I just went through and decluttered my own tbr, both physical and digital. It’s SO satisfying to get those books off your shelves when you know you won’t read them anymore, but tastes change!

Great Circle and The Mercies were both books I absolutely adored haha. I completely understand why you might not enjoy them though ☺️
You’re doing so well with getting your TBR down to zero! 💛

I'm glad you enjoyed those books! It's always interesting how different readers can have such varied experiences with the same book. Im still super interested in The Mercies, but I have held onto it for so long I was glad someone else could get the joy of reading it sooner than I would!

@@mikalareadsI think you have exactly the right attitude. I’m getting better at it but still have a few too many books on my physical TBR 🫠
Also! Wishing you a very happy birthday, Mikala. I hope you have the loveliest day 🥰

I really love how strong your stance is on not needing domestic violence in a book. I never realized how much it's in books, I guess, but you have definitely shown me that it is a lot and it doesn't need to be.

YESSS its like once I started noticing it I couldn't UNSEE it! It seemed like every book I was picking up had DV/DA/SA in SOME form or other! (to be fair I know with me reading mostly horror/thriller/mystery those genres probably are saturated with it more than other genres, but STILL it can get so exhausting when you feel like you're just being bombarded by that content!)

I've been collecting goosebumps and fear Street books for awhile now. They're so nostalgic and still fun to read even as an adult. I'd love to listen to the audiobook. It sounds so immersive! ❤

Thanks for sharing your love for these books! It's always great to connect with fellow fans. I did some research and it looks like the audio I listened to was the versions published on cassette back in the 90s-00s, and theres only SIX of them, which is SUCH a bummer!!!!!!

I still need to read When We Lost Our Heads! The Lonely Hearts Hotel by the same author is one of my favorites of all time.
There are three sets of the OG goosebumps books available in “retro tins.” It’s a good way to collect 15 total of the OG covers if you’re collecting them all, and the tins are really cool. As I’ve fallen a bit out of cozy mysteries (there are a few series I love -Shady Hollow is one of them - but I’m not grabbing randoms anymore) I’ve gotten more into rereading old faves like Sweet Valley High, and it’s been a good lesson in not collecting physical books; the ebooks are $3 and realistically I can’t collect all 180 anyway.
Great progress - love to see it!

Thank you for sharing your reading experiences and recommendations! I am SO interested to check out The Lonely Hearts Hotel, because there were a lot of moments in When We Lost Our Heads where I loved the authors writing style and use of metaphor so I would love to see what else they have to offer!!!!
Thats a GREAT point about the Goosebumps tins! I know I have seen those at Books a Million and its so awesome you also get that cool collectors tins with the original covers!
Thank you so much for watching my friend! I TOTALLY miss your videos, I hope you are having a great rewarding reading year so far!!!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I am wondering if people would be interested in more content around selling books, I am starting to beef up my Pango store more and more and considering if I should make more videos on this! 🤔 I think you HAVE to check out Ultra processed People, like I will say it was a very dense read for me and some concepts were a lot for me to digest (pun not intended LOL), but I am SO excited to reread it and know I will get EVEN more out of a second read!

I purchased Mary not that long ago and looking forward to reading it. Then I will probably purchase the Nestlings one. I have Mirrorland on my TBR looking forward to reading it. Impressed that you have read so much of your TBR. I realized that I'm a book collector... so yeah just embracing the fact that I will probably never bring it down that much.😂

Sounds like you've got some great reads lined up, and you will definitely have to let me know what you think of Mary and Mirrorland! Enjoy diving into those books, and don't worry about the TBR pile - I definitely have been through times where I am all about the collection, and it can be lovely to look at a beautiful bookshelf!!

I’m not certain but the moment I caught glance of the sticker of the woman that came with What Kind of Mother, I immediately thought of early Madonna, Just Like A Prayer. I’m not sure if it is a retouched pic or just in that vibe. But that was my initial reaction.

LOVE how much you're getting out of Pango. I want to try it.
"I should have read it when I bought it." - I feel that. When I buy something, it's usually because I'm in the mood for that one thing, but like you said, the window is sooo easy to miss. So the books just sit there.
I also feel the same way about anthologies and tend to avoid them. I'd HAVE to rate the stories individually.
WHOA! Did not expect a cover like that for Nat Cassidy's Rest Stop. The other covers have had such muted colors that it just surprised me! Oh wait, I just replayed that part, and it said the cover is to be revealed. 🤣 Never mind. I guess it's gonna change.

    • @mikalareads
      @mikalareads  2 месяца назад

Haha, the struggle of books just sitting there waiting to be read is real! Also it's great to hear you're interested in trying Pango! Its SUCH a great source for second hand books! Also I agree, I find I have to rate each story individually too!!!
I am SO excited to see the final cover of Rest Stop because this like promo cover is giving me so nay ideas of where the story might go!
