School librarian here, I fully agree that audio books are real books and do count as reading. They are great for snuggling readers and English language learners for modeling reading fluency. They are also great for people like me who suffer from social anxiety and like to listen to books while driving or out in large group setting. Also thank you for the demonstration on how you use Google docs, I learned something new and am so excited to use the sizing and replacement methods.
Your reading journal is just beautiful! I loved when you set it up and LOVED your update with reviews! I took note of your favorites and added them to my TBR list. :) The book bracket is a struggle for me, too!! Too many favorites -- do I dare pick the guilty pleasure over the literary winner???!! I've added a section of Favorite Quotes to my journal -- each book gets a decorative page of memorable quotes if I loved the book. A quick glance and I remember everything about the book. ~ Thank you for sharing this content! It's my favorite!
I love reading and reading journals! I have the old HP bookish notebook as my reading journal. I mostly use Goodreads though to keep track and then catch up on the journal for fun when I feel crafty. The past few years I have read ~100 books each year. I am currently rereading Romancing Mister Bridgerton to go along with the release of season 3 of the show. Funny Story by Emily Henry is one of my faves of hers. I have read all of her books; she is local to me so I enjoy supporting her. My book club read a couple of the Stilhouse lake books. I need to get back into those. My favorite books of the year so far are This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan, Funny Story by Emily Henry, The Women by Kristin Hannah, The Paris Daughter by Kristen Harmel, and The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer. I tried to love Fourth Wing and A Court of Thorns and Roses like everyone else but they were just okay for me.
I read over 200 books a year. I love libby, she's like my best friend that just keeps sharing everything with me. I started a reading Journal last year about this time. I was able to get two months into it and I just fell out of it. I felt like I had to fill in so much information. The author, genre, characters, plot etcetera etcetera. It quickly turned into a chore and a book that I spent many hours on customizing was just tossed to the side cuz it made me feel bad to look at it This layout has a lot of what I'm looking for. Pretty layouts, easy statistics and easy filling in for books and their ratings . I'm going to be trying to find the video that you have setting this up! I really hope this one helps me out because I want to keep a reading Journal but I'm torn between a lot of detail and too much work. you've given me a lot of Hope and that makes me very excited! Thanks for the video. I'm off to try to find the other one
Yes, when I set this up I really tried to take into account the fact that I may not keep up with it. I tried to make it as easy as possible while still having some stats in there. I’m glad I didn’t do more. Here’s the original video: ruclips.net/video/-zLV4_ESPlU/видео.htmlsi=tV8FuEEiCJzZjpuQ
What is funny that is the first ad I got watching this was for It Ends With Us movie trailer! Cannot wait for that! The House Across the Lake went to places I did not expect. I will tell you that!
I loved watching this video SO MUCH! I had to keep flipping back and forth to Goodreads to add to my TBR!! Yes, I keep a simple tracker in my Happy Planner but I don’t rate them there. I have a page for A to Z which is my focus this year & a list of overflow when I repeat a letter. I have a DNF list. The pages are decorated with some KOAP stickers from Reading Basics. I’m a tough grader but so far my faves this year have been The Guncle by Steven Rowley, Carrie Soto is Back by TJR, and American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. I’m a big DNF'er and also find I DNF more audio than written. If I don’t like the reader, nothing can save the book for me. Sometimes I'll DNF the audio but keep the book on my TBR for eye-reading.
I read about 90% non-fiction historical books. I have a rather unique "journal" and each book gets a full page review with six question prompts, a quote, some decoration and a "word" definition. I need to expand and read some more non-fiction so I made some notes and will follow you on Goodreads.
Your reading journal is so beautifully decorated and organized. I plan to start a movie journal and will watch this video again. You always have the best ideas and so easy to re-create. I love the little book cover pictures.
I really like how you set up your reading journal. I do listen to audio books mostly now, even though I have to re-listen at times…..squirrel 😉. I like to hear what people are reading and it gives me authors to look for. I also look for series, but if there is more than 5 in the series I tend to get bored. Happy Reading
I started keeping a Book Journal in 2023 and I'm really loving it. So happy that you've shared your Journal. I've used a few of the spreads you have and I'm stealing a couple of your ideas for next year's journal. OK? Thanks!
Great project. I keep a very simple reading journal. But I liked several of your extra pages, especially the favorite authors list. ON IT! Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE your reading journal! If I have several highly rated books, I will wait a couple of months before rating them. Some books just stick with me more than others. I figure they deserve to be my favorite book of the year. And not all my favorites are 5 stars. Rating books is hard! I love your idea of making a favorite authors list. This is a good way to make sure I read favorite authors to zero. I also loved that you crossed out one book with a trigger warning. That is an excellent way to stop myself from reading a trigger that will bring me pain, anger, or whatever. I don’t need that in my life. Well done!
Ahh, I wish I could hear the purring. I love kitty purrs, they are soo soothing to my soul. Thank you for this video. I've neglected my reading journal. I need to get back to it!
I have a reading journal. Mine is also a bullet journal. The main function in my journal is to keep track of books I already read. (So I dont buy them again) but I also rate them with a star system. My goal is to track the amount of pages I read. 📚
So cute! I’ve just started reading the Bridgerton series - audio & kindle! For your ‘multiple authors’ prompt, you could use Christina Lauren for it since it is written by two people, Christina & Lauren, with just one pen name. Can’t wait to see your next update on your reading journal, it looks great and is really inspiring to see - makes me want to get back to mine! Oops.. LOL
I have a laptop Chrome and was trying to figure out how to use Google Docs or even getting it for my laptop. I too print book covers on sticker paper. Right now using Canva but want GoogleDocs. It looks more user friendly. Love your journal.❤
I really think you'd love Katherine Center. I'd probably start with The Bodyguard and then Hello Stranger. Haven't gotten to her newest book yet...but I can't wait to. 💕
Oh MaryEllen! After watching your video I decided to give Abby Jimenez a try. I’m listening to Just for the Summer. Loving it! Thanks for the recommendation!!!
I'm glad you made this video. I've been wanting to read more (never been much of a reader but I think it'll be good for me to de-stress) and this gives me ideas of books to read!
A tip about the Libby app, if a book you have on hold becomes available while you're still reading another book, just postpone delivery for 1 or 2 days at a time until you're ready to read it. I have a lot of books on hold, so I have postponed delivery of books like 10 or 15 times before I was ready for them.
This was a very entertaining video. Very impressive reading journal. It looks like it's fun to do. The comments thread is filled with great suggestions too.
I’ve been trying to start a reading journal as I love to read! Really like your simple and not overwhelming setup. Some of the journal setups are so over the top complicated … like 4 pages for each book … no way! I also lead a monthly mystery circle so will add a section for that too. You’ve got me pumped to get going! Thanks so much for this video. 😊
Omg I love all of your videos and got so very excited when I saw this "update" one! I have been wanting to get back to my reading and have thought how I do great with Journaling and journals that I have set up on my own. Then I saw this!! I truly was struggling with how to do a book reading journal. I hit stop, write down what you have set up, rewind to a certain timestamp to rewatch a part if I think I missed something...aaaaand hit stop to write down book titles and authors who you read, that sounds good to me! Then back to timestamp for notes on the book lol! I would love to see more updates on this journal if you could, please? I also loved the idea of doing the next year in the same journal and switching it out for different types. Then looking back at all the years? Yes! Another win! Now I am going to go watch the first video when you were setting it up, so I can hit pause, write notes, back to a previous timestamp, play it again......
Love this reading journal. Mine is more complicated and involved- the heather kell one- but I really love yours. I like to write down a favorite quotation I highlighted when reading in my kindle in my journal too
Good for you!! If we could encourage children and young adults to read their vocabulary will be more varied and they will be able to read faster. Reading the closed captions to videos has helped me read faster and be able to spell more accurately. It’s so easy and effortless for me. If you miss a word there’s no penalty. When I type on here, auto spell tries to guess which word I want and makes me look bad. Always proofread your work before you Send.
YAY! Planning & Reading!!! You should be a book tuber too. Most of the book tuber girlies that I regularly watch are too young and I love them, but as a mature woman, some of my views are a little different from theirs.
I love your reading journal. I just started one for the first time this year. I setup a few spreads but I haven’t filled it out much. I love how you decorated it! Mine is a pretty thick journal so I was thinking about adding tv series I’ve been watching also. I would love to join your book club if you start one.
Loved this video! I think you’ve inspired me to create a reading journal! I love your set up. We also have a similar taste in books!! I’ve already added a few of these to my Libby!! Thanks for the suggestions! 🤣
Thanks for sharing! I like a lot of the same authors; Abby Jimenez is such a favorite. If you’re looking for historical fiction, try Kristin Harmel. The Book of Lost Names is a favorite. And for young adult try Calloway Summers series by Jennifer Erin Valent.
Loooved watching this!! ❤ thanks so much for sharing 🥰 a lot of these I read as well - others I will check out:) like your challenges in your journal 📔 🤩
So I had NO IDEA I could read books on Spotify! Thank you for that information! I also now want to start a reading journal even though I only get through like 2 books a month, lol.
I loved watching this. I’ve gotten several book recommendations from you and have read a few from Frieda McFadden! I’ll have to check out some of these too (the seven year slip, surrogate mother, the quiet tenant, and just for the summer to make a few!)
Christina Lauren is actually 2 women for multiple authors. Also I use the Pages app for my book covers and copy and paste them directly from Goodreads and then size them in the editing feature. Love this video you are pretty generous with the stars, I’m stingy. Lots of 3 stars lol. Some good ones for me: The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, Little Bee, A Woman Is No Man, and The Island of Sea Women.
Hi Mary Ellen, love the book content!!! I’ve read a couple of the same books as you these last few months. Malibu Rising (4.25⭐️), The Seven Year Slip (5⭐️), and The Only One Left (4.25⭐️) I added The Quiet Tenant, The Next Best Thing, and The Surrogate Mother to my TBR. I already have The Teacher, Just for the Summer, and Funny Story, and None of This is True on my Libby holds. I would say Jennifer Weiner was also my gateway into chick lit way back with “In Her Shoes” (I didn’t remember that but once I googled her I did remember. I think I also read “Good in Bed” Whew, what a title. I wonder if it embarrassed me to read that back then hahaha. I’ve watched you for years and years and hardly ever comment…but I love reading and love for you to post book content. I am currently re-reading “Memoirs of a Geisha” I read it back when it was first published so probably 1997 or 98. That is crazy to think about. I don’t re-read books very often but since it was 25 years ago… Great Video. 🐾🐶🐾 Thank You!!!! You made my Friday night!!
When you set up your reading journal I anticipated you might have problems with the best book branching tree but as you say this is a learning experience as your first book journal. I have not read a book in quite some time but you are inspiring me to try out some of these! Really enjoyed this video! Keep us updated throughout the year!
@@PlanningwithBumble Oh I have no idea but now you have me thinking. As you say, you might read better books one month than another so it needs to be a way of all the very best books competing against each other. I’m currently rewatching your video to make a note of the titles for a trip to the library!
A few good novelists: Lucy Score, Claire Kingsley, Marie Force (Gansett Island series), the Alphabet series if you haven't read it (S Grafton, suspense whodunit). Robyn Carr is good for the virgin river series (tv show is great too if you haven't seen it!)
This is the perfect reading journal. I like to hold a book in my hand……however getting older, I need large print. I do read free books w/Amazon on my kindle app though. Have you read any of Janet Evanovich? She is LOL funny and keeps you guessing. One of my all time favorite authors. Thank you so much for sharing 💜
I love this and i think i will try it because my THREE journals aren't enough! Lol. But what will you do with the rest of the book? Use it again for 2025? Thanks so much for showing how to make the little book stickers!!
Yes I think I’ll just keep using it every year, just put new year title pages in there and change the theme each time. I actually love the thought of keeping years of it together in one book in order to have a long term record of what I’ve read!
I have a book rec for you. I think you might like remarkably bright creatures. If you haven’t read it already. It seems like something you might like based on what you have read so far
I looooove your reading journal. Thank you for sharing it with us! Can you tell us what printer you have? I don’t think I get the same quality from mine.
We read about the same kind of books, so I think you should read Brain Damage by Frieda Mcfadden that book I loved it I don't want to say anything more
Thanks for sharing your reading journal, I also love Abby Jimenez as an author. If you haven’t read The Idea of You by Robinne Lee I recommend it. I will warn you it has some sexual content but it’s a great read for women over 40.
I’m not against sexual content, I just prefer not a ton of spice. Right now I’m reading archers voice and there’s a lot but it’s not like it offends me or anything

I totally agree about The only one left! I remember telling my husband it was way too many twists and how it ruined it for me.
It would have been so good but it kept going and going, and the biggest twist (not the Lenora thing) kind of ruined it for me I think!
Great reading journal. Hope you give us another update so we can see how your book bracket is going.
I love your reading journal. I just started one for the first time this year. I setup a few spreads but I haven’t filled it out much. I love how you decorated it! TY for sharing your reading journal!

I read a lot but not complete books. Mostly news and world information. Geography and history. I enjoy a good mystery if it’s not too graphic.
Hi Mary Ellen, love the book content!!! I’ve read a couple of the same books as you these last few months. Malibu Rising (4.25⭐️), The Seven Year Slip (5⭐️), and The Only One Left (4.25⭐️)

I am currently re-reading “Memoirs of a Geisha” I read it back when it was first published so probably 1997 or 98. That is crazy to think about. I don’t re-read books very often but since it was 25 years ago…
Great Video. 🐾🐶🐾 Thank You!!!! You made my Friday night!!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
When you set up your reading journal I anticipated you might have problems with the best book branching tree but as you say this is a learning experience as your first book journal. I have not read a book in quite some time but you are inspiring me to try out some of these! Really enjoyed this video! Keep us updated throughout the year!
If you have ideas for a better bracket, let me know! This is the kind I saw most people using but I’m open to other ideas for next time
@@PlanningwithBumble Oh I have no idea but now you have me thinking. As you say, you might read better books one month than another so it needs to be a way of all the very best books competing against each other. I’m currently rewatching your video to make a note of the titles for a trip to the library!
I gave The Only One Left ⭐️ ⭐️. I don’t remember exactly what I didn’t like, but it was too weird.
@PlanningwithBumble have you heard of the CAWPILE rating system for book review
It seems you and I have a lot of the same tastes in books. I just read, The Orphanage by the Lake by Daniel G. Miller. I think you would love it. 📚
A few good novelists: Lucy Score, Claire Kingsley, Marie Force (Gansett Island series), the Alphabet series if you haven't read it (S Grafton, suspense whodunit). Robyn Carr is good for the virgin river series (tv show is great too if you haven't seen it!)
Thanks!
What if you did a book bracket with your 5 star reads instead of picking one for each month?
I've read all the taylor jenkins reid books you have down and all were excellent!!!!
This is amazing!
I think I might have read one of her books years ago, but I can’t remember
Oh Hello Robin has a sticker set called the DNF Graveyard. You might check that out if you decide to have a DNF section
I’ll check it out!
I loved this and I'm not even a reader !
I agree about maybe not loving an audiobook as much as if you would have read it.
It also really depends on the narrator. I didn’t finish one this week because I couldn’t stand the narrator’s voice/interpretation
I also love Abby Jimenez and Annabel Monaghan so I suggest Carley Fortune, she has 3 books out.
Thanks!!
I have it on hold on Libby!
I looooove your reading journal. Thank you for sharing it with us! Can you tell us what printer you have? I don’t think I get the same quality from mine.
This is the updated version of the one I own (they don’t sell my exact model anymore):
amzn.to/3UQEBe2
Thank you so much!
I followed you on Goodreads, under Lisa with a cat pic😄
I need ear stops to block competing noise.
Maybe this was answered but what printer do you use to print your little book covers?
We read about the same kind of books, so I think you should read Brain Damage by Frieda Mcfadden that book I loved it I don't want to say anything more
It’s on my TBR!
What size are your book covers in ur reading journal ?
I don’t know offhand but I do explain it in the video, in the part where I talk about how I print them I give exact size
You should READ. The UNHONEYMOONERS by Christina Lauren. So cute! And for your BINGO, I think Christina Lauren is 2 women.
I did read that! Good one
I fall asleep listening to audio books.... :( I do love Libby! app...
Make a small book of quotes. Then think who you would like to give it to. A small card with the quote in honor of one of my Friends.
I believe Christina Lauren is 2 women who co-write
Rock Paper Scissors is set in winter for you Bingo.
Yes I knew I was missing one!!!
It’s not overboard but the writing is good,if you decide to read it let me know what you think.
