People shouldnt forget that in 99.9% of all rockbands the bass is not a solo instrument, but is there to connect the rhythm with the melody section and gene has done a perfect job in that matter for the last 50years
Gene has said it himself that he prefers to keep things simplistic (either he doesn't want to put in the effort or he lets the image do the work for him). If anything, Gene was the first bassist to show me how awesome the instrument is overall and he does it with a lot of style.
let's face it: Gene's talent was his songwriting, roaring vocals and solid basslines behind Paul&Ace; he was not a virtuoso with the bass but that's not the point.
Japan is like a 2nd home for KISS. (Eversince their very 1st Japan tour in 1976.) & every J-music artists, Rock, METAL, pop, & idols from past to present idolizes KISS. KISS became a part of their Japanese culture. \m/
The fact is that gene was playing very simple stuff but did it infront of thousands of fans and looked like a million bucks doing it. Nothing wrong with that at all
@@rudolphdrasler2697 no need to be a van halen to compose good song. any of the beatles couldn't shred on a guitar and they are still a band who wrote songs who became anthem 👀
Yeah, at least here Gene is playing an actual melody. When he did the blood solo, he would just pound away at the E string to create a "growling" effect.
Yeah but listen to songs like "Loves a deadly weapon" and you can see that if he wanted to ,he could put a killer bass solo together. He just likes to entertain and there is nothing wrong with that. KISS STILL RULES!!!!
@dan420420 This riff just proves that something this simple speaks volumes since the audience reacts to it. Again, some of the simplest stuff makes the biggest impact. Not every bass player HAS to be like Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, John Entwhistle to be a bass player. I am sure that Gene could do something much fancier, but that is not who he is. Give him a break.
this is what I do not understand is y if you do not like what the vid is then y the hell are you here watching it none of you have made a valid argument so with that said do not judge anyone till you have something to brag about
So I've been researching this heavily and it seems in his favor he is able to write some catchy bass lines and back in the 70s when he was doing bass solos and stuff which can be seen on RUclips he was actually reasonably proficient. Not a superstar, not a virtuoso but pretty damn good back in the day...HOWEVER now it seems he has HEAVILY regressed over the decades to the point where can barely play a scale or learn anything as kind of displayed in the Carol Bass Lesson video, he didn't know what was going on. It also seems he has simplified a lot of songs and made things easier and we don't even know IF he plays live anymore, there's my two cents anyway and yeah in this video he displays himself as someone barely at an intermediary standard.
Gene has charisma and is also a pretty canny songwriter, who cares if he isn't a prodigy. Most of the greatest rock stars aren't prodigys either, they just do what they do really well. Musical snobbery drives me insane,
I love gene, but goddamn you took the words right out of my mouth. I hope something went wrong with that show and he had to just go kill a couple of minutes and that wasn't a staple because that was just ridiculous.
Ava Marie Sprenger actually, this was a part of the show. saw KISS on this tour back in Dec 87', i remember. it's just a quick little groove to get the crowd going. Gene never did any spectacular bass solos.
Gene was never the most technically gifted bassist but what he did with a bass guitar good stuff. Melodic bass playing that wasn’t always playing the same things the guitars where for example. He was a good bassist.
I love Eric Carr and Gene Simmons together. Love that funky beat, this is much better than Genes solo in Make - Up. The blood spitting is meaby original and classic, but its not cleverly.
You know, I'm a drummer. When I first started I was able to play some Queen songs. I never said to my self " roger taylor is a terrible drummer " you know why? Because he's not. Same with gene.
IDC what ppl say! Gene is a genius! He had a vision & found the right guys with that same vision! Paul Peter & Ace! KISS from 1973-1979 was a special time in history!
Gene now says that for the most of the eighties he "Wasn't there" looking absolutely ridiculous on stage in the multicolored spandex and that Joan Jett wig. In the late eighties however he got his focus back, this all black leather suit harked back to the make up days, he probably realized "I am THAT Gene Simmons, so I should once again look like THAT Gene Simmons!"
Y'know some people would say that Gene Simmons has grown into a corporate douchebag over the decades. But what does he care?......He's effing Gene Simmons. He could play one note and it would be METAL.
No, as many say Peter was untalented. But that's not true. Paul musically in guitar playing was the worst in the band. Then came gene, then Peter and yes ace is the most talented
Victor Zuri Ace and Peter where the most talented imo. Ace could play guitar so good and Peter had arguably the best voice in kiss and was a great drummer in his prime
Donde esta el solo de bajo? No hizo nada en sus show nunca improvisa algún solo decente no soy bajista pero como algo decente no puede hacer para el publico
I’ve just checked out a bunch of his solos. Have to be honest, for all the acclaim, I expected something way more interesting to the musical ear. He actually was playing riffs from other Artists’ songs. And when he played his own, the lines were monochromatic, colorless. But as far as being an engaging entertainer who knows how to round up an audience and keep them mesmerized, he definitely scores high there and in marketing. He’s like a musical McDonalds, lots of packaging but poor grade substance. Hey, to each their own preference.
^ found the jealous wanna-be musician who is bitter he never made it and he thinks what he plays and listens to is "real" music. Don't worry, I'm sure Kiss' 40+ year long career will end once everyone reads your comment.
People shouldnt forget that in 99.9% of all rockbands the bass is not a solo instrument, but is there to connect the rhythm with the melody section and gene has done a perfect job in that matter for the last 50years
bass
@@leftjabrighthook smart ass
His solos were more about the performance than the actual solo
As simple as it was, that riff was funky.
Gene has said it himself that he prefers to keep things simplistic (either he doesn't want to put in the effort or he lets the image do the work for him). If anything, Gene was the first bassist to show me how awesome the instrument is overall and he does it with a lot of style.

Yep bass ( and specially in rock) is more about rythym and groove
End? Who care.
Yea but some of his chops are pretty hard to play
Lmfao definitely not songwriting. His lyrics are goofy af and his best songs needed heavy refinement.
I love Genes smile at the end X3, also, his 80s solos were so funky and awesome. Gene +Eric FTW!!
I love this drum sound.
this is actually better than any nikki sixx bass solo. thats not sayin much
Like saying "I don't have liquid diarrhea, now it is slightly less liquid".
no it's not better than Nikki's solos
Just because the solos are simple doesn't mean they're bad
I actually learned how to play this solo today by listening to it .
i love u Gene 💜
Japan is like a 2nd home for KISS. (Eversince their very 1st Japan tour in 1976.) & every J-music artists, Rock, METAL, pop, & idols from past to present idolizes KISS.
KISS became a part of their Japanese culture. \m/
Kabuki make-up tbw ;)
Gene looks like his son so much here.
Nice.....and the drums like a bomb!!!!
listen to genes bass playing on Monster. He has great riffs and runs on this album
I was there!
solo was cool
he´s not the biggest bass-player but he knows to entertain the audience
Simple solo but it's not all about technicality, if it sounds good then who cares.
@Garegh62 nailed it
It's objectively awful. Kiss have literally NO talent. My 5 year old cousin can play better bass than Gene.
The fact is that gene was playing very simple stuff but did it infront of thousands of fans and looked like a million bucks doing it. Nothing wrong with that at all
Did they cut it off before it started sounding good?
@@rudolphdrasler2697 no need to be a van halen to compose good song. any of the beatles couldn't shred on a guitar and they are still a band who wrote songs who became anthem 👀
That was amazing -3KISS-3
I wish the was complete. There's only a few seconds missing but they're damn good seconds.

Does anyone know if there's a bass tab for this somewhere ? I really wanna learn it !
Did you ever learn it lmao
in my opinion the best gene looked.
It seems Gene dont like bass solos but his bass lines still rules
This is marginally better than the Nikki sixx bass solo in tacoma lol
I love the simple grooves Gene plays, leave the virtuosity to guys like Billy Sheehan and Geddy Lee
@dan420420 This riff just proves that something this simple speaks volumes since the audience reacts to it. Again, some of the simplest stuff makes the biggest impact. finally someone who is not dumb
rock out gene simmons. kiss rules!
Gene is cool
Yes, I love his bass solos, but I don’t think this kind of solos is better when he spits blood
you should be able to get it by hearing, its not that complex. I want to learn it too Gene is the man!

@gojira931 you are welcome! his Japanese is GOOD :)

I had this concert as a bootleg on cassette years ago. Can someone please tell me what Gene says at 0:41 please ???
He basically said “I will love you” in Japanese
So short!! so gene simmons haha
Is that the jackson axe from Animalize or some other brand? I always loved the Jackson axe for whatever reason. I can't explain😅
@AyakoJackson26 thank you
Gene has charisma and is also a pretty canny songwriter, who cares if he isn't a prodigy. Most of the greatest rock stars aren't prodigys either, they just do what they do really well. Musical snobbery drives me insane,
bass solo ?¡ , bass performance.
Greatest bass player in the world. Sorry haters.
He is really proud of himself isn't he!
I am NOT knocking Gene Simmons........but if YOU needs tabs to learn how to play this, you might as well give up playing bass.
I love gene, but goddamn you took the words right out of my mouth. I hope something went wrong with that show and he had to just go kill a couple of minutes and that wasn't a staple because that was just ridiculous.

@gojira931 he said "I love you" :)
The original Hatchet Man. Whoop Whoop! Lol.
Tabs?
R.I.P Drum Legend Eric "The Fox" Carr
@gojira931 I believe he said "I love you all".
I love Eric Carr and Gene Simmons together.

ALGUIEN ME PUEDE ayudar con las partituras de este solo
Ummm........where is the bass solo??
This looks like a impovisation ... this shouldnt be called bass solo
I found it all within the a-minor scale, in case you're still wondering =)
Nikki Sixx, U JUST GOT OWNED!!!
Gene Simmons = more funk and R&R in 4 simple notes than any arrogant jerk flying around with the 6 string...
Gene is Rnb based style
YOOOOOOOO
@juanparty CAUSE HE DID
Oh hes playing solo , not playing a solo. The arrogant smile of look how great I am , I can play 4 notes of a scale, I am a god
Ive played for a month or 2 and i can play that
You know, I'm a drummer. When I first started I was able to play some Queen songs. I never said to my self " roger taylor is a terrible drummer " you know why? Because he's not. Same with gene.
Gene plays a mighty good ego! Don't know what that bass is doing there tho..
@loombaron
Omg we get it. You don't have to comment 4 times god
What did Gene say in Japanese?
What did he say in Japanese?
He said "I love you all".
Godzilla is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zach Haywood "We lost Eric Singer in the crowd, don't step on him."
I suck at playing the bass!!!!
even though he has minimal technical skill, he does lay down a nice grove
IDC what ppl say! Gene is a genius! He had a vision & found the right guys with that same vision! Paul Peter & Ace!
KISS from 1973-1979 was a special time in history!
he reminds me of nikki sixx in this vid

Sure Cliff is turning in his grave
cadê as maquiagens?
That's not a bass solo
Y'know some people would say that Gene Simmons has grown into a corporate douchebag over the decades. But what does he care?......He's effing Gene Simmons. He could play one note and it would be METAL.
If there's one thing I hate, It's a fuckin base solo.
doesn't even need to play good...we all know is the god of bass
am I the only one who thinks it's too short?
A five year old could play that.
many bass lines on classics Kiss are much better than that. Never understood why he never did a good solo.
hardly a bass solo.....
this is the only solo of gene that is cool
the sauce is weak
I bet your skin flute solo is top notch!
And the beef strong
Ace was the best musician of the original line up, followed by Gene. Paul and Peter were too limited.
No, as many say Peter was untalented. But that's not true. Paul musically in guitar playing was the worst in the band. Then came gene, then Peter and yes ace is the most talented
Victor Zuri
Ace and Peter where the most talented imo. Ace could play guitar so good and Peter had arguably the best voice in kiss and was a great drummer in his prime
when you first start playing bass, one of the very first things you learn is who the best were and who the worst were. Gene Simmons is the latter
Donde esta el solo de bajo? No hizo nada en sus show nunca improvisa algún solo decente no soy bajista pero como algo decente no puede hacer para el publico
Fun video but FALSE LYING TITLE. No bass solo here. Just introing a song with Eric.
no jodas... mi abuela hace mejores riff...!!!
NOT a solist

The so called bass solo is a joke
showman...yes. Good bass player...nope.
I don't understand how somebody who has played the bass for fifty plus years can be so consistently mediocre.
Lots of money can make some people a bit lazy I suppose.
and there is the clown crossing his arms and thinks! " i just made the best solo in the history of universe!
Probably thinking they will cheers anything.
What a BS "solo". I never thought Simmons could play bass.
hahahaha very elemental bass, sorry. he is a great entertainer but never a good bass player
Yuck
GARBAGE...
The worst bass player in R&R history
Yet the most known bass player in rock n roll.
How and why and im not a kiss fanboy but yes there are others greater but come on he earned his fame unlike others these days
An absolute embarrassment to bass playing and bass players.
How many records have you sold?
^ found the jealous wanna-be musician who is bitter he never made it and he thinks what he plays and listens to is "real" music. Don't worry, I'm sure Kiss' 40+ year long career will end once everyone reads your comment.
+Garegh62 lol you hate them so much that you know everything about them and write a 5000 word essay about why no one else should like them
Garegh62 you do know Gene tours solo also? Look up Gene Simmons band. He's playing some right dives.
Conan 1812 stfu you are probably Garegh62 on an alt account your loser.
