    Nobody plays as a commander so AC130 is irrelevant. I just wish it would crash land and act as a mini levolution.

    The gunship is not overpowered. There is a million different ways to take it out. Just take the objective that connects with the gunship. An good AA driver could easily take out a gunship in less than 10 seconds.

      Notice how in the right hand corner where it shows who's in the gunship as if levelcap isn't telling dice to fix it. This is why Bf has been sucking.

      I would not mind one bit if they removed as tanks. Ruins the game sometimes. You don't see very many people going 53-0 in a tank or apc, but any decent player can do that in AA unless they get ganged up on, no soldier is going to be able to stop it one volly of the chain guns rips to peices engineers and it taking 4 laser guided rockets from an a-10 to destroy (if the driver doesn't repair while you reload) makes it way op vs aircraft.

    AC-130 isn't powerful enough, I liked MW2 when you heard "AC-130 above", everyone ran into the closest building

    I like it as it is. I think it should be a huge threat, its a damn AC-130! If a scout heli with 2 reps can terrorize a whole team, then a giant gunship should be able to do so equally if not better

      It's got a lot of countermeasures and tons of gun power. An average jet pilot will have to get real close to take it down correctly or risk being shot down themselves.

    Here's a balance: Give the US an AC-130 and give RU a Submarine. Like jets on rush in BF3 let them take eachother out until 1 is standing. The one standing can rock the battlefield until the other respawns in random spots. Give CN flying and diving ninjas to balance it out.

      so RU can eazy destroy AC130 but US how they destroy submarine :/ if its in under the water or it's on the surface its hard to get it down

    I think you hinted at the solution by accident. It should have a 90 seconds respawn delay as all air vehicles have. That way it could still be useful and not always present.

      its already useless and always has been the fucking thing goes down in like 1 minute. at max.
      a jet can kill it in 2 strafes. maybe even in 1

    The gunship needs no nerf at all. You SHOULD be afraid of it, and you SHOULD get the flag that gives the enemy commander the ability to deploy it. If you don't want to get mowed down just get your jet pilot to do his job. If that's not possible (aka no jets in the map) lase it with the recon's binaculars and someone WILL take it down. A lased gunship is a dead gunship. The AC-130 is sheer terror in real life situations, and I believe it should also be like that in the game, not because of realism, but because of its nature. Why would it even exist if it could not do any considerable damage? I agree with a comment I saw though, its deployment time should have a 30 sec or even 1 minute cooldown. That way you have some time to re-capture the flag that gives the asset to your commander, so your team can have the air support instead. Objections and opinions are welcome.

      I'm 100% with you. I don't understand why more people don't see it this way... IT'S A FREAKING AC-130! It's supposed to have devastating firepower, that's it's single purpose, it can't do much else.
      The meta game needs to be considered more I think. Think of BF4 as a RTS (at least from the commanders perspective anyway), prioritize the flag that gets you the AC-130 and defend that flag with everything you have.
      People who rage about the the AC-130 being OP often forget that all you have to do is recapture the flag that gives your team access to the thing, and that flag is more than likely poorly defended.
      I agree with the increased cooldown though, I'd even go so far as to make it a 5min cooldown and increase the firepower of the AC-130 even more.

      I agree too, it's not OP at all. Yes the flag is an easy target and if a team defends it well then theres always more letters in the alphabet to capture. If your in a jet its a one pass kill which if feel was a bit quick and easy points so more HP for the AC I think is fair, with a much longer respawn time 1 or 2 mins seems balanced.

      I agree, the only thing that is bad about it is it's spawntime, as you mentioned, it should be reduced.

    just seeing this in my recommended and lol I played Bf4 since release date I went to the midnight ( y'all remember how poppin those were back then) and fuckin to this day had no idea you can get an AC130 gunship with the commander CAUSE LIKE NOT ONE PERSON EVER DID IT like it was such a cool idea I wish it got used more and not just forgotten about

      I agree to a certain point. I think every community has people in it who actually try to criticise constructively. Even though I kinda think BF's community does this more intensively than others it's still a matter of how active you are in other communities.. If you don't ever read/watch news on other games you only hear the complaints from time to time but not the suggestions. Does that make sense? :D

      I think you have to consider the fact that DICE seems to be quite "receptive" to the community's criticism and suggestions. From my experience, other companies produce their game the way they want and don't give a shit about what the players think...

    Make it more resistant, but only allow a single one to spawn. Once it gewst destroyed, it's done, no more AC130 for the rest of the round. That way if the other team is oblivious it's just their fault, otherwise the team who has the AC-130 could focus a bit on trying to protect it.

      Well, not no more AC-130 after destroy, but maybe it'd be good to leave it's vulnerability as it is and make it spawn FAR more rarely (make the Commander cooldown for it bigger). Also, it's a good idea to have no AC-130 in maps with no jets.

      Nikolay Stoynov Nah, I think having just one very powerful AC130 could lead to some very interesting games, because everyone would be aware of the incredible importance of keeping it alive to maintain a certain superiority, or to destroy it to negate such an advantage. Hell, they could even make a game mode focused on just that, and remove it completely from all other game modes. Actually forget what I said before, I like this idea. Make it happen dice(sure, they will.).

      The Drunk Knight How would a team keep the AC-130 alive in the first place? You can't repair it (not to my knowledge at least) and you can't really stop enemy players from being engineers to shoot it down, unless you can magically spawn kill them somehow

      Not directly, just, you know... by killing the enemy. Or they could make it so that you can actually move around in the AC130 and so repair it from the inside, but the enemy could shoot holes through the AC130 with rocket launchers so you wouldn't be safe runnin' around and you'd get sucked out if you got too close to the hole or something, or get burnt by the fire caused by the explotion or whatever. Still, this is just idle talk, nothing's gonna come out of this anyways

    For those who don't know, you dont always get Gunship as a commander, it depends on the map & depends if your team has a certain point captured, that allows u to spawn the Gunship.
    Some maps got Cruise Missiles instead, some got even both (Firestorm for example) but yeah its kinda weird why they allowed gunship on that map, it's very OP. ( I guess the expected boats to counter it?)

    It's really hard to hit people with the cannons for some reason. The 120mm cannon explodes next to a tank ( about 2-3 meters away ) it doesn't damage the tank though...

    Replace the gunship with the drop ship from endgame. The commander could prehaps select the icon and draw a straight line across the map. Then the drop ship will spawn and make one pass before disappearing with a re spawn time of 4-5 minutes. Players will be able to spawn on the drop ship while its making the pass and drop down behind enemy lines to cap objectives. Much more tactical.

    An idea, in conquest anyways.. 1 team only gets the ac 130 if the other team holds every point, creating a mechanic that aids in keeping games from going crazy one sided.

      Great idea, they should implement this.
      If they hold all the points, it should be nearly impossible to shoot down. Once a point is taken by the oppressed team, the AC-130 only circles their deployment & can be shot down.
      Once flag two is captured, it leaves if it hasn't yet been shot down.

    I definitely agree that they shouldn't just straight up remove it from the game, but they should certainly tweak it some more. Maybe increasing the overheat time of the burst fire seat? Increasing respawn time would definitely help as well. For the Naval Strike maps, they either need to remove it from that game mode or add in jets. But then again, adding in jets to Naval Strike would make it difficult for the choppers to be effective (since that's currently one of the only game modes the choppers can stay alive in).

    Someone suggested it in a video to *****, change it to the C-130 from Battlefield 3. Essentially turning it into a spawn point for infantry and small vehicles. Much cooler and more useful to team play. I can't remember who suggested it in that video but hats off to them, very clever idea.

    I really don't mind it, sure it's annoying on maps like Lost Islands, but like you said it's really easy to take out (or to just cap the flag and let your team have it). I actually quite enjoy just covering my friends with it when we play sometimes, even if I don't get many kills

    I have a few ideas on how to fix the gunship:
    1. Reduce spawn rate. Or...
    2. Make the AC-130 a somewhat difficult to kill one-off.
    3. Give it weak points like its wings and engines.
    4. Be a damn team and not run around doing your own shit.

      I have one more point, that i believe can help to fix the gunship, make the ac 130 have a 30 sec. pass or 1 minute if you want, and then all the passengers are ejected, and the gunship disappear, and then wait another 30 sec. to respawn again the gunship

    Hahahahhaa.... It's definetely not OP - far from that, the AC130 does still very little damage, like yes, on lost islands(i think thats the name) you can't really hide, but since it does so little damage it's not hard to runa away from it.
    When i'm playing when there's a gunship, i almost never even notice it...

      Ac-130 has a set path that it flies. The guns on it have an angle it can shoot at. So if you go to the opposite direction the guns face then ur safe cause the guns have no angle on you. Get it? Try it your self in a conquest game.

    The gunship is good as it is. It may seem overpowered but if you take a look at it it's just realistic. A real AC-130 (aka 'Spooky' :D) can pack quite a punch with it's guns. As mentioned it devastates targets on the ground with a 105mm(!) gun, a 40mm gun and a 25mm gatling. All of those weapons say "hello sir. I am here to mess you up. Bigtime." A gunship is the ultimate airstrike and i think if it kicks ass in reality, why shouldn't you be able to hand your enemies' butts to them in BF4? Superior firepower is always seen as 'nooby' (see also: MP7) but in fact some of the things are just realistic. Sorry for the wall of text, have a nice day, potatoe.

    why not a timer before it needs to leave the battlefield to refuel. Or you only have a limited number of shots per gun and when they are all used up the gunship leaves

    Simple solution, make the gunship player taken off and flown, half the people wouldn't be able to get it off the ground and the other half wouldn't keep the guns facing the ground. Also having a pilot controlling the flares vs everyone would cut down its survivability.

      Yes, because people gracefully drove it straight into the ground, like in the good old days of DC. Sure the AC130 was OP, but requiring a bit of skill and, dare I say it, TEAM WORK made it rewarding. BF3/4 are fun, but it's like they watered every version of BF down.

      Also the pilot should get %50 of the points the players get in the AC-130 ( not taking away points ) so that way you wouldn't have as many people just flying them into things for LoLz

    If BF4 keeping things true... I bet the gunship is fitted out with a 105mm Howitzer, 40mm cannon, and a 25mm gattling cannon... AKA a flying can of Whoop-Ass

      Make it harder to kill, but have a 3 minute CD. Or similar. Make the killing of it both harder, but also more meaningful.

    buff the SRAW damage against the ac-130 so if it does re spawn just blow it to oblivion again. Or they could add a cool down so once the gunship is destroyed, the commander can't pop it up again for some time?

    Its fine where it is. Its not OP. When BF3 Armored Kill was released, that's when the AC-130 was OP. DICE has done a good job in balancing it.
    Pro tip: Instead of trying to shoot it down, go capture the objective that has the AC-130.

    AC130 should stay the way it is right now because it is actually realistic, think about it.. you see a AC130 in real life... the 1st thing you are going to do is run somewhere, the AC130 in prevous update made me fucking angry to the point where i would say "what is the point of having something that does no damage?" same goes for the bomber as well on China Rising.
    I like this update because these are suppose to be feared Vehicles, not something that you could shrug off, if they take it off.. fine by me, but don't nerf it to a point where it is just a pushover.

      Games are about fun and balancing. Where the realism in spawning one gunship after the other with unlimited ammo? Dont get me started on realism in BF4. Parachutes, wonder healing medikits, instant revive defibs, recharging vehicle ammo, and so on. Wheres the realism in that?

    Game wise, the AC-130 takes skill to get. first of all, your team has to have a certain point locked down for the commander to call it in, so if you can't hold down that point, you deserve an AC-130 on your ass. Next, the commander can only call them in after a long period of time, so it's not like they would fill the sky like the mothership in independence day the movie. I think the AC-130s are fine like they are. remember: skill is all it takes

      It takes some time to call it after the point is taken. But after that you can call it right after its destruction, like Lc mentioned in the video.
      But you are right, it is not that good. I always feel like shooting ants with gravel. They just don't care and rarely die..

    It's different for us console gamers. The AC130 is fun to use, but you don't get it often because of lack of people playing as commander. Additionally, it gets shot down very easily, either by AA Tank, Jet, or a Jet ram. On top of that, it's not as easy to get kills with as it is on PC because we can't swing gun turrets around at light speed (as you can on a PC) we are limited to the traverse time of the game. I would actually be in favor of buffing the AC130 a bit, give it back its anti-aircraft guns that it had in BF3.

    After seeing a post from DICE on their blog to players about certain things players though were unbalanced in the game, I'm fully confident that DICE have no actual idea how to balance their own game.
    Like their removal of the below radar ability on air vehicles. Seems logical to remove it in their eyes. Now air vehicles can be locked onto while sitting on the ground. Meaning on maps like Flood Zone, someone can constantly destroy the attacker heli before it even gets off the ground. Yay balancing!

      But think of it like that: The Scout Chopper on Flood Zone is already extremely strong and can hide behind buildings etc.
      Now think of that already strong Chopper with being able to not get tracked by missiles, that would make it too strong and boring for infantry.
      Or do you like to get raped by a vehicle you cannot kill?
      PS: That is coming from a jet pilot, so do not think, I am one of those "air haters".

      ***** I'd much rather have it the way it was in Battlefield 3.
      DICE's reason for taking it out was because they didn't want to frustrate the Engineer's by constantly having to re-lock on or because they might lose the lock if the vehicle dipped to low in the sky.
      They also went on to say that defenses on aircraft were enough to counter incoming anti-air things. Which again was a huge lie. I've watched countless missiles fired at both my helicopter and jet go right trough either chaff or flares, which DICE said in that same blog post would never happen. DICE claimed they were 100% full proof and would work every time.
      Suffice to say that I stopped playing Battlefield a while ago. The rubberbanding, server lag, server disconnects, unbalanced vehicles, etc all made me stop playing.

    It's a commander asset that is available when your team captures a flag. It's supposed to be powerful - it's a reward. As it was before, there was no incentive to use it whatsoever. It's not like it's invincible anyway.

    There should be levolution events on some maps where the ac130 crashes and kills anybody in its way. For example on siege of Shanghai or in the 6th dlc ( if it comes out ) it would crash into the building and fall down.

      GalacticNuke Whats fun for the commander isn't fun for everyone else. The commander shouldn't be able to dictate the fun of upto 32 other players. The recharge rates of uavs and gunships is pretty ridiculous right now. I hate seeing 3 uavs and a gunship orbiting the same point with an emp going off every 2 seconds, if the commander really needs to constantly click things there are thousands of other games they should play instead.

    because its really powerful on ground targets because it lost the AA guns from when it was in BF3.so any aircraft can easily take it down.
    and its not as big as a problem as other vehicles. *cough* scout 20mm *cough*

    It's funny that most of the games I get into there aren't very many effective Ac-130 gunners, but as soon as someone knows what they're doing in it, their presence is felt by the entire opposing team. I mainly jump in it when I'm not wanting to play too serious or anything. Fun addition to the game but after watching actual videos of gunships being used across seas in the war, I do think it's main cannon is underpowered. Still a cool feature to the game. Great video!

    I'll jump in the AC-130 occasionally because it's there and it's fairly easy to take out the odd annoying tank with it. I really think Battlefield is best on infantry focused maps though, vehicles just don't do it for me.

      I don't have that problem. I bought Premium as soon as I could because the BF3 DLC was amazing and I expected BF4 DLC to be amazing as well, but it turns out, most of the DLC was a let down. Most of the premium exclusiv stuff is amazing, however I don't think that parachute camos should've been an exclusive because you only see parachutes for like 15 seconds out of a whole match lol

    keep it the way it is :D, maybe reduce the amount of time to spawn or something. I think it shouldn't be a commander function, it should be a flag to be captured in conquest of a specific location in rush etc. like it was in BF3, that worked quite well

    AC 130 should have been player operated. If a player flew it they would have to their air raids and we all know lots of pilot error would cause it not to last long.. Also just having to make your turns to come back and make attacks.. Just would have been more fun to have it that way and also make teams have to be more strategic with it..

    I think the C-130 should stay how it is because the option is supposed to be a significant difference in the battle. For it not be that significant and no one really cares just be utterly useless. Though they should make it to where it has to take a little longer for the spawn.

    What i want is the bf3 varient, the 25mm cannon and the 105 gun, but what the bf3 one did also have was 2 turrets on the top that could shoot jets and choppers that are chasing them.

    Can they not nerf it slightly but not back to where it was? That chaingun needs a faster overheat/longer cooldown time and slightly less splash damage, the main cannon is utter crap so don't bother changing that and knock a couple of rounds from the secondary cannon's ammo. And swap it out for the Cruise Missile in Carrier Assault, that would be fine. DicePls

      There's a glitch with the height limit where if you're really high up, you can't deal damage to things that are also high up, making the AC effectively immune to bullets if you are too close, you have to come at it from beneath.

    I would think a flak cannon on the belly would be a welcome addition. That, and an armor upgrade.
    However, I would also suggest a 2 minute respawn, and a change where wing/engine shots deal critical damage.

    the ac130 is a great tool in battlefield as it give the infantry something else to fight over. for example if both teams have a commander then it is in the teams best interest to hold the objective that controls the gunship so to control the conquest. as a counter to this the other team will no doubt try to take that objective at the same time as to control the gunship themselves.

    I love the AC-130. I've had a blast playing with it and once it kills me and I notice it I just shoot it down. It also adds the incentive to attack, take, and hold the objective that allows your commander to spawn it in. It makes the game so much better.

    The second seat in the gun ship is a 40mm Bofors grenade launcher, not an artillery cannon, the first is a 105mm Howitzer artillery cannon, and the third seat is a GAU-12 Equalizer 25mm cannon.

    I was playing on Conquest on Dawnbreaker and I was on the roof. I saw the AC-130 hanging out in the sky and decided YOLO, took out my RPG (Explosives are my specialty) and lead it by what seemed like 1200 yards, aimed 4.5 in. on my T.V. upwards, and it was off. I took out my zoom scope and just watched it. Perfect shot, right in the dome. Got the vehicle kill assist and a vehicle hit! Badumpbadumpbadump ONLY IN BATTLEFIELD! :D

    The timer for this thing needs to start AFTER it's shot down. Whenever I'm a commander and deploy a Gunship I see the timer ticking away before anyone's even spawned in or realised it's in the air meaning when it's shot down one can be dispensed instantly

    I've taken out a moving helicopter with the howitzer on an AC-130 multiple times, and moving tanks, etc. I'm really good with leading shots and putting it where I want. The howitzer isn't hard to use if you know how to aim properly :)

    It should deal the same dmg as now, have less health and it should take longer to spawn. The reason I like it is that it feels great when you really help your team or squad push on a point.

      I prefer the miniguns over the 25mm on the scout, sure they cant damage armor, but they kill jeeps, and other choppers much faster than the 25mm's

    i think that if you needed a pilot to fly it, i would have a better time. like the pilot would be able to fly it like a really slow jet,but this makes it a bit more vulnerable to rpgs, sraws, etc. it would allow a little more balance to the game. i just don't want everyone running around with stingers, taking out heli's and the gunship.

    Gun one is a 105mm Howitzer cannon, Gun two can be one of three setups, the GAU-23 30mm autocannon, the L60 Bofors 40mm autocannon, or the GAU-12 25mm/U Gatling. I assume based on altitude that the Gunship in game is supposed to be the "Spooky II" variant (The Spooky II's are pressurized), which makes it likely that it's the 40mm Bofors cannon. The third seat is none other than the GAU-12/U 25mm Gatling gun (sounds about like 1800rpm), and isn't fast enough to be the M61 Vulcan found on variants such as the Spectre (Retired in 2014), Ghostrider, and Stinger II.

    Have you ever heard of bailing out of the vehicle before you die?
    Or taking cover, there's cover everywhere, aslong as you're out of the line of sight, you're safe, and you're covered?
    Or maybe using the IGLA? It's effective.
    Or maybe using proper teamwork and communication skills to take it out?

    Personally, the AC-130 isn't must of an issue. I mean its hard enough to get kills with(unless you're pro) and its not that hard to take down. The fact that it re-spawns very fast makes it seem that it wasn't worth your while taking it down. Hell I remember taking down a gunship by leading a SRAW up there (which was hard to do) and my reaction was legitimately: *monotone* "Ok thats takin' dow-Aww CRAP it spawned again... -.-"

    Good video. IMO it should be disabled if two commanders are not in game. If there are two or its left enabled, it should have to fly toward the battlefield after deployment thus delaying it's spawn. The rails it is on should also be in a much larger radius which would ultimately disperse a lot of the concentrated fire players on the ground must endure.
    In a perfect world it would be a vehicle at spawn that would need to be manually flown after a particular flag was captured.
