I have never clicked so fast!! I’m a SD and find it so hard to dress in Summer! Clothes seems to fall into two categories: basic, tighter summer pieces end up looking too “sexy”, and wearing light, loose pieces looks “bulky”. This is so helpful, thank you 😍🥰

I’m always so amazed how for SD a kaftan style/kimono style is always recommended because my entire life I’ve always been drawn to those looks. I look my best in my bathrobe because it’s that T shape kimono look! It works SO well on SD! I started buying silk or sheer bathrobes that look like tops and wearing them out as tops, and it looks so nice on SD. The batwing sleeve is the soft dramatic must have! T shape!

Does anyone else struggle with finding 100% cotton or breathable clothes? On top of that, I dress modestly. I find it incredibly challenging to find pieces made out of natural fibres, complimenting my body type, being modest and not too pricey.
And I would prefer to shop in stores physically, as I could see directly how a piece fits me. The stores, that are available where I live, only carry the current square shaped fashions.

Ten years later, I went for a fitting for the first time. I found a french company called Simone Pérele (VERY expensive). I've been waiting for this. THANK YOU!!! You've made such interesting points:
    - Like most SDs, wider looks make me look bulky that's why I never want to size up, but there are times, as you explained, when sizing up can actually be a good strategy, damn. With summer tops with ruffles or t-shirts, yes!
    - High-waists. I had never understood why sometimes high waists didn't work for me and made my breasts and head look disproportionate. That's because that particular high-waist look is too high. Gotta find the right balance!
    - Show something narrow when you're wearing chunky shoes. Will try!!
    - Skirts for SDs. Thanks to Kibbe theory I can now find skirts that look good on me. Gotta dress for them curves and not go to the puffy side, hehe! ♥
I'll definitely look at your recommendations!!

Much of the time, I end up creating a box on top, and never realized I shouldn't be creating a box. But I think I can pull things from this; I often feel like I should wear things tighter or closer to my body, so I naturally tug and fuss with my clothing as I'm wearing it, and I can be very self-conscious. I can do simple things like a center tuck and leaving the sides/back of the top loose and relaxed, or wear things a little oversized to look more draped. I feel like it's tough trying to find something soft and relaxed but with enough structure so we're not going into natural territory, where I feel "comfy" but like I'm hiding my body and losing my waist.

Aly, I guess I inhalted almost each of your SD videos. And I learned a lot about myself. I would not recommend a wrap dress for SD. It is diffult to manage the difference between waist and bust area. Even if the fabric is very elastic it does not look good. A straight dress, a bit loose but not oversize with a soft and elastic fabric and a belt in the waist look way better on me. I sewed a couple of dresses and they always look very good. ❤ ⏳

I love all the information and everything Kibbe that Aly does but at the same time I feel like she doesn't fully understand how it is to dress a curvy figure. The wrap dress example at 1:15 on the left is not good for a larger bust which many SD have, it will make us look much heavier and sloppy/saggy, it looks more fitting for a Natural type maybe that is more even in proportion, tight/dry instead of fleshy and more relaxed vibe?
at 13:12 is another misunderstanding about curves, a rib knit dress in a size too large will make an SD look like a puffy tube even when underweight, very unflattering. It clings to the curves (bust, hips, bum, tummy) yet hides the contrasting slimmer parts (ribcage, waist, lower back). A dress that is bought from a store that uses Classic measurements for their garments will absolutely be too stretched out over the curves if it fits the waist, but the solution is not to go larger, it's to find something different or make it yourself.

I think I’m closest to a soft dramatic. I’m very curvy, especially on the bottom half of my body. My bust makes it more complicated since I have very few curves there (looks even smaller since I’m 5’10” so the proportions are off). So it’s like my top half fits more with dramatic and my waist down is more soft dramatic.

Just a soft dramatic here waiting to find a wrap dress that fits my chest and sits at my actual waist, not an inch under my boobs 😅 I love the suggestion of sizing up in tops though!

As a 6'3" busty SD, I have the same issue. Nothing fits. I recently found Irene Butsch's channel here on RUclips. She shows how to turn scarves or rectangular lengths of very light fabrics and into custom fitted dresses. I absolutely love it!

I'm only 5 foot 3 but have curvy fleshy proportions - my face definitely fits SD and the way of dressing is what I've always gravitated to. This video has confirmed SD for me - this is exactly how I dress in summer to look my best. I could have written this!

Are you a Theatrical Romantic perhaps? Very similar to SD, except TRs have a much smaller frame. Not saying you aren't a SD, just that it's very unusual to be SD at 5'3".

Do we already know what type of shorts fit SD for summer? Shorts are oftentimes more convenient than skirts or dresses🙈

Does soft dramatic become dramatic after weight loss ?

No. Even stick skinny, SDs still look soft.

I am SD, but i don't agree that we look good in wrapped dress. I feel so fat and old in these. And everybody advice them. I feel/look good in long dresses, big and wisible shoulders, maybe deep cuts on the lower part of dress.. But, wrap NO.
I don't like that we look, most of the time "over dressed" or too elegant.

I am SD too & I can say that everything wrapping is really work good for me. Not only dresses - blouses, etc. About the overdressing - there are a lot comments about it under the video about minimalism. So many SD-Lady's agreed there that minimalism didn't suit them well, even if aesthetically they would like to wear that style. And beside it everyone has their own proportions, maybe you are the SD that is drier and narrower, elongated than another SD? Or maybe you are not SD at all, but FN or DC, something like that?

@@skyisover7177 yes i am, look like Sfia Loren. I was following Aly before she moved to USA, and i asked her. I was thinking that my face is classic, but she told me even my face is SD. We all have different personal style, but she gives usually good advices.

I just left the same exact comment lol. I get the "idea" behind why it should fit us, but it just doesn’t. I feel HUGE in wrap dresses.

The Diane von Furstenberg fitted style wrap dress in a thin knit is perfect for me, and I have too avoid any wrap dresses in thicker or stiffer fabric, or with too much floofy fabric on top. Not all wrap dresses are created equal, are they? I had a wrap dress once in chambray, and it was terrible. The fabric was too thick and added at least a whole size to my appearance. I wore it once and that was enough.

    • @corinnew6569
      @corinnew6569 Год назад

I love wrap dresses, but only without ruffles. I can't wear ANY ruffles, ever without feeling like Andre the Giant in a tutu.
Maybe try a very light, flowy fabric in a wrap dress without ruffles or print?
