What continues to amaze me about this particular number is how well Darwin, Tim, and Scot sound like a whole, well rehearsed studio accompanying the vocals. The original (which is admittedly very well done ) has piano, steel guitar, violin, bass, rhythm guitar and drums plus who knows what else with how many overdubs. Everyone's playing here is brilliant, but the arrangement is sublime. It captures all the necessary nuances and textures of the original production without losing the rhythm and fullness of a complete band, using just three instruments, live. Supergroup indeed.
Darwin had met Scott over the years but had never played with him. He came and worked with Tim and the girls 4 times and then they asked Scott if he would join them. One rehearsal with everyone present.

Also no agents, no managers, no record label, no producers. 100% connection with their audience and total control over what they want to do as a result. One more "no": no autotune. It's all them, doing it for the love of the art and their audience. It doesn't get any truer than that.
I don’t have a favorite F&F song…an impossible decision. But, I do have a favorite F&F moment….Sammie’s smile! I never tire of watching Sammie’s reaction!
I love the way the Sammie smiles and looks over at her dad when audience cheers her high note. A beautiful moment. Thank you Tim for raising a wonderful, talented and gracious daughter. 3:39
Jack, Sammie only briefly glances at her dad to see how he is reacting, but mostly she's looking over to Maggie because of how the men in the audience are reacting to what she just sung. To watch all of this, go to timestamp 3:38
@@scottbreseke716 I think you are right. Remember this wasthe band's first public performance and Maggie is a year older than Sammie. The chemistry between Maggie and Sammie is part of the draw of F&F. These people love each other and it shows.
As a father of two amazing daughters, hearing the applause for Sam I remember times when my girls (musicians and sports-girls) did something outstanding and got applause and they smiled (like Sam does) . One reason F&F appeals to me. I’ll bet a lot of ol Fossils feel the same. “You go, sweetheart!!” ❤
March of 2020. I'm stuck in our house keeping my "Social Distance". Surfing RUclips I accidentally discover this amazing band. Have spent the last 5 days viewing every Foxes & Fossils video I can find - multiple times. Fell hopelessly in love with Sammie and Maggie. Will always be one of my greatest regrets in life that I am 10 years late to the party. Tim Purcell has my most sincere gratitude for putting this band together, letting them all work their combined magic, and then posting the videos so that they could be enjoyed by thousands of fans a decade later.
Me too, Chuck. i just discovered them a few years ago, and they are a staple on my play list. I'd go see them in a heart beat if this damn "social distance" ever ends. Peace to you, my brother.
The good news is that last fall (aka 2019), the girls have finished college and everyone in the band has discovered just how popular they have become via RUclips and they've started making new music. Subscribe to Tim Purcell's channel and see what they've made recently. I expect great things from this group.
Watching Tim jump off his chair when his daughter nails the high note. I have two daughters. May they know the love and pride I have. Tim displayed it perfectly.
It’s also because it’s a bit of an “in joke”, as Sammie tries to work her trademark “Yeah!” into the song. You can tell some of their supporting audience were expecting it and weren’t disappointed! Go Sammie!
Tim is one of the finest musicians I've ever heard. He can sing with the best of them and his rhythm guitar is so fine. He brings out the best in all of them.
It is a tragedy the world did not get to hear this group. As a long time music lover with MANY artists loved over the years, this crew blows me away. I love everything they do.

As a song writer...as a musician who has preformed across America...you will NOT find a better cover band than Foxes and Fossils. I often prefer their covers to the originals! Just awesome...no other words...just awesome!
This is such a perfect song for Foxes and Fossils! I love me some Sammie and Maggie! Hard to believe this was 12 years ago. Such a perfect group with an awesome name!
I may have said this before, but my favorite part is after the 3.44 min mark when Sammie gets that huge smile on her face after shhe realizes that the audience likes her. I am as proud of her as if she were my own daughter.
Yeah, I’ve got two daughters and it reminds me when they caught the softball or aced a serve...the crowd clapped and then the big smile. Precious moments indeed.
Indeed. It's that first rush of excitement and joy that musicians feel from performing and getting that glorious approval from the audience that fuels our entire careers. It is such a joyful experience that it almost brings tears. So fitting that a song about the loss of innocence could have been a "first" for her as well.
I know I've commented on this song before, but I have to comment on Darwin's awesome skills here. Makes his guitar almost sound like a pedal steel. Being a guitar picker myself, this is most difficult. Darwin, you are the player that I wish I could be.
I'm listening to this band for more than an hour now.. and I just don't know what to say.. tears are rolling down my cheaks and goose bumps on my arms.. so beautiful, especially the voices and how they harmonize. And most of all: these people are so normal, without arrogance.. And I think most of the audience doesn't understand at all how good this band is... But the musicians don't care! Amazing!!
Kim Mitchell once said "Be grateful for whatever success you have because the guy pumping your gas is probably 10Xs the guitar player you'll ever be" Many great musicians simply play for the love of the music. Foxes and Fossils appear to be one of those bands. They look like they're genuinely enjoying themselves.
Music is a gift from God to mankind. And a gift from some people to other people. Once a lot of money gets involved, it more often than not ruins it. This video shows the great camaraderie between the members of the band and they are also taking great pleasure in entertaining their audience.
As great as this sounds, the best part for me is the spontaneous cheers after Sammy sings 'Yeah, yeah'. Her surprised response is precious. And a sign of things to come! Thanks for all the great music!
