I remember watching this when it aired on TV and thinking back then, "I've never seen a better catch of any species of fish." Even today, nearly 30 years later, I still haven't. JW wasn't just an angler. He was a naturalist too and fantastic to watch. RIP you great man. A legend and sorely missed by millions.
I grew up watching this man on tv early on Saturday and Sunday mornings and my 6 year old watches all the dvds hes made with the same excitement his legend will live on for years and years R.I.P 😢😢😢
What I’d give to fish a virgin venue like that !!!!! Props to John Wilson his delivery passion and not just knowledge to fishing but knowledge of nature around it was unmatched in his era x
R.I.P John You inspired more people to care about the outdoors and what lies beneath the surface than anyone I know. Angling suffered its biggest loss today. You will be missed and never replaced
Always a joy to watch. Had the pleasure to meet him in His shop In Norwich many years ago. had all the time in the world for you. A true legend up there with Jack Hargreaves my schoolboy favourite who got me started fishing. Both greatly missed. May they both R.I.P.
I don’t even go fishing but I love watching his tv programs. He makes it so enjoyable as he has so much enthusiasm. I might just get a rod and give it go thanks for the inspiration Mr Wilson, God bless you sir
I'm 50. Now living in NZ but was born in London. John Wilson was my fishing hero. How he enjoyed EVERYTHING about fishing was exactly what I loved about fishing.
Grew up watching John Wilson. His passion for fishing and ability to catch any species using any method , and of course his infectious laugh will never get old
Proper angling legend, was doing it long before fishing became popular and still managed to get on TV!! Will be sadly missed but all his videos and his laughter will live on!
I know it's late and I can't believe I didn't know but today, I think is my saddest day after my jack passed (jack the Russel) I've tears rolling down my cheeks for a man I have never met but have so many memories. After my father this man is the reason I fish and do so with a passion not just for the angling but also the environment I choose to spend my free time enjoying, and very much in thanks to John Wilson, so much more than another vlogging rep talking about rigs and bait, a wealth of knowledge at least recorded for all time. Even today when I hook a fish my first words are "we're in" bless this man and all he stood for. ♥️💔
love how he gets excited over bream...whoever got excited over a bream? but brings me back to when i was a kid and used to scour the angling times and mail every week and i didn't care what the fish were i loved them all. RIP mate you were some angler...thanks for the memories.
My uncle once had a catch of 11 bream for 97 lbs, from Kingsbury water park, in the late 1990's. Sadly, it no longer seems to produce such catches but it was sight to behold.
RIP John, was sad to hear news that you had passed. Thank you for the amazing programmes you made, I remember watching them as a child, ohh I'd love to catch one of these monsters!
Truly an exceptional all round angler!! I grew up watching go fishing as a youngster and never missed a single programme, watching these clips brings back great memories!
Reminds me of an unbelievable days fishing me and my parents enjoyed. I was still a child and it was in Ireland, over from England during summer holidays. We had a whole net full, all fish bigger than anything we had previously landed. Great memories
He always gave me the imspertion to go fishing he will be sadly missed my heart goes out to his family. R.I.P. Wilson Ps even to this day I find myself saying when iam fishing ( well wot s this then).
Bream are one of my least favourite freshwater species, but these fish really are something else. Fantastic looking specimens and a great piece of angling film.
There's a pond in the new forest you can do this, I only had one under 10 at 9 3/4, the other 12 were up to 13.4lb and it was from the bank. Never had a morning like it before or since, took them mainly on the drop with 2 1/4 bottom on an 18 hook and caster. I know how he feels, it's an absolute buzz.
blickling lake in norfolk holds some monsters, lake record 18+ i had my pb out of there at 12 and a half. my pb before was 7 and me and my mate were catching a personal best almost every cast
John 😢 you will always be the best to ever do it. the complete all rounder, you were to coarse fishing what Steve Irwin was to crocodiles. what usain bolt is to sprinting. what colonel Sanders was to fried chicken. I hope you come back reincarnated as a big chunky barbel on your beloved river Wensum. 🙏
Seen some big dustbin - lids, but never the thickness of that, wish my old man was here to see this, when he were'nt after chub and Barbel, he was after these slimy lid's.
Just a day ago I caught my first ever carp, after a lifetime of fishing for everything but carp. It took a pellet on a waggler intended for tench. Weighed in at 9.5lb. The fight on 3lb line and a barbless hook lasted a good 20 minutes despite the fish trying to bump the hook out repeatedly. I adjusted the drag constantly throughout the fight and after watching this video just now, I've realised that it must be a tip I subconsciously picked up from John Wilson during all the years I watched his television programmes as a child, in the 80's and 90's. That and kneeling during the fight. Fortunately, my first carp was witnessed by my little boy who's just 4, on his first ever fishing trip. He caught more skimmer bream than I could count on his cheap beginners whip. That would qualify as a red letter day I think, for both myself and my lad?
@@dean890 Not the estate, but the lake he fished is called Mickle Mere and its to the east of Thetford, look for the closest road to it on google and that road is part of the estate i believe, look for Dunford lane just to the right of thetford, dont just type in mickle mere because a nature reserve will come up and thats no where near this lake, if google hasnt moved on since i was last up there you can actually see the boat that wilson used during the filming, its had a new paint job but i can assure you its the same boat

Legend 👏
Wow, they are proper 'Dustbin Lids' !!
Makes you wonder if those bream are still in that lake, and what sizes they are now !?
The same fish are not there anymore as this was filmed in 1994, but the Bream in that lake are still of the same sort of size

Another legend lost
Legend !
Sad loss but a great video. Top angler and although the word legend is banded around too much, this man was one.
Seen some big dustbin - lids, but never the thickness of that, wish my old man was here to see this, when he were'nt after chub and Barbel, he was after these slimy lid's.
