and I bought it. Also, generally, I don't normally like Steve Trevor as he never seems necessary standing next to Wonder Woman, but he clearly showed his worth in this film. And though he said he was "above average", he felt closer to a real man than most heroic leads or co-leads in films. Someone struggling to do some kind of good in the midst and senselessness of war. I really enjoyed this film in spite all the flaws and hope that DC and Marvel put even more heart into future films
Hey Grace! Just watching your spoiler review for WW and I think I can help with Ares motivation... The reason he works for the British is to keep them aiming at peace talks whilst secretly helping Ludendorff and Dr Maru create total destruction. He's preventing the British to fight and concentrate on peace leaving Maru's bomb to be dropped without prevention
Love your vids Grace you've inspired me in my own you tube journey! Not many other reviewers seem as excited as you are reviewing this film, and i love it! Me and my fiancee just got out the theater and i put our reaction to the movie up, with a full review coming later! i really loved this movie alot!!! it did so many things perfect! I teared up a few times. People say Captain America:Civil war airport action scene was the best action scene...i think there's a scene in this movie that could top that!
I'd have quite liked it if they could have built Doctor Poison out slightly more by showing troop losses on the German side. If they'd made it that she was developing the gas to prevent people on her side losing their lives, then maybe Diana's decision about saving her at the end could have carried a bit more weight, since she'd have seen that there's nobody 100% good or evil in war and that (combined with Steve's sacrifice) could have driven home that it's all about the choices we make as people. Just something like a spat between Doctor Poison and Ludendorff at the gala over where to test the gas and her objecting to testing it on German civilians or something. Still, that's a very minor gripe at best, and I absolutely loved the movie!
i really appreciate that they didnt go the whole "woman breaks free of the mans grasp" route. It helps sell that shes actually a hero instead of a victim of men. I think feminism would have ruined this movie tbh. Just treat her as anyone else is
I have always really disliked the character of Steve Trevor. I thought that both in the original comics and in the animated series he was just some ordinary guy following Diana around, but who was really unexceptional and had no business being her partner. BUT I thought this version did a really good job of making him "average" but in a good way- in a way that truly balances Diana. When you're dealing with Amazons, gods, and global war, it really helped the story that Steve wasn't super-powerful, a genius, or a wise mentor. He was just a guy, doing the best he could. I LOVED the moment when Diana is in crisis about whether humanity is worth saving and Steve is basically like "I don't know if humanity is worth saving or not, all I know is this is a fight worth fighting." And I thought that was a really subtle, really powerful moment in a franchise that is infamous for bloated, overproduced movies. I think that throughout the movie Steve was Diana's connection to "average" people, and he was the one who really stopped her from becoming like Superman (i.e. really believing that being more powerful means that he is also morally superior.) I think a lot of the reason that I liked this Steve was the writing, but I think even more of it was Chris Pine. Overall, he definitely killed it.
I just saw this movie and I was never big on Wonder Woman but I thought this was absolutely incredible, the action, the humor, even the music left me ready for a sequel NOW
How do we not as moviegoers and members of our current society not fall madly in love with Wonder Woman, perfectly fit by Gal Gadot? The perfect match of INNER AND OUTER BEAUTY with strength and wisdom and learning from oneself and the other... well done. Agree that this is the type of feminism we need. Woman's strength and power coming forward in LOVE.
Hey Grace, thanks for your lovely review. I don't remember Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince ever having a romantic relationship. I think they briefly dated but nothing came of it and then remained good friends. I hope DC doesn't decide to go down that route. It would seem so out of place. I hope Steve comes back. I want him to come back. Diana and Steve's relationship is the most iconic in the comics in regards to her story. And I can't imagine why they wouldn't want to continue playing off of Gal and Chris's amazing chemistry.
Thought his sacrifice was greater because he meant so much to WW, how he showed her this world, why it should be saved.. and then he's gone and never to see a world together with WW.
I loved this movie so very, very much! I kinda feel silly telling people that they might want to bring tissues to a superhero movie, but honestly, I would have found them helpful! I was a blubbering mess during the V-day scene. And I almost *never* cry at movies. I cannot *wait* to see it again!
I loved how feminism was handled in this movie: no man-hating - just pure equality (both Steve & Diana doing there best & having their ups and downs equally)
So in other words.... there was no feminism in the movie

DC is BACK!
Chris Pine was perfect for that role. Definitely my favorite romance in a comic book movie so far.
sarah OMG! You're the same person from the Aquaman review! You must be a fan of Grace (like me)! Have you got round to watching Aquaman yet!
best line..."so that little thing tells you what to do?"
Joke would have worked either way. Clock or C*ck.
I liked "I am both frightened and aroused"
"I wish we had more time" - Trevor :'(

"I've killed gods before." That line always stuck with me.
Cassie Ogle I know right ! lol.
Ares being british minister something is actually pretty clever. Not only he was propagating the peace treaty that would buy time for poison research, but its a good idea in general to show how deceiving the looks, the words and agendas can be - just another lesson for WW to grow up emotionally

Am I the only one who almost cried when steve trevor and diana were separated and he dies 😭💔
Keane Tiay I did cry. The picture in the memorial too.
Keane Tiay It got me. I was boohooing.
i liked how he had a bit of a smile on his face and was content at the end, not sad and miserable, it was in character for him and showed he was a hero also.
is he really dead tho? I've read that Chris Pine signed a multi-picture deal
So did Jack Nicolson for Batman, but they still killed his character. It's just done so you can bring them back if you want, but it's no guarantee they will.
My favorite line: "“It's not about deserve, it's about what you believe!"
That your principles, in regards to evil, shouldn't be based on what they deserve, but rather based on the goodness, justice, and love that is right.
Faiyaz Amit I agree.
Yes, there were actual historical moments during WWI that soldiers took a momentary break from fighting each other.
Kirk Darling really? wow . thats really sad. War is just pointless imo
@@alexpaleale no
I'm from Israel and, obviously, we adore Gal Gadot.
I watched the movie in a late night screening, and the audience was FULL.
The crowd applauded at least 10 times, from excitement both towards Gal Gadot, but also for Wonder Woman herself and the movie itself.
יאללה! איזה התרגשות! I was also there, and it was completely packed. Will be going again
She is definitely a TREASURE.
Sefi Peri I love Israel! Gal Gadot is amazing in this film!
Gal Gadot is a Zionist
Sefi Peri No one ever clapped in my screening (except 2 DC fans at the end)
Awesome review Grace! But I disagree about the role of the supporting casts. It felt like the Amazons served the purpose of representing the black and white view the world that Diane was coming from, and Steves crew represented what the world actually is. Liar, smuggler, murderer but all for a reason and it didn't make them bad people.
"I just want to be with Bucky" hahahaha I bust out laughing 😂
javaan smith, ok but men can also be couple and not just friends. Infact we haven't seen no great gay hero yet. So people want some.
Guys can totally be friends without being gay BUT Cap & Bucky undoubtedly have some sexual tension. I think it's funny that I'm not the only one who can see/feel it when I see them on screen.
javaan smith I'm 100% a gay male. I'm actually like super gay now that I think about it. So, you got that right
Alex Penny Haha, I'm sure you loved the bath waterfall scene in Wonder Woman. I know I did!
and then she quickly said " anyways " lmao
fun Fact: The thunder in the movie is actually Ares summoning the Lightining of Zeus and WW used it against him. I know they didnt explain it in the movie which kinda sucks but overall its pretty good.
anyone that can actually put 2 and 2 together would know if they saw what was on screen
Don't forget that not only are the characters both Steve, but the actors are both Chris.
Autumn's Life why did you say that name
They're ALL named Chris!!!!
and both "died" in a plane and they are both captains
I'm pretture sure that at least 1/3 of the Marvel actors are named Chris
Autumn's Life omg 😂
I was surprised that the little girl who played Young Diana got to do as much as she did, I was expecting her part to be like a small cameo like with Rey's flashback in TFA but I bought her as a pretty good Diana
I hope she gets more work and her career goes well
The biggest compliment I can give Wonder Woman is that it hardly entered my mind that I was watching a female super hero during my first viewing. I was simply engrossed in the human drama and action sequences. Wonder Woman worked as a Super Hero Action Movie period. The fact that she was female was just an interesting side-point.
thats the most back handed compliment ever
Bayo106 How on earth is that backhanded.
And that is EXACTLY why this is a great film, and Ghostbusters was horrible..... Good story wins EVERY time.
I noticed she was female because OH MY GOD IS SHE BEAUTIFUL OR WHAT. But yeah, they did feminism the right way
Grace, I don't always agree with you, but this review, your thoughts on feminism, and your genuine understanding of said feminism, has earned my honest respect forever. I've always appreciated you have your own opinions, but woman to woman, human to human, thank you for this.
Logan and Wonder Woman two of highest comic book movies have no end credit scenes lol
I'd rather they have a fancy end credit roll than an end credit scene. There were several that I made myself sit through a whole bunch of really boring white on black text scrolling on forever just to see a couple seconds of meaningless footage that didn't justify the time I'd wasted.
Only Grace would avoid spoiling Santa Claus to kids in a Wonder Woman spoiler review lol
"She has like ridiculous hang time." 😂😂👍
I loved when Grace said that! definitely laughed
Tosh T 😂😂💯💯 She knows that slang talk lol
She's like Luigi from Mario Bros.
like princess peach from super mario 2 lmao
I was so blown away by this. I tried not to cry too much at the end lol. Even the battle scene when Diana saves the village got me teary eyed. The action, music, and emotion were all there. This goes to show that superhero movies need to be fun - MoS and BvS were way too cold and off putting.
they don't "need" to be fun. quit it
Ivan Trevino - they don't need to, but if you want to resonate with mainstream audiences - outside of those familiar with the source material then it does need to. TDK was a very serious movie tone wise but the non-stop action is what made it fun. WW had humor and heart
If you didn't see the new DC opening... Well... IT'S A DREAM MAKE IT REAL. Like Justice Unlimited. Find it, and if you love DC, you'll understand.
Tododesdemienfoque does it show batman and flash?
EVERYONE WHO WAS RELEVANT IN THE JUSTICE LEAGUE. EVEN HAWKGIRL AND HAWKMAN, GREEN LANTERN, MARTIAN MANHUNTER
Tododesdemienfoque Please tell me how was the Nee DC LOGO!!!
EVERYONE
It was so awsome i want to see it again!!!
So Wonder Woman realizes/discovers her full power set in the 3rd act and then goes "beast mode?"
Yep!
David S. If they go that route then they messed up in this movie cuz the ball scene where she's wearing a blue dress, she isn't wearing her bracelets
Yeah, you're right. Hmm. Wonder if that was intentional. Too bad, I thought it was a clever idea in the comic.
Im not going towatch this video because I still haven't watched the movie. Just came here to say you're awesome.
aw thank u! see you back here after the move! :)
Beyond The Trailer do you think there would have been a Wonder Woman movie if Man of Steel and BvS had been more successful?
React to Murder on the Orient Express
Went to see it this afternoon with my daughter - Great film. Agree with everything you said. The villains were every bit as 'comic book' evil as I would expect and like to see. She is now asking to be a 'warrior' when she grows up! Mission accomplished I feel :)
Hoozah bitches! She absorbs his lightning and fires it back at him . Last air blender style
Ares was with the British pretending to be for the armistice because he knew that igniting violence in the middle of a war resolution would lead to more violence.
You forgot that both Steves are named Chris.
Wonder Woman probably also works in a museum because not only does it connect her to her past but give her knowledge to what she missed when she was living with the amazonians
I didn't see the movie as a feminist movie or a girl power movie...I just saw it as an amazing awesome superhero movie.
Good times.
And that's why it succeeded and Ghostbusters failed.
Bradford Lounsberry funny thing is that Diana isn't actually human at all lol. Half god half Amazonian
+Hipster Unicorn As a superhero movie, it wasn't anything special. It is pretty much the same quality as Captain America: The First Avenger.
DC MOVIE REBIRTH LOOKS AWESOME!!!! THANK YOU PATTY JENKINS!!! LOVE WONDER WOMAN!!!!!!
I got the 'Titanic' feel when she narrates the story at the beginning and at the end.
Spoilers really don't bother me. I'll enjoy the journey even if I know the destination when it comes to this film.
I love these kind of reviews from you and a few other RUclips personalities because you don't come across as critics so much but rather as fans.
Just watched WW here in Australia and I gotta say, its fucking awesome!!! 9.5/10
I was waiting for this video for what it seems 10 million years! Love you Grace and your vids 😭❤
thanks for your patience! this was a big one! :)
Beyond The Trailer
Thanks Grace, you are awesome
She left her home to a another world she wasn't used to you to be acting weird if that happened to you to ever thought of it that way?
I have to disagree with you on Steve Trevor's death scene being a negative. I didn't even recall Captain America dying in the plane. So, I don't see it as a negative at all. That's kinda irrelevant, tbh. Really loved the movie!
Yeah the first Captain America was incredibly forgettable.
It was almost exactly the same and I rolled my eyes.
Elz Robinson i loved Ares' dialogue with WW throughout the final battle
It was terrific..
He was Dropping some truth bombs about humanity lol
Elz Robinson and how good was that climax when she chooses love instead of war. People in the theatre were in a EMOTIONAL WRECK they were cheering and clapping while having tears in there eyes at the same time.
Thank you Patty Jenkins.
The way he made his armour out of all that wreckage was badass af! And his voice was so cool and just... ahhhh!!!!
Taylor Riley It was fantastic!
The No Mans Land scene when she goes up the ladder and they show her in all her Wonder Woman glory made me cry. It was breath-taking.
To be honest, I have NO FLAWS WITH THIS MOVIE. It is VERY WELL MADE. Again, A 99.7% FOR ME. A BIG BIG WIN.
leroy kong well, you obviously find 0.3% of the movie bad.
leroy kong me too, cheers to Jenkins!
That is A VERY HIGH MARK. This Movie IS THAT GOOD. It should BE 3 HOURS LONG. I SAY GO SEE IT.
I know what 0.3 % is. there is some annoying Jump Cut on one some fast paced action scene. I found it uncomfortable at city fight and final fight.
I just saw it and I would compare it to the dark knight rises!
I dont think they can ever top the dark knight from 2008 in the dceu!
Oh I love the idea of Hades being her next villian, maybe finding a way to bring in Cheetah too! But to have her meet Hades and realize Steve Trevor is there and she might get a second chance with him..!! OOOooo! All the feels!!!
When Ares killed all the gods didn't Ares also kill Hades. It said Zeus was the last god left to go against Ares. Why would Ares leave Hades alive?
Actually Aries pushing for the armistice makes a lot of sense. The harsh treatment of Germany in the treaties at the end of WW I resulted in the Nazi party coming to power and WW II, the redrawing of boarders after both world wars resulted in pretty much all the other wars since. In a way Aries won even after being killed because he got exactly what he wanted, and it seems to me that the modern Wonder Woman definately realizes this but continues fighting for what she believes is right anyway.
Most inciteful comment here
Ares, not Aries. Aries is a sheep. Ares is the god of war.
Wonder woman had phenomenal moments
1) Really good dialogue
2) Quotable one liners
3) Loved the lasso
4) The gods intro art style was mindblowing
5) Antiope and Hippolyta's motivation
6) Almost no plot holes... i saw just one in the beach fight... where did the german warship disappear
7) Excellent battle choreography... felt very organic similar to the Batman sequence in BvS
8) Perfect comedy bits
The ship sank.
I love love love this scene
Trevor: Diana, that's no man's land. You can't go there
Diana: it is my duty.
I love that they didn't go political
Comments by Shaun how could you guess who he was if he wasn't in the trailers?
CeeEemDee Dees the actor who plays him was in the trailer and I guessed right because I am that damn good!
Comments by Shaun I see he was in 3rd, which I didn't watch because I didn't want to spoil the movie with more scenes. Glad I didn't.
Wat? Lol)
I literally just got back from seeing it, i never wanted it to end and i wanted to see this review go on forever, can't wait to see it again!
When I saw it last night I really enjoyed it, but the more I think about it the more the film grows on me. I can't wait to see it again tomorrow night! Gal Gadot killed it.
you rarely see a movie and say 'wow, I actually got what I asked for".
This movie was awesome.
"I can save today, you can save the world"
correction "I can save today. You can save the world"
She works in a museum? That's very Highlander.
Matthew Ruch there can only be one.
Matthew Ruch oo
I just want to see her say with a tear in her eye, "Hey, it's a kind of magic!"
Matthew Ruch I just saw the film and I strongly felt a highlander influence, I'm surprised none of the critics picked up on it.
I really liked it however some of those "300" style special effects were a bit off putting
The ending got me so excited for Justice League
rip
Erebos yep the movie wasnt perfect in anyway
I almost totally forgot to comment this but I am so glad that this movie is more about the equality of women and men. A lot of people like to think that feminism is about "oh we all hate men etc etc", and I've seen people with that ideology go into the movie expecting that. And i'm super glad you don't have that mindset.
Its a movie with a female lead, big deal? Its been done before, lets not loose our heads.
"A BABY!" That part killed me, especially because I've seen friends do that with dogs 😂😂😂
I hope they bring Steve Trevor back in the modern day.
Degenerate Weaboo like Hailey Attwell as granny?
Degenerate Weaboo I loved the character but I thought he had a good end in this film.
Degenerate Weaboo No his death is now a part of defining WW.
the death is meaningful and sticks with you.
Nobody stays dead in these movies, the actor was seen with Jason Momoa but what were they doing a scene just hanging out so many questions. so did Chris say he was done with the Steve Trevor role then why did he sign a 3 movie deal contract!!!!!
I'm glad that you addressed the new DC logo opening for the DCEU, it instantanously reminded me of the of Justice League Unlimited and I LOVED IT!!
I watched it today! It was glorious!!! I don't think I'll ever forget watching this for the first time.
If you like DC's new intro logo then give me a "HELL YEAH".........
chinmaya pattnaik hell yeah
I actually somehow didn't notice it... >.>
Grace,
Ares' character of the British diplomat is a commentary on the appeasement of Hitler by Chamberlain before WWIi
Hippolyta lied to Diana on purpose. She said "The more she knows, the better chance he (Aries) has of finding her."
The Goodbye scene was really tearjerking!
Can't wait to see what Snyder did with those Amazon in JL
Nothing good.
Little did you
Little did you know
I am going again
I just got out of the theatre and I'm so excited this is up! I definitely agree it beat The Dark Knight for me too! Love your videos so much! Gonna watch this one now!
Tylor B. me too. was excitrd to see the tweet!
Spoilers, no spoilers- whatever. The bottom line doesn' t change and that is this- Wonder Woman FINALLY gets her own movie. And it just looks AWESOME!!! People need to see this movie.
chris pine was dope in this movie
It is still worth the watch not just once, not just twice .... over and over!!!!
I didn't understand how she knew all those languages, yet unaware of the all the people and countries those languages came from. Weird.
I just saw this movie and I was never big on Wonder Woman but I thought this was absolutely incredible, the action, the humor, even the music left me ready for a sequel NOW
Grace: *talks about sex frequently*
Grace: *timid to talk about the "santa" secret*
How do we not as moviegoers and members of our current society not fall madly in love with Wonder Woman, perfectly fit by Gal Gadot? The perfect match of INNER AND OUTER BEAUTY with strength and wisdom and learning from oneself and the other... well done. Agree that this is the type of feminism we need. Woman's strength and power coming forward in LOVE.
but, was steve trevor a virgin? i think so. the script seems to hint at it.
Not by the end of the movie
Saw the preview yesterday, loved it and can't wait to go see again!
I really liked the "Goodbye Brother" line!
I liked that you knew there was love between Steve and Diana but didn't need to be in the forefront throughout the entire film!
I fell in love with Steve Trevor. I am so sad that they didn't get to get married have babies until death did them part.
I loved this movie so very, very much! I kinda feel silly telling people that they might want to bring tissues to a superhero movie, but honestly, I would have found them helpful! I was a blubbering mess during the V-day scene. And I almost *never* cry at movies. I cannot *wait* to see it again!
