Thanks for commenting. (A vehicle resonant frequency of 41hz would be for a vehicle size like a Suburban. That car is probably closer to 55hz. From the moment he turned up the music the lowest frequency that popped up was 39hz. Maybe it was the song, but man, that box tuning has to be pretty high. 40-42 maybe? I wonder if an 8" or 10" aeroport would be the better option.)
There is no way that car is at a resonant frequency at 41Hz. You must have not did your resonance test in the center of the vehicle interior without the center console. Second thing your shop charges way too much cause that is the jankiest box I've ever seen being sold for a grand cuz.. The bolt terminals are super long for absolutely no reason(or it looked to be in this video) but I guess from you not seeing any of that extra money they were charging people you just said F it or something especially if it was your day off.. You should not try to be building boxes that are "giving the beans" far as I'm guessing peak power it definitely should be within RMS range and not within busting your subs up all the time range. Was it made out of something better than birch? Even if it was birch wood this is easily a $250 or lower box.. Carpet was all not even thought out and was just cut on the port showing wood..Should have been glued down at least even inside the thing. I'm not even going to put computations into anything and betting that's tuned to 39-40Hz since you noticed the cars resonant frequency was "41Hz" as you say and that could be a good thing for SPL but not for when somebody wants to bust their lungs open from turning it up as they seem to have wanted but seems you went with what you wanted to do.. No disrespect or nothing, just built the thing and delivered I suppose. Another thing which may not be your fault, but don't install amps onto sub boxes for it will kill your amplifiers electronics from the frequency vibrations.. For context I used to help build my cousin's systems for SPL and sound quality in his Tahoe's / Suburbans and other stuff hitting over 150+dB back in the mid 90's. Can't beat those Orion amps and JL's..anyways..I wouldn't pay over the cost of wood for that type of box..

invert one of the subs and fix the wireing according for it or invert both of them.. it wont be 32 but itll be better 1200$ for a simple box like that is ridiculous.. that thing should been like maybe 150.. a 1200 box is like some custom epoxy laser cut.. etc.. and itll be dead on specs for 1200
I listened to that song on my home stereo TV setup and my setup's response curve begins at 15 Hz. There is not a lot of bass in that song except for the beat which is not low at all and the synth bass, which is about a 'B' down to 'G' on a standard bass guitar. So, 4 or five more songs from different artists and shutting the doors/windows would show a greater range of actual frequencies heard and also, 39 Hz showed at least 3 times while the song was playing here. Perhaps an actual audio test CD is in order, as well. 🤗🤨😏
Nice. I always build my own boxes. My dc lvl415d4 is in a 4.76 cube after port bracing and subs. Tuned to 26hz. They get low. Gives a great back massage at 10hz on about 20 on the head unit. Turn off the mids and highs. Really can't hear much. Just feel it. Did I mention their in a yaris. 2 xs 1200, 4 ioxus supercaps, 325 singer. Running on a marts 8k.
DC Audio subs definitely sound better in boxes closer to spec. I have a level 4 12” in a 1.70 cube tuned to 33hertz and it sounds great all around. I built a 2 cube tuned to 33hrtz and the only difference is the Lowes were slightly louder but nothing of significance. In my opinion the 1.70 cube sounds better and performs better.
Almost seems like the builder built the box size to spec before subtracting the port displacement... which is pretty much what you said right after I posted comment lol. I should've finished watching before posting
I'm not sure what Sundowns those are, but on a 4k, a smaller box would help with cone control if they are being over powered. Maybe that was the builder's logic. Just because someone did it different, doesn't mean its wrong. Maybe he was being safe. The 1.5 cubes or so per sub, means it will have crisp punchy bass too. Me personally, I like 2.25 Cubes per 12 and closer to 16 cubic inches of port area. But, I like mine tuned to 35 Hz.
Im assuming a before and after video is in order for this situation. I would have liked to see what your truck did meter wise to see what frequencies were capable in that particular song since we know your setup is correct. Or used an amm1 or something similar to measure the frequencies in the audio track. Great video. Having a science background, i was thinking to myself, we need a constant factor to compare in this situation.

@toddcontino7271 The DD 2508's. And I have 2 DD 1500a amps pushing them. Each pair is wired to 1 ohm so I have an amp on each pair. Man your truck is going to slam bro!!!
I had to listen to him insinuate the box was wrong for 9 minutes before he got around to saying why it was wrong and more minutes for him to get around to saying what it needs to be.
They built the box like that to be able to slid a box in the trunk. Otherwise your gonna have to build it in the trunk. With the subs being in a smaller box he needs another amp on em. It will be around 150db. U series subs take a smaller box so he might be able to salvage the box and put those in there and see how they sound. I think the stereo shop was just trying to make it work with what the customer had and not build the box in the trunk. It would be way louder if the box was built in the trunk and sealed off with a bigger amp on em and of course more air space. If those are Z series you can go up to 24 cuin of port area Did some calculations of the box..... deducting the wood thickness I come up around 1.62 cuft per sub. He's gonna build up pressure in that box and its going to tear the cone or surround up. The XL series of DC audio would be a good option. Talked to them before about getting 4 of those subs and dude told me that 2 12s would do around 152 db that they have a lot of guys hitting those with the right box and car prep. big difference between a 2.2 cuft box and a 1.6 cuft box with a sub requiring 2.5 cuft.
I bought 2 8's for my car cause I wanted trunk space yet to be able to put groceries back there or whatever. I got a box made to the specs man I have no trunk space now anyways. The Skar ZVX 8's require such a bigger box than most 8's it's 2.5cuft Net after displacements proper box tuned to 38hz damn thing is massive but I'll tell you what it's loud and get's down and sounds so good. A proper box is a must if not then your only cheating yourself.
Hey MB. why do you have the SPL meter on the floor. here in Australasia we place it on the windshield at head height level. That would make more sense as its where the listening position is.
@Hotecce1- It depends on what organization you compete in. Every one thinks that there way is the best way to meter. Db drag meters on the passenger side Glass, with ALL windows up= not how people listen to music(with there heads up against the glass), Usaci puts the SPL meters in a steel globe, located in the passenger side, kick panel area(again not where people have there heads), & they allow any combination of doors, or windows to be open. Then there is in my opinion, the best way to meter= Meca Car Audio competitions, put the SPL meter on a seat, & about 26"/65 cm high( approx. @ Ear Level), with any combination of windows, or doors open= like in a Demo/Listening session.
What happens when you take a simple 25w x 2@ 4ohm amp and power 2 kicker solo 12" classics ? Is a 154db attainable? Please tell me its not possible! Interesting video. Quick question: My sub doesnt go up and down in volume with the factory radio. I have to use the bass knob thats connected to the amp in order to turn it up or down. Is it because I have the line out connected to a pre-amp'ed wire? Should I tap into the wire that's before the factory amp?
Need additional details. Is it a Chrysler/Dodge or not? What, and if you are using an additional amplifier for the sub. (Since you said you have a bass knob I will guess it's a second amp.) And now to the part where it sounds like you are not using a crossover or some kind of ....Really wondering what you mean by pre amplified wire? Talking about using your factory wires after it's amplifier without RCA jacks into HI output sensing for the sub amp? If so, yes you need non amplified before a factory amp signal to your other amp. So many variables to know really. Even with a bass knob it should output sound directly to the level of the head unit or factory unit at whatever you set that knob to and go up or down in volume.. Do you have your sub amp gains super low, or high? Sorry for such a long reply but I like helping people out, also does the factory head unit have RCA outputs on it?
@DarklordEntertainment no apologies needed. I do need the help. The factory radio of my 2017 mustang forsnt have an RCA jack. It has a factory amp and I do have the second amp wired to the rear deck speaker which is amped by the factory. I'll wire the second amp to audio wire that goes from the head unit to the amp and make adjust from there. It might just give me cleaner bass. Thanks for replying. I'll comeback and ask you more questions if needed. Thanks again.
@@God_Driven They make some line out converter type boxes for that year of mustang with the "Shaker" sound system, and probably the normal one but not quite sure if the normal one has an amplifier. Probably can go way cheaper than the only one I noticed on crutchfield unless you are into Rockford f's stuff. Anyways running the wire from the rears can work, but depends on that amp you are using, mind telling me what it is? Either case though you would get much cleaner signal from before the amplifier though as long as everything is grounded as it should be everywhere a long the route to the amp shouldn't have any whines or any sine waves happening. Mainly wanted to know the amp specifically to see what wattage it handles at the high outputs and usually they aren't or weren't made for such a huge signal or watts or whatnot... You're welcome eh.. Have fun. Now that I think about it that RF-DSR1 has something that helps control or keep the original computer in line or something which may be related to the volume leveling thing, but shouldn't be a problem if mounted before amp I'd hope. If that is the case though and you need something to alter the computer or ecu, then by all means it would be cheaper and more fun in the long run with a custom head unit and a way to mount it..Much cheaper..(Usually leaves the original amp unused though unless you have a harness for it.)
Also the speakers in that car are @2 Ohms and that amplifier sending signal is also 2 Ohms unless they are doing some trickery and just running them parallel and they seem to be 25w RMS.. So perhaps keep an eye out for that in the future.

From the moment he turned up the music the lowest frequency that popped up was 39hz. Maybe it was the song, but man, that box tuning has to be pretty high. 40-42 maybe? I wonder if an 8" or 10" aeroport would be the better option.)
☝🏿….. fact
Someone else already noticed this but your audio and video is not syncing correctly! If you haven't noticed :)

Thanks for what you do on here because it’s allot of people out here getting play over
You're a real stand up guy,im eventually gonna have a box by you for my 2000 expedition. I want 18's 2,or some strong 15's. I have have 2 8k taramps sitting waiting, but ive been working alot lately, plenty overtime because it seems like nobody wants to bro.
Man, he came to me first before them. I told him they wouldn't work. Most people go get the subs before they get a quote because they want it. Hate they did that to him, but I told him I could put one in there and do what he doing now but lower.
What would you suggest for dude? Just a better(bigger) box or does his car not have enough room for a sufficient box?
@@Peytonwatson14 he doesn't have the space. But there are subs like MBE told him DC lvl 4 12's resilient sounds gold 12's CT Sounds Strato 12's. Those subs take small boxes
People like to say they have 12s, but what’s the benefit if you can’t run em correctly?
@10spann ..True but a lot of ppl kno nuthin about subs foreal..just want wat they want and end up losing
@@10spann that makes sense. Hopefully he listen to yours and MB’s advice this time
Amen Preach MB we at @Street Ride & Tide Customs agree with everything you said
I believe you a DD dealer. Congrats
@@M.B.Enclosurescould he have turned the subs upside down and mounted them to help ?
that’s my guy Gholson man i’m glad you got him right im gonna have to get at you i need me one put together
Most shops in my area will build an enclosure. If said enclosure is halfway successful, they will keep replicating this enclosure. Even using various sub sizes in the same enclosure. I basically quit. Because they didn't abide by rules of Frequency and Vibration! Keep it Banging Cuz! Love your channel!
invert one of the subs and fix the wireing according for it or invert both of them.. it wont be 32 but itll be better
1200$ for a simple box like that is ridiculous.. that thing should been like maybe 150.. a 1200 box is like some custom epoxy laser cut.. etc.. and itll be dead on specs for 1200
I always luv your videos very informative and it was nice talking to you on the phone awhile back
I love being educated from your channel. Looks ain’t everything, cause it looks like it would tear the trunk apart.
Form follows function. Know your space. Learned that from this channel.
FACTS NOT FICTION. Love myron
Im gonna pause now and prepare to see this $1200 box 😂
I'm not sure what Sundowns those are, but on a 4k, a smaller box would help with cone control if they are being over powered. Maybe that was the builder's logic. Just because someone did it different, doesn't mean its wrong. Maybe he was being safe. The 1.5 cubes or so per sub, means it will have crisp punchy bass too. Me personally, I like 2.25 Cubes per 12 and closer to 16 cubic inches of port area. But, I like mine tuned to 35 Hz.
Great video bruh, very educational and informative! Was there something wrong with the audio or was it just me?
Im assuming a before and after video is in order for this situation. I would have liked to see what your truck did meter wise to see what frequencies were capable in that particular song since we know your setup is correct. Or used an amm1 or something similar to measure the frequencies in the audio track. Great video. Having a science background, i was thinking to myself, we need a constant factor to compare in this situation.
No lie he know what he talking about ! My 2 8s been doing killing !
Tell that guy to listen to MBE. Have MBE build you a box. He’ll take care of you. Whatever he tells you to do with the components you have, you’ll be happy.
I would much rather have one sub in the right box than two subs in the wrong box. For his car, maybe some 8's or 10's would work better.
u could run 12s too just some that dont need as much air space as the ones hes running. if his box has about 4 cubes of air volume he can run some decent 12s
I have 4 8" DD subs that are destroying my car. That's all he needs is 4 8's.
@@grandamwhich DD are you using? And how much power? I’m about to get four DC m4 8s for my 18 Silverado crew cab running a 2k now, plan on adding a second 2k in a couple months, but in a custom built sealed box for those DCs (.4 cu/ft per sub). Seeing how people are liking similar setups. Thanks! 🙏🏼
@toddcontino7271 The DD 2508's. And I have 2 DD 1500a amps pushing them. Each pair is wired to 1 ohm so I have an amp on each pair. Man your truck is going to slam bro!!!
@@grandamright on! Thanks man! It’s the first time I’m trying 8s myself
What program do you use to get all of the TS parameters for the box?
If those are Z series you can go up to 24 cuin of port area
Did some calculations of the box..... deducting the wood thickness I come up around 1.62 cuft per sub.
Once again good work MB I’m trying to get a box build for a 3 generation Camaro 1984 z28 two 12 inch avatars
that thing is BUMPIN damn
0:31 they charging me 1800 for my box add carpet 2k and for wires 2500 f that
How to understand how the voices don't match up with the lips
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, I’ve been designing a box and this video was my realization I need to make it bigger and tuned lower.
They straight got buddy. I sure as hell didn't see $1200 worth of work in that trunk plus box at wrong spec. Need to blast them on social media!
Move the box as far back as possible. Would be around $500-700 tops is all I see in that box.
Hey MB. why do you have the SPL meter on the floor. here in Australasia we place it on the windshield at head height level.
@evilinside5984 that's interesting. I had no idea that those different methods are used.
May have to get them 6.5 under this seat lift in my 2004 Ram.
Anywhere near 1000 is insane! Thats wild as hell
Temporarily invert them get better performance
You broke his heart and about to break his bank.
Man. I loved this video.
What happens when you take a simple 25w x 2@ 4ohm amp and power 2 kicker solo 12" classics ? Is a 154db attainable? Please tell me its not possible! That what the Kicker show truck told me in 1992, then I showed them, they had 6, and i had 2, mind you the db record then was 163db, which can physically break your bones. My whole system was under 300w @ 4 ohms
From experience, the song you chose to demo matters when metering. All songs don't have low frequencies. Sometimes the lowest recorded frequency maybe 40hz.
Question: What’s the recommendation box measurements for two Skar 15 ddx subs?
What's his set up? Just stock battery? Running two sundown's?
How can I get a box down
Man I’m going through this right now, that bastard got me 🤦🏻♂️

Yikes....i got a salt8 on three x10s doing 152
Some shops shouldnt be shops but you also gotta do your homework as the customer. Some people just have more money than sense.
M.B., what city are you located near?
Also, I just found out that for your door speakers and side speakers you can put in your vehicle specs on the Pioneer site and it'll show you what will work from what Pioneer offers
Shiii, I'm only hittin at about 112, but it's a take your breath drop at that level. I'm running shallow mount jl audio 12's in a sealed underseat box in a 00 silverado extended cab, so I'm just within the airspace limits
Those sundowns in the right box will absolutely y smash the lows.....
Great info always Fact not Fiction !
Though this is a genius level conversation… you wouldn’t know it unless you REALLY listened to what’s being said.
@DarklordEntertainment The amp is a NVX BDA7501 powering a 10inch 1000rms sub. I think I'm going to get a line out converter.
how do u get it so it sounds solid and not rattling the metal of the car , that rattle sounds awful when u hear cars riding past
You just got a new subscriber!.. we need to talk, homie
I remember when I asked my local shop about a 8 to 9 cube box and they looked at me like I was crazy. One of them even said I don’t need that big of a box… I just walked out.
I have 2 xv3 15s in almost 20cube rn now 😂😂over 150 2200watts
I just bought a car that has 2 12s in a box in the trunk of a 04 accord it’s a well let’s say at home setup wasn’t working subs were going in protection mode redid the connections I got it to bump but I can’t turn the volume all the way up I’m assuming I need more power or something but idk it’s the 12s two upgraded door speakers everything else stock
Make sure your ground is getting a good connection, and you have heavy enough wiring for the amp power and ground.

Wtf are you talking about. Lol. The box may be tuned to 32hz it'll only oral work the music he played.
And the resonant frequency of the car will likely be closer to 41hz.

Wondering what sins and box I need for my 2006 chrysler 300c
The 300 has the same trunk size as the Charger and Challenger, you have enough room for 2 12s, but don't really need more than 2 8s or 10s. I'm running 2 Sundown 8s in a 2010 300C.
How much would you charge me to build a subwoofer box with 4 12” in the back seat of a Chevy Camaro 2014
Lol-ol-ol funny i have a two 12 box designed specifically for competing in subsonic suicide which it took 3rd place in the nation and with two Zv4 12's in it the box ends up being exactly 4cu after disp with a very long 8in aeroport tuned into the dirt and still to this day is thee most violent n nasty 2-12 setup I've heard! I ran a pair of Dave Lieb Designs upgraded X12's in it on two Skar sk3500's strapped! mannn I wish i had some vids of that setup but thankfully i still have the box and subs just be running them on different amps but yeah either way Ralph Wallace from Jamestown NY designed and built that box then took 3rd in the nation for subsonic suicide in the trunk class with pair a zv4 12's in it each on its own Nendo 6k so if done properly you can certainly get away with having a smaller enclosure and can see lots of benefits from doing so...
