A man is on trial for allegedly murdering his wife and kids, and killing the family dog. Anthony Todt, 44, stands trial in Osceola County, Florida. Opening statements are scheduled to begin Monday, April 11, at 9 am ET.
Todt, a physical therapist who worked in Connecticut and lived in the Sunshine State, allegedly killed wife Megan Todt, 42, as well as their three children Alec Todt, 13, Tyler Todt, 11, and Zoe Todt, 4. He even slew the family dog Breezy.
Federal authorities had been seeking him at the time, saying he charged Medicaid for unworked hours. Naturally, a fraud case pales in comparison to the grisly state prosecution for four counts of first-degree murder, and one count of cruelty to animals. With that in mind, federal prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss without prejudice because they did not want to stand in the way of Florida officials. They can refile later.
The family also faced eviction from their home in a case filed Dec. 22, 2019, just weeks before deputies found defendant Todt at the residence with the bodies.

    Anthony Todt.
Investigators say Anthony Todt confessed to the killings in interviews shortly after his arrest. Though a judge suppressed an early portion of that because a detective failed to give a proper Miranda warning, the admission of guilt is ultimately making it to trial because Todt allegedly kept on talking to authorities, repeating the confession in a follow-up interview.
Associate Medical Examiner Jennifer Nara found the deaths to be homicide, though she could not determine “the exact mechanism of death,” and had to rely on the alleged confession and other circumstances in her decision.
Defendant Todt walked back that confession. He blamed his wife for the killings in a letter to his father, according to the document obtained by The Orlando Sentinel from the prosecutor’s office.

Careful! Wasting jury’s time-and telling them that they’ve done nothing all this time-is insulting. Juries take this seriously. And they have “seen” a lot and done a lot-looking at autopsy photos of a 4-year old child is hard. Careful.
    2. After such a strong state closing, gotta do better.

The PD didn't want him to testify - he did anyway. They obviously wouldn't have wanted him to confess to the police detectives - he did, anyway. TWICE!
Then he started on how his mother was in the room as well as his deceased father in law trying to show he was insane enough to see dead people and people who lived far away.
Tony the Todt simply made his own attorney's job so difficult, I give Ms. Smith and Mr. Wesley a LOT of credit for even giving the effort they gave. They are required to but given they are NOT high priced attorney's like Robert Kardashian, they did a great job and deserve a high five.

Now, her rapid, get it over with worst speach I've ever heard was made worse by the constant "nows". Now, were you counting? Now, a 50 minute speach designed to defend a man's life had 486 sentences which started with "now". Now, has this woman Ever watched professional attorneys? Now, how did she pass the bar? Now, did she go to law school? Now doesn't law school have classes on how to speak in court? Now, don't you think her client is shocked that his life is being defended by this shocking lack of professionalism and absolutely bizarre way of talking? Now, much less in everyday, but in formal court. Now, how could she be so unaware? Now, how could she Not hear herself? Now, does she do this in rear life? Now, for how long? Now, Why hasn't anyone, someone stopped her from embaressing herself? Now, it's bad enough how fast she speaks but the "nows" completely distract from the message. Now, if she was aware, and she should have been, WHY didn't she stop?
Now, I'm still shocked after watching this a few times out of disbelief. Now, do you think anyone pointed this out? Now, do you think she was surprised or was embaressed? Now, do you think she still has a job? Now, is she still allowed to be an attorney? Now, how many people watched this and didnt hire her when she might have had their business? Now, how much $$$ has she lost due to this one televised trial? Now, is she continuing or did she learn? Now, has she watched this video? Now, if you think I'm exaggerating, re watch. Now, how would you feel to hear this mess-word salad? Now, I wouldn't let this woman-not attorney because to give her that title would be an insult to professional attorneys-defend me for a minor traffic ticket. Now, I will think of her when I see the skill of any court attorney, prosecutor or defense, speak as professional attorneys do. Now,as a normal person speaks. Now, I will appreciate them no matter how awful they are. Now, as I write this, I can't stay focused on my message because of using "now"in front of every sentence. Now, how did she? Now how could she nor see, hear the difference between herself and Anyone? Now, I've Never, ever heard a person speak like this. Now, the question is.... why? Now, where did she learn to speak this way? Now, has she always done this disrespectful, annoying way of speaking? Now, again, how could she not hear herself? Now, is the word written in her notes? Now, Why didn't the judge or fellow attorney pull her aside? Now, can you imagine how embarrassed they all were? Now, are you sick of hearing "now"? Now, again, I can't stay focused because I'm having to deliberately start 9.9 % of my sentences with "now". Now, you try it. Now, do you think I'm exeragerating? Now watch again and count.

I reckon he would have had more chance of acquittal if his defence had addressed the jury at half the speed she spoke and in clear English. No commitment at all. The defence sounded bored and rushed like they had better things to do.

His lawyer who did the closing spoke so fast that I couldn’t understand her.

I will never understand why instead of fleeing the country, he lived with the dead bodies. That’s why I feel as though he must have been trying to kill himself albeit very cowardly. He was afraid to hurt himself fr. He thought I’ll just murder my whole family and drink some Benadryl for my eternal dirt nap.

This defense attorney did her job. She had nothing to work with, AT testifying made her job more difficult and i guarantee they told him not to get up there. This reminds me of the Chandler Haldron case. His defense had absolutely, nothing to work with. If youre looking for another trial, i highly suggest that one

Tip my cap to his defense council. Its often a thankless job, and they had absolutely nothing within reason, to build a foundation with for his defense. They defend the indefensible and i appreciate them. In the end, he was given the sentence he deserved, but goes without saying, his council did great, all aspects considered.

She didn’t even prepare enough to learn how to pronounce words. These weren’t mistakes she had no idea how to say these words. She clearly never tried to speak them out before or she would have realized she didn’t know how to say them and figured it out. Or she couldn’t be bothered? All the commenters defending her, would you like to defend that?

Why was the Defense speaking so unnecessarily fast?? It certainly didn't help "prove" their defense right at the end... Just saying.
