@@AndrewSmith-ek4nc I would give Anthony, Kaitlynn, and Steven A's. I'd honestly hire them. Why? Because they're real. Anthony asked about salary and benefits right off the bat. I don't understand why this question off-puts a lot of interviewers because it's something that anyone would want to know. An interview is a two-way street. They're interviewing you but you're also interviewing them. I'd hire Kaitlynn because I value family. I saw nothing wrong with her talking to her mom in the hallway. She had a colorful bag. So what? And Steven was visibly nervous but isn't everybody nervous when in an interview? I don't think anyone is completely relaxed when they're being asked probing questions. I would give Marissa and Christa both F's. They both seemed very unprofessional in the way that Marissa came unprepared with her updated resume. For all I know, she could be lying about her new experiences. Christa was funny but I would not hire her because she seemed way too disinterested and out of it. Finally, I would give Todd a C. He may have been the most "professional" of the bunch but he just seemed fake to me. I don't want to hire a robot. I want someone with personality and realism.
He was by far the worst. He’s late, badly dressed and asks about me me me before the interview even begins. Sure, people like that might be ok for a high turnover role where he can be easily replaced but certainly don’t expect honesty and loyalty from someone who’s only interested in money and vacation time and who’s solely focused on his own selfish needs first and foremost. He’ll do the bare minimum on the job (if that) and he’ll most likely not offer any interesting perspectives for the company. People like him are most likely near the water cooler talking about why so and so gets more than him and his complaining, whining and gossiping will be non-stop. For a role that isn’t crucial, isn’t customer facing and that is an easily replaceable, paper pushing type of role, maybe...but not for anything else.
Getting good workers for customer facing roles is difficult. A person like Todd wouldn't be interviewing for some customer service position. Their qualifications being equal, I'd hire Christa, as I know there are certain disabilities, such as Autism that can make things such as eye contact difficult. It doesn't mean she won't be a hard worker, or won't take the position seriously. Or maybe Steven. Todd, I'd hire as a third choice. Also, this video is a bit of a dramatization. You know, any experienced people here will agree that you can ace an interview by not giving a fuck about it. The more nervous you are the weirder you come off. When you are relaxed, you act natural and can best answer the questions. In fact, many would have noticed that it's easier to pass or give an interview when they already have a job. This is because in the back of your mind you know you're not losing anything. Lastly, when I go for an interview I look around at the place, the people and the way they are interviewing. If it is some pretentious person with cliched questions trying to be the know-it-all, I usually respond in one liners or one worders.
This is too often unsaid. People too often stress too much about an interview when they're searching for a new job because in the back of their mind they feel like their survival is depending on it.. so then they start acting shaky and nervous and leaves a weird impression, but when you already have a job you feel like you're just breezing through it as if you're using it for practice. It's a complete different shift in perspective which leads to completely different outcomes in an very unfair way, but sadly that's the reality
As someone with special needs, I feel bad for that description because certain barriers do tend to lead to adults living with their parents, though with added chores. :( I lived with my mom and dad for most of my 30+ years, and only now do I have my own house for the first time. I struggled with living independantly and am now realizing it's rather neat to just have a home to myself. The neighborhood is also filled with people similar to myself so it's great to know that I'm basically in such a community.
If i were you , i would hire Todd because he was polite and despite the fact he is nervous because nobody is cool when he is giving a job interview , he acts as if he is cool and not only that , but he also makes eye-contact and listens carefully what you're saying.
It is always good to rehearse and practice constantly with other people and to give the "interviewer" a list or sample questions that would be best to ask and know how to answer them fluently and confidently without hesitation. Maybe one can record him/herself and decipher his fault and body language so he can make improvements. Let the mock interviewer ask you some outlandish questions so you know how to prepare, as: Have you been convicted of a crime? (It's illegal to ask, but they can ask anything.) Want the job? Do what you must.
It makes no sense hire someone who is good at "doing interviews". Maybe the first guy was the biggest expert on his field and he was late because he just arrived from a meeting with the president.
that's the thing, its the best prepared person who gets the job not the person who's actually most suited to the job...in fact you could be totally the opposite in terms of being suited for the job but if you are prepared like hell you will likely get it...
Being late wouldn't have been the dealbreaker for me cause stuff happens. The dealbreaker would be him interrupting to ask about the salary and vacation time before he even gets hired! Rude and unprofessional to ask that stuff when you are being interviewed, especially while the interviewer is still talking.
Companies are starting to have a video pre-interview, where the candidate has to answer 3-4 questions about themselves and their experience. The hiring manager then looks through these videos to filter out the ones that they don't want and invite the top few to actually come in. I kinda like this because it saves everyone some time, even the candidate. Interviewing is more art and trained skill than a science.

I had an interview once with a manager from a famous hotel and the manager kept on talking on his walkie talkie and interrupted me every time. He even got up and left the room for five minutes and while he was gone I was left alone at his office. I didn't get the job but glad i didn't
I did many many interviews, I don't believe in this 30 sec nonsense, I listened to them and in many situations I get to understand why they act the way they do in the first 30 sec, the well-seasoned old experts are so laid back and acts much like Anthony, I also encountered brilliant candidates who were very shy and nervous and act like the shy dude, this type of shy candidates usually found with professions that need minimal human interaction like computer programmers and software developers. The only in the video that I don't think will pass in real interview is the lady who walked in with a cup of coffee. I would still give a chance to the others.

I was once interviewd , to be Viceroy of India. I arrived at the Colonial Office ,riding a 7 ton elephant ,with a retinue of over 300 people.I was also backed up by the British Army , with 400 horse and 20 cannon. Needless to say, the interviever was very impressed and i got the job..
2:32 Kaitlynn (the one in the white pants and blue and white sweater) was my favorite. She seemed like somebody who would be fun to work with. I liked that she was easy going and relaxed. Assuming that all of these people had similar qualifications, Kaitlynn is able to be relaxed in a nerve racking situation like an interview. She would probably be good under pressure on the job. The way she put her pocket book on the table and drank her coffee showed that she keeps it real. Admittedly it was not the most professional but it wasn't offensive and I instantly felt comfortable with her. I'm sure she would never get hired because she was't faking it like interviews require though.
I've interviewed hundreds of people and this is pure bullshit. This "dressing professionally" especially. What I recommend is going to the office beforehand and seeing how the other employees dress and behave. Just a couple of minutes of sneak peek will be enough to tell you what sort of a "dress code" and style they have. Mimic that, pay attention, don't answer questions with questions and you'll go far.
no wonder i am jobless, i always ask about how much money you will pay me and how many paid, unpaid vacation days and how many sick days i can get, and how many public holidays they have. the more you know

If you're hiring someone to be a software developer, looking good and speaking well is not necessarily the qualities a software company is looking for. They're more likely to do a skills test like write an algorithm and how well and clean the code is. It depends on the job. The example shown here is more like a sales related role and not necessarily a hard skills like math crunching, analytical, and engineering. I've met a lot of smart folks but they have autism so it may look like they have bad habits but I'm picking brains over looks.
I've interviewed hundreds and hundreds of people and I can decide if they are suitable within 15 seconds of them entering the room. If they pass that, then within the next 30 seconds I'll make a second pass/fail determination. Some may think this is harsh, and I notice other comments say that acting is the key, but interviewers can tell real from fake. We're looking for your natural state. We know people can be nervous but we know how to recognize that and put it aside. You should be yourself, but you also have to show you know the rules of the game. This is the key. It demonstrates that you have taken the time to study the rules. Its not acting, it's telling the interviewer that you understand what is expected in that first 30 seconds. Study some more to understand how you should behave in the rest of the interview. One thing they didn't show on here was the seating rule. When asked to take a seat NEVER sit down until the interviewer has done so first. If a male is interviewing a female he may ask you to sit before he does. Then sit. Fail this rule and you're toast. Harsh? Yes, but the interviewer has another 50 candidates to meet and if you can't be bothered to find out what they are looking for within that first 30 seconds why should they do you any favors? On a final note, I started being prepped for interviews when I was sixteen; attending mock interviews at large firms (with the top dogs) and afterwards they would provide feedback. Since that time, I have been offered a job every time I interviewed. If you want to help your kids, start getting them to mock interviews early. You'd be surprised how open the big shots are to helping. Believe me, they interview so many people, who don't learn the rules, they are eager to have the opportunity to inform people on what they should do.
You can't determine if a applicant is suited for a job in 15-30 seconds. That is ridiculous. You should determine it by the outcome of the whole interview. Such as were they well dressed and groomed? Were they polite and maintained good eye contact throughout the interview? Did they have strong and honest answers to the questions you ask. Do they have relevant experience for the position? Did they bring there resume and cover letter? , Which shows they are responsible. I fill job interviews today are to biased. There is no way I wouldnt hire an applicant just because they sat down before me. That is so stupid. I agree that practicing for an interview is a must. That will increase the lively hood the job.
Discussing salary and vacation days from the start is actually the reasonable thing to do if you aren't desperately looking for ANY job. It's actually weird that the issue hasn't been discussed in some form before the interview.
No you should do that either before going to the interview or after they told you they want you. Once you are going to the interview, your intention should be to get the job, don’t be yourself and let them decide if you would be happy in their company, you know better be the person they want to hire.
My biggest fear with the handshaking is that I extend my hand and they just completely ignore it lol so I just don’t bother with hand shaking because that would just make me feel even more awkward then I already do at an interview. But I say hi and smile so that’s got to count for something 🙃

That video made me really laugh. You made your point very well. But I am assuming that even if Todd was the best out of all we have seen, you would only hire him if he were technically capable to do the job, Example, the job could be a marketing manager and he, despite his great professionalism, is an engineer who has no clue about marketing. Salma Massoud It was based solely on the first impression. A full interview would reveal his capabilities. First impressions set the tone for the interview. If the interviewer is no longer interested or put off because of a poor impression they may not be willing to consider you for the job any longer. No matter how credentialed you are.
You have to assume that all those who had come for the interview had the prerequisite skill set required to soothe job. resumes are shortlisted once a candidates qualifications and past experiences point to the fact that they can do the job. If a resume does not match a profile, then the candidate is not called for the interview.
I thought Kaitlynn lives at home in a pathological attachment to her mother and she doesn't need the job too much, as further attested to by the ultra casual coffee drinking demeanor she barely cares now and after she is trained, can afford to underperform and get fired, she has somewhere to go anyway.
She should have finished her call while she was outside the building in her car. Continuing it when you're standing right in the entrance to the office is very unprofessional. However that wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me if I was the interviewer. I'd be more upset about her posture when she sat down cause she looked like she was at home watching TV!

Programmers don't talk much, they do much work. So, it will be wise to ask them "Show what you got in 30min on IDE." and then ask a couple of personal questions and finish the interview.Everyone knows basic, but the one who can solve the existing problem in 30mins is the one fit for your job.

One would think these things are pretty much a given? I've had at least three instances of unfair descrimination against me because the interviewers thought I was "too good" and "too efficient" for what they had in mind. They thought my razor sharp focus and drive to succeed would intimidate their other "normal" colleagues and that I would outgrow the position so fast that I'd want to leave in 3-6 months and pursue something more senior and more challenging.
Yes they told me in so many words that I'm too ambitious and that they believe that I would outgrow the position very soon and that they would prefer the person to be more on a slightly junior level - a "stayer" as they called it.
sometimes its good to say, lets do more interviews till we find someone fit, its important because i don't think these applicants are ready in any way for this job. Like Nokia often times does several rounds of interviews with not hiring a single person, i think that is a important job skill to have!

You know, any experienced people here will agree that you can ace an interview by not giving a fuck about it.
The more nervous you are the weirder you come off. When you are relaxed, you act natural and can best answer the questions.
In fact, many would have noticed that it's easier to pass or give an interview when they already have a job. This is because in the back of your mind you know you're not losing anything.
Lastly, when I go for an interview I look around at the place, the people and the way they are interviewing. If it is some pretentious person with cliched questions trying to be the know-it-all, I usually respond in one liners or one worders.

This is too often unsaid. People too often stress too much about an interview when they're searching for a new job because in the back of their mind they feel like their survival is depending on it.. so then they start acting shaky and nervous and leaves a weird impression, but when you already have a job you feel like you're just breezing through it as if you're using it for practice. It's a complete different shift in perspective which leads to completely different outcomes in an very unfair way, but sadly that's the reality

As someone with special needs, I feel bad for that description because certain barriers do tend to lead to adults living with their parents, though with added chores. :(
I lived with my mom and dad for most of my 30+ years, and only now do I have my own house for the first time. I struggled with living independantly and am now realizing it's rather neat to just have a home to myself. The neighborhood is also filled with people similar to myself so it's great to know that I'm basically in such a community.

They all forgot one thing: a simple folder with a copy of their own resume, a pen, and a blank piece of paper within the folder for possible notes.
If i were you , i would hire Todd because he was polite and despite the fact he is nervous because nobody is cool when he is giving a job interview , he acts as if he is cool and not only that , but he also makes eye-contact and listens carefully what you're saying.

It is always good to rehearse and practice constantly with other people and to give the "interviewer" a list or sample questions that would be best to ask and know how to answer them fluently and confidently without hesitation.
Maybe one can record him/herself and decipher his fault and body language so he can make improvements. Let the mock interviewer ask you some outlandish questions so you know how to prepare, as: Have you been convicted of a crime? (It's illegal to ask, but they can ask anything.) Want the job? Do what you must.

It makes no sense hire someone who is good at "doing interviews". Maybe the first guy was the biggest expert on his field and he was late because he just arrived from a meeting with the president.

Being late wouldn't have been the dealbreaker for me cause stuff happens. The dealbreaker would be him interrupting to ask about the salary and vacation time before he even gets hired! Rude and unprofessional to ask that stuff when you are being interviewed, especially while the interviewer is still talking.

Companies are starting to have a video pre-interview, where the candidate has to answer 3-4 questions about themselves and their experience. The hiring manager then looks through these videos to filter out the ones that they don't want and invite the top few to actually come in. I kinda like this because it saves everyone some time, even the candidate. Interviewing is more art and trained skill than a science.

I had an interview once with a manager from a famous hotel and the manager kept on talking on his walkie talkie and interrupted me every time. He even got up and left the room for five minutes and while he was gone I was left alone at his office. I didn't get the job but glad i didn't
I did many many interviews, I don't believe in this 30 sec nonsense, I listened to them and in many situations I get to understand why they act the way they do in the first 30 sec, the well-seasoned old experts are so laid back and acts much like Anthony, I also encountered brilliant candidates who were very shy and nervous and act like the shy dude, this type of shy candidates usually found with professions that need minimal human interaction like computer programmers and software developers. The only in the video that I don't think will pass in real interview is the lady who walked in with a cup of coffee. I would still give a chance to the others.

I was once interviewd , to be Viceroy of India. I arrived at the Colonial Office ,riding a 7 ton elephant ,with a retinue of over 300 people.I was also backed up by the British Army , with 400 horse and 20 cannon. Needless to say, the interviever was very impressed and i got the job..
2:32 Kaitlynn (the one in the white pants and blue and white sweater) was my favorite. She seemed like somebody who would be fun to work with. I liked that she was easy going and relaxed. Assuming that all of these people had similar qualifications, Kaitlynn is able to be relaxed in a nerve racking situation like an interview. She would probably be good under pressure on the job. The way she put her pocket book on the table and drank her coffee showed that she keeps it real. Admittedly it was not the most professional but it wasn't offensive and I instantly felt comfortable with her. I'm sure she would never get hired because she was't faking it like interviews require though.
Honestly, the best way to impress your interviewer is to dress for the job, be serious, and holy fking cow, remember their name(s)!
I've interviewed hundreds of people and this is pure bullshit. This "dressing professionally" especially. What I recommend is going to the office beforehand and seeing how the other employees dress and behave. Just a couple of minutes of sneak peek will be enough to tell you what sort of a "dress code" and style they have. Mimic that, pay attention, don't answer questions with questions and you'll go far.
It is good enough to see the lobby. One office in a building very rarely has a different dress code or style to others.

If you're hiring someone to be a software developer, looking good and speaking well is not necessarily the qualities a software company is looking for. They're more likely to do a skills test like write an algorithm and how well and clean the code is. It depends on the job. The example shown here is more like a sales related role and not necessarily a hard skills like math crunching, analytical, and engineering. I've met a lot of smart folks but they have autism so it may look like they have bad habits but I'm picking brains over looks.

I've interviewed hundreds and hundreds of people and I can decide if they are suitable within 15 seconds of them entering the room. If they pass that, then within the next 30 seconds I'll make a second pass/fail determination. Some may think this is harsh, and I notice other comments say that acting is the key, but interviewers can tell real from fake. We're looking for your natural state. We know people can be nervous but we know how to recognize that and put it aside. You should be yourself, but you also have to show you know the rules of the game. This is the key. It demonstrates that you have taken the time to study the rules. Its not acting, it's telling the interviewer that you understand what is expected in that first 30 seconds. Study some more to understand how you should behave in the rest of the interview. One thing they didn't show on here was the seating rule. When asked to take a seat NEVER sit down until the interviewer has done so first. If a male is interviewing a female he may ask you to sit before he does. Then sit. Fail this rule and you're toast. Harsh? Yes, but the interviewer has another 50 candidates to meet and if you can't be bothered to find out what they are looking for within that first 30 seconds why should they do you any favors? On a final note, I started being prepped for interviews when I was sixteen; attending mock interviews at large firms (with the top dogs) and afterwards they would provide feedback. Since that time, I have been offered a job every time I interviewed. If you want to help your kids, start getting them to mock interviews early. You'd be surprised how open the big shots are to helping. Believe me, they interview so many people, who don't learn the rules, they are eager to have the opportunity to inform people on what they should do.
You can't determine if a applicant is suited for a job in 15-30 seconds. That is ridiculous.
You should determine it by the outcome of the whole interview. Such as were they well dressed and groomed? Were they polite and maintained good eye contact throughout the interview? Did they have strong and honest answers to the questions you ask. Do they have relevant experience for the position? Did they bring there resume and cover letter? , Which shows they are responsible.
I fill job interviews today are to biased. There is no way I wouldnt hire an applicant just because they sat down before me. That is so stupid. I agree that practicing for an interview is a must. That will increase the lively hood the job.

Discussing salary and vacation days from the start is actually the reasonable thing to do if you aren't desperately looking for ANY job. It's actually weird that the issue hasn't been discussed in some form before the interview.

My biggest fear with the handshaking is that I extend my hand and they just completely ignore it lol so I just don’t bother with hand shaking because that would just make me feel even more awkward then I already do at an interview. But I say hi and smile so that’s got to count for something 🙃

But I am assuming that even if Todd was the best out of all we have seen, you would only hire him if he were technically capable to do the job, Example, the job could be a marketing manager and he, despite his great professionalism, is an engineer who has no clue about marketing. The point is, looking professional can break it but it is not the only thing that will make it! Thanks for the examples. Really enjoyed watching the full video.
Salma Massoud It was based solely on the first impression. A full interview would reveal his capabilities. First impressions set the tone for the interview. If the interviewer is no longer interested or put off because of a poor impression they may not be willing to consider you for the job any longer. No matter how credentialed you are.
You have to assume that all those who had come for the interview had the prerequisite skill set required to soothe job. resumes are shortlisted once a candidates qualifications and past experiences point to the fact that they can do the job. If a resume does not match a profile, then the candidate is not called for the interview.

However that wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me if I was the interviewer. I'd be more upset about her posture when she sat down cause she looked like she was at home watching TV!

one day i was on a interveiw. i didn't think that i was the person for the job but i got hire.
Programmers don't talk much, they do much work. So, it will be wise to ask them "Show what you got in 30min on IDE." and then ask a couple of personal questions and finish the interview.Everyone knows basic, but the one who can solve the existing problem in 30mins is the one fit for your job.
To Furlow Torent: In these days and ages, it doesn't surprise me how apprehensive one is, to even consider conducting an interview with all of these PC and Affirmative Actions terminology and interviewees rights being balled around in the media, etc. -- *even if he/she is unqualified for the job.* They realize that at the slip of their tongue -- litigiousness illuminates large, lest lither language is lucubrated long before as not to land in a financial laceration.

I don't know if this was a good form of education since it's not even considering people with special needs who may be unable to keep eye contact or may have some form of body stimulation when being unable to move around otherwise.
And now the handshake is pretty irrelevant imo because of the pandemic. This vid's 12 years old though, so I'll cut it slack on that end. But I also am not comfortable with people touching me so I don't like handshakes. I'd rather wave, say "hi", or something instead.
I never heard of fake it until you make it in the 1990's or early new MILLIENUM, I would be nice if I got good tips in high school and how to be your self and be honest with yourself I would had not had wasted some time in Ella t Grasso in CT and to appreciate some jobs and landed better jobs, I wish I could go back in time in the year 2000, life was so much better and the economy too.

5:32 I thought her talking on the phone would make her be perceived as distracted and therefore unprofessional as you should not be on the phone with anyone directly before something important like an interview as you should be giving it all of your attention and it could make it seem like if she was hired she would probably constantly be on the phone as she can't even avoid being on it before a big interview, but I didn't expect immaturity. Many adults may often be on the phone with their parents not because they are reliant on their parents or their parents want to check up on them often, but the other way around.

One would think these things are pretty much a given? I've had at least three instances of unfair descrimination against me because the interviewers thought I was "too good" and "too efficient" for what they had in mind. They thought my razor sharp focus and drive to succeed would intimidate their other "normal" colleagues and that I would outgrow the position so fast that I'd want to leave in 3-6 months and pursue something more senior and more challenging.

Yes they told me in so many words that I'm too ambitious and that they believe that I would outgrow the position very soon and that they would prefer the person to be more on a slightly junior level - a "stayer" as they called it.

Like Nokia often times does several rounds of interviews with not hiring a single person, i think that is a important job skill to have!
