  • This is a beginners guide to the Mosaic Crochet Technique, which is a very simple but effective crochet technique with lots of possibilities. This is the first lesson, where I show you all the basics you need to know to then go on and make all kinds of glorious Mosaic Crochet masterpieces! In Mosaic Crochet you only need to know how to work 3 stitches: the chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet, and I show you how to do all of those here. As well as the basic technique behind the wonderful world of Mosaic Crochet! Let the fun begin!

Okay 😂 ~learning this sitting on a park bench next to a old lady 89 years of age who has been doing crochet from age of 7~ and she has NEVER seen this before ~ so now out comes her hook and wool ~ she’s now learning right beside me!! I have also discovered that she lives close by me ~ so I can go over with my device so we can keep learning together!!

I was just thinking the same thing, although I'm from the US. There's a bit of irony here, too, since the stitch is named after an Indian tribe here which is out west, and I'm in the east.

I stopped by to say Thank you! I'm autistic, and even if I love to learn something new, the process makes me incredibly nervous.
Well, I was 5 minutes in this video and I was already excited, and ready to go.

I appreciate how she explains why she's doing each techique which helps me understand and follow the instruction. I also like that right up front she tells us not to worry about all those ends and how her techniques will avoid weaving them in at the end. I can see how I would be discouraged from attempting her designs if I thought I had to weave them in. A+ for terrific explanations!

But do tell everyone how easy it is! Share what you have learned just as she has shared with you. Be free with your knowledge, don’t keep it a secret. If you want to be less than, yet only appear better than others, then by all means keep it to yourself, but if you want everyone to increase their knowledge and joy, including yourself, then share, share, share! If you want to learn more, then teach more. I don’t believe in keeping learning and techniques a secret from others. Just as you have been blessed, I hope you share that blessing with others.

I know I am late in discovering this video; however, I am SO glad I did! When I became permanently disabled, I really was missing my career as a hospital Maternity/NICU RN. I decided to learn how to crochet via RUclips videos, and have donated all my items to a hospital nursery and hospice organization. I recently moved across country and I'm getting the itch to be productive again. I was thinking of learning how to knit, but now I am thinking of learning how to do Mosaic Crochet!! Thanks!! I look forward to my first attempt! Thank you for your passion!! 💜 👍

You are so right! This is addicting! I did my first swatch following you, while it wasn't perfect (missed a stitch because I didn't pay attention) it was so fun!
I subsequently did another swatch following you again and was more careful... I think I've got it now! 😊
I also have been crocheting for about 45 years or so but was intimidated by the Apache Tears stitch. After watching your first podcast video, I wanted to see how you taught. You are truly a gifted teacher as well as artist!
I've been to the Reykjavik airport a few times enroute to Norway to visit relatives. The views from the airport are beautiful, but you podcast video really enhanced what I already knew... Iceland is an enchanted country! The Icelandic people are beautiful inside and out from under what I've experienced in the airport. I am hoping one day I can stay in Reykjavik for a "real visit" on a future trip to Norway. I will definitely check out Reykjavik Roasters when I do!

When I was a teenager (ages ago!) I did a zigzag type of stitch like this but never got anywhere NEAR as creative as the things you’ve shown at the beginning.
I used to do ten rows with all different colors, then the next row was always black. All rows had the drop down stitch, every ten stitches. 🤔 …except maybe the black rows didn’t drop down. I can’t quite remember. Came out pretty cool though.
I love the idea of taking this to another level of creativity! Thank you so much for your tutorial. You are so much fun to listen to.

I just accidentally stumbled onto this tutorial. I’ve never heard of mosaic crochet before. But you have been what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been crocheting since I was a child. Mainly self taught by watching my great grandmother. I’m kinda bored with regular crochet. I’ve got a project started and I’m just not excited to keep going. But this mosaic crocheting is awesome. I can see where I can use up a lot of my yarn I have. I bought skeins and skeins of yarn when they are on sale but then I never have enough to do the project I fine but I think with this I could use them and create some very beautiful pieces that would be unique. They would also look very hard to do. I can’t wait to pull out some yarn tomorrow and give this a try. I’m looking forward to watching the next tutorial. I also want to say thank you for being so detailed in your instruction. I’m a very visual learner and I’m also very mathematic so explaining like you did your tutorial makes it easy for someone like myself to understand how and why each stitch is where it is and why its there so I could take what you have taught me and create my own pieces. Thank you so very very much for sharing this tutorial I am a huge fan. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn from you. Thank you again :)

I’m so excite. I’ve just finished row 5 and I haven’t had to pull out a stitch yet. I watched the video you suggested on using your stash and I’m using a white supersaver yarn which is a little bulkier than a 4 and a softer brown yarn that’s probably a 3 and it’s working just fine. You can see the pattern. My only thought when I watched the video and realized it’s mainly a single stitch was I hate single stitches. Basically because I’m impatient but this works up pretty fast. Of course I started with the 21 stitches like you did so it’s pretty quick anyway. But I love mosaic crochet. Thank you for introducing me and teaching. I can’t wait to watch the next video and start learning more designs. Thank you thank you !! 😍
