Grant Amato Trial Prosecution Opening Statement

- Grant Amato, 29, stands trial in Seminole County, Florida. He killed his mother Margaret Amato, 61, father Chad Amato, 59, and his brother Cody Amato, 31, after they confronted him for stealing about $200,000 to fund an obsession over a Bulgarian call girl. Charges are three counts of first-degree premeditated murder. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.
The three victims were found dead at home last January 25, according to records obtained by Law&Crime. They’d been having problems with the defendant, investigators said. He previously stole about $50,000 from his brother Cody, and $150,000 from their father. Things became so bad that their dad laid down an ultimatum, authorities said: take a 60-day Internet and sex addiction rehab program, or leave home. He only took just shy of two weeks, but was allowed to stay at the residence anyway. He had to follow certain rules-he had to stop communicating with the call girl, authorities said.
Thing allegedly came to a head when the father kicked Grant Amato out of the residence after learning he was stilling keeping in touch with the call girl.
The defendant did not admit to the crime when speaking to authorities.
Towards the end of the interview, while viewing crime scene photos of his dead family members, GRANT AMATO was asked if he had any remorse for the killings of his mother, father and brother. GRANT AMATO’s response was his family had been blaming him for months for ruining their lives, stealing and not following the rules of the home, so he might as well be blamed for this too.
Note: This article has been updated to reflect that the trial began.

Cool alien voice to start us off haha! Unless that was just on MY end lol
I think the uploader or the original programmer did that intentionally to mask him telling the exact address of the house.
I thought ooh this going to be interesting!
I thought my phone was messin up
God Almighty, sounded like one of his video aliens were there helping him out.
The government employed the aliens 👽 to hide information they didn’t want released....(just joking by the way...!)
This has to be one of the saddest stories ever 😭....The Amatos did everything for this guy, even after he'd stolen from them on many occasions, stolen from other family members, refused to work, at almost 30 yrs old wanted to lay around and play video games & be online for hours on end with a girl who was not in any relationship with him, she was simply doing her job and he repays his mom, dad and brother by gunning each of them down???!!! People are saying that the prosecutor is not lively etc. This is not a TV series - his job is to present facts leading to a conclusion or many conclusions. That is what he is doing.
STFU look at Chandler Halderson's opening statement !
He's definitely not the most eloquent, but he obviously got the job done.
@@tr909love I agree. We're all spoiled after the Halderson prosecution opening statement. That's a hard act to follow!! I'd love to hear what that Prosecutor, William Brown, would do for an opening statement here... Although as someone else commented, the prosecutor in this case did get the job done and got a conviction. That's what really matters at the end of the day.
@@emmagatewood3898that's because it was a slam dunk, I could get a guilty verdict with this evidence.
I would be more likely to trust a prosecutor who does not sound eloquent or loud.
I couldn't believe it was true that he actually killed his mother father AND older brother that was also his best friend and biggest supporter through life OVER a woman he had to PAY by the minute to talk to and see on a webcam. What a waste.... Rest in Peace Amato family.
Keep in mind, this is the same guy who stole $2,000 worth of propofol fun h6 in order to drug his patients so he wouldn't have to deal with them. He also happily stole from his best friend and aunt, childishly running away when his parents tried to hold him, a grown man, accountable for his actions.

Obsession isn't love. It's often confused with love, but it's a different kind of mental aberration. Love is about caring for and wanting the best for the person who is the object of affection. Obsession is all about possessiveness and control. He was (is) an intelligent person, but he couldn't work out that he was fixated on a person he had to PAY for interaction. Silvie was an actress. _He is not handsome at all_
Jennifer Richter There’s A LOT of evidence showing he’s guilty. Certainly, not everything reported in newspapers etc is accurate but the prosecutor confirmed most of it during opening. He’d been stealing large amounts of $ from his family, fam had an intervention w/him & in the end they had kick him out. There were no signs of forced entry. A staged murder/suicide scene. They have evidence he was on computers transferring $ from families accts the night of the murder, gun shot reside on his gloves-list goes on & on. There would have to be some pretty big smoking gun that investigators failed to uncover, in order for him to not be guilty. Guess we’ll see.

It seems to me that this monster is sitting there not regretting a thing he has done except possibly getting caught. In the description of this video, the RUclipsr who posted this said, "GRANT AMATO’s response was his family had been blaming him for months for ruining their lives, stealing and not following the rules of the home, so he might as well be blamed for this too". They didn't just BLAME him for ruining their lives, stealing, and not following the rules of the home, it is a FACT that he stole from them and did not follow the rules of the house and if someone stole $200,000 from me it would pretty much ruin my life, at least temporarily. So yeah, Grant, you were blamed for these things, and you actually committed these things. Also, you didn't deny stealing the money and not following the rules of the house because one of the rules of the house was to stay away from the scammer who found in you a sucker she could use and get a LOT of money from. You can’t really kick out your child at 29. I mean especially if he has no job or money. He is to dependent so he was so desperate he tragically killed his mom and dad . But how he waited inside with the bodies of his parents to murder his brother that loved him so much and did everything to support him and to pin him for shooting his parents is monstrous. All for the sake of a cam girl for god sake‘s.

You can kick someone out at 18
You absolutely can and should kick your adult out of the house given all the circumstances confirmed by witness and court evidence.
I heard that he was sentenced to a lifetime of marital bliss with Mrs. Bulgaria Silvie Amato. Living in their own castle 🏰 in Transylvania somewhere deep in the mountains of Carpathia. She has already given him a heir to his throne. Don’t you love it when a plan works out and love conquers all?
Some kids are born evil. He had a good upbringing. He was just evil.
The typist really needs to trim her nails. So loud 😩
Prosecutor is delivering the most boring, slow moving Opening statement I’ve ever heard.
Grant projected his fantasy woman onto a real cam model. Her job is to sell anyone who could pay for as long as they could pay the right to fantasize about her. Grant bought in. He financed his self-deception by stealing from his family. When the money ran out. The fantasy blew up. The real businesswoman emerges and cuts him off. She had no more use for him. Grant can't handle the sadly noble reality he created. Grant set a trap and then sprung on himself. He blames his real family who cared about him. They did everything they could to save him. He kills them and bitterly mourns the loss of the fantasy he created and projected on a now very wealthy and very famous Bulgarian cam model. Too bad. So Sad.
Sometimes I think about how Sylvie feels about all of this. I would be very surprised if she didn't know about the aftermath of their 'relationship' and what Grant Amato did to his family for exposing him to her.
Personally, I don't think Sylvie should feel any guilt for what happened. She didn't knowingly accept stolen money, as far as she was concerned he was just a very wealthy client. I don't think what she does is very upstanding, but certainly doesn't make her in any way responsible for Grant's crimes. He was just a loser who completely misread their interactions and thought he had something real. Didn't understand that normal, real relationships don't require regular payments to keep going. I hope Sylvie doesn't feel responsible for this, no way she could have known.
This was so irredeemably pathetic, especially that letter. ‘Seeing her be able to be so happy without me in her life is something I hope you never have to experience.’ The selfishness in that statement, combined with the delusion, is unreal.

His daughter was 28, then called 911 and shot himself in front of cops when they pulled up. Don Spirit, 51 yrs was his name. There's a few to keep you busy for a little while! Lol, hopefully you haven't heard of all of them, because they are all so fascinating. I've always been kind of obsessed cuz it's so out of my range of thought process to hurt anyone period, let alone kill anyone, especially ur own kids? Grandkids? - wish they would all just blow their own heads off, but they need to have the "last word" so to speak. Imagine watching ur dad go from baby to baby , nothing u can do , while watching him kill all of ur kids then turns gun on u. I'm sure she welcomed it at that point. That's the hardest one for me. Go check them out. Some went to trial, obviously some didnt, cuz criminal is dead, but I'd love to hear ur feedback! My hub thinks I'm nuts and hates talking about this stuff with me. My girlfriends are all like, "do we need to worry about you hun"?! Lol. I just can't get enough of psychopaths! I love studying them. To have no guilt, no remorse, no fear, what a sad, waste of life. Maybe we can brain scan babies at birth to detect it early . But I do also realize, that there are MILLIONS of psychopaths, but only a tiny percent are killers. They just damage ppl in different ways. I think I was born with the opposite, TOO MUCH EMPATHY, SYMPATHY, ETC. That's why they intrigue me I think. Would love to hear ur story. A great true crime debate! Nobody likes talking about it, and sorry, but I'm sikk to death of the Watt's case. Let him rot and let those 4, and families rest in peace for God's sake! Take care LadyNYC! Love from North Carolina 💙, Daria😊😊
All the people complaining about the prosecutor, none of them could do the job.
Agreed
Prosecutor is messing up reading the letter so much it looses the impact of its message.
Judge looks like Sandra Bullock?
BGF in the chest. On a bad day...
She cute :3
I watch at 1.5 playback speed and it is still painfully slow talking by prosecutor
God, I'm from Texas and he sounds slow to me. I would have thought he would have honed, gotten feedback, timed, and practiced, practiced, practiced...,
Shouldn't the judge listening not typing?
She has 3 million followers on Instagram. Can't ignore _them_ just because some stupid court case is in progress.
Shes typing "omg this defendants head is freaking me out rofl. He looks like baby voldemort"
Sitting there looking at enlarged photos of his mother, father and brother lying dead, gunshot wounds to the head. In his interrogation he casually looked at them, too. An innocent person wouldn’t be able to stand seeing their family members like that..
We usually watch trials with awful audio. I mean... AWFUL! But, when we do have one with a cristal clear one, we can even hear that effing typing sound! It’s making me crazy!
THIS IS HOW YOU TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS IN OPENING STATEMENT. You get two moments in time to speak to the jury- you better stretch them out and make 'em both masterful moments- if you have any skills at all - they will be demonstrated here. None of the 20 minute specials we see in the Mcarthur case.
And yet this guy sucks compared to the halderson DA. But I get your point
This lawyer is opening with “I left my laser pointer at home” 😂
Lock him up case closed...stone cold here ,crying like a baby later when reality starts to creep in ...For the most ridiculous obsession
Turn the speed up to 1.5 or higher because this prosecutor's LONG pauses make you want to kill.
Thank you.
Spilling your guts to a chat room full of dudes getting shammed by a woman in Bulgaria? Cringe factor to the max 🥴
@0:36 - Aliens Exist. Blink 182 told me so...
"Hey mom, there's something in the backroom"
"Hope it's not the creature from above"
omg.........so did he kill his family because of slyvie living in bulgaria?
Jamie Park yep
I'd argue that he killed them more because he was a spoiled, entitled monster who was enraged when his family finally stood up for themselves.
Chat-Mort underrated comment. 👏🏼
well he had an emotional relationship to her. I mean ... well...
Yes- he killed them because they were going to make it impossible for him to steal from them again, and were doing everything possible to block his ability contact her, they were making him behave like a grown-up and get a job, pay his bills, and most importantly pay them all back the 200K + he stole from various family members.....he was also very mad that Chad the Dad had contacted Sylvie and exposed him as the pathetic unemployed freeloading thieving creep he really was....not the successful professional gamer with the big house and the BMW....
I always watch the police interview or interrogation first to get the story from the start of arrest, then go to the court room opening.
Seriously, if that is the judge , why is she typing? I watch quite of few of these and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a judge stenographer??
My goodness - the guy giving the opening statement sure is clunky - his stuttering and asking the court for tools seems a bit odd. He knows he is going to do slide presentations - he should have let the court know ahead of time that he needed a projector and a laser pointer. And laser pointers are cheap - that should be a part of his lawyer toolkit. Also his dull, stammering, and stumbling voice while talking and reading makes it seem like he's reading and learning about this case for the first time, like RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT. ***Just an aside, I find it odd that they never show the actual crime scene photos in these public trial videos released to the public. If they are presenting this online then they should the online viewer everything the in-court viewer sees (aside from showing minors). Even if they put somewhat of a filter on the gruesome parts. They should also just put a disclaimer that there are graphic scenes and add a maturity tag to the video. Otherwise viewers don't get the full picture of what's happening and can't fully understand the magnitude of what's going on or understand the arguments from the prosecutor and DA. *** Also, I don't find the typing annoying - I think the judge must be taking her own notes during the proceedings. Maybe she used to be a court stenographer - she sure is typing super fast!
I started listening to this, to help me fall asleep. I was NEVER prepared for the Sylvie part.
I know its childish but I giggled when he said choady.. 20:47
So there are 8 other guys sharing the Sylvie experience simultaneously?
Yup, but he would take her into private shows
prosecotor is like grandpa tells
what the heck is the judge typing! LOL
49:55 woman in white shirt sums up this opening statement.
Marie C - Yup! 💤 😴
That’s the best comment I’ve read!! Well done 👏🤭
