  • Grant Amato, 29, stands trial in Seminole County, Florida. He killed his mother Margaret Amato, 61, father Chad Amato, 59, and his brother Cody Amato, 31, after they confronted him for stealing about $200,000 to fund an obsession over a Bulgarian call girl. Charges are three counts of first-degree premeditated murder. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.
The three victims were found dead at home last January 25, according to records obtained by Law&Crime. They’d been having problems with the defendant, investigators said. He previously stole about $50,000 from his brother Cody, and $150,000 from their father. Things became so bad that their dad laid down an ultimatum, authorities said: take a 60-day Internet and sex addiction rehab program, or leave home. He only took just shy of two weeks, but was allowed to stay at the residence anyway. He had to follow certain rules-he had to stop communicating with the call girl, authorities said.
Thing allegedly came to a head when the father kicked Grant Amato out of the residence after learning he was stilling keeping in touch with the call girl.
The defendant did not admit to the crime when speaking to authorities.
Towards the end of the interview, while viewing crime scene photos of his dead family members, GRANT AMATO was asked if he had any remorse for the killings of his mother, father and brother. GRANT AMATO’s response was his family had been blaming him for months for ruining their lives, stealing and not following the rules of the home, so he might as well be blamed for this too.
Note: This article has been updated to reflect that the trial began.

Obsession is all about possessiveness and control. He was (is) an intelligent person, but he couldn't work out that he was fixated on a person he had to PAY for interaction. Silvie was an actress. He’d been stealing large amounts of $ from his family, fam had an intervention w/him & in the end they had kick him out. There were no signs of forced entry. A staged murder/suicide scene. They have evidence he was on computers transferring $ from families accts the night of the murder, gun shot reside on his gloves-list goes on & on. There would have to be some pretty big smoking gun that investigators failed to uncover, in order for him to not be guilty. Guess we’ll see.

It seems to me that this monster is sitting there not regretting a thing he has done except possibly getting caught. In the description of this video, the RUclipsr who posted this said, "GRANT AMATO’s response was his family had been blaming him for months for ruining their lives, stealing and not following the rules of the home, so he might as well be blamed for this too". They didn't just BLAME him for ruining their lives, stealing, and not following the rules of the home, it is a FACT that he stole from them and did not follow the rules of the house and if someone stole $200,000 from me it would pretty much ruin my life, at least temporarily. So yeah, Grant, you were blamed for these things, and you actually committed these things. Also, you didn't deny stealing the money and not following the rules of the house because one of the rules of the house was to stay away from the scammer who found in you a sucker she could use and get a LOT of money from. I heard that he was sentenced to a lifetime of marital bliss with Mrs. Bulgaria Silvie Amato. Living in their own castle 🏰 in Transylvania somewhere deep in the mountains of Carpathia. She has already given him a heir to his throne. Don’t you love it when a plan works out and love conquers all?

Sometimes I think about how Sylvie feels about all of this. I would be very surprised if she didn't know about the aftermath of their 'relationship' and what Grant Amato did to his family for exposing him to her.
Personally, I don't think Sylvie should feel any guilt for what happened. She didn't knowingly accept stolen money, as far as she was concerned he was just a very wealthy client. I don't think what she does is very upstanding, but certainly doesn't make her in any way responsible for Grant's crimes. He was just a loser who completely misread their interactions and thought he had something real. Didn't understand that normal, real relationships don't require regular payments to keep going. I hope Sylvie doesn't feel responsible for this, no way she could have known.

This was so irredeemably pathetic, especially that letter. ‘Seeing her be able to be so happy without me in her life is something I hope you never have to experience.’ The selfishness in that statement, combined with the delusion, is unreal.

My goodness - the guy giving the opening statement sure is clunky - his stuttering and asking the court for tools seems a bit odd. He knows he is going to do slide presentations - he should have let the court know ahead of time that he needed a projector and a laser pointer. And laser pointers are cheap - that should be a part of his lawyer toolkit. Also his dull, stammering, and stumbling voice while talking and reading makes it seem like he's reading and learning about this case for the first time, like RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT. ***Just an aside, I find it odd that they never show the actual crime scene photos in these public trial videos released to the public. If they are presenting this online then they should the online viewer everything the in-court viewer sees (aside from showing minors). Even if they put somewhat of a filter on the gruesome parts. They should also just put a disclaimer that there are graphic scenes and add a maturity tag to the video. Otherwise viewers don't get the full picture of what's happening and can't fully understand the magnitude of what's going on or understand the arguments from the prosecutor and DA. *** Also, I don't find the typing annoying - I think the judge must be taking her own notes during the proceedings. Maybe she used to be a court stenographer - she sure is typing super fast!

I just started this video. I’m looking at him looking at the photos of his dead family and quite deliberately looks up to see them as they lay in their own blood. It’s as if he’s reliving doing it and enjoying the memory. I think he’s got some severe dissociative issues. He doesn’t care. He’s glad it done.
