Tips for Sketching and Painting Rocks

  • If drawing and painting rocks make you a bit nervous, then consider following along with this study to see how I do it. This starts with a very watery beginning using the wet-on-wet technique. When the paint is added to wet paper you have less control. But with gouache, you can come back and "tame" it a bit with a slightly damp brush. I find manipulating the edges rather hypnotic and I enjoy the freedom gouache gives.
