22-minute mark. Love your videos, Devin. Been watching you for quite some time now. One thing I would like to mention is that Twitch Prime doesn't come at a 50/50 split or what I have noticed as a smaller content creator. I and a lot of my friends on the platform who are smaller creators have never got more than $2 per twitch prime sub. E.G. last month I had 1 prime sub and can see the revenue share from that was $1.77. Not to mention that I started to backtrack my subscriptions per month and noticed that I am not on a 50/50 split for quite some time(altho in the Insight analytics it says that I am on 50/50). Every month I have between $7 - $8 missing from Subs revenue share and don't think I'm the only one affected by this.
Absolutely correct at 4:20 Now smaller creators have less to shoot for. Giving everyone a 70/30 is one of the feedbacks I gave to Twitch Months & months ago.
this is how u know twitch is moving from a growth company to a mature/value oriented one. Todays creators need to keep their options open & grow all aspects of their online presence/brand.
I don't understand how someone like you thinks. Everyone I know has as 70/30 split, regardless of what people are saying; they've been offering them all year. You get 15 views on a video, that's why you're not offered that.
About the only incentive left to the Twitch platform is the emote culture and lore - if that can be translated successfully to YT space, there'll be nothing left to hold people
Love how Devin actually knows Kai makes super unique content, probably the best on twitch. Its not just reacts content. Its just so crazy to see how big Kai has gotten and people want to talk bad about him. Ive been seeing kai for the past 7 or 8 years. I first saw him on Facebook making skits with Ron suno, Ron actually was way bigger than Kai, now Kai is 1000x bigger than ron garbago. Most people cant stick to one thing for over 8 years so salute to Mr. Cenut.
>super unique content not just react content NIGGA NIGGA NIGGA NIGGA NIGGA NIGGA 100% NIGGA, I'm not hating on him but he isn't unique or the best hes just an average streamer who got super popular off of clout sucking
Stayed for the 22 min mark, I have on every video I've started since just a few months ago. I'm an aspiring FGC content creator and your videos have definitely given me some perspective I otherwise would not have acquired quickly. I signed up for novo in hopes of getting brand deals and have started pumping out content on youtube while streaming less on twitch. I don't think I'm ready to give up the money I get there atm to multi-stream (it isn't much, but it goes directly to editors, artists, ect) but I'm hoping I can avoid burnout before I can make this a full-time thing (I'm still a w-2 employee as well). Anyway thank you for all the insight, it's incredibly helpful. Hope to see you an fgc event one day!
Really curious to know your take on income taxes with the same perspective of getting a chunk of your revenue taken away by a business partner that can change their cut at will.
Callout Club 22 boiii been watching you for years devin, I've been keeping notes throughout my journey on your channel and you have helped me grow and also feel at ease when content isnt doing so great. appreciate your channel man, I might become a Patreon Supporter this week
I’m 22 minutes in babeee!! I currently stream on Facebook and was going to switch to twitch. Thank you for this information, it really opened my eyes so I’m staying put. 😂
Another great video. I think one of the core issues that you lightly touched on is that Twitch subs don't really offer much value. Life streaming needs more "must have" features that can be leveraged using subs. RUclips is a bit better with this in my opinion, as it's more culturally lenient towards stuff like superchats and members only streams. But still, Patreon really is the kind when it comes to being able to tailor your subscription service to your audience.
22:00 Secret Club signing in. I'm curious if Twitch will eventually cave and revert to a 70/30 global split or if Amazon/Clancy are going to keep pushing for profitability over creators in the coming months/years.
Hey devin, 22 minute club here. I'm wondering if you would consider adding video chapters on your RUclips content. It can help to break the video up into smaller pieces, and is especially helpful when trying to find a specific point in your video to reference back to. Since your content is very informative and (at times) monotonous, it can help some viewers find the content they are specifically looking for.
Hey I'm here at 22 min, always loving your videos Devin! Do you think twitch is setting itself up to be bought by another company, and if so what company would benefit from buying twitch?
hey I'm here 22 SECRET, just want to say ive watched your videos and use to watch your live streams back on twitch, since b4 I was a streamer on twitch. (I was a mixer streamer), I was one of the lucky few who saw the red flags of mixer and moved the Twitch, and I couldn't agree more with everything you post. I've been saying for a good while that it feels like twitch is a slowly sinking ship and rather then plugging and repairing the hole they are bleeding the communities of $$ to try and make as much as they can with what of its limited life is left.
This affects such a small % of people it is difficult for most to concern themselves. Having said that a standard of 70/30 split with twitch pushing more ads would benefit all parties.
Here are the 22 minute mark. Your video makes a lot of sense. I do worry for the future of discoverability and the general health of Twitch in the long term. I hope they can work something out to keep content creators interested in Twitch as a platform versus the rivals.
Twitch did something sneaky that is going to affect all small streamers up to 10% of their revenue - They changed a lot of their free transfers, to now include a $5 fee, then they lowered the payout amount to $50 so now they will take up to 10% of your payout in payout fees.
13:57 I totally agree with how you said "You can control your audience better." I have been streaming on Twitch for a lil more than a yr and the audience (community) is what's stressing me out the most, 'cause these viewers are like everybody else's viewers and if they don't prioritize your stream over others or if they're not your biggest fans, they might show up, but will not support you. I used to put so much into streams financially by doing giveaways, etc. although I wasn't really making so much money 'cause I thought it was all investment, but when I saw these viewers take things from me and enjoy everything for free while donating big bucks to other streamers who don't necessarily put more effort than you or who isn't necessarily doing an acknowledgeable job, it just really threw me off and I lost so much respect or hope for these viewers. It ain't going to matter if they're not in love with you and you're their #1 fan. That was really disappointing...
Just made it to minute 22. As a small streamer, I really appreciate the insights you give here. As a small streamer, I definitely appreciate all the insight you've given on Twitch as a platform. It makes me realize that I have options!
One piece of math I wish I would've heard more when this first came out was how few streamers this actually impacts. $100,000/year at 70% share would mean roughly 28,500 subs/year or ~2300 subs/month. For streamers at 50% share, assuming they have no contract, this would jump to 40,000 subs/year or ~3,300 subs/month. Based on twitchtracker, this would be 633 creators or 422 creators depending on what split exists for them.
22 min club. I started streaming a year ago and found your videos on Twitch vs RUclips. I made the decision to not sign the affiliate contract and just multi-stream and build up both channels. I figured I had a full time job and there was no immediate rush to make money. Twitch is where I'm building a larger community, however I've just started to see RUclips gain momentum. As a digital marketer in my full time job it's been super interesting to just take my time with this and explore these channels (combined with TikTok and Instagram) - can't wait till I'm able to stream on TikTok to test the waters there. Only thing I'd like now is for more hours in the day and energy to create more innovative content...but for now I'm just enjoying building a community and being in a creative space again. Thanks again for the great content.
@Devin Nash, Do you know what the costs for web hosting are to twitch? Like what does it cost them to provide the platform and hosting service to people with no to very few viewers, given that ad revenue is based on views? Also hello to the 22 minute club. :)
22minutes here, there's a few things I'd be interested to hear your analysis on like the reuben sim v roblox lawsuit and possibly anything on LOL worlds or something
RUclips will not keep those same splits once twitch changes. twitch announced it so far out so that other companies can quietly collude. If RUclips doesn’t, then twitch will give “special deals” to adjust back closer to 30. The future of the streamer will cross stream on all or several sites while each site will take more cut.
Thanks for making this video, I also hope you talk about that dumbshit LSF have been talking about him "botting" Kai has been grinding for a long long time. Also funny how people say they do this once a black streamer that really isnt "ad" friendly becomes the biggest streamer on the platform, and of course this decision has been in the works for a while.
LOL same. I left Twitch and went to RUclips a little over a year ago. Most people thought I was absolutely insane, and I had some friends who would support me no matter what, but were still like, “but WHY go to RUclips?” I used to REALLY struggle with that decision, not knowing if I did the right thing, especially since I had people on Twitter every day telling me I was stupid for streaming on RUclips. These days though with all the Twitch news lately, I am very firmly Team RUclips
Hey I'm here at 22, I'm still listening ! Twitch is definitely going down hill fast. When people start streaming on multiple platforms it will definitely cripple twitch numbers. Biggest example I can think about is when I am watching Pro LOL or Pro Valorant (since they stream on both twitch and youtube) I watch it on RUclips because I'm not bombarded with advertisements throughout the stream. I can also rewind when I want to see a play made in the stream again .
The point about cutting loss is a point I've been making. Microsoft and Amazon are similar companies in value. Microsoft tossed a ton of $ at Mixer but when they realized it was a loss and wasn't likely to turn around they dumped it. It's not impossible to believe that IF Twitch keeps costing Amazon $ month after month at some point big Amazon will drop the site.
Long story short, I've only just realised that you were Mylixia on Twitch... I use to watch your stream 😂I've been watching this channel for over a year, and only discovered that you were Mylixia because of the suggestion on YT when typing in Devin Nash, it suggested Devin Nash Dancing... Whoever hasn't seen that video, treat yourselves!
22 min comment club and beyond! Thanks for another really informative vid! Cannot wait for the restream video! I've noticed an increase in veriship by using restream. it just makes sense to do it and it's amazing how blinded people are to the benefits. It's almost like they're brainwashed. "Diluting a brand", "not a good experience for viewers", just all bs reasons.
22:45 Wish I could get myself off the ground. I'm staying consistent and doing some good work on some of my platforms, but it just seems like my life will never be okay, but I'll keep working to try and make a life.
Thanks Devin. On the subject of Prime... would that expense be subsidised or recovered somewhat from game companies paying to participate in giving free loot away to Twitch Prime users? or is Twitch paying Riot and others to partner into the Prime loot system?
22:00 club waiting to add any additional callouts later on :) . 27:00 You have to keep in mind though that a company can't really take back something they have given like Twitch Prime. If theoretically they had instead decided that having Twitch Prime would give you an entirely Ad free experience everywhere on the platform, and then they took it away, they would be destroyed by the backlash right? Oh wait.....
losing that money is rough, reason why people need to know Twitch isn't the best platform when it come to the future of a brand. It seems nice at the time but is it really that great for the future.
it is absolutely amazing that people still think prime subs are going to stick around, even after costing $50m a month, AND it decreases the amount of people who view ads which is another revenue stream for Twitch.
It is but also it isn't. No real reason to wish harm just because someone is rich, but also no reason to think too much about their wellbeing, they already have more than enough resources take care of themselves.
22 minute club! Woohoo! Ok, question: Is Twitch just on life support and we’re waiting for the plug to be pulled? Every video I watch or article I read, it seems more and more that it’s not a case of “Twitch needs to do something to turn this around” and more “Is Twitch done in one year, three years, etc.?” Is there any reality we’re it becomes a successful platform again?
22 min secret club. Thanks for the great insights. I stopped watching twitch years ago. Maybe because I'm old and don't feel like interacting with a chat, but I also agree that the core product offering is definitely getting worse.

22 min secret club. Thanks for the great insights. I stopped watching twitch years ago. Maybe because I'm old and don't feel like interacting with a chat, but I also agree that the core product offering is definitely getting worse.
I'm here at the 98 Minute Mark... super secret 98 Minute Club! Don't tell ANYONE!
