Planespotting HIGHLIGHTS: Heavy Military Operations & Cargo Flights

- Dear friends,
During the past few years, we have been able to capture a lot of military flights, military charters, and cargo operations! We have made you a compilation of some heavies that we recorded during the past years!
A lot has changed during the last few years. The USAF nearly retired all their KC-10A, starting the replacement of the Extenders with the newer KC-46. Last week the KC-10 Farewell tour took place and a visit to Ramstein was on their route. Luckily we have been able to capture the landing and departure, which we will also publish here soon!
The Lufthansa MD-11F D-ALCD, shown twice in this video, started her new life as N784SN in the United States! Now flying for Western Global Airlines, this airframe will still be around for some years.

I remember it like yesterday, we came back from Ramstein Air Base with the info, that the MD-11F would take off shortly before sunset. We thought that, like it happens often in the cargo branche, the flight would delay and depart during night, but we gave it a try! :) Sad that she is not around anymore.
The sound of that DC-8. WOW.
Lovely sound indeed! When I walked back to the car parking, a lot of people were talking about the beatiful sound! I smiled behind the camera while filming, the screaming engines are really it!

it's nice to see that someone is still using MD-11. Very good plane.
But hard not to wince when thinking about what MD did to Boeing after the merger.
But DC-10 is coming to an end soon
3:40 wow! You don't expect a plane with that fine a livery to be over 55 years old. Those engines look like a refit though.

Yes, DC-8-70 was refitted with CFM56s in the 80s. Quite a few were done for DHL, UPS etc. I think this is the only one still flying now

So sad that no more C-17's are being made. It's a good-looking and amazingly capable cargo aircraft. The emergency evacuations from Afghanistan showed that perfectly. 823 people in a single cargo-hold! I also remember learning as a kid the amazing fact that it can reverse itself just using it's engines.
Biden's catastrophic exit with poor desperate Afghans falling to ther deaths from the Globemaster's undercarriage and folding mechanisms will always be imprinted on people's minds though.

Indeed it is a plane that sadly is rare around the world. Luckily Austin Lloyd, SecDef of the USA, is travelling with the E-4B quite often! So also in the past years to STR!

Some intriguing origins and destinations there. Where's Sigonella Naval Air Station? It's only 2.5 hours from Frankfury so it must be in Europe. Wonderful haunting sound from the KC-10 in the last shot.

Noticing a lot of the aircraft in this video are very old, even though they do not appear to be when you look at them. I guess it's because they are all cargo or military?

2:25 wow that's a 30 year old plane! I wonder how much longer operators will use the MD-11F. Also, why are they using them?
its because it can hold a lot of cargo and they dont cost as much as price and maintenance

I wonder when the USAF will retire that E-4B. With drones being so capable nowadays you could just make a large drone and put all those instruments on it instead of flying such a beast around with a bunch of people on board. You'd save a ton of money on maintenance and operational cost.
Isn't the point of it that it's an emergency command post for the President and government? But yes, I suppose they could be replaced by drones. Some might say they already have 😒
