RIP John. Loved watching these as a nipper. Fishing light, roving rivers like John used to is true fishing.

This was probably my favorite programme JW did for Go Fishing. I'd never even heard of the Mahseer, let alone a Golden one...
Somewhat puts my Barbel fishing into perspective.

It takes great skill to play a big mahseer while simultaneously paddling down a fast, rocky river in a coracle and playing the sitar. "Absolute magic ".

Yeah, the only thing was John wasn't paddling the coracle or playing the Sitar !! 😃

Cant knock the bravery, going out in that boat without a life jacket, into that river, with that fish on the end. Looking back now thats insane hahaha

I remember John telling me to get the different camera angles (one camera crew) they filmed him playing a bucket tied to the line after he released the fish :)

They grow a lot bigger, i know they've been caught over 200lb. I'd hope they still grow that large and i think that Jeremey Wade guy had an episode about them.
